This was like visiting an old friend, albeit an old friend that'll shank you into the rough and screw you over every chance it gets. By today's standards, Hot Shots probably seems a little archaic. It's the classic 3-click system, the graphics are, well, PSOne graphics, and the gameplay can be brutally unforgiving. But look beyond that and what you have is the ground work for a series that so many people have fallen in love with over the years. I wouldn't necessarily say I prefer these to Mario Golf, but there's an argument for sure. My guest this week is the official referee of RTG, Mike The Ref. We both love sports games, and as such, both love Hot Shots Golf. We talk about how tough this game can be, how far the genre has come, and of course, the legendary Hot Shots multiplayer. And before we tee off, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks about Nintendo's consumer-unfriendly practices (which I agree with). Where do I stand on Canadian teams in the Stanley Cup Playoffs?? And yes, I address the new Ecco the Dolphin game. Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 old-school golf games: Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf, NES Open, and Kirby's Dream Course. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Nick and Mark are amped over last weeks Cam Smith news that he will be playing the NSW Open at Murray Downs in November, so much so that we start the show by calling Golf NSW COO Graeme Phillipson to ask him how it happened, and how Golf NSW pulled off such a fantastic get. Great chat, and some fantastic insights into the process, and what it now means for the NSW Open.We discuss the Fedex Cup final round, and the win (sort of) by Scottie Scheffler. Mark is annoyed that one of the commentators described it as a wire to wire win when it clearly wasn't, Nick agrees. We discuss if it counts as a win given the way the final was structured. And Nick talks through Scheffler's shank in the final round. And we talk about the Sahith Theegala incident in the bunker and the self-reporting that cost him a lazy 2.5 million.Nick starts telling us about an unfortunate incident he had in Abu Dhabi where he self-reported, which is interrupted when the hotline rings, and it's Talk Birdie Wolfpack member Sammy J from Melbourne who has a couple of comments on women's golf participation, and diversity more broadly in golf. He makes some excellent points, and then undoes all his good work by telling us a joke that he thinks Marko will enjoy. Mark does, Nick and Dan do not.Back to Nick's Abu Dhabi story, and then Mark tells a cracker about Craig Parry and Nick Faldo playing in Bali. It's very funny, although not for Sir Nick who was leading by a boatload when disaster struck, courtesy of Craig Parry. After the turn, Nick gives us a great Scottie Scheffler stat. Then, thanks to our mates at Southern Golf Club, Mark lists his Top 5 weird stuff in the golf swings of some champions. Nick has watched the Lee Trevino documentary at the weekend, Mark is horrified that Nick was out of the lounge room making a coffee and missed the best part!A fun story about PING's Bubba Watson from Nick, and Mark talks about the 'flags' at Augusta. Lots to run through in the PING Global results from Nick, and Nick names what hole at what course is the hardest tee shot in the world of golf.As usual plenty of feedback to run through, so much so that we run out of time, so we'll drop back later this week and do another Q&A bonus pod.And thanks to the new watchMynumbers app, download from the App Store or Google Play, Nicks masterclass today is on spinning the ball on your wedge shots.A big thanks to our great Talk Birdie partners:PING will help you play your best, like they have for Nick O'Hern. The numbers are staggering... Over 6 decades of work... 300+ covers... and countless stories that go with each one of them. Walter Iooss is the most prolific photographer Sports Illustrated has ever had. There is a reason it's not called Sports Literature, but Sports Illustrated... and that's because of the shooters like Iooss who captured a generation of sports idols with their photos. A time when the only way to see Willie Mays, Elgin Baylor, Lee Trevino, Joe Namath and so many more was through the weekly magazine and the photos provided by men like Walter Iooss. Starting as a teenager, Walter 's love for sports was equally matched with his passion for photography. After sending in a few photos from a NY Giants football game he and his father attended to an editor at SI he was given an assignment... he was so young, his dad had to drive him to it. And from there, a career like none other in the field of Sports Photography was born. From The Catch to Broadway Joe at Super Bowl III, Iooss had a habit of being in the right place at the right time and made a career out of it. Oh... and did we mention his numerous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoots? Ever heard of Christie, or Tyra, or Elle or Paulina? A generation of super models helped made famous because they were in front of the lens of a Walter Iooss camera. What's his best shot? Who did he laugh at with the most? How did he get the Swimsuit gig and much more as we talk with the man that helped put SI on the map --- Walter Iooss... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Some of the most recognizable names in golf used to walk the greens at Rio Pinar Golf. Now the new owners are hoping they will inspire the next golf greats to get their start in East Orange County with their family at their side. Gregor Tilch-Jensen and his wife recently bought Rio Pinar Golf and the duo isn't wasting any time breathing new life into the historic golf course. If the walls could talk they would probably tell you all about the Florida Citrus Open. “It was a great event they hosted here with an unbelievable winner's list, from Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Hale Irwin, Julius Boros, all Hall of Famers and people who tried to win here and never did, Sam Sneade, Jack Nicklaus, they were here, couldn't do it.” But, the walls would also tell you about the new owners' plans to go beyond that history. Tilch-Jensen stood on the green telling the hosts of Florida's Fourth Estate that he sees this location as less “members only” and more community. “We want to be a destination for families,” Tilch-Jensen said. He said he is bringing new technology to his hitting bays, building a pickleball court and re-furbishing one of his tennis courts. The amateur golfer turned instructor, turned golf course owner told hosts Matt Austin and Ginger Gadsden that creating a space where parents and kids can play together is near and dear to his heart. “My kids love golf as well. My wife and I met on a golf course. It's just part of our life, it always has