Hello and thank you for joining us here at Gospel Community Church of Fayetteville, GA. This week Elder Kirk McDonald opens our Covenant Series by looking at Acts Chapter 2 where God explains the beginning of church membership to us. God calls us to belong as members to a local church where we can practice the "one another's" of scripture, and serve, love, and submit as instructed all throughout the Bible.
Shalom Truth-Seekers in Yeshua Messiah. This is the first installment in a series of detailed teaching on the Hebrew concept of “covenant” (or “Berit”) and its foundational role in the faith and salvation of God's (i.e. Yehovah's) chosen ones. In this installment we introduce the Hebrew concept of covenant by exploring the term's meaning. We also emphasize its significance as a sacred, legally binding relationship between Yehovah (God) and His chosen people, Yisra'el/Yasharal, with its physical and spiritual implications for all humanity. The teaching critiques denominational misunderstandings and highlights covenant's Torah roots and its wider scriptural (i.e. both Tanach and Brit HaDashah) importance. Introduction to the Covenant Series We begin by recalling a previous post on Genesis 12:3. The title of that post is: Does "I Will Bless Those Who Bless and Curse Those Who Curse," Apply to the Modern Nation of Israel? (If you've not had the opportunity to listen to or read that post, we humbly invite you to do so by clicking this link https://www.themessianictorahobserver.org/2025/06/28/does-i-will-bless-those-who-bless-and-curse-those-who-curse-apply-to-the-modern-nation-of-israel/) In that post we clarified that the verse is not a command to bless the modern nation-state of Israel. But rather the verse is a prescriptive covenant provision. This provision states that those who treat God's chosen people, according to Torah principles, receive Yah's favor, while those who mistreat them face divine harm. And thus, covenant is central to God's relationship with His covenant people, Israel/Yisra'el/Yasharal. And it was that post that has prompted this covenant teaching series. In this series, we will explore the refined and broader principles of covenant that link it to God's/Yah's Grand Plan of Salvation, Restoration, and Redemption through the Person and Ministries of Yeshua HaMashiyach. Also in this post, we stress that denominational Christianity often fails to grasp the true Hebrew concept of covenant's significance because of their overall rejection of Torah and Hebraic principles. Because of denominationalism's wholesale rejection of Torah and Hebraic principles, they fail to recognize that the covenant is the sole pathway to a true relationship with God/Yehovah. That God-human relationship was established originally with Abraham and came to its fullest realization in the Person and Ministries of Yeshua Messiah. We will see that faithfulness to Torah and covenant obedience are essential for salvation and entry into the Kingdom of Heaven (Mat 7.22-23). Understanding the Hebrew Concept of Covenant Covenant, or "Berit" (in Hebrew), is a set apart, legally binding relational agreement between God/Yehovah and His chosen people. (Later on in this series we will see that Yah's chosen people are not limited to just the biological descendants of Avraham, Yitschaq, and Ya'achov.) But covenant frames the established relationship between God and His chosen ones with rules/behavioral expectations, obligations, and promises. Secularists may view a covenant much like a contract. But we will see as we delve deeper into the covenant Yah established/cut with His chosen ones that the concept of covenant is deeper. It's akin to a marriage-like partnership that is characterized by love, grace, and mercy. Both parties of the relational covenant agreement are bound to uphold the tenets of the established covenant. But God's faithfulness ensures the covenant's integrity, even when the covenant's human-signatory to the covenant, fail to keep their end of the covenant agreement. This faithfulness on God's/Yehovah's part is an immutable trait of God. Moseh described this character trait accordingly: “Yehovah/God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man (i.e. a human being) that He should repent (i.e. change His mind). Has He said and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not establish it?” (Numbers 23:19; LSB) The covenant (sometimes referred to as a blood covenant) is solemnly "cut" or established through an ancient middle eastern ritual that involves animal sacrifices. This bloody, solemn act symbolizes the serious and binding nature of the agreement (Gen 15). The Hebrew word "Berit" pictographically combines elements representing family, leadership, work, and consent. These elements underscore the covenant's relational and purposeful dimensions. Key Biblical Covenants We furthermore outline the five major expansions of Yah's covenant with His chosen ones: The Noahic Covenant (Genesis 6 and 9) The Patriarchal Covenant with Abraham and his descendants (Genesis 12, 15, 17) The National Covenant given through Moses at Sinai (Exodus 19-24) The Davidic Covenant with King David (2 Chronicles, Psalms, Isaiah) The New or Renewed Covenant prophesied by Jeremiah and Ezekiel (Jeremiah 31:31-34; Ezekiel 36:26-38) Each covenant expansion reveals aspects of God's/Yah's immutable character and the love He has for His set apart people. These expansions include expectations Yah for His covenant people. These expansions of covenant shape Israel's identity and sacred mission on the earth. The Commonness and Uniqueness of Covenants While covenants were common in the ancient Near East, often understood by scholars as treaties that various kings established with their vassals, the Hebrew covenant is unique. For we find that it is initiated solely by God acting from a position of sovereignty. God/Yah offers to His chosen ones a non-negotiable invitation to enter into a relationship