The Perils of the Northwest Coast. Guest Author: Hampton Sides. Cook mapped the coastline from Oregon to Alaska, enduring foul weather and perpetual fog. While the Spanish sought to arrest him for encroaching on their territory, Benjamin Franklin ordered American captains to protect Cook's scientific mission. The expedition spent a month repairing ships at Nootka Sound, interacting peacefully with the Mowachaht people. Cook meticulously charted the Alaskan coast, even navigating by the sound of walruses in low visibility. However, upon reaching the Bering Sea, he encountered the "ice blink" and an impenetrable wall of ice, proving the "open sea" theory wrong. Threatened by the encroaching pack ice, Cook was forced to retreat, abandoning the search for the season. 71810 DEATH OF COOK

Perpetual pain is a two-time taker, taking from both the body and the mind. Physically, pain takes away the freedom of living life without making mini-choices regarding daily activities, knowing there will be a price to pay either way. Mentally, it takes the joy of good times and makes bad times worse. Before there were relationships, there was adaptation. Before there were marriages, there was adaptation. Before there were families, civilizations, languages, philosophies, religions, identities, cultures, nations, and histories, there was adaptation. Existence itself rests upon a single uncompromising principle: Everything that lives must continuously adjust to what is. Nothing receives exemption. Stars adapt to gravitational forces. Forests adapt to seasons. Species adapt to environments. Consciousness adapts to experience. Life itself survives through perpetual negotiation with reality. Only the human ego attempts a different strategy. It attempts permanence. It attempts certainty. It attempts preservation. It attempts to freeze living things into familiar forms and then calls that stability. This may explain one of the greatest tragedies in intimate relationships. Many people do not fall in love with a person. They fall in love with a version. A snapshot. A moment. A psychological photograph taken during a particular season of someone's evolution. Years later they discover the photograph has changed. The ambitions changed. The fears changed. The values changed. The body changed. The dreams changed. The identity changed. And suddenly what should have been expected feels like betrayal. Not because transformation occurred. Because transformation was never included in the original agreement. The relationship begins suffering from a silent disease. Not incompatibility. Not conflict. Not communication problems. The disease is the expectation that life should stop moving. Yet life never agreed to such a contract. Every intimate relationship eventually becomes a confrontation with the most fundamental law of existence: Nothing living remains the same. The deepest form of love may therefore have very little to do with possession, agreement, compatibility, romance, chemistry, or even commitment. It may involve something far more difficult. Participation. The willingness to remain present while another human being becomes. Not who you expected. Not who you prefer. Not who you originally chose. But who life is continuously revealing. This is where rigidity enters the story. Most people misunderstand rigidity. Rigidity is not strength. Rigidity is fear attempting to negotiate with impermanence. A boundary protects what is essential. Rigidity protects what is familiar. A boundary serves growth. Rigidity resists growth. A boundary preserves integrity. Rigidity preserves certainty. One creates intimacy. The other slowly suffocates it. The irony feels almost unbearable. Many people spend years defending what they call standards, principles, values, self-respect, masculinity, femininity, tradition, or boundaries. Underneath the language often sits something much older. Fear. The fear that adaptation will require grief. Because adaptation always demands the death of something. A belief. An expectation. A certainty. An identity. A story. A version of ourselves. A version of our partner. Love therefore asks for a sacrifice few people anticipate. Not the sacrifice of self. The sacrifice of illusion. The illusion that the person beside you can remain unchanged while everything else in existence continues evolving. This becomes even more complicated when childhood wounds enter the relationship. An abandoned child becomes an adult demanding certainty. A neglected child becomes an adult demanding emotional guarantees. A rejected child becomes an adult demanding constant validation. The wound incurs the debt. The partner receives the invoice. What began as pain becomes expectation. Expectation