Nathalie is a new rising star of TV drama, and is set to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Nicola Walker, Suranne Jones and Vicky McClure. She portrays Leila Hassoun-Kenny, a rigorous CPS lawyer leading the case against the accused. She stars alongside Adeel Akhtar (Sherwood), Joe Dempise (Game of Thrones) and Michael Socha (The Gallows Pole). The story will once again centre around a hotly contested criminal trial that divides the nation and takes place in the full glare of the media spotlight. Made by World Productions (Vigil, Line of Duty, Save Me) for the BBC and written by Ben Richards, the fictional five-part drama will focus on the high-profile case of ‘Officer X' - a policeman accused of murdering a climate change activist. Nathalie Armin, a Central School of Speech and Drama-trained actor, has made her mark across stage, film, and television. Currently gracing the Almeida stage in ALMA MATTER, she previously starred alongside James Norton in the award-winning A LITTLE LIFE in London's West End. Her theatrical repertoire includes powerful performances in FORCE MAJEURE (Donmar Warehouse), BEHIND THE BEAUTIFUL FOREVERS (National Theatre), and OTHELLO (RSC). She has also impressed audiences in THE DOCTOR (Almeida), ANNA (National Theatre), and RALEGH: THE TREASON TRIAL (Sam Wanamaker Playhouse: Shakespeare's Globe). On the small screen, Nathalie has left her mark with BBC Three comedy JUICE, and alongside Lesley Manville in MAGPIE MURDERS. Other projects include popular ITV drama's TOO CLOSE, MARCELLA, VERA and UNFORGOTTEN. Additionally, she graced the silver screen in films such as action-thriller ANNA, THE BATMAN, FINAL SCORE.
This week, six millennials are astonishingly successful finding a large house to rent — the power points don't work, there's no mobile reception and the walls are quite literally made of alien woodlice. Oh, and it collapses into dust on their first night. It's Knock Knock. Notes and links Brendan quickly identifies two of the film antecedents of this story: The Evil Dead (1981), with its demonically possessed trees, and Hitchcock's Psycho (1960), whose antagonist has a complex relationship with his mother. Nathan first encounters David Suchet as Blott in Blott on the Landscape (1985), a BBC adaptation of Tom Sharpe's 1975 satirical novel of the same name. Knock Knock was written by Mike Bartlett, who was famous for a TV series called Dr Foster (2015), starring Suranne Jones as a woman who starts to suspect her husband of infidelity. David Suchet's first appearance in a Poirot property starring Peter Ustinov as Poirot — the 1985 made-for-TV movie Thirteen at Dinner (1985), an adaptation of Christie's Lord Edgeware Dies (1933), in which Suchet played Inspector Japp. Simon refers to the vault-related theorising of Whovians, a comedy aftershow that accompanied Series 10, 11 and 12 of Doctor Who on ABC-TV in Australia. Our very own Adam Richard was a regular in the show's first two seasons. And finally, Brendan recklessly introduces us to another possible inspiration for this episode, the 1977 film Death Bed: The Bed That Eats, which we would all have been better off not knowing about. Three impressive dramas this week, all with good reasons to watch. It was a challenging week to pick a Show of the Week (at least for James…Andrew was decisive). First off Masters of the Air (AppleTV+, series) was under the microscope. The World War II airforce drama cost a bomb to make and you see where they money went the moment you start watching. Next up is Maryland (Britbox, series) which features the brilliant Suranne Jones and Eve Best as estranged sisters dealing with a family tragedy. Finally TV Gold reviews the Nicole Kidman-led drama about life in Hong Kong, Expats (Prime, series). It's an impressive piece of work on-screen and off by Kidman, her production company and the cast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When is a TARDIS not a TARDIS? When it's a bitey mad lady, of course. Yes, The Doctor's Wife shows a side of the show's signature blue box that we've never seen before, personifying the Doctor's “ship” in a way that's unexpected, insanely quirky and… well, sexy. That's thanks in large part to Suranne Jones' pitch-perfect performance as Idris, a woman possessed with the essence of the TARDIS, the Doctor's longest-running companion. Neil Gamian's clever script wisely gives her a lot of time opposite Matt Smith — at his madcap best — and fans will delight in seeing the Doctor and his time machine finally say the things they've always wanted to say to each other. But does that make the story a classic or just a really satisfying interlude?