with Him that is based on grace and love. Humans may accept or reject that invitation, but they cannot alter the terms of that covenant. Why? Because it is God/Yah Who carries the covenant's weight. Not from a position of subjugating His people, but from an expression of His desire for loving communion with His people. The covenant is thus a sacred bond with rules that both parties must honor. Those who accept the terms of the covenant commit to loving God (and loving God/Yah comes through faithful obedience to Him) and loving one another (Luk 10:27). The prophet Jeremiah's words to the Babylonian captives illustrate God's faithfulness to His covenant despite Israel's failures (chapter 29). Because of Yah's steadfastness to His Covenant, He promises Judah restoration and a future of peace. Greek Understanding of Covenant and Terminology In this teaching we also contrast the Hebrew "Berit" with the Greek "diatheke" that is used in the New Testament and in the LXX/Septuagint. While "diatheke" can refer to a “will” or “testament,” the Greek version of covenant does not capture the rich spiritual depth of the Hebrew, which involves an enduring, intimate relationship that has far-reaching implications for humanity's salvation. Varying Definitions of Covenant We list several scholarly definitions for covenant, some of which emphasize covenant as an alliance, compact, treaty, or sacred kinship bonds. The Hebrew understanding of covenant, however, centers on relationship, promises, and expectations established uniquely by God/Yehovah with Israel/Yisra'el/Yasharal. Conclusion We conclude our discussion by emphasizing the necessity of understanding covenant from a Hebrew perspective that is rooted in Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings. A Greek-only or New Testament-only view limits comprehension of this critical concept and the one that embraces it from that Greek perspective risks missing the covenant's full significance for individual believers and the collective identity of Israel. The covenant remains the foundation for humanity's salvation and our entry into the Kingdom of God (i.e. the Malchut Ahlohim).

Sermon 5 of our Covenant Series. We talk about the covenant God made with David.
Today is the last of the summer season re-posts of the Covenant Series. It has been a very busy summer for myself and my family with moving across country, getting sick and unpacking to set up house. I still have not found the box with all my recording equipment! Hoping to get to recording some new material soon. But for now, it never hurts to visit God's word again to glean something new. Blessings to you and yours as you study to show yourself approved by God. MoniAbrahamic and New Covenant Compared. Have you ever felt like living a holy, sanctified, set apart life and being pleasing to the Lord is a waste of time? I mean, what if it's all just not true? What if in the end it's all a big joke? Well, I'm sure you are not alone in those feelings. It's run across my mind a few time throughout my life. However, that's all they are feelings. Yes, God made us with feelings, but the feelings are not what our lives should be run by. One reason not to base our lives on feelings is that they change at the most inopportune moments. We can be sad, glad or mad all in the time it takes to sit through a news story while waiting in the Dentist office. What if I decided that my new acquaintance, would feel better with a big bowl of ice cream and all the toppings? Sounds like fun doesn't it? However, the FACT is that she is a diabetic, and sick right now and that big bowl of sugar would not be helping her, but in fact, hurting her. The more I know about another person, or a situation, the more solid foundation I have of the facts concerning my friend or situation. The FACT is that God loves us, in fact He loved us before we ever knew Him. God knew centuries ago that you would be here today, doubting His love because feelings got in the way. So He left some love letters for us to read to remind us of the Facts, as well as the reminder that He loves you and made away for those who love Him to be with Him forever. Yes, that is through Jesus, the Better, and New Covenant. Jesus is the New Covenant. As we delve into the New covenant a bit deeper today, we will see that not only does God make a way for our salvation from a fallen world, but a way to be holy through Jesus, and bring others along with us to a New and Holy City where we will life with our Beloved forever. From the New to the OldComparing the Promise to Abraham and to JesusThere are some that say that the Church has replaced the Nation of Israel as God's people. It might make some feel better to think this way, but the facts of the Bible nullify any feelings in such a direction. If we compare the Nation of Isreal to the Body of Christ regarding the promise that was given to Abraham, the same promise was given to Israel, but it was fulfilled through the Church. In Genesis 12:3 God told Isreal that He would make them a great Nation, and bless them that blesses them and curse them who curse them and in them all the families of the earth would be blessed. However, this came with conditions. For God also told them “If you will obey and keep My Covenant, the you will be a peculiar treasure to Me, as well as a Kingdom of priests and a holy Nation. (Exodus 19:5-6) Well, like Moses had predicted Israel would not obey. In 1 Peter 2:5,9) God tells His Beloved that you are lively stones, built up as a spiritual house, a holy priest hood, You are a chosen generation, a royal or kingly priesthood, a holy Nation, a peculiar people. Both were chosen Nations, as Isaiah 51:4 and 1 Peter 2:9Pay attention to Me my people and listen to Me, O My Nation, for a law will go out from Me and I will set My Justice for a light to the peoples. And to the church God tells us: we are lively stones being built up as a spiritual house…a chosen race, a royal...
