Drawing from various biblical passages, we consider the value of recognizing God's power and presence in our daily lives, the necessity of spending time alone with Him, and the role of spiritual fathers in providing guidance and protection. The message concludes with a reminder to trust in God's gentleness, remain nourished in His Word, and be content in the season He has us in.
Read Online“But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as the shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice.” John 10:2–4Do you recognize the voice of the Shepherd? Does He lead you each and every day, guiding you into His holy will? How attentive are you to what He speaks each day? These are some of the most important questions to ponder.Recognizing God's voice is something that many people struggle with. There are often many competing “voices” that speak to us each and every day. From the latest news in the headlines, to the opinions of friends and family, to the temptations all around us within the secular world, to our own self-drawn opinions, these “voices” or “ideas” that fill our minds can be hard to sort through. What is from God? And what is from other sources?Recognizing the voice of God is indeed possible. First of all, there are many general truths that God has already spoken to us. For example, everything contained in the Holy Scriptures is the voice of God. His Word is alive. And when we read the Scriptures, we become more and more familiar with God's voice.God also speaks to us through gentle inspirations that result in His peace. For example, when considering a certain decision you may need to make, if you present that decision to our Lord prayerfully and then remain open to whatever He wants of you, oftentimes His answer comes in the form of a deep and certain peace of heart.Learning to recognize the voice of God in your daily life is accomplished by building an interior habit of listening, recognizing, responding, listening some more, recognizing and responding, etc. The more you hear the voice of God, the more you will recognize His voice in the most subtle of ways, and the more you come to hear the subtleties of His voice, the more you will be able to follow. In the end, this is only accomplished by an ongoing habit of deep and sustaining prayer. Without that, it will be very difficult to recognize the voice of the Shepherd when you need Him the most.Reflect, today, upon how attentive you are to God in prayer. What does your daily prayer look like? Do you spend time each day listening to the gentle and beautiful voice of our Lord? Do you seek to form a habit by which His voice becomes clearer and clearer? If not, if you do struggle in recognizing His voice, then make the decision to establish a deeper habit of daily prayer so that it is the voice of our loving Lord Who leads you every day.Jesus, my Good Shepherd, You speak to me each and every day. You are constantly revealing to me Your most holy will for my life. Help me to always recognize Your gentle voice so that I can be led by You through the challenges of life. May my life of prayer become so deep and sustaining that Your voice always echoes within my heart and soul. Wrestling with Truth and Divine Will Experiencing internal conflict while traveling, contemplating a profound truth from Matthew 11. Soul grieved due to God's will differing from personal prayers. Acknowledges God's superior knowledge and plan. "I'm glad God's God and I ain't. He knows what to do and I don't." Affirms obedience to God and appreciation for the Holy Ghost. Scripture: Matthew 11:25-30 Jesus thanks the Father for revealing truths to "babes" and hiding them from the "wise and prudent." "I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and true, and hast revealed them unto babes." All things are delivered to Jesus by the Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, nor the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son reveals Him. Invitation to those who labor and are heavy laden: "Come unto me, all ye that labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Take His yoke and learn from Him, for He is meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me. For I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls." His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. Prayer and Reflection Praying for those who struggle, grieve, and bear burdens. Recognizing God's faithfulness, goodness, and graciousness regardless of circumstances. Thankful for God's promises based on His will, not on personal merit. Acknowledging personal inability to fix needs, trusting in God's intervention. Word of God as a "rescue" and "lifeline" for souls. The "Post-it Note" of the Holy Spirit A verse quoted by Brother Robert on Sunday morning deeply resonated. The Holy Spirit's "unction" or "nudge" prompts deeper exploration of scripture. Like a "post-it note up in my heart." Familiar scripture can lose its effect over time. Desire to avoid becoming "anesthetized" or "indifferent" to the truth. Personal desire to be moved by the truth of Jesus' invitation to "come unto me and I'll give you rest." The Invitation to "Come" The invitation is personal: "You come. Not your neighbor." The invitation is for those who are "burdened and are heavy laden." Many carry burdens, grief, and unresolved problems. Acknowledging personal lack of answers, but knowing the One who has promised rest. Danger of taking prayer and access to God for granted. Reminder of the greatness of God, the "One on high who created everything." Importance of reverence and fear in approaching God. Personal Testimony and Revelation Remembering the day the Holy Ghost convicted the soul, leading to repentance. Jesus reveals the Father, leading to a life-changing encounter. Concern that the opportunity to kneel in God's presence is no longer an "amazement." Lamenting that many with the invitation of Christ do not seek Him. The opposite of coming to God is "not coming," requiring a response. Instantaneous transformation from sinner to saint through the Holy Spirit. "It wasn't five minutes after that He made me a saint." The Holy Ghost lives within, constantly inviting to "come." Revelation 22:17 The Spirit and the Bride say, "Come." The Holy Spirit is fully given at salvation, not partially. "You didn't get part of the Holy Spirit...You got the Holy Spirit." The Holy Spirit sets up a "home" within and says, "Come." Jesus' Grief and Compassion Jesus was grieved by the events leading up to the invitation in Matthew 11. He was troubled by the imprisonment of John the Baptist and the disciples' lack of understanding. Jesus rebuked those who followed John half-heartedly. He pronounced "woe" upon cities that did not repent despite witnessing His mighty works. "Woe unto thee, Chorazin! Woe unto thee, Bethsaida!" Jesus thanked the Father for hiding truths from the "wise and prudent" a...

Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them.” And Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?” And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.” So he invited them in to be his guests.

DOWNLOAD KEYNOTE SLIDES 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 – “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.” Key Themes: 1. Reconciliation Begins in Christ ◦ True transformation happens in Christ—not through good works or self-effort. ◦ God reconciled us to Himself through Jesus and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. 2. You Belong to God ◦ 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: "You are not your own; you were bought at a price." ◦ Many people try to add Jesus to their lives rather than fully surrendering to Him. ◦ God doesn't do "timeshares" with our lives—He wants everything, not just a portion. 3. God Provides What He Requires ◦ Everything God asks of us, He also provides the grace to fulfill. ◦ Just as in education or training, high expectations come with high investment. ◦ Salvation is by grace through faith plus nothing (Ephesians 2:8-9). 4. With Reconciliation Comes with Responsibility ◦ Reconciliation not just a personal benefit; it's a calling to extend it to others. ◦ We are reassigned after being reconciled—called to help restore others. ◦ The message must be shared, not just received. 5. Seeing People as God Sees Them ◦ Don't look away from the broken, hurting, or lost—see them, engage with them. ◦ True reconciliation requires recognition: ▪ Recognizing God's nature and human nature. ▪ Understanding that all people are created in God's image (Imago Dei), even if they don't yet reflect it. 6. Conciliation Before Reconciliation ◦ Reconciliation requires addressing what caused the division. ◦ No reconciliation without recognition and repentance. ◦ Applies to racial issues, family conflicts, and most importantly, our relationship with God. 7. Understand Human Nature ◦ The human heart is deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). ◦ People want a god that serves them, but the true God is the one they must serve. 8. Indicators of the true God: • Is from everlasting to everlasting • Known to Adam, Abraham, Moses and the even the pagans of every generation • Has the power to create, destroy, heal and reform • Passes final judgment • Knows the motivations of the heart • Has purpose that transcends self-serving interests of people • Manifests His presence in the earth through the Holy Spirit • Has a son name Jesus Christ, who is God the Son 9. The Power of the Gospel ◦Salvation only comes through the message of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). ◦The gospel itself is the power of God to salvation (Romans 1:16). ◦Our role is to preach Jesus, not just share opinions or impress people. 10. The Prodigal Son: A Picture of Reconciliation (Luke 15:11-31) ◦God eagerly watches for people to return to Him. When the prodigal son came to himself, he repented and returned. The Father welcomed him back with open arms, showing God's heart. Don't be jealous when God restores others—join in the mission of reconciliation. Final Charge: Be Ministers of Reconciliation • Recognize that all people belong to God. • Share the gospel because salvation only comes through hearing and receiving it. • Help bring prodigals home to God. • Understand that God does not throw people away—He restores them. This sermon powerfully emphasizes the responsibility of believers to not only receive reconciliation but actively extend it to others. It challenges listeners to fully surrender to Christ, recognize the power of the gospel, and help others find their way back to God. Pastor Stephen Feith takes us on a profound journey through three powerful narratives from Luke's gospel that reveal what authentic faith looks like in daily life. Beginning with the story of ten lepers healed by Jesus, we discover that while all ten received physical transformation, only one—a Samaritan—returned to express gratitude. This singular act transformed his experience from mere physical healing to complete salvation. The stark contrast challenges us to examine how we respond to God's work in our lives: do we walk away with the blessing, or do we return to worship the giver? The sermon explores the tension between the "already" and "not yet" nature of God's kingdom. When questioned by religious leaders expecting political dominance, Jesus makes the radical claim that "the kingdom of God is already among you." This statement reframes our understanding of how God's reign manifests—not primarily through visible power structures but through transformed hearts. While we await Christ's unmistakable return, we're called to represent that kingdom now through how we prioritize our lives and engage with the world around us.Through the parable of the persistent widow, Feith addresses one of faith's greatest challenges: continuing to trust when prayers seem unanswered. Unlike the unjust judge who relented from annoyance, God's timing serves perfect purposes. The delay isn't negligence but divine wisdom. Jesus concludes with a haunting question that resonates through centuries: "When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" This isn't questioning whether God will act but whether we will remain faithful while we wait. The message culminates in a vision of what Madison Church could become—a community marked by recognition of God as the source of all blessing, readiness for Christ's return even amid life's distractions, and persistence in prayer regardless of apparent outcomes. Imagine a church that radiates gratitude in an ungrateful world, walks with expectation amid cynicism, and prays with relentless trust when others have given up. Such a community wouldn't just experience personal transformation but would transform its city and beyond for Christ's kingdom.Support the showIf you enjoyed this episode, consider subscribing to Madison Church on your favorite podcast platform. The Rev. Dr. Christopher D. Girata - “Recognizing God”
