The debate today about Ukraine reflects four time-tested ways of thinking about America's role in the world. Nationalists urge America to stay out of Ukraine and conflicts in general outside the western hemisphere. Realists, now called Restrainers, envision a “frozen conflict” or status quo outcome that splits the difference between western and Russian/ Chinese interests in Ukraine and Taiwan. Liberal internationalists appeal to diplomacy and the Minsk process to reach a cease fire, demilitarization and gradual settlement of disputes through peaceful processes and institutions. Finally, conservative internationalists address the conflict in ideological terms, authoritarian versus democratic governments, and insist that freedom “wins” in Ukraine and Taiwan through a Cold War process of balancing power and eventual negotiations that tilt toward freedom. About the Speaker Henry R. Nau is an Emeritus Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington University. He holds a B.S. degree in Economics, Politics and Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). We've listened to fantastic essays on what a more egalitarian future might look like, and we've been pointed towards critical changes that our world and our culture are sorely overdue for. On today's episode, we're going to be talking about what it takes to actually make those changes happen, about the process of change itself. We'll be talking about how challenging the idea of change can be, about some of the forces which fight against it – tooth and nail – and about the harm that those conflicts can cause. But ultimately, we're going to be talking about how essential these acts of transformation are – for ourselves, for our culture, for our world – and how everyday people just like you and I can make these changes manifest.To help us in this exploration we're joined by Shauna Rensch and Lauren Prakke. She grew up in the north suburbs of Chicago but moved to Arizona with her family at the end of high school. She went to ASU looking at various degrees, but decided on education before taking time off to get married and have her first child. She went back to school in order to complete a bachelor's degree at NAU and started teaching. She has taught from kindergarten through sixth grade but loves teaching math above anything else. She completed a master's in elementary education from NAU in 2015. She is currently taking time off from teaching but looks forward to more work within the education field in the future. Shauna loves reading, embroidery, long walks with beautiful views and road trips with her family.Lauren Prakke (she/her) is a cultural innovator, strategic advisor and futurist. Prakke founded Restless Buddha Productions which harnessed a team of international experts across a broad spectrum of the arts including film, theatre, art to simultaneously raise capital and social awareness. Restless Buddha has been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines from Vanity Fair to The Times. Prakke is an int'l lecturer, writer, and curator of contemporary art, a theatre producer and a social activist with an expertise on woman's issues. Prakke is a TED speaker, founded & chaired The Tate Young Patrons at The Tate, served as co-chair of Women for Women International Leadership, Chairman of The Whitechapel Patrons and on the Board of Women of the World at The Southbank Centre. Prakke was an Interest Rate Swaps broker in both NYC & in London for nearly a decade. She was graduated in 19th Century English Literature and has a post grad degree Contemporary Art. She is a relentless reader and an autodidact polymath.

"It's not chance. It's not talent on the team. It's what we talk about and how we train. That's never going to change. Regardless of what athletes we have, we're always going to be able to perform within some contained range – whether that's winning or 5th place, it's always going to be something that we're proud of.” My guest for today's episode is Nico Young. He is a star for Northern Arizona University's track and cross country team. He just finished second individually in the NCAA Cross Country Championships but led the Lumberjacks to their sixth national title in the last seven years. Before even arriving in Flagstaff, he was the sparkplug that kicked off Newbury Park High School's cross country and track dominance when he ran 9:05 for 3200 meters as a sophomore and then won a bunch of state and national titles as a junior and senior. It's been a great progression for him. He's lowered his personal best to 13:11 for the 5000m, which puts him at No. 3 on the all-time collegiate list. He was third at the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships in the event and then took eighth at the U.S. Outdoor Championships 5000m final. All of this and he's still just 20 years old. We touch on a bit of his progression, how he's handled that rise in an era of social media, what makes this NAU team special and also what it was like coming out as gay before the start of the cross country season. I appreciate Nico's openness in this conversation and I'm looking forward to seeing how fast he goes this weekend at the BU Season Opener, where he's the top seed in the men's 5000m. The 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships are in the books. The NAU dynasty continues on the men's side as they finished the day with 83 points tied with Oklahoma State but then won the head-to-head tiebreaker. It marked the first time that a tiebreaker determined the national champion. Stanford's Charles Hicks outkicked Nico Young in the final stretch to claim in the men's individual title. On the women's side N.C. State became the first school to go back-to-back since Villanova in 2009 and 2010. They were led by Katelyn Tuohy, who hunted down Florida's Parker Valby despite a 12-second gap and won the women's individual title. The Food and Drug Administration approved Tyrvaya (varenicline solution), a multidose nasal spray, to treat signs and symptoms of dry eye disease, about a year ago. Jeffrey Nau, PhD, MMS, CEO of Oyster Point Pharma, sat down with OIS Podcast host Paul Karpecki, OD, FAAO, to discuss the launch and his learnings over the year that was.  Since then, about 62,000 Tyrvaya prescriptions have been written. It's the first and only nasal spray designed for dry eye relief. Dr. Nau says refills and persistence numbers are strong.  Dr. Karpecki said he's noticed similar results in his own practice. Of patients who received a Tyrvaya sample, the requests for prescriptions and refills have been dramatic. While Oyster Point has release positive post hoc data of Tyrvaya, Dr. Nau said there's still a learning curve to overcome. Physicians simply aren't used to prescribing a nasal spray for dry eye. November 7, 2022: Michigan State opened its season against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks from the Big Sky conference with a final score of 73-55. Led by senior Joey Hauser who scored a double double with 18 pts on 6-12 shooting (4-8 from 3) and 10 rebounds the Spartans controlled the game from start to finish. Other performances of note was Pierre Brooks with 14 points on 4-7 3 pt shooting in 17 minutes and Jaxon Kohler with 6 points and 9 rebounds in 16 minutes of play. Defensively, the Spartans held NAU to 32% shooting and 27% from behind the line and outrebounded them 46-37. Not an overwhelming performance considering that this is one of the poorer teams they will face this year. Encouraging signs though from Tyson Walker who was aggressively hunting for his shot even though they weren't falling and being an absolute terror defensively on NAU's guards. November 5, 2022: The season opener is here as Michigan State hosts the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks from the Big Sky conference. Last year, NAU was 9-23 overall and 5-15 for a last place finish in conference play. They finished ranked 340 in KenPom where they didn't do anything very well on either side of the ball. Michigan State will look to get things set right before the gauntlet of games against multiple top 25 teams beginning on Friday against Gonzaga. Danska stjórnin gaf út í vor nýja skýrslu, Dansk sikkerhed og forsvar til 2035, þar sem augunum var ekkí síst beint að öryggis- og varnarmálum á norðurslóðum, við Færeyjar og Grænland. Í viðtali við Carsten Fjord-Larsen, flotaforinga og yfirmann danska flotans kom fram að nauðsynlegt væri að endurnýja skipin sem eiga að annast eftirlit á svæðinu. Þetta eru skip sem eru Íslendingum að góðu kunnug, Thetis, Triton, Hvítabjörnin og Vædderen, en þau eru tíðir gestir í Reykjavík, taka vistir og skipta um áhafnir á Íslandi.
