Episode 171 Chapter 30, EMS Analog Synthesizers. Works Recommended from my book, Electronic and Experimental Music Welcome to the Archive of Electronic Music. This is Thom Holmes. This podcast is produced as a companion to my book, Electronic and Experimental Music, published by Routledge. Each of these episodes corresponds to a chapter in the text and an associated list of recommended works, also called Listen in the text. They provide listening examples of vintage electronic works featured in the text. The works themselves can be enjoyed without the book and I hope that they stand as a chronological survey of important works in the history of electronic music. Be sure to tune-in to other episodes of the podcast where we explore a wide range of electronic music in many styles and genres, all drawn from my archive of vintage recordings. There is a complete playlist for this episode on the website for the podcast. Website:https://anauscultation.wordpress.com/ Work:Open Windowsby Sara Teasdale Out of the window a sea of green treesLift their soft boughs like the arms of a dancer,They beckon and call me, "Come out in the sun!"But I cannot answer.I am alone with Weakness and Pain,Sick abed and June is going,I cannot keep her, she hurries byWith the silver-green of her garments blowing.Men and women pass in the streetGlad of the shining sapphire weather,But we know more of it than they,Pain and I together. They are the runners in the sun,Breathless and blinded by the race,But we are watchers in the shadeWho speak with Wonder face to face.References:Sara Teasdale: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/sara-teasdale Ulrich RS. Episode 115 Radio Spirits in the Night Introduction Track Start Times Onda, “Part 1” 10:06 Onda, “Part 2” 28:22 Onda, "Seoul" 47:26 Onda, “Köln” 1:08:03 Onda, Lewisburg” 1:11:35 Onda, “Wroclaw" 1:19:47 Holmes. “3 Open Windows, 1 Small Antenna” 1:27:36 Playlist Aki Onda, “Part 1” (18:16) and “Part 2” (19:04) from “Transmissions From The Radio Midnight (2023 Dinzu Artefacts). Limited Edition 12" Black Vinyl. Limited to 200 copies. “for this album, I selected some of my favorite segments from the recordings made in ten-or-so countries over the span of roughly a decade, beginning in 2008. All of the fragments are presented just as they were captured. Since frequency behavior is often unpredictable, and since the act of catching waves was done manually, the recordings capture all sorts of incidental sounds, including various kinds of static noise and radio interference.” (Aki Onda). Aki Onda, “Seoul” (2010, 20:37), “Köln” (2012, 3:32), “Lewisburg” (2014, 8:12), “Wroclaw” (2013, 7:49) from “Nam June's Spirit Was Speaking To Me” (2020 Recital). Includes 20-page art booklet including rare photographs of Nam June Paik from the set of Michael Snow's film Rameau's Nephew (1974), two essays on radio-wave phenomenon (by Onda and Marcus Gammel), and a remembrance of Paik by Yuji Agematsu from an interview conducted by Aki Onda. Thom Holmes. “3 Open Windows, 1 Small Antenna” (1973 Private recording). I realized this piece in the electronic music studios of Temple University in 1972-73. I recorded various shortwave radio sounds at my apartment in Philadelphia, then edited and embellished it with synthesis and modulation using the Moog Modular III synthesizer at in the Temple Music School. I was a student of Paul Epstein at the time, and he asked several of us to join him for a performance on the WBAI Free Music Store, a program radio in NYC. I developed and sketched-out some vocal parts to sing along to the tape and Paul and my friend Ed Cohen joined me for the performance in NY. The lights were dim, the mood was quiet, and we soared along on the sounds on this piece over the airwaves. A recording of that radio broadcast exists somewhere in my storage but for this instance I present the tape piece alone. 24:53. Opening background music: Thom Holmes, “Signatures Revisited” (2023), an extended version of a piece from my album Intervals (2017), based on the experience of listening to shortwave radio. 01:07:40. Listen to the complete work on my Soundcloud channel. Opening and closing sequences voiced by Anne Benkovitz. Additional opening, closing, and other incidental music by Thom Holmes. See my companion blog that I write for the Bob Moog Foundation. For additional notes, please see my blog, Noise and Notations.

Welcome to another episode of this ridiculous podcast, with ridiculous hosts who have ridiculous opinions talking to ridiculous listeners about a ridiculous band. It's just ridiculous.Randy pulls out his Wilford Brimley impersonation and is absolutely delighted by the sight of Freddie's football getup in the Gaga video and Brian's bone guitar! We also get down to the serious questions, like "Who's banging Mrs. Clause?", "What's the matter with Andrew?", and of course, "Are your men on the right pills?" Randy has beef with Corey, Kev is caught in the middle, and this really is the only life for all of us. So sit back, put your feet up, we're talking Queen!"This is the only life for me" or possibly, "Stepping Out, ala Queen"If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "This is the only life for me" or possibly, "Stepping Out, ala Queen"Today's episode covers only our second song from "The Works", the piano-led Freddie movie song, "Keep Passing The Open Windows".NOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 33.05Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Twitter, Facebook, and BlueSky! We'll always try to answer any questions you have and seriously appreciate any corrections you make to anything we get wrong. And thanks so much for all your support as usual. It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a four parter anyways. 2014 was for me, a classic year for horror movies, Some would say that not enough time has elapsed to make this assessment, I say, balderdash! The highs are really high & the lows can be quite messy. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 2014? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and over 6 hours of running time split over 4 episodes. This is 2014, A Year In Horror.00.32 - A Record of Sweet Murder (w/ Marc Canale)23.15 - Also Rans (Part 1)26.42 - The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears (w/ Teeth of the Sea)58.27 - Burying the Ex (w/ London May)1.10.13 - Tusk
As Latinos, many of us may have experienced our parents hustling and finding opportunities anywhere because they had no other option. In this episode, Abe had a conversation with Cristian Molina, co-founder of Hugo's Cocktails, about his path to being a business owner, creating opportunities out of necessity, and how he measures success.
You may feel like you've reached your limits, but the good news is, God is not limited by anything. He can cause you to accomplish things you could never do on your own. Freddie's brilliantly stirring "Keep Passing the Open Windows" is a remnant of a film production project. His piano is melodic and sustained, sweeping and epic; along with his lead vocal performance. Roger, Brian and John provide impressive instrumental performances full of bombastic enthusiasm, ostinato, grit and soaring melodies. There's even a moment of throwback Queen choral vocals! It was never played live but two demos were preserved. A rare and unique treat, this song means an awful lot to me for one important reason. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tater-thoughts/message

It's tempting to have it our way, but if we substitute God's principles to wealth for our own then it won't produce the outcome we expect. God uses the principle of tithing to pour out a blessing in every area of our lives. In this message, Pastor Stephen clears up what God's word says about tithing and why it's a principle to wealth and well-being that we should not miss.