As a trailblazer for cruelty-free, vegan products celebrity make-up artist Justine Jenkins has been one of the major forces in raising awareness in the cosmetics industry. This passion led to her writing Sustainable Beauty in December 2021 and today she discusses how if you speak your truth and show passion you can have an impact – and find success. Brought to you by Timely Business Management Software KEY TAKEAWAYS A lot of marketing language covers up the truth about the lack of awareness in the beauty industry. Only by raising our voices and making them heard can we get the message out there. When most people think of sustainability, they think of packaging. Packaging is only the tip of the iceberg. We need to ensure that other factors are added, including living wages to employees and waste management. Sometimes the fear of failing can hold us back from our dreams. However, we must balance this fear withe the fear of never trying at all. VALUABLE RESOURCES This episode of the Power of Makeup podcast was brought to you by Timely Business Management Software. Olive started their career at the age of 10 in The Story of Tracy Beaker (which we were all obsessed with, right?!?) before starring in the BAFTA nominated TV drama, Save Me, playing a teenage victim of sex trafficking, opposite Suranne Jones and Lennie James. And now Olive is playing Commander Miranda Keyes in Halo, which lands on Paramount+ this week after selling more than 82 million copies worldwide, and grossing more than 6 billion dollars as a computer game. Get ready for Olive's GCSE Bitesize breakdown about Halo in this episode, so if you aren't familiar with the franchise already - we got you! Aside from talking about their breakout role in the franchise, Olive talks about identity: from their racial identity, to being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, to their pronouns, and having ADHD. We need more open and honest conversations about all aspects of our identity, and in particular neurodiversity, so I hope you either feel seen, understood or enlightened by this episode. I also hope you keep on listening and finding the power to Reign in your own lives. If you love this episode, please get in touch (follow me across social media @joshsmithhosts), I love hearing from you. Love, Josh xxx
Welcome to another episode of OTTplay Now You Know, one podcast that gives you lesser-known trivia, anecdotes, and even facts about popular films and shows. I'm your host Nikhil. The hit BBC series, Gentleman Jack, set in the 19th century England, chronicles the life of industrialist Anne Lister, one of history's first openly lesbian women. Created by Sally Wainwright, the series stars Suranne Jones in the lead as Anne Lister. Gentleman Jack has returned for a second season this past month with the season finale expected to air on the 29th of May and can be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar in India. Let's get into some trivia now.Gentlemen Jack is adapted from a collection of diaries written by Anne Lister. They contain over 4 million words, with most of them written in a secret code.Anne Lister is described as masculine for her time for regularly wearing black attires and researching and studying subjects that men delved into at the time. This earned her the moniker of ‘Gentleman', which was used as a slur, whereas ‘Jack' was also a slur to describe a lesbian. However, in recent years Anne Lister's outfits have become an inspiration among the British LGBTQ community.Despite facing social stigma, Anne Lister was self-aware of her sexuality and lived openly as a lesbian, which essentially made her modern history's first lesbian. When the show was initially announced as an eight-part series by BBC and HBO in March 2017, it was titled Shibden Hall after the name of Lister's ancestral homeThe show's creator Sally Wainwright grew up in Yorkshire near Shibden Hall. Wainwright had dreamt of creating a drama about Anne Lister's life for nearly 20 years before Gentleman Jack was finally produced.Shibden Hall has now become a very popular tourist destination with its visitors tripling in numbers in recent years after the show's success. As a result, the opening hours have been increased significantly to accommodate this surge in numbers. The exteriors and interiors were used as filming locations for the show.Well, that's the OTTplay Now You Know for today, until the next episode it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poocho-Written by Ryan Gomez

From soap starlet to BAFTA winner, Suranne's career seemingly knows no bounds. Across her rolls in Coronation Street, Vigil, Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack amongst many others, Suranne has portrayed the full and varied gamut of female emotion and experience. And, she's no less engaging and passionate in real-life than she is on the stage or the telly. A loving mother, daughter and advocate for female power in the arts, Suranne is a brilliant way to close the series. She and Angela share loads in common and it's a brilliant chat. Q&A on the series Gentleman Jack with creator & showrunner Sally Wainwright, actor and executive producer Suranne Jones, and actor Sophie Rundle. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company. It's 1832 in West Yorkshire, England -- the cradle of the evolving Industrial Revolution -- where landowner Anne Lister is determined to save her faded ancestral home, Shibden Hall, even if it means bucking society's expectations. In addition to reopening the coal mines, a part of Lister's plan to help her family is to marry well. But the charismatic, single-minded Lister -- who dresses head-to-toe in black and charms her way into high society -- has no intention of marrying a man. "Gentleman Jack" examines Lister's relationships with her family, servants, tenants and industrial rivals, and would-be wife. The real-life Anne Lister's story was recorded in her diaries, and the most intimate details of her life are revealed for the series.

