Brett kicks off the program talking about the emotional and significant release of Eden Alexander, the longest-held hostage by Hamas. He expresses deep empathy for the victim’s family and the unimaginable anguish they endured. Brett emphasizes that holding civilians as ransom is a war crime and strongly denounces the October 7th attacks, describing them as targeted assaults on innocent people. He contrasts the values of Israel—where religious freedom thrives—with the oppressive, violent tactics of terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. We’re joined by Carson Luger, chairman of the St. Philip Neri Italian Festival, to talk about the Italian Festival starting this Thursday and going on through Saturday. The festival will have authentic Italian food, artisans, and entertainment. This will be the 28th annual festival with tens of thousands of visitors over the years. For great authentic Italian food, good company, and a family-friendly night out, check out the St. Philip Neri Italian Festival this Thursday through Saturday! Bo Thompson from Good Morning BT is also here for this Monday's episode of Crossing the Streams. Brett and Bo talk about the Charlotte Hornets’ chances in the NBA Draft Lottery and the potential impact of landing top prospect Cooper Flagg. Reflecting on the team’s history—from Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning to more recent highs with Kemba Walker—they discuss how securing the number one pick could reignite Charlotte’s basketball legacy. The conversation then pivots to politics, as they analyze reports that Donald Trump may acquire a luxury jet from Qatar. Bo shares insights from his interview with Mick Mulvaney, highlighting the complexities of retrofitting such an aircraft to presidential standards and speculating on Trump’s true intentions—whether to use it as Air Force One, a future museum centerpiece, or a negotiating chip with Boeing. Bo also shares what he and Beth have coming up Tuesday on Good Morning BT! Listen here for all of this and more on The Brett Winterble Show! Many men tend to avoid doctors until injury or illness forces them into urgent care or the ER. Men are half as likely as women to visit the doctor for routine exams and preventive care, leaving them vulnerable to serious conditions like heart disease and cancer. Moreover, nearly 30% of men lack a primary care physician to manage their health. NBA Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning went public earlier this year about his surgery after receiving a diagnosis of stage 3 prostate cancer. He encourages men to take control of their health and not be afraid to seek medical attention. Host:Jonathan Fialkow, M.D., Cardiologist, Chief Medical Executive of Population Health, Value and Primary Care at Baptist Health South Florida Guest: Alonzo Mourning, NBA Hall of Famer, World Championship with the Miami HEAT

We open the show this week with Rob’s stories about Bobbleheads that do NOT look like him, after his wife confused his bobblehead for Tony Parker, and how he often gets mistaken for Alonzo Mourning and Horace Grant when out in public at times. It takes us down a wild road about NBA bobbles and statues that don’t look anything like the guys they are modeled after, specifically the tribute to Shaq’s LA statue.   Rob gets into the D-Lo situation with the Lakers, and why JJ decided to bench him, and why he immediately started performing better coming off the bench. We also dive into the rumors that DeAngelo will be used to make a move for another big like Brooke Lopez, and Rob says that as long as AD is healthy he doesn’t think the Lakers need another big. And we try to figure out why AD continues to shy away from wearing goggles, after getting popped in the eye the other night.   Plus the Giannis versus Jaylen Brown saga this week was confusing to us, as Giannis said he doesn’t want to be anyone’s friend but then plays games with guys on the court and is somehow surprised that guys don’t find that cute. B-Dog also lays out the trade scenarios for Dame Lillard to go to the Lakers, which would be so lopsided it would be comical. And the Cavaliers are showing the league just how talented they are, from Donovan Mitchell, to Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, they are deep and talented and play great defense… all leading to an impressive, unbeaten start to the season. Plus the conversation about Chet Holmgren’s injury leads into Victor Wembanyama – “the Skinny Committee” – and whether guys who don’t carry much weight can still be offensive dominators in the NBA.   There is SO much great audio this week, including a check-in on the Draymond Green technical counter, audio from the cockpit during the Auburn basketball team fight that forced the plane to turn around this weekend, the hilarious and amazing Michelle Beadle Nuggets flub, and Pat McAfee leading the wild LSU fans into cursing on live TV! And the audio of Saints coach Darren Rizzi saying he clogged the toilet in the coach’s office on his first day takes us into a conversation about clogging the toilet at other people’s homes. We also give out a Big Shot of the Week to a Texas firefighter who pulled a toddler out of the second story window of a burning building, and play a classic round of Shot Clock that, as always, ends in controversy.

