One of the most charismatic species of the rainforests of south-east Asia is the orangutan. The orangutan is the only wild species of Great Ape found in Asia, with the remaining three, gorillas, chimpanzees, and bonobos, found in Africa. Until 1996, the orangutan was considered one individual species. However, since then the species has been divided into three subspecies, which include the Borneon, Sumatran, and Tapanuli Orangutan. Historically, the orangutan's range spread across southeast Asia and south China. Now, the species is found in fragmented populations scattered across the Borneon and Sumatran rainforests. The species, unfortunately, is on the brink of extinction, with all three subspecies classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN Red List. Habitat loss, driven by the rampant expansion of palm oil plantations, is the primary threat to these ecological engineers. The bushmeat trade also looms large on the species. In this episode of The Think Wildlife Podcast, I interview Michelle Desilets, the Executive Director of the Orangutan Land Trust to discuss the future and conservation of the charismatic Great Ape. Today, I want to witness about Christmas. This year my sister Dee moved back to CT and bought a new house. She had a Christmas Eve party because my aunt used to have one each year, but she is now moving to FL. I went to Dee's house on Christmas Eve alone as my family wanted to chill out at home. Well, Sam & Noah were both working. It was great to see my parents, Dee, my sister Suzy & her husband John, two of her boys and her granddaughter, and then my sister Theresa and her husband Glenn. We ate dinner together and talked. Some played games. It was a really great time. Then, when I got home, Sam & Noah were in the kitchen talking, and then Ryan came down. The boys and I stayed in the kitchen talking for over 2 hours. This in itself is a Christmas miracle as they are teenagers, and so they don't love talking to their parents. We talked about all kinds of things, and it was so great. Of course, sometimes they were arguing, which I didn't love, but it was awesome to see them interacting with each other. I feel like 2024 is going to be a great year. I think they are starting to come out of their rooms a bit more. They are starting to talk a bit more and hang out with friends a bit more. I am really looking forward to this upcoming year. Noah is a senior and is planning to go far away for college in the fall, so I am hoping to get to spend some good family time with him before he leaves. On Christmas day we always go the Duggan's house. The Desilets, my family, always celebrate on a different day, so we are lucky, and we don't have to alternate. I like that we get to do the same thing each year. I love that we get to see his entire family. His brother and wife, their two girls, my mother and father-in-law, and Tony's aunt. Usually, when we go, our boys are on their computers, and their cousins are, too. Occasionally, we will play a game or two, but I would say the majority of years, we just hang out. It is nice to get a chance to catch up. They don't live far away, but we don't really see them too much. They have kids, we have kids, they work, we work. Life gets busy, and we don't schedule time to visit. It's funny because when we lived in NJ when the boys were younger, we saw them a lot more. We would come up for all the holidays, and so they would come up and visit as well. It has been dawning on me more and more lately that we saw family more when we lived further away than we do now. We are only one and a half hours from Tony's parent's house and an hour and 10 minutes from my family, and yet we don't see them that much. This is something I will change in the New Year as family is important. You never know when the last time you will see someone is.Regret is something that is difficult to live with. I try to live my life so that I don't have any regrets later. We can't ensure this, but we can do our best to live in a way that we will be proud of later. I don't want to wish I would have spent more time with people when they were alive. I want to actually spend more time with people when they are alive. This is something we can all work on. Do you have people you are unhappy with? Are you waiting for someone else to make the first step or the next move? Don't wait on others. If someone is hurting you, let them know. What have you got to lose? If they don't respond well, at least you gave it a try.We only have one life, and I, for one, do not want to have regrets. Make amends, say the thing you have been wanting to say, and forgive the person you are angry with; you might not get the chance later. I know you may be waiting for them to do the right thing, but what if they never do? Are you ok with things never being said? What if you just confronted them? What if you just said you wanted to get past this? What if you said the thing that hurt you?Ok, back to Christmas this year. I just want to thank God for it because it was really great. We had to wake our boys up because they are teens, and so they sleep late. I asked the night before, and they agreed to get up at 10. We didn't actually know what to get the boys this year for Christmas as they didn't give us too many ideas. We got them some practical gifts, and we weren't sure how that would go over. They all had a great time opening the gifts, and they all seemed not only happy but appreciative, which you don't always get with kids. Or at least we don't always get it. Then we asked if we could change plans and leave earlier than we agreed, and no one got upset. They were all ok with it.I had bought myself and the boys matching pajamas so we could do a family photo. They were all okay with it, and we wore the pajamas all day. When we got to the Duggan's house, I realized none of the boys had brought their computers. They were sitting around the table, talking and playing on their phones. I asked if they wanted to play a card game, and they all said yes. So Joanie, the boys, and I all played Monopoly Deal. Then, when Tony's brother and family arrived, we had dinner. It was great that even those who weren't eating were sitting at the table. Everyone seemed to be engaged in good conversations and having a good time. After dinner, the kids opened presents and were really happy with all they received. Tony's mom, Joanie, played piano, and then later Kaylee, his niece, also played piano. It was a great day. I hope you had an amazing Christmas too!