I flew to India, a land I’d never visited, and arrived at the Bengaluru airport after midnight. Though there’d been a flurry of emails, I didn’t know who was picking me up or where I should meet him. I followed the streaming mass of humanity to the baggage claim and customs, then out into the sticky night where I tried to spot a pair of friendly eyes among the sea of faces. For an hour, I walked back and forth in front of the crowd, hoping someone would recognize me. A kind man finally approached. “Are you Winn?” he asked. “I’m so sorry. I thought I’d recognize you, and you kept walking in front of me—but you didn’t look how I expected.” We regularly get confused and fail to recognize people or places we should know. God provides an unmistakable way of recognizing Him, however. He arrived in our world as Jesus, who “is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of [God’s] being” (Hebrews 1:3). Christ is God’s exact representation. When we see Him, we have complete confidence that we are seeing God. If we want to know what God is like—what He would say, how He would love—then we need only look and listen to Jesus. Are we truly hearing what “he has spoken” (v. 2) through Him? Are we actually following His truth? To be sure that we know how to recognize God, we fix our gaze on the Son and learn from Him.

The message, "This Kind of Heart," rooted in Romans 2:1-4, explores the transformative power of a heart aligned with God's grace and humility. It calls for revival through repentance, emphasizing that condemning others only brings judgment upon ourselves, as true brokenness leads to compassion for others. Recognizing God as the ultimate judge liberates us from judgmentalism and hypocrisy, fostering an emotionally healthy spirituality characterized by vulnerability, kindness, and humility. God's patience and kindness are not to be overlooked but embraced as an invitation to turn from sin and experience lasting change. This kind of heart reflects God's mercy and leads to obedience that aligns with His will.

This 'Steps to Trusting' podcast episode focuses on how using the word enough in regards to people without defining the term can lead to feelings of inadequacy. Erin discusses the value of people. People are always enough to be loved and valued. However, she highlights how the statement "You are enough," often clashes with the reality that people aren't enough to fulfill all the expectations and needs of themselves or others. Erin discusses personal experiences that reveal only God is truly enough to fulfill our needs. What people lack in ability to fulfill the needs of others does not take away from their value. The episode references Genesis and Nehemiah 9 to illustrate God's sufficiency and faithful provision. The key takeaway is to trust God, recognizing our value lies in being loved by Him, and to praise Him for the good in our lives rather than taking personal pride. The episode concludes with a prayer, emphasizing the importance of transferring our trust to God.00:00 Introduction to Steps to Trusting00:10 Defining 'Being Enough'01:07 Biblical Example of Provision and Limits01:46 Personal Experiences and Lessons02:29 God's Role in Fulfilling Our Needs05:28 Recognizing God's Provision10:57 Trusting God Fully12:22 Conclusion and Prayer
In this special Thanksgiving episode, we’re exploring the power of small, meaningful gestures that often have the greatest impact. Inspired by a heartfelt story of a teacher and her student, we’ll reflect on how gratitude extends beyond material blessings to acts of kindness, connection, and love. Together, we’ll discover how God’s hand is present in every small moment, calling us to recognize and share these blessings. In this episode, John discusses: The significance of small acts of kindness and their lasting impact Gratitude for non-material blessings that nurture the soul Recognizing God’s presence in daily life and gestures of care The deeper meaning of Thanksgiving beyond physical abundance Key Takeaways: Small, unintentional gestures like a teacher’s reassuring hand can profoundly impact someone’s sense of safety and connection, as seen in how Douglas cherished his teacher's presence without her even realizing it. Gratitude during Thanksgiving should extend beyond material wealth to include recognizing kindness, meaningful moments, and God’s hand in everyday life. The story of Douglas and Mrs. Klein illustrates that the most meaningful blessings are often subtle, born from acts of care and guidance that reflect God’s love and presence. Thanksgiving invites us to reflect on the unseen blessings in our lives, such as opportunities for generosity, moments of connection, and the reassurance that God holds every resource, dream, and moment in His care. “Gratitude is also born from the things that money can't buy—kindness, safety, and just being present—reinforcing how God calls us to recognize His hand in every small thing.” Resources Mentioned: A Teacher Told Her Students to Draw What They Were Thankful for—This Was One Student’s Moving Response - 2021 - Reader's Digest Editors: https://www.rd.com/article/thanksgiving-story/ CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! Earthkeepers: A Circlewood Podcast on Creation Care and Spirituality
