We're everywhere this week – from the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream and the Eclipse Awards in which we feature Cody's Wish, Kylie and Kelly Dorman and Sofia Vives. Then to Steven Chircop and Bruno Schickedanz winning races at Penn National, Marty Drexler and Raroma Stable scoring at Gulfstream. We've got Kazushi Kimura and Luis Contreras winning at Santa Anita. There was over $790,000 bet in the mandatory Jackpot Hi-5 Saturday at Mohawk and when Natasha Day won at over 50-1, the payoff was life-changing. Janaya Gallant is a 20-year-old trainer and her first winner paid over $100. We talk with Rachel Slevinsky, who was chosen by an international company to promote their racing products. And when a sulky disintegrated in mid-stretch in an Aussie harness race, Ben Wallace was reminded when it happened to him.
Kelly Dorman reflects upon the joy provided to his family by Horse of the Year, Cody's Wish.
A trip to Florida for big races and yearly awards is the focus of this week's Ron Flatter Racing Pod. The Grade 1, $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park has trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. and TV analyst and morning-line writer Brian Nadeau talking. They discuss their views of the big three races on the card. Horse Racing Nation handicapper Mark Midland focuses not only on big stakes on Saturday's card at Gulfstream Park but also on one early offering on the undercard that could yield some strong value for bettors. From The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla., Ron has a recap of Thursday night's Eclipse Awards, which were dominated by the emotional story of horse of the year Cody's Wish. Also, John Cherwa joins Ron to discuss Bob Baffert's decision to drop his appeal to restore Medina Spirit as the winner of the 2021 Kentucky Derby and Churchill Down Inc.'s decision to keep Baffert under suspension through at least the end of this year. The Ron Flatter Racing Pod via Horse Racing Nation is available via free subscription from Apple, Firefox, Google, iHeart and Spotify as well as HorseRacingNation.com. Tattoo Artist lost to Bythemissal and that probably affected his Dan Patch status. Cody Dorman died on the plane ride home from the Breeders' Cup, but the story of Cody and Cody's Wish will resonate forever. Hey @yankeesrecaps and #yankees fans have to be pumped that #halsteinbrenner is ok with mediocrity. Analytics and a new hitting coach. Worked out well this 2023 #mlb season. #georgesteinbrenner would be so ecstatic with the direction of the franchise. How bout them @nyjets @jaymahanti @drjoe807 & @ateegz what a performance on #mnf last night. You hold the @chargers to 191 yards, 3.4 yards a play, 5 sacks and you lose 27-6. Give up another punt return TD. Four fumbles, 3 by #zachwilson who is never going to make me think he is the future or the present for that matter. What a mess. What a waste of a defense. I could go on and on. @jmu_football should go to a #bowlgame this year. 9-0 is no joke. Either is @jmumbasketball upsetting @michiganstatebasketball and handing #tomizzo his first loss ever in November. What a start to the #collegebasketball season. @cubuffswbb upset defending #champs @lsuwbkb in their season opener. #jackhughes get well soon. The #nhl & @njdevils need you on the ice. @nhlbruins 10-1-1 but as we all know. Don't mean
Joined in Melbourne by Adam Peacock on the back of a dominant display in the the 2023 Lexus Melbourne Cup by Without A Fight, I begin by getting the reaction from his jockey Mark Zahra who was winning the race for a second year in a row. Adam and I also dissect the runs of some of the placed and fancied horses. Britney Eurton is along to pay a moving tribute to the young Cody Dorman who very sadly passed away, 24 hours after watching Cody's Wish win at the Breeders' Cup. Also from the US, trainer Rick Dutrow discusses future plans for his Breeders' Cup Classic winner White Abarrio and finally, news broke yesterday in Britain that Henrietta Knight, who trained Best Mate to win three Gold Cups, has re-applied for her training license and joins the show to explain the decision.

American racing expert and AtTheRaces pundit Barry Faulkner, along with international racing expert and SKY Sports Racing presenter Tim Carroll, join Emmet for our annual Breeders Cup special as racing returns to the iconic venue where surf meets turf at Santa Anita. Barry and Tim share some bullish bets as we preview every feature race on Friday and Saturday, offering strong opinions, insightful analysis, and plenty of fun. Barry has a strong each-way play in the Juvenile Turf Sprint, while all three of us are eager to take on the red-hot favorite Tamara in the Juvenile Fillies. Barry's strongest bet of the meeting is in the Juvenile Fillies Turf, Tim has a 7/1 wager in the Juvenile, while Emmet makes the case for an Aidan O'Brien clean sweep in the Juvenile Turf. It's hard to ignore the incredible story of Cody's Wish in the Dirt Mile. Both Tim and Barry strongly agree on their bet against the two market leaders in the Filly & Mare Turf. We're all backing Goodnight Olive in the Filly & Mare Sprint, although there's a difference of opinion on the Breeders' Cup Mile. Tim and Barry both discuss a value bet in the Distaff, and there's a lively debate about the race of the meeting, the Turf, where Auguste Rodin, Mostahdaf, King Of Steel, Onesto, Up To The Mark, and Shahryar go to war in a renewal that rivals the High Chaparral/Johar epic from 20 years ago. While Barry and Tim are once again in agreement on their bet in the Classic, we also convince ourselves of a value play in the Turf Sprint and Sprint. The Magic Mike Show guys review the weekend's biggest stakes races & discuss why Saratoga was a major disappointment in more ways than one. Horse racing feel-good stories were absent from upstate New York after witnessing Maple Leaf Mel's tragic breakdown (1 of 3 that weekend) late in the Test Stakes (G1), Cody's Wish losing the Whitney Stakes (G1), and the major betting blunder that occurred when Sunday's last 3 turf races were moved to the main track.Did you consider Saratoga to be a major disappointment this weekend? As exciting as the 149th Kentucky Derby was, with a 15-1 upset, it wasn't the best story at Churchill Downs on Saturday, it was the Churchill downs Stakes in which Cody's Wish won for teenager Cody Dorman. We have the three finals of the Ontario Sired Graduate Series at Mohawk and we talk with Mark Etsell, the owner and trainer of the wonderful Adare Castle. How about Ryan Munger? In the South African jockey's first ride at Woodbine, he delivered a 10-1 shot, then told us how he did it. We chat with both Brad Grant and Yvonne Schwabe, who were named respectively to the Standardbred and Thoroughbred racing committees at Woodbine. In recent weeks horses named Toronto and Boston won on the pace, but were those wins accurate predictors of what would happen in playoff hockey series? And on the same day that King Charles lll was being coronated, a horse owned by the king was racing in a Stakes event at Newmarket.
Billy and Michelle catch up with Kelly Dorman, father of Cody Dorman, who captured the hearts of America from his bond with Cody's Wish.