There are so many tasks on our to-do lists as women, wives, and moms that are repetitive—and hidden. You plan meals every week and wander the aisle of your grocery store, only to be back again the week after to do the exact same thing all over again. You fold a massive pile of laundry and as you're putting clean clothes in dressers, you find the laundry baskets are full again and ready for the next load. You make a meal, only to be faced with a pile of dirty dishes and a full dishwasher ready for unloading…again. It can be easy to get discouraged in the monotony of taking care of your home, your family, and yourself. So how do we find meaning in these daily tasks that we're going to do all over again tomorrow? In this episode, I'm sitting down with Thérèse Desilets. Thérèse is the founder of Lovely Lady Linens, a Marian inspired home textile company. Her and I are talking about how the Blessed Mother can encourage us in our daily chores, the importance of beauty in our domestic churches, and how Thérèse integrates her work and vocation. If you're exhausted from the constant to-do list of taking care of your home and are needing some encouragement and inspiration, sister, this letter is for you. Topics we talked about in this episode: Thérèse's story as a Catholic woman The origin story of Lovely Lady Linens and the beautiful work of handblocking How designing Marian-inspired linen collections has impacted Thérèse's relationship with the Blessed Mother Why domestic work is meaningful, even though so much of it goes unseen How Thérèse's business and work as an attorney is at the service of her family (not the other way around) The story behind Mariamante Academy, where Thérèse donates a portion of her business proceeds How Thérèse lives out the feminine genius in her current season as a mother of three kids under five Resources you should check out after listening to this episode: Browse the collections at Lovely Lady Linens Follow Lovely Lady Linens on Instagram Check out the sponsor for today's episode, Sacred Heart Tea, and use the code LETTERS to get 10% off your purchase at checkout Pick up a copy of the Letters to Women book (and use the code LETTERS at checkout to receive 15% off your purchase!) Are You The Hands & Feet of Jesus?Matthew 25:35-36 “Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.'I spoke at a retreat this weekend and the theme was Christ In Me. While writing my talk I realized that my parents are the best example I have seen of “Christ living within me.” They not only taught us about God and our faith, they lived it in a way in which you could see Christ just by looking at them. There are 11 children in my family and we all vary in our degrees of faith in God. Some believe, some don't. Yet, all of us would give the shirt off of our back to someone in need. We don't think twice about offering to help and we truly mean it. We do not feel it is an inconvenience, we don't resent it afterwards, we just know it is the right thing to do. If we have met you more than once, you are now officially part of our family. We have so many friends of the family that we just consider part of our family. All of this is because my parents led by example. They didn't lecture us on being kind and giving to others, well, I am sure we did get lectures, however, they followed those up with actions. Often times we can tell our children to do something, we can lecture and we can nag and yet if we aren't showing them with our actions then it doesn't matter what we are saying. You can tell your child that giving to those in need is important and they may or may not understand why. However, when you give to someone in need while they are with you and they see that person's face, that person's gratitude then they are more likely to be impacted. They are more likely to do the same. Our parents would give to anyone that needed something, even if they really couldn't afford it. My parents had 11 children so my mom stayed home with the kids and my dad worked. My dad had a great job and yet they still didn't have a lot of money because we had a big house and a lot of kids. My parents did not let that stop them from giving to the church, helping those in need and helping anyone that asked. I didn't understand when I was a child what a sacrifice that was for them. I saw how much my mom was writing the checks for in mass and I thought to myself, when I get older I am going to give a lot more than that. Now that I am older I see how hard it can be to give. We don't have 11 kids and we make more money than my dad did at the time, and yet we struggle to give at church at times. What just came to mind is Mark 12:41-44 “Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” This is what my parents were doing. They were giving all they had to give and some weeks that would be $5 or $10 dollars and some weeks it would be $20. We on the other hand are wanting to give out of our surplus. I remember a time when I was explaining to a friend how my parents gave money to the church even when they didn't really have money for their bills. My friend said this was just bad financial decisions. This is a worldly way to think of it and yet this is how many of us think of it. We feel we need to pay all or our bills first, pay for all the things we need, then all the things we want and then if there is any left over money, we can give that to God. When we think like this we are relying on ourselves to take care of our needs. God knows what you need and He will make sure you have it. We should be giving to God first and then everything else can come after that. This is not the worldly view though. It does not make sense to many people. Remember God's ways are not our ways and