(00:00) Insightful Golf Talk With Experts This chapter kicks off with an enthusiastic conversation about recent golf tournaments and the buzz around betting, specifically referencing Scotty Scheffler and the excitement surrounding big wins. We then shift our focus to the upcoming golf events like the Ryder Cup and speculate on the role and challenges of a Ryder Cup captain, pondering whether the captain can maintain focus amid various distractions. As we move forward, I share insights from my recent golf clinics, specifically the "Roll it and Hole it" clinic. Here, I explore the fundamental skills necessary for effective putting, emphasizing the importance of mechanics, aim, and distance control. The discussion concludes with a brief overview of green reading, highlighting the importance of knowing where to aim to improve putting accuracy. (12:28) Navigating Golf Instruction and Information This chapter explores the journey of improving in golf by alternating between easier and tougher courses to build confidence and skill. We discuss the importance of controlling the golf ball flight and making consistent contact with the center of the clubface. By simplifying the approach to swinging and focusing on fundamentals, the game becomes less daunting. We also address the complexities introduced by overthinking and consuming too much theoretical advice from unverified sources on social media. Finally, we touch on the lack of regulation in golf instruction, emphasizing the freedom of expression and the challenges that come with it in the modern age of digital platforms. (23:59) Mastering Golf Skills for Success This chapter explores the ambitious journey of an amateur golfer with a 15 handicap attempting to reach scratch level within 90 days, dedicating himself entirely to golf without the distraction of work. We discuss the importance of controlling the golf ball and the key elements needed to achieve such a drastic improvement, emphasizing practice, lessons, and guidance from top coaches, like one of Tommy Fleetwood's. The conversation highlights the challenges of going from a 15 to a 5 handicap, and then the even more difficult task of reaching scratch, which involves mastering emotional control, consistency, and focus. We also touch on the importance of putting and getting up and down, using anecdotes like a 71-year-old golfer who excelled at these skills, showcasing how critical they are in achieving lower scores. Additionally, we explore the advantages left-handed golfers might have on certain courses, providing insights into how small strategic elements can impact a game. (35:52) The Allure and Challenges of Golf This chapter takes us on a journey through the fascinating world of golf and the surprising prowess of athletes in the sport. We kick things off with an entertaining story about Lee Trevino, a legendary hustler in golf, who managed to impress Phil Mickelson with his charm and skills on the course. The conversation touches on the athleticism required for golf and how athletes from various sports often bring immense power but sometimes struggle with precision. We also discuss the challenges athletes face when transitioning to golf, with anecdotes about Major League Baseball players, NFL stars, and even Dan Majerle, a former NBA player known for his impressive golf swing despite physical limitations. Lastly, we share insights from Tom Bergeron, who humorously explains why he avoids golf due to his addictive personality, emphasizing the dedication required to excel in the sport. (43:49) Discovering Golf Obsessions This chapter explores the passion and obsession that golf can ignite in individuals, particularly focusing on the art of striking the golf ball perfectly. We discuss the joy and satisfaction that come from hitting the ball with precision and how this can captivate players, turning a casual interest into a deep passion for the game. Encouraging listeners to give golf a try, we suggest taking a few lessons and borrowing clubs to experience the thrill of the game firsthand. Whether you have an addictive personality or not, golf has something for everyone and can quickly become an obsession. Join us next week as we continue to explore the world of golf.