The Messianic CovenantThe last few Podcast Episodes have been about the Davidic Covenant and then a reminder of why we were looking into the covenants. One of the last things I mentioned was that it helps us to understand God's plan to be His Ambassadors and His representatives of these Covenants, and it helps us take a look at how they play out in the Bible, in our lives and for our future. The time frame of some of these covenant promises from God overlap in History and our Future:Edenic: From the beginning of the Garden of Eden to the end of Genesis 2 when Adam sinned Adamic: Genesis 3 to as long as there is sin on the EarthNoahic: From the Ark to the end of rainbowsAbrahamic: Lasts until the end of the Millennium Mosaic: Lasted from Receiving the Law at Mt Sinai to the death of Jesus on the crossDavidic: From the days of David's Kingdom, renewed to Mary Luke 1:31-33 and fulfilled through Jesus until the end of time. Messianic or New Covenant: Applies to ALL who are saved through Faith in the finished work of Jesus on the Cross from Adam onward. Only two of the Covenants had conditions attachedDo you remember which ones they were? One was the Edenic (Don't eat of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil)The Other was the Mosaic Law: This was given solely to the People of Isreal. It ended with the Death of Jesus. Well technically it ended then. However many kept trying to crawl back under this old covenant known as the Law, rather than looking forward to the New Covenant of grace. Marriage, it's what brings us together today. Do you recall that movie line? Marriage ceremonies have changed over the years. Currently it looks like a contract between two people that can be broken when feelings change, that is why a prenuptial agreement comes in handy today, for those who look at marriage as a contract that is breakable at one point down the road. But remember we looked at how God intended a marriage to be. In fact a marriage covenant was a representation of the Covenant relationship God made with mankind. There is no relationship with God outside of a Covenant. Are you in a covenant with God right now? If you are, do you know which one, or ones? Can you state the benefits and responsibilities of the Covenant that you are a part of with God? If not, you might want to go back through the Covenant Series again and take notes, or just check out the Blog Posts that coincide with each Episode and compare it to your Bible. Our current culture tends to look at love as something to be received. The Old Testament describes the love of God as His loving kindness, or loyal love. It is pictured in the Book of Ruth 3 times and is described as headed love or lovingkindness, loyal love, and is Expressed through actionsExpressed as genuine concern for othersDemonstrated as strong devotion to anotherThe Christian Wedding is actually filled with symbolism about the making of a covenant. We spoke of the Making of a Covenant in past Episodes. The Hebrew word for Covenant is Berith. The root word of Berith is “to cut”. A blood covenant was a formal, binding agreement between two parties. In the Old Testament it was done by the cutting of an animal, who's blood was shed to make the agreement binding. In the New Covenant the Better sacrifice, Jesus, gave His own blood to make the covenant binding and the shedding of blood no longer necessary. Then the two parties would walk through the middle of the animal sacrificeIn Old Testament times, this ground they walk on through the sacrifice was considered holy ground. They would then pledge and promise all their rights, possessions, and benefits to the other party. They would exchange belts, and their outer coat, and take some part of the other...