God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts. It doesn't have to make sense to us according to our worldly view, and my parents knew this. It felt as though they weren't afraid to go against the crowd if they were doing it for God. My dad wore a big crucifix around his neck for the longest time at work. He knew not everyone liked it but it wasn't for them, it was for him. My mom stayed home and didn't work even though not everyone agreed with this. She was very smart and could have done anything for a job and yet she sacrificed and stayed home with us because that is what she felt was best. Over the years we had many people living in our home because they had no where else to go. We once had a family with 10 kids living in our home with 11 kids. Another time we had someone who moved in with her husband and grand children. We have had numerous friends stay with us. If you didn't have a place to stay you were always welcome at the Desilets house. It wasn't always super convenient for us kids and yet it taught us so much without saying anything. We could see how grateful the people staying with us were. We could see how important it was to help people, even when it wasn't a perfect situation, even when it didn't fit into what you thought it would look like. Christ is calling us to be reflections of Him. He is calling us to help His people, His beloved brothers and sisters. God is asking us to see the face of Christ in all those we meet. If Jesus was asking for food, would you tell Him no? If Jesus asked if he could crash at your place for a bit while He got back on his feet, would you tell him no? This is exactly what we are doing when we are saying no to others. Jesus is in each one of us and if we want to help Jesus then we need to help those around us as well. When my parents go to heaven the will be able to confidently say when you were hungry I gave you food, when you were thirsty, I gave you a drink, when you were a stranger I welcomed you and when you were naked I clothed you, when you were ill I cared for you and when you were in prison I visited you, just as it talks about in the verse above. The awesome news is that they taught us kids to do the same, and not just their kids, but all who meet them. If you have the pleasure of knowing my parents I am sure you have experienced their kindness and their willingness to help out has rubbed off on you too. We all have the Spirit of Christ inside of us, let's share that with others.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those who are listening to this podcast right now. Lord, we thank you for filling us with your Spirit and we ask that you help us to use this strength to do all the things you talk about above. Help us be your face to those who don't know you. Help us to help all those in need. Help us to not turn away. Help us to give more expecting nothing in return. We love you Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. Thank you also for your prayers for this past weekend. The talk went really well and we all had a great time on the retreat. It was just what we all needed, time away with Jesus and with fellow ladies who are so faith filled. It was the perfect mix of liturgical celebrations, like daily mass, stations of the cross, illuminated rosary, and adoration w/confession and then we also had speakers and lots of time for fellowship. I look forward to meeting you here again tomorrow. Remember, Jesus loves you and so do I! Have a blessed day!

Joy, Trust, Forgiveness & LovePsalm 86:4-5 “Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you. You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.”Joy is one of my favorite words. It makes me smile just hearing it. The reason I like the word joy so much is because it reminds me of God. Only God can bring you joy in the middle of a difficult situation. Only the Holy Spirit can remind you of something that makes you smile or laugh, when all you feel like doing is crying. Have you ever been in a situation where you know you should be crying, but you are laughing? That is the Holy Spirit moving in you. I remember when my grandpa Desilets, my dad's dad, passed away we laughed a lot at his wake. It wasn't that we weren't sad, we were so sad. Yet, we kept remembering the good times that we spent with him. We remembered all the funny stories and we shared them with each other. The same thing happened at my friend Shannon's wake. This was even more sad in my eyes as my grandpa had lived a nice long life. He got to see his children grow up and have children and then see his grandchildren have children. However, my friend Shannon was 40 years old. She had daughter that was only 9 years old. All we wanted to do at that wake was cry. Her passing was so tragic. However, they Holy Spirit knew what we needed. He knew that we needed to remember the fun times we had with Shannon. We needed to remember how funny she was and all the times that she made us laugh. She was so full of life and she loved to make people laugh. She would have wanted us to be laughing and not crying because that is who she was. I also like how this verse is pairing joy with trust in God. I have found the more we trust God, the more joy we find in our lives. This makes a lot of sense. It is difficult to have joy when you are worried all the time. However, the more you are able to let that worry go by handing it over to God and trusting He will take care of it, the more room you will have for joy. I found so much joy in my life once I learned to trust that God was in control. Once I realized I could have joy even when I wasn't happy. I have a friend that is going through a really difficult time right now. She is going through something that no