becomes entitlement. Entitlement becomes rigidity. Rigidity becomes relational gravity. The relationship slowly bends around old injuries rather than present reality. Two people stop meeting each other. They begin negotiating with ghosts. One partner speaks from today. The other responds from twenty years ago. One partner changes. The other interprets the change as abandonment. One partner evolves. The other experiences evolution as betrayal. Neither understands the actual conflict. The argument appears relational. The conflict is ontological. Reality keeps moving. Someone is trying to stop it. Daoist philosophy recognized this thousands of years ago. Water never argues with the riverbed. Water never demands permanence. Water never mistakes form for essence. It changes continuously while remaining completely itself. Rain. Mist. Ice. River. Ocean. Different expressions. Same nature. Healthy love functions the same way. Its essence remains while its expression evolves. The couples who survive decades together may not possess superior communication skills. They may not possess superior compatibility. They may simply understand a truth that many never discover: Love is not measured by how tightly you hold on. Love is measured by how truthfully you participate in another person's becoming. Can you update your understanding as quickly as life updates the person you love? Can you release outdated versions of them before resentment builds a shrine around them? Can you remain curious where others become certain? Can you remain present where others become controlling? Can you bless evolution where others call it betrayal? Because eventually every intimate relationship arrives at the same doorway. On one side stands certainty. On the other stands life. You cannot hold both. The person who chooses certainty eventually loses intimacy. The person who chooses life discovers that adaptation was never the enemy. Adaptation was love's highest form of intelligence. And perhaps its most sacred expression.

As much as we might wish differently, we all know that our dogs, no matter how much we love them, can't live forever. But that doesn't mean we can't help them live as long as possible. When it comes to helping your dog live the longest, healthiest life they can, preventative care is a huge part of the equation- but one that's often overlooked in the world of mainstream veterinary medicine. Now, one company is out to change that. Perpetual offers a simple, innovative way to monitor your dog's health- one that relies on regular, thorough testing to determine where your pup is healthy and where they need some help, so that you can detect problems early, or even prevent them in the first place. The founder of Perpetual, health coach John Crissy, joined the podcast today to talk about his company, the issues currently facing veterinary medicine, and how he hopes Perpetual can change that. Crowhill and Pigweed drink and review a Sweet Baby Jesus chocolate peanut butter porter and discuss a question that's challenged churches and society for centuries. Should religion and politics mix?Using a collection of social issue position papers published by the United Methodist Church as a starting point, the conversation explores the history of Methodism, from John Wesley's "heart strangely warmed" experience and the Holy Club at Oxford to the circuit riders who helped spread the movement across the American frontier. Along the way, they examine how Methodism became deeply associated with social reform, including efforts against slavery, drunkenness, and other social ills. The discussion then turns to modern political issues, including immigration, worker justice, climate change, the death penalty, abortion, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Crowhill and Pigweed consider how churches apply biblical principles to contemporary policy debates, where the line between moral teaching and political advocacy should be drawn, and whether clergy are always equipped to speak authoritatively on complex public issues.A recurring theme is the idea that movements formed in crisis often institutionalize a crisis mentality. If a religious movement was born by confronting genuine social problems, does it eventually develop a habit of searching for the next great cause? And does that tendency sometimes lead churches to exaggerate modern problems by comparing them to historic struggles such as slavery, Jim Crow, or the civil rights movement? It's a wide-ranging conversation about faith, public life, church authority, social reform, and the challenges of living out religious convictions in a deeply political age. Plus, as always, there's a beer review to get things started.
