On the 27th of November, I had the good fortune to speak with a friend of the pod, Simon French, Head of Research at Panmure Liberum, and Thomas Moore, Senior Investment Director at Aberdeen, to discuss the UK Budget and its implications. Simon, who writes a regular column in the Times, is a go-to person on the UK economy, and Thomas is steeped in experience and understanding of the value and income attractions of UK equities, with a long and successful track record of managing the Aberdeen Equity Income Trust. We had a great chat and distinguished the essential differences between the UK economy and the UK market. But also at the risk of mansplaining, they also identified what more needs to be done for the UK economy to deliver growth and, importantly, to make UK assets more attractive to global capital. But of course, none of what you are about to hear is any kind of advice, but just for your information and hopefully entertainment. Please take personal financial advice before investing a penny of your money into these crazy markets. And with that said, please enjoy my conversation with Simon French and Thomas Moore. Brought to you by Progressive Equity.

Is it time for an NHS screening programme for prostate cancer? The disease is the most common cancer affecting men in the UK and kills more than 12,000 men every year. A decision is expected to be made by the National Screening Council later this week. Now, former prime minister Lord Cameron has become the latest high-profile figure to reveal his own diagnosis and has called for a national programme to target the groups most at risk. But could an increase in overdiagnosis do more harm than good? Niall is joined by Sky's science and medical correspondent Thomas Moore to discuss.

You're listening to American Ground Radio with Louis R. Avallone and Stephen Parr. This is the full show for November 4, 2025. 0:30 We break down the political standoff that has brought Washington to a halt — and threatens to ground the nation’s air travel. With a government shutdown dragging on, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warns of nationwide flight chaos. From TSA staffing shortages to potential economic fallout, Democratic leaders are playing a dangerous game with American livelihoods and national security. 9:30 Plus we cover the Top 3 Things You Need to Know. Former Vice President Dick Cheney passed away this week at the age of 84. It's election day for several states across the country. In New York City, communist anti-semite Zohran Mamdani is expected to win. The Federal Government shutdown has now passed 35 days, breaking all previous government shutdown records. 12:30 Get Performlyte from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 13:00 From Karl Marx’s 19th-century theories to modern-day political promises, we explore why the socialist dream has repeatedly turned into a nightmare. When the state promises to take care of everything, everyone ends up poorer, less free, and more dependent. 16:00 The American Mamas tackle the latest protest trend from the Left—a planned weeklong shopping strike meant to hurt Donald Trump’s economy. The Mamas aren’t buying it. They unpack why the protest makes zero economic sense — and how, in trying to “crash” the Trump economy, participants would only end up hurting small businesses and their own paychecks. If you'd like to ask our American Mamas a question, go to our website, AmericanGroundRadio.com/mamas and click on the Ask the Mamas button. 23:00 We take a look at the growing power struggle inside the Democratic Party — and the rise of New York socialist Zohran Mamdani. As polls suggest Mamdani’s likely win, this election could mark a political coup from within, pushing Democrats further left than ever before — a seismic shift not seen since George McGovern’s 1972 transformation attempt. 26:00 We Dig Deep into the early results of President Trump’s controversial decision to deploy the National Guard in Washington, D.C. — and the numbers speak for themselves. From a 60% drop in murders to carjackings down 70%, new reports show dramatic crime reductions since the launch of Trump’s “D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force.” The data proves that restoring order and accountability works — even as Democrats in cities like Chicago and Portland continue to fight Trump’s authority in court. 32:00 Get Prodovite Plus from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 32:30 We take a hard look at the complex legacy of former Vice President Dick Cheney — a man once considered one of the most influential figures in American foreign policy. We revisit the Iraq War and the long-debated question of whether the Bush administration knowingly exaggerated claims about weapons of mass destruction. And we look at Dick Cheney's later years—Liz Cheney’s role on the January 6th Committee to his own endorsement of Kamala Harris. 36:00 A new study out in Australia says hope may be the most powerful thing in your life, and that's a Bright Spot. The study from the Good News Network found hopeful individuals experience better health, stronger relationships, and greater success in education and work. The research shows that people who nurture hope are not only more resilient but also recover faster from setbacks and resist the pull of negativity. 40:00 We discuss a striking ripple effect of the “defund the police” movement—citizens increasingly turning to self-protection products. In China manufacturers are producing anti-stab or “urban protection wear” clothing, such as coats, shirts, and vests designed to resist knife attacks. Americans are feeling less safe and they're saying, "Whoa!" 41:30 And we end today's show with a story out of Lafayette, Louisiana. Teurlings Catholic High School celebrated a historic win against St. Thomas Moore on the football field. But what made the news was what happened after the game. This episode originally aired January 29, 2018. Religious scholar, psychotherapist and former monk Thomas Moore has dedicated his life to exploring the questions at the heart of theology. Thomas' classic 1992 book, "Care of the Soul," redefined spirituality in the modern age, and now he believes we are facing an exhilarating new phase of our spiritual evolution. Thomas and Oprah talk about ways to bring the soul and spirituality back into your life. While discussing his book "A Religion of One's Own," he explains the difference between the part of us that searches for more and the part of us that finds solace in what we have. His broad message resonates with those who see themselves as spiritual but not necessarily religious. Thomas' latest book is called “Ageless Soul: An Uplifting Meditation on the Art of Growing Older” in which he describes how to live agelessly, embrace our time in life and find the endless joy nestled inside our soul. Scientists say they have created an AI tool that could predict a patient's risk of hundreds of diseases years before they develop symptoms. The technology, if it works, could help revolutionise a health service which is always looking for ways to reduce costs and offer better patient care. However, with many people feeling the NHS can often struggle to implement new technologies - how ready is the health service for such a potentially groundbreaking tool?Who will be accountable if it gives a wrong diagnosis? And should people be scared AI is about to replace the human touch of their local GP?Niall is joined by Sky's science and medical correspondent Thomas Moore, who explains how the technology works and how prepared the NHS might be to introduce it. Dr Ben Maruthappu, founder of healthtech company Cera and former innovation adviser to NHS England, also reveals what other AI tools are on the horizon.Producers: Emily Hulme and Natalie KtenaEditor: Mike Bovill
A group of scientists think they can geoengineer the Arctic's melting ice, thickening it by pumping freezing seawater onto the surface during the winter. Geoengineering is the large-scale – and often experimental – manipulation of the environment in an attempt to slow down climate change. The question is, is it mad science? Or our last hope? Science correspondent Thomas Moore has visited the Climate Repair Unit in Cambridge, where they're attempting to thicken Arctic ice. He joins Niall to explain the research and the controversies surrounding it. Producer: Soila Apparicio Editor: Mike Bovill