Summer Update: After moving across the Country this summer and then getting very sick, I am posting a repeat of the The Covenant Series at the current time. The New Season of Moments with Moni will begin in the Fall of 2021. Praying for you all, and hoping that you are taking advantage of all the oportunites that God is placing before you. MoniThe Davidic Covenant:Last time we looked at the Biblical Covenants, we explored the Mosaic Covenant and left the House of Jacob on their way into the Promised Land without Moses. Joshua and Caleb were leading the people into the land of milk and honey after 40 years in the wilderness. Things were going well for them, and yet instead of returning God's favor and lovingkindness, the Israelites spun down and out into disobedience to God's Laws time and time again. The times of the Judges had come to an end, and this little tiny Bible Book called Ruth pops up with a story of customs and life during the period of the Judges. There are few points of DNA thread that weave their way through the book to our next stop along the way of the Biblical Covenants like a Dot to Dot pencil activity book.Genealogy is close to my heart. I love seeing the Family Tree fill up as research is done. The more the merrier, the more to love. Sometimes there is an unexpected surprise that pops up in the generations and I love to see how that particular branch of the family is grafted in to the Tree and see how and where they hail from. Family traits are sometimes strong, and overshadow what you might have thought was the norm. Whether it be an ancestral link that is lost or that pops up unexpectedly, it may cause much heartache or joy. I suppose it depends on the perspective of those already hanging in the family tree, whether they be nuts or peaches. Each family member can only be responsible for what is in their own heart as they reach out to the others. The Book of Ruth is a great example of a family lineage that stems from Abraham, to Moses, amongst a family line that was kept pure and separate because of the racist hearts of the Egyptians at the time of the slavery before the Exodus, to a time when all the Kings of Israel did what was right in their own eyes. Ruth is a beautiful account of a Moabitess, that marries into the line of the Hebrews. The Moabites were from the son of Lot and known to the Hebrews as “God's washpot” and yet this young woman, Ruth, was used by God to bring about the ancestral line of someone near and dear to my heart.A quick summary of Ruth's story is that she marries into a family of Hebrews that left Bethlehem during the famine. Ruth marries one of the sons in this family, but the dad dies, both the sons die, and the other daughter in law goes back to her family. Only Ruth, the Moabitess stays with her Mother in law Naomi and returns to Bethlehem to care for her. Here Ruth meets Boaz who cares for her and is a picture of a Redeemer. Boaz redeems the inheritance that belonged to the Hebrew widow Naomi and in the deal, gets the Land and a wife in Ruth. The last portion of the Book of Ruth gives us the line of the ten generations from Pharez through Boaz and Ruth to their descendants. So Boaz had Obed, which meant server, and Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse was the Father of David, and David brings us to the next Covenant. Why do you think God would use someone so despised in the eyes of others to bring about something so beautiful? Perhaps He is showing us that we ourselves, no matter how sinful we are, however ugly we see ourselves in His sight, we are important to Him and loved by Him. God will use anyone that is willing to be used as we see in the picture of Ruth's loving heart. We have now seen the DNA thread weave from Adam to David and we pick up the story in the Book of Samuel Chapter 18 Samuel was a...
Revelation 3Welcome back to Moments with MoniI'm so glad you're here. Today's Episode is on the last three of the seven churches of RevelationA bit about their HistoryHow God revolved Himself to themWhat the commendations were to themWhat the warnings or counsel were to themWhat the promises are to the OvercomerINTRODUCTIONBlessings and prayers to and for you during this Christmas Season 2020Wether you are able to listen now or later, my prayer is that you digging deeper into God's Word to find the treasures hidden within. Mine God's Word as if you are mining for gold. For His Word is lamp to show us where and how to step and a Light that exposes darkness and all of it's pitfalls Last week we looked at the first four churches of Revelation. The sister Churches in Asia Minor who were sent a letter. That letter came from Jesus to the Angel to John to those in the seven churches to us today. God's word transcends time and is a message to our hearts today. Link previous Episode in show notes If you missed the previous episode you can find the link belowThe next church on the list is Sardis in Revelation 3:1-6Last time I mentioned how important it is to be aware of the Historical and Geographical context of the scripture. It helps us see the writings of the Churches History here in Revelation in the true light. If we just do the reading of the story and make a quick judgement based on our own thoughts, we miss the whole picture. Stories online or stories we read can be fairy tales in our minds eye, and dismissed as such. However, if you look at the Historical and Geographical aspects of these seven churches, we get a “3D” picture of Reality.Sardis, once a part of an Ancient Persian Kingdom, Lydia, with a very polytheistic environment liberated in 340 B.C. Sardis means “escaping” and