Theologian and historian Dr. Martin Erdmann explores the concept of Orwellian perpetual war in the modern era. Drawing on the works of George Orwell and historian Harry Elmer Barnes, Erdmann argues that contemporary conflicts like the war in Ukraine are often “phony wars” designed for domestic control rather than military victory. The discussion suggests that global elites use these manufactured tensions to consolidate power, build up technocratic defense industries, and forestall economic collapses through national debt. Erdmann interprets the rise of multipolarity and regional blocs—such as the European Union and Eurasian Union—as strategic steps toward a unified world federation. Ultimately, the conversation frames these geopolitical shifts within a biblical worldview, asserting that the global movement toward a single world government and currency aligns with prophetic history. Dan Nathan hosts David Schamis (CEO, Hyperliquid Strategies) and Jeroen Nieuwkoop (COO, Hyperliquid Strategies) to explain Hyperliquid, a three-and-a-half-year-old L1 blockchain built for high-throughput exchange activity and best known for perpetual futures trading. They discuss how Hyperliquid aims to be an “AWS of on-chain trading,” enabling permissionless exchanges like Trade XYZ to list perps on assets such as major U.S. equities, gold, silver, and oil, and why decentralized custody, speed, and UI/UX differentiate it from prior DEXs. They outline HYPE tokenomics, including using ~99% of protocol fees for token buybacks and burns, and define perp pricing via funding rates. The conversation covers U.S. regulatory constraints, Hyperliquid Strategies' Nasdaq-listed DAT (PURR) formed via reverse merger to provide U.S. access to HYPE exposure, and emerging use cases like pre-IPO perps (e.g., SpaceX) for 24/7 price discovery. —FOLLOW USYouTube: @RiskReversalMediaInstagram: @riskreversalmediaTwitter: @RiskReversalLinkedIn: RiskReversal Media

Jason advocates for direct real estate investment as the most effective vehicle for building long-term wealth. He describes income property as a perpetual money machine due to its unique ability to fund additional acquisitions through its own earnings. While acknowledging the common frustrations associated with property management, he argues that even a mediocre manager is less damaging to a portfolio than the hidden fees found in Wall Street investments. He strongly encourages listeners to take control of their assets through self-management or by using specific software tools to analyze property math. Ultimately, he asserts that real estate remains the most tax-advantaged and historically proven asset class available to the public. As we near the end of our journey through Exodus, we arrive at a heartbreaking chapter: the Golden Calf. In Exodus 32, we see the Israelites—freshly rescued from 400 years of slavery—abandoning their vows to God. They break the covenant mere days after making it. But before we judge them too harshly, we must recognize that we, too, are prone to wander. As John Calvin noted, the human heart is a "perpetual factory of idols." This sermon explores why we create idols, what they cost us, and how we can find freedom through the Greater Moses, Jesus Christ.Key Points1. The Context of the Crime The sin of the Golden Calf wasn't just about breaking a rule; it was spiritual adultery. The Israelites had just entered into a marriage covenant with Yahweh (Exodus 20), promising to have no other gods. Yet, while on their "honeymoon," they turn to an Egyptian idol. Taking something created and placing it in the position of the Creator always leads to destruction.2. Why Do We Make Idols? We want something NOW: Moses was delayed on the mountain, and the people grew impatient. Delay either deepens our faith or detours it. Often, when we feel God isn't moving fast enough, we turn to idols for immediate relief. We want something we can HOLD: Yahweh is invisible; the gods of Egypt were tangible. We crave physical things to put our trust in.We want a Genie, not a God: An idol like a golden calf cannot speak, correct, or demand holiness. The Israelites wanted a god they could control so they could indulge in whatever behavior they pleased without conviction.3. The Cost of Idolatry Idols demand sacrifice. They over-promise and under-deliver. While following Jesus requires sacrifice, He promises life and rest. Idols only demand more of you. Furthermore, you become like what you behold. Just as the golden calf was rigid and stiff-necked, God calls the Israelites stiff-necked. Whatever you worship will shape your character.4. The Greater Moses When God threatens to destroy the Israelites, Moses steps in as a mediator. He even asks God to blot his name out of the book to save the people. God says no to Moses, but centuries later, He says yes to Jesus. Jesus is the Greater Moses who took our sins upon Himself, granting us positional holiness before God so we can pursue progressive holiness in our lives.ConclusionEvery person is wired for worship; the question is not if you will worship, but what. Idols are sneaky, often masquerading as good things (family, politics, comfort) that we have made ultimate things. When we bring our idols into the presence of God, they will eventually shatter. God is a gracious Father who welcomes us back every time we choose to cast our idols down.Calls to ActionRecognize Your Idols: Look closely at what you crave (comfort, control, power, approval) and identify what has taken the center seat in your life.Repent and Confess: Do not justify or minimize your idolatry. Call it sin, confess it aloud, and ask Jesus to cover it.Renounce and Replace: You cannot just remove an idol; you must replace it with the true God. Bow your knee and consciously return the throne of your life to Jesus. Support the show*Summaries and transcripts are generated using AI. Please notify us if you find any errors.