The "King Kong" of weight loss drugs, Mounjaro, should finally be available on the NHS. So, why are thousands of patients still waiting for a treatment that could transform their lives? Mounjaro was meant to be rolled out across the NHS in England from 23 June for those with the highest clinical need. However, a Sky News investigation has found it is only available in eight out of 42 NHS integrated care boards, prompting accusations of a "postcode lottery". Many providers will not make it available until autumn, while nearly half of NHS boards said they will cap the number of people they treat due to a lack of funding. Our science and medical correspondent, Thomas Moore, joins Niall Paterson on the Sky News Daily podcast as he investigates how the shortfall will cost the NHS and wider society. Gary, who weighs 25 stone (159kg) and has several obesity-related conditions, speaks to Thomas about the implications of being told Mounjaro is not available in his area. Recent years have seen the advent of weight loss drugs, including Ozempic and Wegovy. They work by suppressing users' appetites, leading to weight loss. They've been described as wonder drugs but now, new figures from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) show they may be associated with inflammation of the pancreas, which could lead to death. Niall Paterson speaks to Sky's science correspondent, Thomas Moore, about these new findings and how cautious they should make us. We also hear from Lorna, a mother who got acute pancreatitis while she was on a weight loss drug - she believes the drugs are not worth the risks. Remember, good bourbon equals good times and good friends.Dive into the fascinating world of wheated bourbon with our comparative tasting of the 1792 Sweet Wheat 2025 release against its 2023 counterpart. This episode uncovers the remarkable transformation that happens when a quality wheated bourbon sits open for a year, developing complex layers of flavor that weren't present upon first pour. The Barton 1792 Distillery, established in 1879 by Thomas Moore, continues its tradition of excellence with their Sweet Wheat expression. At 91.2 proof, this bourbon replaces the traditional rye grain with wheat for a softer, more approachable profile while maintaining the distillery's signature character. Our side-by-side analysis reveals how oxygen exposure dramatically enhances this whiskey's profile over time. Our freshly-opened 2025 bottle immediately impressed with its long legs in the glass and a beautiful body that coated every corner of the mouth. The nose offered toasted notes with prominent vanilla, reminiscent of Brach's candy chews, eventually developing subtle cherry hints. On the palate, it delivered a remarkable cherry transition that one taster described as a "cherry flavored cigar" with a lengthy finish that earned it high marks in our rating system.Meanwhile, the 2023 bottle that had breathed for a year showed the magic that happens with patience. Its nose had transformed to showcase significant caramel development, while the taste featured an intense "momentary butterscotch" explosion that transitioned beautifully to cherry notes. Though its finish was shorter than the fresh bottle, its evolved complexity earned it equal overall points through different strengths.Whether you're new to wheated bourbons or a seasoned enthusiast, this episode offers valuable insights into how these spirits develop over time. The next time you crack a bottle of wheated bourbon, consider setting some aside to experience months later – you might be surprised by how dramatically it transforms. Father Marcel Taillon joins Patrick to discuss lying. (3:15) Lying is not a joke, Christ never lied. We all need to tell the truth and know the truth that is Christ (3:41) April Fool's Day done in the right sense is good thing, we just don’t want to scare or hurt someone by lying. (5:39) Peter denied Christ and lied. What might tempt us to not tell the truth. (5:58) St. Thomas Moore remained silent during his trial and so did Jesus. Thomas Moore did not deny his love for the Church or his live for the king. Silence can be a way of not denying the truth and avoiding being overly defensive. (10:54) Part of avoiding lying is to avoid over emphasizing our opinion of someone online and on social media even if it is true (11:15) Social media raises the potential to hurt and confuse people so we must be on guard. (13:06) Lying puts up roadblocks to true reconciliation (19:46) the Antibiotic of lying is mercy (22:17) Break 1 (24:00) Henry - I have a problem with lying. Compulsive lying. I will take stuff and stretch the excuse. My mom always finds out. (28:40) Jim Gaffigan (31:46) Tonya - My husband has a gambling problem. He says everybody lies and everybody tries to con everybody. Is everybody really that way? I don't believe that. (39:01) Break 2 (40:31) Scott - My brother and I were in a feud. I read 1 John 4-20 and that turned it all around for me. We're doing great now and are reconciled. (46:32) Al - My husband and lying. I can't trust him anymore. I ask him if he's lying, but I know he is. It's coming so easy and it's breaking my heart.

