The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was released in 2003 and tonight, The Doctor Who Show team ends its trilogy of Alternate Galaxies episodes begun two months ago with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and continued last month with The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. We again examine the film in question from two different angles, with Dave not having seen the production before. What are our thoughts on this film, its writing, its production, and its ensemble cast including Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, John Rhys-Davies, Bernard Hill, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Miranda Otto, David Wenham, Karl Urban, and Andy Serkis, here in 2024? If you've got an hour to spare, sit back, relax, and join us in an ALTERNATE GALAXIES episode that travels to Middle Earth for the final time - unless we do the Hobbit, but does anyone really want that? Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith was released in 2005 and tonight, The Doctor Who Show team examines it in what must rate as one of the coldest of cold takes ever committed to a digital recording. Doctor Who fans are decrying the "Disney-fication" of Doctor Who, as Disney is helping to bankroll; the long-running BBC. But with less than stellar ratings and audience score, how long will Disney be willing to bankroll this EXPENSIVE sci-fi series... especially since they even own it? Additional Context: The involvement of Disney in the production of "Doctor Who" has brought some changes, particularly in the introduction of Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. Disney's influence was evident in the show's recent Christmas special, "The Church on Ruby Road," where they suggested including a scene to introduce Gatwa's Doctor earlier in the episode. This intervention by Disney ensured that Gatwa's character was featured as soon as possible, a move that was well-received and aligned with showrunner Russell T. Davies' vision for the series. Regarding the speculation about the future of "Doctor Who" and Ncuti Gatwa's tenure as the Doctor, there isn't specific information available about the show's end after 2025 or the duration of Disney's financial involvement. However, Disney's participation, especially in the international distribution of the show, marks a significant shift in the series' production and presentation. This change is part of a broader trend where major streaming platforms are playing increasingly influential roles in the production and distribution of popular television series. The collaboration between Disney and "Doctor Who" is a noteworthy development, considering the show's long-standing cultural significance and Disney's global media influence. As with any major change, this partnership is likely to bring new dynamics to the series, potentially impacting its creative direction and international reach. When is a TARDIS not a TARDIS? When it's a bitey mad lady, of course. Yes, The Doctor's Wife shows a side of the show's signature blue box that we've never seen before, personifying the Doctor's “ship” in a way that's unexpected, insanely quirky and… well, sexy. That's thanks in large part to Suranne Jones' pitch-perfect performance as Idris, a woman possessed with the essence of the TARDIS, the Doctor's longest-running companion. Neil Gamian's clever script wisely gives her a lot of time opposite Matt Smith — at his madcap best — and fans will delight in seeing the Doctor and his time machine finally say the things they've always wanted to say to each other. But does that make the story a classic or just a really satisfying interlude? Dave Kitchen from The Doctor Who Show joins Pete and Chris on this journey outside of our universe to answer that very question. Commentary for The Doctor's Wife begins at 25:06. On July 29, the BBC announced that Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker would be leaving Doctor Who after a six-part series later in 2021 and three specials in 2022, ending around November with the centenary celebrations of the BBC. In the spirit of our '21 Replacements For 12' episode on February 1, 2017 (where we came up with 21 potential new Doctors to replace Peter Capaldi), here we discuss 14 picks (seven each), to replace Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor. We also discuss Joe Michael Straczynski (aka 'JMS') throwing his hat into the ring to be the new showrunner of Doctor Who. Naturally, we approve. Who would YOU cast as the 14th Doctor? There is much banter and merriment when Eric Grissom joins Creator Talks! Eric is a comic book author and co-host of The Old Doctor Who Show podcast. Eric has a new middle grade graphic novel titled Goblin coming soon through Dark Horse Comics. The art is by Will Perkins who also collaborated on Eric's Gregory Suicide. Goblin will be available through comic shops May 26 and June 8th wherever fine books are sold. How did Valiant editor and former guest Heather Antos help Eric with his story pitch? And when did The Wonder Twins Paige and Claire Connelly, also former guests of this show, work with Eric? Eric relates the story of finding the person whose work inspired his fantasy writing and why that discovery meant so much to him. He has also developed companion game for the book The Realm of Goblin: Beware the Dark Sisterhood. This is Eric first time ever attempting to create a