It's our first pod of 2022, and Kris and Tara jump straight into the deep end. They talk about Jeopardy! and how Wheel of Fortune is beneath Kris. (Did you know that Kris was almost on Wheel of Fortune? Or the obstacle that blocked her dreams of game show domination forever? Find out!) Also, it should be no surprise that Kris has an Alanis Morissette story. It's a good time. We have fun here. If you enjoy this episode, please consider buying Kris & Tara a Ko-fi! Official Recommendations This week, Kris recommends Vigil, a six-part series from BBC One. It revolves around the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death onboard a Trident nuclear submarine, which bring the police into conflict with the Navy and British security services. For Gentleman Jack fans, Suranne Jones heads up the investigation with Game of Thrones alum Rose Leslie. Tara rounds out the recommendations with Love and other Disasters by Anita Kelly, a romance about the first openly nonbinary contestant on America's favorite cooking show, who falls for their clumsy competitor. It's got angst, and it's that good, good angst. We're back! Sorry, illness has spread around the house recently, so we're here to catch up on everything we've not been able to talk about. In movies, Mark's been to see Free Guy (24:42), back when it was a new release (like we say, it's been a while...), we've both managed to check out the now non-Premium Access Cruella on Disney + (32:29), and OF COURSE Mark's been to see the latest film in the MCU, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (41:44). In this week's episode, Caroline has tooth ailments. Harper is still on a writing break, but working on the final edits on That Woman Next Door, which will be out in ebook, audio, paperback AND a swanky hardcover. She's also trying to be social-media-savvy. Harper is with book idea, but she has to wait a few weeks before she can begin writing it. Meanwhile, the Two Hearts Trilogy read along is still happening in the Facebook Group. We're enjoying Vigil on the BBC, which stars queer lady favourite Suranne Jones. We've also been watching old Silent Witness episodes. Harper has had some fan fiction in her head for years about Sam Ryan and Jane Tennyson (Prime Witness or Silent Suspect?) Harper has discovered a new favourite podcast: the Period Power podcast. Caroline's book of the week is All Adults Here by Emma Straub, which has quite a bit of queer content and was very enjoyable. Did you know that in 2013 Status Quo made a film? A film in which they are chased around Fiji by gangsters, stopping only to play ukulele versions of their biggest hits? Did you know it was directed by the Stunt Arranger from Mrs Brown's Boys, and the supporting cast is comprised solely of members of his family? Of course you didn't. You're normal decent people. You're watching the latest Suranne Jones 9 o'clock potboiler. A good job, then, that the Stalemates are here to pick up the slack. Because not only have they seen Bula Quo, John Stalemate actually owns it. Yes, the Stalemates are back - in the same room for the first time in two years and their excitement is palpable. Wine has been sloshed about, voices are raised, and opinions are aired like so much damp laundry. And between us we have a quantity of sopping linen. Find out that Joe was a teenage Quo fancier, what the band mean by "a polish", and hear a spirited defence of "Carry on Abroad" from the English Stalemate. Obviously. We're back. We're loud. We're nicher than ever. NB May contain factual innacuracies pertaining to classic tv cop show Ironside.
This week we review new series Nine Perfect Strangers, Suranne Jones's new TV movie, I Am Victoria, the new season of Lucy Lawless's My Life is Murder, and the first episode of the new season of The L Word: Generation Q. We also invite you to take part in Lady Gaga's foundation Born This Way's initiative #BeKind21
Many of us are guilty of refusing to stop, of continuing to distract ourselves while anxieties build beneath the surface. This is something BAFTA-winning actress Suranne Jones tackles in her new TV show I Am Victoria. In this installment of #GentlemanJackCrack we heap our eternal gratitude in drunken jaunty spades, onto show creator Sally Wainwright and stars Suranne Jones & Sophie Rundle, as we recap the most emotional episode of Gentleman Jack to date. Award-winning writer and director Mike Bartlett didn't always write: he dabbled in acting at university and afterwards wanted to go into directing theatre but would always “flunk the interviews”. Bad times. He began to write for a few reasons - one of which was boredom - and suddenly found his job interviews started to go well. Good times. The reason? “Because I didn't have to sell myself - I just put the script on the table. It was all about the work, not me.” His latest show on BBC One was the massively popular Doctor Foster starring Suranne Jones and Bertie Carvel. The series was the most watched new BBC TV drama so far this year with nearly 8 million people tuning into the finale. Writing for TV didn't come until quite a few years into his career, but that wasn't a conscious decision, he says. Mike has written for quite a few mediums. He's adapted theatre for radio (Not Talking), turned radio plays into stage plays (Contractions) and written for TV (ITV's The Town and BBC One's Doctor Foster). Is his approach the same for all those mediums? What are the main differences he's found? In this podcast Mike talks to Henry Swindell of BBC Writersroom about the importance of planning before writing absolutely anything. He discusses the differences when writing for different mediums, talks about how he came to write for TV, and shares his techniques for getting into the psyche for writing.
