Is there anything that destroys the fortunes of a franchise more than a premium draft pick going bust? Even worse, when the next player…or two…or three…go on to have Hall of Fame careers. That's exactly the scenario for the 2003 Detroit Pistons. Eighteen-year-old LeBron James went to the Cavs with the first pick and Detroit was on the clock at no. 2. The reigning king of college basketball, Carmelo Anthony, was there for the taking (so were Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade). But instead, Detroit's braintrust chose a different 18-year old, 7-foot Serbian Darko Milicic who, despite lasting 10 seasons in the league, became the epitome of an NBA draft bust. But what if the Pistons, who won the 2003-04 NBA title despite the pick, chose Carmelo instead? Would playing with veterans like Chauncey Billups, Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace have silenced Melo's critics and led to multiple Motor City rings? How would LeBron's career have been altered with a young rival in the division? Would Darko have benefitted from being in a different locale? And what does all of this have to do with MTV and Eminem? In this first episode of the second season of the “Way of the Hermit” podcast we are “tying up loose ends” left over from last season. In this first part of our two-part season opener, we are looking at the book “A Path to Providence: The Creation of the Middle Chamber Program.”The Way of the Hermit Podcast: https://www.wayofthehermit.comIn "A Path to Providence", authors Shaun Bradshaw and Ben Wallace address the problems within modern Freemasonry and the Scottish Rite, offering solutions to revive the esoteric core of the craft. The book tells the story of the founding of the first "Traditional Observance" Lodge in North Carolina and the creation of an esoteric Masonic study program called "The Middle Chamber". It explains how the deeper meanings behind Masonic symbols were lost or forgotten in the post-World War II era, when membership swelled but understanding of the esoteric side diluted. Freemasonry today still largely reflects this era, with a focus on charities and business meetings rather than the profound truths of the ritual. Seekers of Masonic enlightenment often feel they are in the wrong place and drift away from the fraternity.Traditional Observance Masonry, a movement that began in the 1990s, aims to revive traditional Masonic practices, rituals, and symbolism to provide a more contemplative experience focused on esoteric and allegorical meanings. Andrew Hammer's book "Observing the Craft" is considered a manifesto of the movement, emphasizing the importance of taking time to observe and understand the wisdom within the symbols. In 2013, Sophia Lodge No. 767 was created as the first Traditional Observance Lodge in North Carolina, openly dedicated to the pursuit of esoteric knowledge. The book "A Path to Providence" shows how Brothers Bradshaw and Wallace addressed the problems of Freemasonry from the inside, making it official and sustainable through years of concerted effort. It also lays out a program of study that fills in much of the esoteric knowledge that is lacking in modern Masonic education. And they make a case that the time is ripe for a Masonic esoteric renaissance.Chapters:01:15 Introduction05:49 A Path To Providence08:50 Your Grandfather's Freemasonry11:07 The Esoteric Closet15:21 Traditional Observance17:45 Sophia Lodge20:59 The Middle Chamber Program24:49 The Inner Chamber Experience27:59 The Key to the Mysteries30:12 Summary & Outreach32:08 ConclusionsResources:Observing the Craft by Andrew HammerThe Way of the Craftsman by Kirk McNultyContemplative Masonry by Chuck DunningThe Meaning of Masonry by Walter WilmshurstFree Masonry: It's Hidden Meaning by George SteinmetzThe Initiatic Experience by Rob HerdThe Rough and Rugged Road by Tony HornsbyIn Search of Light by Bob Davis
Things Discussed: Filling the basketball roster. Expect to get C Vlad Goldin (FAU), CG Justin Pippen (HS), PG Trey Donaldson (Auburn), W Roddy Gayle (OSU), and another guy they're going after under the radar. Like Gayle if they can get his 3P% up better than Saint Mary's Aidan Mahaney, who took a lot of bad shots. C Justin Abson (App State) is Ben Wallace. Is he an either/or with C Danny Wolf (Yale)? What's the holdup? Guys want to go through the draft advisory board process. Sam thinks we'll get a drumbeat of commitments in the coming days and weeks. NIL: Dusty May needs a little more. How deep does the donor pool go? Well it's complicated; you're talking a quirky small subset of people who can afford this, and their individual circumstances matter a lot. There's a lot they're supporting: Football (which we're getting it done), Men's Hoops, Women's Hoops, etc. Seth: Don't forget Mott and the University of Michigan. Spring Game: What does the OL look like? Are there any guys standing? Sam thinks we won't be able to watch Hinton, Crippen, and El-Hadi, which that's three of your starters. Who's next? Seth doesn't like that Giudice is ahead of Efobi. That battle for RT is more iffy than we realized? Sam thinks they want a guy in the portal for Gentry or Persi to beat. Seth: If you're saying they Anderson we're at eight guys they trust now. Ohio State Spring Game: Their DL pushed their OL around so much it colors everything. QBs were throwing the ball into defenders; chests. Craig thinks their secondary is good. Seth says the offense is very Chip Kelly, they might have something with Julian Sayin down the road but he's skinny and mistake-prone right now.

Vincent Goodwill is joined by former New York Knicks GM Scott Perry for an episode that looks at the Rasheed Wallace / Ben Wallace championship Pistons team, the current drama in Philadelphia, and the future of the young Detroit Pistons team that has started the season strong.00:00 - Welcome, Scott Perry!05:25 - Rasheed Wallace11:00 - Ben Wallace14:45 - James Harden 26:45 - Joel Embiid36:50 - 2023-24 Detroit PistonsOn this episode of the Good Word with Goodwill podcast, Vincent Goodwill is joined by former New York Knicks GM Scott Perry. The show kicks off with some talk about Scott's beloved Pittsburgh Steelers before going back in time to revisit the 2004 Detroit Pistons championship team that beat the Kobe Bryant / Shaquille O'Neal Los Angeles Lakers while featuring Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace and zero max-contract players.Specifically, Scott talks about how gifted Rasheed is and how Ben Wallace wasn't actually appreciated for his gifts until he found his way to Detroit, the result of a trade that sent Grant Hill to the Orlando Magic.Scott also has plenty of experience with superstar players demanding to be traded, both with the New York Knicks (Carmelo Anthony) and the Orlando Magic (Dwight Howard), so he dove deep into what the Philadelphia 76ers are facing with James Harden, what might have created the tension between player and front office, and what might happen if Embiid decides he also wants to be somewhere else.Vinnie and Scott, a couple of Detroit natives who grew up rooting for the Pistons, finish the podcast by talking about the young team that has started the season 2-1. They have high hopes for both Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren, and Monty Williams already seems to have this team pointed in the right direction, but it's very early.Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports PodcastsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