game. How did he make sure the game would meet the high standard of frequent gamers? Eric resides in Red Bank, New Jersey, which coincidently is also the location of The Secret Stash seen in AMCs The Comic Book Men. Eric shares his thoughts about the cast and ye old host describes his appearance on the show (-eh hem Home Town Heroes, Season 5 Episode 13 now available through Amazon Prime :) I discuss with Eric his podcast The Old Doctor Who Show and we share our thoughts on our favorite classic Doctor Who episodes. To wrap up our interview I ask Eric the Final 9 Questions I ask my guests, including when Eric took a risk. Warning: this is hilarious! Terence Joseph Nation (8 August 1930 – 9 March 1997) was a Welsh television writer and novelist who listeners to our podcast will know as the creator of the Daleks. As well as his work on Doctor Who for the First, Third and Fourth Doctors, Nation also created cult TV classics Survivors and Blake's 7, in addition to writing for The Avengers, The Baron, The Champions, Department S, The Persuaders! and The Saint. Despite this astounding pedigree versus many of his peers, it's fair to say that Nation isn't widely regarded as one of the great classic Doctor Who writers. Rob and Dave take a deep dive into Nation's career and fan perceptions of him to both re-evaluate the man and also pay tribute to his time on Doctor Who. What are your favourite Terry Nation penned stories or series? Hope you enjoy the episode! Contact us anytime, hello@theDWshow.net

The film's ensemble cast includes Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong'o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams. After the new trilogy was announced following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, it was originally reported that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson would write the script for Episode IX. In August 2015, Colin Trevorrow was hired to direct the film while constant-collaborator Derek Connolly would co-write a new script (both would eventually receive story credit with Abrams and Chris Terrio). In September 2017, Trevorrow left the project following creative differences with producer Kathleen Kennedy, and a few days later, it was announced that Abrams had been hired to return. Principal photography began in August 2018 at Pinewood Studios in England, and wrapped in February 2019; post-production was completed on November 24, 2019. The Rise of Skywalker had its world premiere in Los Angeles on December 16, 2019, and was theatrically released in the United States on December 20, 2019. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising its celebration of the entire saga and others considering it unimaginative and not bold enough.
For this Dave-lite month (while he travels the world yet again), we ironically have a bumper podcast featuring The Podcast of Decision 2 - a pre-recorded segment with Dave, his podcasting partner on Spacefall: A Blakes 7 podcast and the Goodies Pirate Podcast, Richard, and the guys from the 42 to Doomsday podcast, Rob and Mark. If you're unfamiliar with The Podcast of Decision, in November 2018, Rob and Dave from The Doctor Who Show sat down in a hotel room with Todd and Nathan from Flight Through Entirety (and Jodie into Terror), to record a breezy wander through all of Doctor Who via some games Dave devised. Dave called this recording... you guessed it... The Podcast of Decision. The Podcast of Decision 2 on this episode is top and tailed with news, views, and quite a lot of chuckling from your regular host Rob (not to be confused with 42 to Doomsday's Rob), along with Richard - pulling a double shift this month and making his debut on the show as as a co-host. Confused? It will all make sense when you press play. We hope. David Kitchen will return to his co-host mic in The Doctor Who Show S04 E09. Hope you enjoy the episode! The twenty-second season of Doctor Who began on 5 January 1985 with the serial Attack of the Cybermen, and ended with Revelation of the Daleks. To classic era Doctor Who fans it's, "the season that got the series cancelled". But is there more to it than that? In this episode, Rob and Dave return with some news, short topics, and a feature on Season 22. Every episode is discussed, alongside what was happening (or not happening) in the production office. Did you like Season 22 at the time? If you didn't, have you warmed to it, over the years? Or were you too young to see it at the time and have come to it with fresher eyes - and more modern TV sensibilities - in more recent times? Does it work, or not work, for you? Did the series deserve to be axed after this season? Hope you enjoy the episode! Contact us anytime, hello@theDWshow.net

NEW TO WHO AND THE TENTH PLANETDave Kitchen from The Doctor Who Show blinked again. Lights were moving towards him through the murk of the blizzard. Even as he looked, the lights changed into figures clad in silver-armoured suits, advancing across the ice with a slow deliberate step. Horror-struck, Dave reached for his microphone. BUT THEY CONTINUED MARCHING...Dan and Steven have arrived in Sydney. The discussion of a story of firsts by this invincible, fearless podcast has begun-and the last thrilling adventure of the first DOCTOR WHO.New to Who begins a trilogy of regeneration stories with this, the final story of the first Doctor - the original, you might say - the late, great William Hartnell.