Toward the end of the year Earthkeepers podcast always releases a special holiday episode that breaks from the usual interview mode. In this episode, we're gifting a passage from our friend Christine Sine's book called Celtic Advent: Following an Unfamiliar Path Through Advent. Earthkeepers recommends this book because in it, Christine brings fresh, life-giving perspective on the conventional Western practices of advent. According to those Western practices, the advent season this year begins on Sunday, December 1—so why offer an advent reflection in November? In her book, Christine explains: “for Celtic and Orthodox Christians, advent begins the evening of November 15th – forty days before Christmas Day. Celtic Christians always prayed and fasted for 40 days in preparation for any major life event, whether it be the planting of a new monastic center, the beginning of a new adventure, as well as for preparation for Christmas and Easter.” Given the Celtic theme of the passage, it is read by Brother Seán Aherne, an Irish monk who is very familiar with the St. Kevin story that is featured in this episode.Christine's website, GodspacelightBook: Celtic Advent: Following an Unfamiliar PathBrother Seán Aherne ( born 1946 ) is a Celtic Christian monk living in a small monastery on outskirts of Dublin. Jennifer, who also hosts the podcast "Real Confidence," shares her struggles with doubt and the importance of spiritual confidence. Pornography is a big problem, destroying lives across the globe. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar talk about E.Z. 's new book which dives into this topic, with Oscar pointing out that it discusses biblical manhood before addressing pornography. But why is understanding manhood so crucial first? Our culture has distorted the concepts of manhood and womanhood, leading to a catastrophic impact. Men in the Bible fought for their families and the gospel on many levels, not just physically.Men must confront this issue head-on. It's easy to think you're the only one facing this struggle, but it's a battle that finds many. Sin is like a lion seeking to destroy, and it's crucial to be vigilant and proactive in resisting temptation. Some young men have never encountered this struggle, but once you step into that arena, it can be overwhelming. The average Christian doesn't desire to fall into sin, but you can't hesitate to resist temptation. Lust is a serious issue, a bedfellow of death, with the wages of sin being death and damnation. Falling into pornography betrays your wife, friends, and the Lord. The example of Joseph is powerful; he had the opportunity to indulge in sin but chose to resist and physically run away.Realize that God isn't fighting against your joy, but for it. He created sex as a gift within marriage, a built-in protection. Understanding God's will and choosing to live it out is crucial in this battle against the world, the flesh, and the devil. The enemy uses tactics like discontent, but walking in the Spirit is key. The world often talks about pornography's destructiveness, but it's more than that—it's a sin against God. Recognizing God's love for you can ignite a renewed passion for the Lord. For the young man living a double life, remember that the power that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside you. Value the gospel, meditate on God's greatness, and remember you will stand before the Lord. Jesus paid for your sin so run to Him and obey Him.Today, pornography is more accessible than ever. Men are constantly in the crosshairs. Don't believe the lie that you can't quit. If you were promised 100 million dollars for six months without looking at pornography, you'd find a way. The issue isn't that you can't stop; it's that you won't. We are called to a pure relationship with the Lord. Engage with God—read your Bible, use your spiritual gifts, witness to others, and cry out to the Lord in prayer. God is our source of help. This is a cancer destroying the glory of God. As you distance yourself from these things, you will grow in holiness.Send us a text Thanks for listening! The more aware we are of who God is and who we are to Him, the more pronounced the chaos of the world feels some days. By praying the words of this Psalm, we choose to embrace the privilege of peace that comes as we walk with Christ instead. - Meg Bucher SUBSCRIBE to our sister podcasts: The Crosswalk Devotional: https://www.lifeaudio.com/crosswalk-devotionalYour Daily Bible Verse: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-bible-verse Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