“How do we know Mary is a perpetual virgin?” This question leads to a discussion on the implications of Luke 1:34 and the differing views between Catholics and Protestants. Other topics include whether Jesus fulfilled all Mosaic sacrificial offerings and the nature of baptism, specifically if it refers to the baptism of the Holy Spirit rather than water. Join the Catholic Answers Live Club Newsletter Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! But some Protestants counter that Mary asked this because she wasn't yet married to Joseph. How do we respond? 13:29 – Regarding Jesus’ sacrifice, did he fulfill all Mosaic sacrificial offerings? Or just specific offerings? 21:19 – Is baptism actually the baptism of the holy spirit, not that of water, and is the evidence speaking in tongues? 29:49 – Were Mary and Joseph actually married but just hadn't consummated it? 41:35 – Mark 9:38-41 is the best argument for Protestantism. 51:15 – What is the connection between the coronation and the bodily assumption?

Bitcoin had a nice April, will it continue The cryptocurrency gained 12.7% last month, marking its best performance since April 2025. Interestingly, according to CryptoQuant, the 30-day change in outright Bitcoin purchases remained negative throughout April. That suggests the rally wasn't driven by strong spot demand. Instead, much of the momentum came from something called perpetual futures. Until recently, I wasn't very familiar with this product, but at its core, it's another tool that increases risk. Unlike traditional options, these derivative contracts have no expiration date and are designed to let traders speculate on the price movements of an underlying asset. Perpetual futures have grown rapidly in popularity within the crypto space, largely because they allow for significantly higher leverage—sometimes as much as 100x. That kind of leverage can amplify gains, but it also increases the risk of sharp reversals. Historically, when there's a divergence between the spot market and the futures market like this, price gains tend not to last once leveraged positions begin to unwind. Where crypto goes from here is anyone's guess, but piling more leverage onto an already risky asset doesn't seem like a good idea to me. When Will We See Gas Prices Come Back Down? No one can predict exactly when gas prices will decline, but many are aware the current prices are being driven higher by the situation with Iran. At this point, the bombing appears to have ended, but much of the country remains heavily damaged. Estimates suggest it could cost Iran nearly $300 billion to rebuild what has been destroyed. The situation has shifted to one in which Iran is slowly being weakened economically because little to no oil is being exported from the country, resulting in a major loss of revenue. Reports estimate these losses at roughly $200 million per day — approximately $6 billion per month or $12 billion over two months. Inflation in Iran is currently estimated to be above 60% and continues to rise as economic conditions worsen. Based on these developments, I still believe we could begin to see oil prices decline sometime around the end of June. If that happens, prices may fall at a fairly rapid pace, and by the end of July consumers could see more normal prices at the gas pump. Lower energy costs would likely help improve overall economic conditions, potentially putting the economy back on track and supporting GDP growth by the end of the year. The April jobs report just threw cold water on the “imminent Fed cuts” narrative. The U.S. economy added 115,000 jobs in April, well above expectations of 55,000, while unemployment held steady at 4.3%. Given little growth in the labor force, only modest job creation is needed to keep the rate steady. Wage growth also remained relatively firm at 3.6% on an annual basis. In short: the labor market is slowing from the breakneck pace of the post-COVID boom, but it is not breaking. That matters because the Federal Reserve has a dual mandate: keep inflation under control & maintain maximum employment. Right now, the jobs side of the equation is giving the Fed room to stay patient. A few months ago, markets were pricing in aggressive rate cuts based on fears that the labor market was deteriorating. This report makes that much harder to justify. Hiring remains positive & layoffs are still relatively contained. Sectors that were strong in the month were healthcare, up 37k jobs; transportation & warehousing, up 30k jobs; and retail trade was up 22k jobs. Areas of weakness were information, down 13k jobs; and federal government, down another 9k jobs. The bigger issue for the Fed now is inflation. Energy prices remain elevated, tariffs are feeding through supply chains, and policymakers are increasingly worried that inflation could stay sticky longer than expected. Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee acknowledged on Friday that inflation has been “going the wrong way lately.” As long as the labor market remains stable, it appears the Fed has little urgency to cut rates. The key takeaway: This wasn't a “Goldilocks” report for dovish investors hoping for rapid cuts. It was a reminder that the economy is still strong enough for the Fed to prioritize inflation over stimulus. And until unemployment starts rising meaningfully or inflation decelerates, the Fed may have a hard time justifying rate cuts. Financial Planning: When Permanent Life Insurance isn't Permanent Cash value life insurance policies should be reviewed regularly because the long-term performance of the policy often changes significantly over time. In many policies, the internal cost of insurance increases every year as the insured ages because the probability of death rises with age. In addition, policies also have other internal expenses such as administrative fees, rider costs, premium loads, and investment management expenses. While policies are commonly illustrated using attractive hypothetical growth rates, those returns can be misleading because they are shown before many of these internal deductions are applied. As the insured gets older and the insurance costs rise, the total internal charges can eventually exceed the policy's earnings, causing the net growth rate of the cash value to become very low or even negative. When this happens, the policy may begin consuming its own cash value to stay in force. If the cash value becomes depleted, the policy can lapse unless substantially higher premiums are paid later in life. Reviewing these policies proactively is important so there is time to determine whether additional funding is needed, whether benefits should be adjusted, or whether surrendering the policy and accessing any remaining cash value may be the better option before the policy becomes unsustainable. John talks about Speaker Mike Johnson's nonsensical handling of the Homeland Security shutdown and the subsequent funding bill showcasing the disconnect between political rhetoric and action. He also discusses a recent White House report that claims Christians are the most persecuted group in America today. John argues that the true victims in this political landscape are often those who are marginalized and overlooked. Then, he interviews Lexi Doherty, a rising star in Georgia politics running for Congress in the 10th district. Lexy became a poll worker to give back and invest in her community. She learned firsthand in 2020 how important elections are to ensure unfair factors like the bureaucratic elites don't override the will of the people.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The final moments of Vivian Silver’s life were a “pivotal turning point” for her son Yonatan Zeigen, who now dedicates his life to Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation, following in the footsteps of his peace activist mother, who was slain in her home in Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7. Speaking on the eve of Israel’s Remembrance Day for fallen soldiers and terror victims, Zeigen recalled his final goodbyes with his mother with the gunshots of Hamas terrorists at her doorstep in the background, and the loss that he described as jolting him out of what he calls a “political coma” and moved him into full-time activism. Zeigen is a board member of The Parents Circle-Families Forum that co-sponsors the annual alternative joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony. He attended the ceremony in his youth together with his mother and immediately after her death, he knew that this would be the appropriate place to mourn her and continue her mission. He said on the podcast that the alternative ceremony represented “how two peoples share a land: They don't share a land by creating artificial divisions and dehumanizing each other. They do it by looking each other in the eye by celebrating together and also crying together, mourning together.” Zeigen said he was not comfortable being part of the government-sponsored ceremonies memorializing terror victims like his mother. “Bereavement is framed in a political manner in Israel. It is utilized to boost morale by diving into our narrative of victimhood and rallying around and making heroes of those who die in the conflict. It’s not the way that I feel comfortable commemorating my mother.” Read more: 'Swimming Against the Tide, but Swimming': More Israelis and Palestinians Now Choose to Grieve Together Op-ed by Yonatan Zeigen: Most Israelis Are Willfully Ignorant, Opting to Deny or Justify.