Weight loss injections like Wegovy and Mounjaro are being taken by so many people in the UK that obesity statistics could fall for the first time ever. More than 500,000 people in the UK are now on the drugs and could lose between 15-20% of their weight in just a few months. But around 95% of all patients using the medication are buying it privately, while the rollout on the NHS remains slow. On today's Sky News Daily, Niall Paterson is joined by our science and medical correspondent Thomas Moore, who has been looking into the incredible success of the drug on the private market, and also speaks to Sarah Le Brocq, who as well as advising the NHS on the cost-effectiveness of weight loss drugs, also uses Mounjaro herself. We can't all hop on a plane and head to Hawaii when the craving for authentic poke calls but you can make the drive to the Tower Grove East neighborhood of St. Louis City and find a pretty great alternative. That was the entire goal behind Buzz's Hawaiian. Thomas Moore, better known to everyone as Buzz, started with a food truck after retiring from a career in aviation. After moving back to St. Louis after years in Hawaii, he missed the food of the islands. He shares the story behind the business, which has expanded to a brick-and-mortar restaurant, including the can't miss items on the menu that will have you taking a vacation via your taste buds.
Of the interviews that I did with Thomas Moore, I think this one might be my favorite.

Original Air Date: April 7, 2021Your life is always speaking to you in whispers, guiding you to your next right step. In many situations, the whisper is also the first warning. It's a quiet nudge from deep within saying, Hmmm, something feels off.