parent should have to go through. Yet many do. She is devastated by the situation and yet she is still finding joy in her days. She is trusting that God will take care of the situation and He will do a much better job than she can because He knows all the little pieces that she doesn't know. He can see both sides. He can see right into the heart of her son and He knows what her son is thinking and feeling. It is not easy for her, or any of us, to let go of the control we think we have over our difficult situation. However, the control we think we have is just an illusion anyway. God is in control, whether we want to admit it or not. We can waste our time and energy fighting Him and trying to keep hold of that control, or we can let go and let Him take care of it. Once we finally let go, which usually isn't until we have done all we can do and have no other choice but to surrender it to God, then we feel so much better. If you have ever been able to turn something over to God, something that was really weighing on your mind and soul, you feel lighter afterwards. You can actually feel this weight being lifted off of your shoulders. It is amazing. Then we always ask ourselves why we didn't hand it over sooner. Why can't we remember this feeling for the next time this happens? Why can't we hand things over to God sooner? Why do we always have to do it the hard way? If we can learn to trust God with our struggles, trust that He will help us through them, we would have so much more joy in our lives. The next line in the verse says, “ You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.” This is something we can't hear enough because it is so hard for us to believe. The Lord is forgiving. Do you believe this, really believe this? And when I say do you believe this, I don't mean do you believe that God forgives everyone else, but He doesn't forgive you. I mean do you believe that God forgives you. Do you believe that there is nothing beyond the scope of God's forgiveness? Sometimes we feel like we are not worthy of God's forgiveness because we have done too many bad things. My first thought is, we are right, we are not worthy, no one is. However, God doesn't give His forgiveness to those that are worthy. He gives His forgiveness to anyone that asks for it. There is no preferential treatment when it comes to God's forgiveness. There are only two requirements. First, we must repent for out sins. Repent means you feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin. Basically you have to be sorry for your sins. Second, we must ask for forgiveness. God wants to forgive us, He is just waiting for us to repent and turn back to Him. Ask the Lord and He will forgive you. The next step is the hard one. After He forgives you, you need to accept that forgiveness and forgive yourself. If the Lord God almighty can forgive us, why can't we forgive ourselves. Why do we hold onto the guilt? It is like we are torturing ourselves. If we hold onto the guilt even after God has forgiven us then it is like we are saying to God, that we don't accept His forgiveness. Do we think we know better than Him? Our sins are not greater than His forgiveness. When we realize that, we will have more joy in our lives as well. Living with guilt and feeling like you can't be forgiven makes living hard. It is hard to be happy and joyful when we are filled with guilt and regret. Let it go. I know its not always easy to let God's forgiveness into your lies. However, if you do, you won't be sorry. If you are struggling to forgive yourself for something, ask God for help. He loves to help us, and He is just waiting for us to ask. The verse ends with the words, “abounding in love to all who call to you.” The Lord is abounding with love. Isn't that a great picture of the Lord? The word abounding doesn't really leave much room for lack. Sometimes we might not feel loved by the Lord and we might think that He doesn't have enough love for us. This is not true. The Lord loves you just as much as He loves everyone else. When I picture the word abounding, I think of the word overflowing. This is how I picture the Lord's love for us. It is overflowing. Not only is there enough love for each and everyone one of us, but His love for us is overflowing. In the mornings I fill my dog's water dish up at the sink. Sometimes I turn the water on for the dish while I do something else. Occasionally I will forget and when I remember the dish is overflowing with water. This is how I picture the Lord's love. It more than enough to fill each one of us up and then some. If you are not feeling this love, all you need to do is call on Him. Call on His forgiveness, call on His love. Call on Him and He will give you all you need.Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord we love you so much and we are so grateful for all that you do for us. We don't always understand why you forgive us but we are grateful that you do. Help us to accept this forgiveness and to forgive ourselves. Lord, we thank you for all the joy you bring into our lives. We thank you for the times you remind us to laugh when all we want to do is cry. Lord, we have more joy when we put our trust in your, please help us to do that. Help us to turn our worries over to you and not take them back again. You are so great Lord. We call on you to love us Lord. Help us to feel that love, fill us up with that love. You are so amazing and we are so grateful that you love abounds for those who call on you. Help us to call on you Lord. We ask all of this in accordance with you will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen.Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to spending time with you on Monday. Have a blessed weekend.

