KiddChris and Sara discuss a weird online listing for a Brantley Gilbert concert supposedly happening at a house in Loveland, questioning its legitimacy and wondering if people will show up there instead of the Zac Brown Band concert where Brantley Gilbert is the opener. They cover a shooting incident at a Popeye's in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the manager is accused of shooting an employee over burnt biscuits.KiddChris and Sara talk about the upcoming Shark Week special "Dancing with the Sharks" hosted by Tom Bergeron, where divers perform underwater routines with real sharks.Today's show ends with a VERY CLASSIC montage of prank calls to escort services by some comedian friends of the radio show.
Tom Bergeron shares the wonderful story of him actually calling the three stooges when he was a kid. It seems people will never stop taking a dump where they shouldn't. We celebrate Bob Seger's 80th birthday and we explain how a lady saved her dog from being eaten by a bear by using a bag of cookies. And make no mistake, we are a teaching podcast; I share two words that if used by you, proves you are lying. By not listening, you only harm yourself.
Longtime Flopcast listeners (those poor souls) know that every 100 episodes, we celebrate V66, Boston's own music video TV channel of the mid-80s. This time, however, we have a special guest: Eric Green, director of the V66 documentary, Life on the V! And because this is episode 666, we're looking at the heavy metal and hard rock bands and videos of the V66 era. It was a time when catchy melodies and goofy visuals helped acts like Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister score huge Top 40 hits. The Kiss guys lost the makeup, Van Halen switched from Dave to Sammy, Aerosmith made their (rap-assisted) comeback, Mötley Crüe freaked everybody out, and Bon Jovi opened the floodgates for a cacophony of hair metal. Meanwhile on the local scene, V66 promoted a video filmed at a Boston-area high school by an unknown hard rock band called Extreme. And as the New England Patriots prepared for Super Bowl 1986, V66 was there with a couple of low budget quickie music videos, including the goofy metal tune "Skin the Bears." (Spoiler: The Patriots absolutely did not skin the Bears.) Also: Kevin finds V66 VJ David O'Leary at a Taylor Dayne show! Eric traces the history of Nirvana in Boston! Tom Bergeron gets in touch with the kids on Rap Around! And if you're in the Boston area, you can join us for a special screening of Life on the V at the Somerville Theatre on February 27th! Kids, it's the 40th anniversary of V66. You deserve a night out, surrounded by Junior Mint-chomping 80s nerds who know how to neutron dance. Life on the V! Green's Party! And our regular links... Magician, comedian, and actor Penn Jillette has been casting spells on audiences for decades, but was his time on season six of Dancing with the Stars magical? Penn tells Cheryl why he feels DWTS was one of the most manipulative shows he's ever been on . . . and he was on Celebrity Apprentice twice! What he found unsavory, his only regret, what it was like behind-the-scenes before their dances, his thoughts on Tom Bergeron and the judges, and Penn turns the tables on Cheryl! Penn also talks about his CW show, 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us,' and being one the longest-running headliners in Vegas history! Tom Bergeron on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson What a blast to sit down again with the just honored inaugural recipient of The Sam Rubin Award from The Critics Choice Association and Emmy-Winner, Tom Bergeron. The humble humanitarian was as funny and feisty as ever regaling us with one show biz gold story after another and commanding us to Google what he deemed unworthy of repeating (why he left the “dancing show”). He actually scooped it on this very show almost two years ago to the day. We started with Tom's current FLiRT with COVID, other than some residual fatigue, in under two weeks, thankfully, it's in the rear-view. His daily routine, well, most of it anyway, and how structure affords him freedom. We talked his and Lois's favorite and current binges, Midsomer Murders and The Veil, for two, and favorite people. Carl Reiner, how they met, and how their friendship developed, likewise, Dick Van Dyke, and William Shatner… or Bill, as he calls him, with whom he has a show optioned - oh please let it get made so we get to be a fly on their snarky friendship wall! He told a great story about Mel Brooks and Bill Cullen. We talked his early years - high school - as a DJ - interviewing Larry Fine and Moe Howard and surprising and delighting his classmates. His crush on “my nun,” and his surprise many years later. Getting a morning show, and then, a weekly children's TV show, which ultimately led to…Hollywood Squares - fabulous stories about Whoopi, Simon, Gilbert! Sad sweetness about his America's Funniest Home Videos compadre, Bob Saget, and losing John Ritter. Tom mostly slid over “the dancing show” this go-‘round, other than his extreme gratitude and readiness after 15 years to be done with it. He said he's done with hosting - but admits, you never know if the exact right thing were to come along… but, he's enjoying retirement. For now. He's writing, a novel… about 500 words a day, and he likes his characters… who knows what'll come. I'm putting my money on that Shatner/Bergeron bromantic comedy! Come on boys, with the state of the world, we could sure use the laughs. I adore this man, touched to the core that he remembered my Samantha when talking about his. They're both getting married. Mazel Tovs all around! Here's to friends who show up every two years and always bring their A game. I'll be smiling for days. Today's guest certainly generated a lot of buzz when he joined Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars! Trump's Former White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer, joins Cheryl to share his fascinating journey into politics and his time on the hardwood! Sean reveals that producers reached out to him before he even left the White House, what he requested from executives before agreeing to do the show, and his thoughts and feelings about Tom Bergeron's comments about him. Plus, a candid conversation about his costumes, what his partner Lindsay would always say to him, Tucker Carlson's advice about doing the show, and a spicy Rapid Fire Q&A! It is the semifinal round and the three couples left have a lot to live up to. Kelly Monaco and Alec Mazo seem to be the judges favorites as Joey McIntryre and Ashley Delgrosso are losing momentum and it showed in their rehearsal packages, but John O'Hurley and Charlotte Jorgensen who had been the couple to watch should not be counted out even though they had Tom Bergeron wondering if they peaked too soon. So much to unpack in the latest rewatch of this inaugural season.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Host, comedian, New York Times Best Selling Author, and one of the most controversial winners of Dancing With the Stars is on the pod! Bobby Bones opens up to Cheryl about his time on season 27 of DWTS, including what his relationship with Sharna was really like at the time, how he felt about the massive social media hate, and for the first time ever, he talks about being asked to take over for Tom Bergeron . . . Plus, Bobby reveals what an executive told him about his fan votes, shares Emmitt Smith's advice right before his final dance, and answers fan questions!