To properly tell the story of the Miami Heat becoming one of the NBA's most prestigious franchises, you have to start in the Spring of 1995. Pat Riley was on the last year of his contract with the New York Knicks, where he was the Head Coach for four years. Riley had taken the Knicks from sub .500 to Eastern Conference Champions in just a few years, and he wanted a compensation package that properly reflected his value. Riley asked Knicks management for a big contract, a hefty ownership stake, and total control of the team's basketball operations. The Knicks balked at Riley's demands, so he shifted his attention to Miami. The Heat - who joined the NBA as an expansion team in 1989 - failed to win more than 42 games in their first seven years in the league. Mickey Arison took control of the team in 1995 and didn't want to settle for mediocrity. Through a mutual friend, Arison started talking to Riley while he finished out his last year in New York. Riley presented a similar list of demands to Arison. He wanted a $50 million contract, a 10% ownership in the team upon signing, an additional 10% over time, a limo service to and from games, and a $500 per-diem. In addition to all of that, he asked that the Heat buy his homes in LA and New York. Arison agreed, and Riley took the command in 1995-96.During his first season in Miami, Riley traded for 30-year-old Tim Hardaway, a 3x All-Star who some thought was over the hill. On this episode, Hardaway takes us back to his first days in Miami and the Heat's breakout 1996-97 campaign. Joining Hardaway in South Beach in 1997 were Alonzo Mourning, Dan Majerle, Jamal Mashburn and PJ Brown. They won 61 games and had the #1 defense in the league. In the playoffs, they beat Orlando in Round 1, followed by an iconic 7-game, fight-filled ECSF vs. the Knicks, Riley's old team.Subscribe to Forgotten Seasons! I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.

On this week's episode of GOLF's Subpar, former NBA player Dan Majerle joins former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost and his close friend and on course rival Drew Stoltz for an exclusive, in-studio, interview. The three-time NBA All-Star talks being part of the second Dream Team, talking golf while playing basketball against Michael Jordan, and if he trusts Charles Barkley with his driver more than Shaq at the free throw line.
GCU insider Paul Coro joins the podcast on Monday afternoon. The Lopes have a new head coach, new system and a new opportunity to do big things.Former Vanderbilt star Bryce Drew is at the helm in Phoenix. Drew is most remembered for hitting a buzzer-beater shot to send his Alma Mater Valparaiso into round two of the NCAA Tournament. You'll have to check it out on YouTube. Drew takes over for Dan Majerle and actually has a pretty full cupboard to work with. Alessandro Lever and Jovan Blacksher Jr. return. Mikey Dixon is back. Gabe McGlothan is healthy. And Oscar Frayer returns after sitting out the 2019-20 season due to academic issues. Drew brought in a pair of freshman as well as some Division I transfers. Perhaps the biggest name Drew brought in (no pun intended) is 7-footer Asbjørn Midtgaard from Wichita State. Coro says that Midtgaard gives the Lopes rim protection, which GCU hasn't seen in some time. Add in guard Sean Miller-Moore from Oregon State and freshman Liam Lloyd and Jayden Stone and Drew has a pretty solid roster.GCU also released its non-conference schedule on Monday. The Lopes host Grambling State to open the season and also host crosstown foe Arizona State in the first-ever meeting between the schools. GCU travels to Las Vegas in December to take on San Francisco and Colorado. Coro believes it is a challenging schedule and that there are some really sneaky games in there like the season opener and the final non-conference game in February against CSU Northridge. Coro also talks about what to expect offensively from the Lopes under Drew. With a big man inside, Coro believes that Alessandro Lever can expand his game even more and show that he is a true stretch-4 man. Paul Coro is the insider for a reason and gives some great information in this episode of the WAC Hoops Digest podcast.Remember to download the Podbean app and follow the WAC Hoops Digest Podcast so you don’t miss an episode. Chicago legend Tim Hardaway joins the fellas this week on Knuckleheads with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles. Tim takes us through his journey growing up in Chicago, getting his handles on the city sidewalks, heading off to UTEP, and creating the ‘UTEP two-step’. Laugh along as Tim tells us how Don Nelson snatched him late in the draft and then just how confident he got after his first All-Star Game. Hear about the creation of Run TMC and learn why that scoring phenomenon lasted for only two seasons. Then Tim gets into his Miami years, what it was like ballin’ in the mid ‘90s, and how great it feels to have his jersey retired by the Heat. Tim then discusses Tim Jr. playing in the league and tells a hilarious story about the last time they’ll ever play one-on-one. Tim Hardaway is no joke but he’s got a lot of ‘em! You won’t want to miss this one.