Doctor Foster is on the phone and she loves gravy, or 'Wet Food' as she tells Christian.

"The Doctor's Wife" is the fourth episode of the sixth series of the British science fiction television series , which was broadcast on 14 May 2011, written by . Contents [] [] Plot [] Synopsis While in deep space, the Doctor, Amy and Rory receive a hypercube containing a distress call from a . Tracing the source of the call to a rift leading outside the universe, the Doctor deletes part of his to generate enough energy to cross through the rift. After landing in a junkyard on a solitary asteroid, the TARDIS shuts down and its matrix suddenly disappears. The three explore, and meet the strange inhabitants, Uncle, Auntie, a green eyed called Nephew and an excited young woman named Idris who fawns all over, and then bites, the Doctor. While Uncle and Auntie lock up Idris, and Amy and Rory return to the TARDIS, the Doctor follows the distress signal and finds a cabinet containing a large number of hypercubes. Upon further investigation of Uncle and Auntie, he finds they are constructed of body parts from other beings, including Time Lords. They are controlled by the asteroid, called House, which is sentient and able to interface with other technology around it. House led the Doctor there and ripped out the TARDIS' matrix, initially in order to consume its Artron energy, but upon learning that the Doctor is the last Time Lord and that no more TARDISes will ever arrive, decides to transfer itself into the TARDIS and escape from the rift. Amy and Rory are trapped inside as the House-controlled TARDIS dematerialises. The Doctor learns that Idris contains the personality of the TARDIS' matrix. Idris, as the TARDIS, and the Doctor come to realise they selected each other hundreds of years prior when the Doctor fled , and have a personal chat. Without House's support, Uncle and Auntie die. Idris reveals that House had stranded many TARDISes before on the planet, and that this universe only has hours left before it collapses, and that Idris' body only has a short time before it also will fail. The Doctor and Idris work together to construct a makeshift TARDIS from scraps, and then pursue House. Aboard the Doctor's TARDIS, House threatens to kill Amy and Rory. He plays with their senses as they try to flee through the corridors, then sends Nephew after them. Idris makes a psychic connection with Rory to give him directions to a secondary control room, where he and Amy are able to lower the TARDIS shields without House's interference. This allows the Doctor to land the makeshift console in the secondary control room, which atomises Nephew. House deletes the secondary control room as he prepares to break through the rift, which the Doctor anticipates. The TARDIS safety protocols transfer them to the main control room, where the dying Idris releases the TARDIS matrix back to where it belongs, deleting House from the TARDIS machine. As the Doctor, Amy, and Rory recover, a remnant of the TARDIS matrix, still in Idris' body, sadly comments she will not be able to communicate with the Doctor after this but will be there for him. Idris' body disappears as the TARDIS matrix is fully restored. The Doctor installs a security field around the matrix to prevent it from being compromised in the future. Rory asks the Doctor about some of Idris' final words—"The only water in the forest is the river"—but the Doctor doesn't understand. After Amy and Rory leave to find a new bedroom, their original purged by House, the Doctor talks to the TARDIS, and, in response, a nearby lever moves on its own, sending the TARDIS to its next destination. [] Continuity This section may contain of published material that conveys ideas not to the original sources. See the for details. (May 2011) This section describes a work or element of fiction in a primarily style. Please to . (May 2011) "The Doctor's Wife" revisits many mythology elements regarding the Doctor and the TARDIS established from the original run of the show and continued into the new series. Idris, as the TARDIS, affirms that the Doctor left with her, a type 40 TARDIS, to flee Gallifrey more than 700 years ago, and the TARDIS' history of unreliability is explained as her taking the Doctor not where he wants to go, but where he needs to go. The Doctor has mentioned that the TARDIS is alive in previous episodes, including in , and has referred to 'her' as "old girl" many times, and as "sexy" occasionally in his Eleventh incarnation, both of which Idris indicates she likes. The Doctor refers to altering the control room's appearance as changing the , as the does in "". Like the in , the Doctor and Idris operate a TARDIS control panel outside of an outer TARDIS shell. The Doctor also jettisons TARDIS rooms to create thrust, as in and . The TARDIS is mentioned to have retained an archive of previous control rooms unbeknownst to the Doctor, including many he has yet to create; the one shown in this episode is the design featured between "" and "", used by the and Doctors. When speaking of his fellow Time Lord the Corsair, the