was one of the seven churches in the Roman Provence of Asia, or Modern Turkey, filled with worship of false gods. Sardis was known for it's gold and wealth. The city was destroyed in the 16th century by the Persian Army. John writes what Jesus told him to say to the church of Sardis. Jesus revealed Himself to the Sardis church as ”One with the seven Spirits of God and seven stars in His hands” and quickly tells them, “ I know your works, that you have a name, a reputation of character and reveals it as one who is alive, but dead. Giving us a picture of a corpse who walks around.... Philadelphia which means “brotherly love”Thirty miles East of Sardis, and about 50 miles from Laodecia, was the church of Philadelphia, representing a faithful church. Founded in AD 17. It was the newest of the cities and almost destroyed by earthquakes in that same year. Philadelphia resisted Moslem take over, and became an island of Christianity.Jesus revealed Himself to the Philadelphia church as, He who has the Keys of David and He that opens the door that no one can shut, and what He shuts, no one can open. If you studied through the Covenant Series here on Moments with Moni, you might remember the Covenant with David that proclaimed a descendant of his would forever more sit on the throne for eternity. Yes, here is the fulfillment of the New Covenant. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, He now holds the Keys to death and Hell, and is sitting at the right Hand of God, waiting until the time that God puts all of His enemies under his feet. His work is done, and He is waiting in Heaven To the Church in Philadelphia Jesus says, I know your works and that you have just a little strength left. I also know that you have obeyed my Word and have not denied my name...... Most Bible Scholars see the hour of trial as prophetic reference to the Great...
Today's Topics:ChurchKaffee KlatschHebrewsCovenant SeriesRevelationJesusDeconstructionThe End of the Church AgeIt was a beautiful Sunday morning at the Church building this past week. A time of Worship and a time of listening to the book of Hebrews. “Let us hold on tight to the profession of or faith in Jesus, the better sacrifice.” It tied into the end of the Biblical Covenant Series that finished last week. Since we have come to end, there must be a new beginning, which was announced on last Friday's Kaffee Klatsch Episode. The Covenant Series ended with an explanation of the time line of the Covenants, which led into a quick explanation of the End Times of this Church Age. While living in this part of History, we can see the world stage being set for the outplaying of the Revelation of Jesus Christ. To myself, and those of you that have read the back of the Book, we already have to answers to many of the worlds questions. We can see the cultural struggle of good and evil clashing before our very eyes. The foundational shift from Biblical thinking where God and His word is the ultimate authority still stand as truth. However, the mind shift of those who are attempting to crack this Biblical foundation, by Deconstructing and chiseling at it's base isattempting to cause the erosion of the beautiful, abundant life that our God had intended for His children back in the Garden of Eden, in the beginning. On the journey here on Moments with Moni, we will be making a huge leap from the beginning of time, to the end of the Age, into the Book of Revelation! I trust that you have found God's word to be faithful and true through the account of the Covenants, and can now move onto more of God's infallible word. As we dive into Revelation, the plan is to take a literal, Historical approach, keeping in mind that this will not discount parable,s symbols, or figures of speech. Scripture, being God breathed, is infallible, however humankind is not. If we come across something that seems like a discrepancy, it is worth our while to dig deeper until we find what we might have overlooked. The prophecy that we will be coming face to face with is a “forth telling of God's word.” The de-bunking of Christianity tends to include new revelations that may not agree with the scriptures, and in turn will hold no water but will in the end, be burned up like straw. Context is another extrememly important aspect of reading through the Bible. If we take a pre text and turn it into the main text, it is taken out of context.Aside from the studying parameters, there is nothing on the christian calendar that has to happen before the great snatching away of God's people. However, before you feel the need to turn this off due to disagreement, take the time to walk through the Covenant Series to understand the time frames of different people through world History and world future and beyond. Not all will be on the same path. It is with all my heart I pray for the quick return of Jesus to take His Bride home, and yet, I know that the longer He takes to fullfill this snatching away, His mercy and patience plays out for more time for those who have not repented yet. With each new day on earth there is another opportunity to turn from our own ways, agree with God, and walk with Him, eventually, right into the heavenlies. So I try not to be impatient and use my time widely to share His message of Hope. Revelation is the first book of the Bible that I ever read. It scared the begeebers out of me at 10 years old as I read it under the covers at night with a flashlight. Now some 50 years later, I can say that now that I have read and comprehend more of the rest oof all the Books in the Bible, Revelation brings much needed peace and tranquility even...