"Not long after midnight on Saturday, November 25th, 1978 Marc Patenaude and his friend, Norman Desilets beat up a man in a restaurant in Montreal's East-End. Unknown to Patenaude and Desilets was that the man they left on the floor of Chez Larry was Detective-Sargent Normand Ostiguy of the Montreal police's anti-gang squad. Arrest warrants were drawn-up. Desilets was brought in without incident. The arrest of Marc Patenaude went horribly wrong (or did it?). When police stormed his basement apartment, the first officer to breach the front door saw Patenaude pointing a gun in his direction. Shots were fired. In the confused melee that followed Marc Patenaude bled to death from a severed artery in his thigh, finally succumbing to his wounds in an ambulance, which took 90 minutes to get to his home in Pointe aux Trembles. That is one version of this story. " This week's podcast provides an extensive discussion of the role of the coroner in Quebec police investigations in the 1970s through 1986, including Roch Heroux, the coroner in the Patenaude inquiry. Best of Triple F! - Original Upload Date: July 25, 2017 Sexual Sovereignty. It should be a basic human right but unfortunately, throughout time and even today, it isn't always considered one. You have the right to control your body, your sexuality, your boundaries and to have those boundaries respected. Dr. Saida Desilets, Karyn and Jean had a provocative and real discussion about sexual sovereignty and even the "Me Too" movement. This is one show that should not be missed! Desire: Women Claim Sexual Sovereignty After Sexual TraumaIn a society that benefits from your self-doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act. Hamash AlidinaDr. Saida Désilets - A thought-leader and speaker on the growing edge of researching ways women can use their minds, bodies, and spirits to create richer lives through their sensual selves - even after sexual trauma. Saida serves as a guide to women who believe in transformation as a lifelong path of learning, discovery and walk to freedom. But it was a violent rape, sexual trauma, that nearly cost Dr. Désilets the life that put her on this Path. She's Strong On Straight TalkSelf-described as a “street-savvy, equipped with feisty farm-girl strength and the grace of a dancer,” she was by no means naïve. In fact, this French Canadian native was raised on a First Nation's reservation in Manitoba where sexual abuse of children, teens, and young women was common. Yet, despite seeing that openly, she never expected to be so violently attacked by a man she was actually dating. The shocking violation left her in such excruciating physical and emotional pain and damage that, upon waking up after emergency surgery, she was told she had only two weeks to live. But live she did! “I chose to defy the surgeon's diagnosis, and instead, chose to live. Life after the rape, after near-death, takes on a different quality,“ she says.” Either you become a shut-down, just-getting-by version of yourself or you suddenly feel like you've been given a new ticket on life. I felt the latter. My journey started in defiance. I defied death. I defied the badge of a victim. And I claimed myself in ways I never knew possible.” Tune in - she spares no punches. The shocking violation left her in such excruciating physical and emotional pain and damage that, upon waking up after emergency surgery, she was told she had only two weeks to live. Consider this - you don't have to experience rape, sexual trauma, or specific disrespect to learn from Dr. Désilets. This very interesting interview addresses the evolution of women thinking about their own strengths and more private issues with sexuality - their own sexual reawakening. You'd be surprised how a simple discussion about sexuality can lead to major breakthroughs with your clients. To discuss this concept, we invited Saida Désilets to the show. Saida is an international advocate for conscious, integrated sexuality through the understanding of our Erotic Genius. She is the author of the Emergence of the Sensual Woman: Awakening Our Erotic Innocence, and serves as a guide to women who believe in transformation as a lifelong path of learning, discovery, and walk to freedom. She was a co-contributor to the best-selling books of Dr. Christiane Northrup and Dr. Rachel Abrams. Saida supports women to deeply understand their sensual and sexual nature and encourages them to self-define what sexuality is for themselves.

Nita Belles is featured on USA Today, CNN and FOX. Kathryn also interviews author Saida Desilets PhD. Harvey Weinstein and Louis CK did not respect it. And women who are now coming forward about their sexual abuse at the hands of these men are only now claiming it. It's their sexual sovereignty - the right to control their own sexual and physical fate - not subject to the demands, control or perversion of others. Dr. Desilets, a victim of a violent rape that nearly cost her life, put her on the path of researching ways women could use their minds, bodies and spirits to create richer lives through their sensual selves.