Muggsy Bogues remains the shortest player ever to play in the NBA, at 5-foot-3. Bogues stayed in the league for 14 years, most notably as the point guard for the exciting Charlotte Hornets teams of the 1990s that also starred Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning and Dell Curry. At age 57, he still lives in the Charlotte area today. We sat down in Bogues' home, inside a memorabilia room full of keepsakes from his career. We discussed Bogues' experience being shot as a child; the neighborhood recreation center Bogues says changed his life; and the former star's insistence that he really could dunk. In addition, we discussed Bogues playing himself in the movie Space Jam; his watching dumbstruck as Latrell Sprewell choked coach P.J. Carlesimo; and Bogues gives us the inside scoop on what Steph Curry was like as a child. Sports Legends of the Carolinas is hosted by Scott Fowler. It's produced by Jeff Siner and Kata Stevens. I hope y'all came hungry and ready to be FED!!! In this episode, we're diving deeeeeeepppp with the incredible, Jesus-centered Trey Mourning! Trey's dad is NBA Hall of Famer & Miami Heat Legend Alonzo Mourning, so he's all too familiar with everything we talk about on the show. Trey's done a lot of intentional self work to find a way to be comfortable in his own, unique identity. But WAIT, there's moreeee!

Sports Legends of the Carolinas

Alonzo Mourning would have become the greatest player in Charlotte Hornets history — if he had only stuck around. Mourning played his first three NBA seasons with Charlotte after the Hornets drafted him No. 2 overall in 1992. He quickly turned into an intimidating, 6-foot-10 star for a Charlotte team on the rise. His scowl could scare you. His dunks could dent the hardwood. But a salary dispute led to the Hornets trading Mourning in November 1995 to Miami, where he became an even bigger star, won an NBA title in 2006 and eventually made the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2014. For his “Sports Legends of the Carolinas” interview, we met Mourning in Miami, where he still lives and works for the Miami Heat, now as the team's vice president of player programs. Mourning, 54, discussed his years in Charlotte in detail and said he wanted to stay in Charlotte badly enough that he would have given the Hornets a substantial financial discount if they would have valued him correctly and kept him. “I'm going to be extremely transparent to everybody out there,” Mourning said at one point in our interview. “Listen, I was willing to take a lot less money than I received in Miami.” Mourning also discussed his life-threatening kidney disease and subsequent transplant in 2003, as well as his memory of making the greatest shot in Charlotte Hornets history in 1993. Sports Legends of the Carolinas is hosted by Scott Fowler. It's produced by Loumay Alesali, Jeff Siner and Kata Stevens. To properly tell the story of the Miami Heat becoming one of the NBA's most prestigious franchises, you have to start in the Spring of 1995. Pat Riley was on the last year of his contract with the New York Knicks, where he was the Head Coach for four years. Riley had taken the Knicks from sub .500 to Eastern Conference Champions in just a few years, and he wanted a compensation package that properly reflected his value. Riley asked Knicks management for a big contract, a hefty ownership stake, and total control of the team's basketball operations. The Knicks balked at Riley's demands, so he shifted his attention to Miami. The Heat - who joined the NBA as an expansion team in 1989 - failed to win more than 42 games in their first seven years in the league. Mickey Arison took control of the team in 1995 and didn't want to settle for mediocrity. Through a mutual friend, Arison started talking to Riley while he finished out his last year in New York. Riley presented a similar list of demands to Arison. He wanted a $50 million contract, a 10% ownership in the team upon signing, an additional 10% over time, a limo service to and from games, and a $500 per-diem. In addition to all of that, he asked that the Heat buy his homes in LA and New York. Arison agreed, and Riley took the command in 1995-96.During his first season in Miami, Riley traded for 30-year-old Tim Hardaway, a 3x All-Star who some thought was over the hill. On this episode, Hardaway takes us back to his first days in Miami and the Heat's breakout 1996-97 campaign. Joining Hardaway in South Beach in 1997 were Alonzo Mourning, Dan Majerle, Jamal Mashburn and PJ Brown. They won 61 games and had the #1 defense in the league. In the playoffs, they beat Orlando in Round 1, followed by an iconic 7-game, fight-filled ECSF vs. the Knicks, Riley's old team.Subscribe to Forgotten Seasons!