been,” Tilch-Jensen said. He admitted it's not as popular of a sport in his home country of Germany, but once he got a hold of a golf club, he fell in love and wanted to introduce that passion to the next generation of golf enthusiasts. To do that he said he has developed a long-term plan, which involves moving his wife and their children to Central Florida. He said he is committed to making Rio Pinar Golf a success again. “You want to make it work and you don't want to let down the people you love the most,” he said. His wife is fully onboard and has focused on helping to redesign the interior of the golf course's clubhouse. “It's not really like a golf club, it's really loungy-modern, which is located at a golf course. Leaving the former Champions' Room, which is now the Oak Room, just modernize that a little bit, which you still have the history part of it and still have the trophy from Arnold Palmer in it, but that's a separate space, so now again, everyone feels comfortable,” he said. To learn more about Tilch-Jensen's plans for Rio Pinar Golf check out Florida's Fourth Estate. You can download the podcast from wherever you listen to podcasts and watch it anytime on News 6+. Pine & Oak Tavern sits inside the newly renovated Rio Pinar Golf course, but despite its new look, the walls are covered in history. “Arnold Palmer's trophy is on the wall behind us and Lee Trevino is a champion here and Hal Irwin and a lot of the great old golfers. The history is just priceless. That's one of the reasons why the property is purchased. You can buy a golf club, but you can't buy the history,” said Greg Allowe, the president of Delaney Hospitality, which owns Pine & Oak. Allowe partnered with the new owners of Rio Pinar to bring Pine & Oak to life. The golf club had been mothballed for several years before it was purchased, so it was in need of an update by the time Allowe came to it. “So we had to start from the beginning and the vision was not to be a stodgy old country club,” Allowe said. “We wanted to modernize it — make it more relevant with keeping some of the traditions in place. So if you look in the main part of the restaurant, you'll see the artwork is not typical for for a golf club. We wanted to build a restaurant that was a restaurant that just happened to be located at a golf club, not a golf club restaurant.” Allowe was not a stranger to restaurant ownership. He also owns Delaney's Tavern, inside the Delany Hotel, in downtown Orlando. The businessman brought in Anthony Albino, his corporate chef who had helped to develop the menu at Delaney's Tavern. “Some of the flavors of (Delaney's Tavern) are here but we wanted also make this property a little bit more unique so, the menu is tailored a bit more for this market,” Allowe said. Albino came to the culinary world following a career change. Previously, he worked as a mortgage broker until 2008. “That's when I put myself through college,” Albino said. “I went to attend Le Cordon Bleu.” Albino said he got his passion for cooking from his family, especially his grandmother. “I grew up with a single mom. So every year she sent me down to Puerto Rico to live with my grandma,” the chef said. “And my grandma cooked every day, no matter who was coming by, or who was who was in the house. She cooked every day and people just stopped buy to eat — so I just got a passion and love for cooking from her.” On the latest episode of Florida Foodie, Allowe shares more of the history behind Rio Pinar and Pine & Oak, while Albino shows off some of the menu. Why did the DOD45 Show cross the road? To get to episode 77 you nitwits!….Lookie what we have here. Finally! I've been wanting to have stand up comedians as DOD45 guests forever now, and it's just our luck we landed one this week with our guest, comedian, content creator, Twitch streamer & self-described Weeb, Lisa Wallen!!! We have a very satisfying chat with Lisa, covering a plethora of things, including Jimmy Carr's invitation to audience heckling, an old Madea joke of Lisa's that prompted a shocking response from an audience member, her opinions on comedy today and comedy from the 90s, which she would rather visit on vacation, The Mona Lisa or The Great Wall of China and which celeb she'd rather have a date with out of Charlie Sheen in Wall Street or Leonardo Di Caprio in Wolf of Wall Street of which she begrudgingly chose one. You can expect some laughs, and you can expect we talk about anime and her recent trip to Japan, but you probably never imagined we also have conversation over people like Lee Majors, Lee Trevino, Lisa Simpson, Lisa Loud, who the fuck is Lisa Loud, Bruce Lee and Jet Li and how do you think Lisa answers the question if she'd rather be in a book club or a biker club? You'll have to watch to find out. If you're a fan of comedy, if your a fan of anime, if your a fan of Twitch streaming, what the hell am I getting at, if you're a fan of our show, then slap some duct tape over your mouth, slip some tooth picks in your eyelids, dim the house lights, release whatever you have left in your guts now, so you don't project it out of your non-duct-taped hole during this episode and enjoy our discussion with the hilarious and lovely Lisa Wallen on this episode 77 of The DOD45 Show. Brian Manzella is a perennial member of Golf Digest magazine's 50 Best Teachers in America List. He is also a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher in America. His 40-year+ teaching career includes a long tutelage under the late Ben Doyle, and a lengthy relationship with PGA Champion, and multiple PGA TOUR winner David Toms. Brian joins #OntheMark to illustrate the Alpha, Beta and Gamma Axes and how the golf-club performs in relation to them throughout the golfswing. His insights are a function of the 3D Golf-swing Research done by the Michael Jacobs team. Using the "Jacobs' 3D Airplane he describes and illustrates the 3 Dimensional Kinetics the club undergoes during the golfswing. He shows how and when the club is 'pushed or pulled' and when it is torqued. Very importantly he illustrates how research on over three thousand golf-swings has proved that a good ball-striker makes the sum of the 'Moments Alpha' or 'Rotaters' positive in the transition into the downswing. Brian illustrates the importance of this move in order to allay misunderstandings about shallowing the club in the downswing. He shows drills and PGA TOUR examples, like Rory McIlroy and Lee Trevino to galvanize his points and insights. He also explains how Sergio Garcia strikes the golf ball so well by describing how various hand-paths results in different Alpha, Beta and Gamma Forces and Torques. It may sound complicated but it is really easy to learn to 'tumble' and not 'flop' the shaft angle in the downswing to strike the ball more powerfully and crisply.