Doctor implies that Time Lords can change gender on regeneration. The Doctor admits he killed all of the Time Lords, alluding to the events of the and . In , the contacted the Time Lords using a cube similar to those seen in this episode. The Doctor suggests visiting the Eye of Orion, which is seen in . The Doctor again refers to himself as "a madman with a box", reprising Amy's and his own description of himself in "The Eleventh Hour". The Ood "Nephew" displays green eyes (indicating, as with the green-lit TARDIS, that he is possessed by House); Oodkind's eyes also changed colour in "" / "" and "". Alluding to the Ood controlled by the Beast in the former episodes, the Doctor refers to Nephew as "another Ood I failed to save." The Doctor states that the Corsair always put a tattoo of a on each of his new bodies; the tattoo is on the left arm of his final body, being worn by Auntie. The 's body came complete with a snake tattoo on his left arm, as shown when he showers in . [] Production [] Writing "The Doctor's Wife" is Neil Gaiman's (pictured) first contribution to Doctor Who. The episode was written by Neil Gaiman. After replaced as the showrunner of Doctor Who, being a fan of Gaiman's blog, Moffat met with Gaiman and Gaiman asked to write an episode. In an interview Gaiman stated "I came up with something that was one of those things where you thought that nobody's done that before." The episode was originally titled "The House of Nothing". Gaiman suggested they make an episode which centres on the TARDIS itself, which was not done before for the entire series since it began in 1963. The central idea was a "what if" scenario to see what would happen if the Doctor and the TARDIS got to talk together. Head writer liked the idea of featuring the TARDIS as a woman, believing this to be the "ultimate love story" for the Doctor. Gaiman began writing the episode before Matt Smith was even cast as the Eleventh Doctor; Gaiman envisaged 's performance in the first draft, knowing Smith would play the Doctor differently. Despite this he had no issue writing the dialogue. The episode was originally slated for the eleventh episode of the . However, it was delayed to the sixth because of budget issues; the eleventh episode would be replaced with "". Even so, Gaiman was forced to operate with less money than he would have liked; for instance, he had to scrap a scene set in the TARDIS' . The move to the sixth series also meant Gaiman had to include Rory, who ceased to exist in the original slot in the fifth series. With Rory included, Gaiman had to "reshape" much of the second half of the episode, featuring Amy being on the run in the TARDIS. In the original draft where Amy was the only companion, Gaiman added a "heartbreaking monologue" by the character, further stating "you get to see what it's like to be the companion from the companion's point of view, and she got to talk about essentially in that version how sad it is, in some ways. One day something will happen to her, she'll get married, she'll get eaten by monsters, she'll die, she'll get sick of this, but he'll go on forever." At a certain point, Gaiman had tired of re-writing drafts and asked Steven Moffat for help. Moffat wrote in what Gaiman called "several of [the episode's] best lines" and rapidly rewrote several scenes when budget problems harmed filming locations. [] Casting In September 2010, Suranne Jones announced she was cast a guest spot on Doctor Who as Idris for an episode of the sixth series of Doctor Who. Jones previously played Mona Lisa in episode . Sometime after appearing on The Sarah Jane Adventures, Jones was contacted to appear on Doctor Who at Gaiman's request, because they were looking for an actress who "is odd; beautiful but strange looking, and quite funny." Moffat meanwhile described Idris as "sexy plus motherly plus utterly mad plus serene." During a read-through of the script, the producers asked her to "neutralise [her] a bit," because they did not want Jones to "be a Northerner" or have a standard accent, but to act "kinda like the Doctor." Later, in March 2011, Gaiman confirmed Michael Sheen would also guest star in the episode to voice a character. Adrian Schiller previously appeared in the audio drama where he played Zanith. [] Filming It was planned as the third episode in the 2011 series but the order was changed during the production process. Filming took place in August 2010, although during a 10 October 2010 appearance on , guest star Suranne Jones stated that she had been filming special effects only the night before. The scenes where Amy and Rory are on the run allowed the audience to explore the TARDIS outside the control room, something the producers had wanted to do for a while. A series of corridors was constructed and retained for future use. The episode also featured the return of the older TARDIS control room from the and David Tennant era. Gaiman had originally wanted to reconstruct a console room from the original series, but the cost proved prohibitive. The set was retained after filming for "The Eleventh Hour", but has since been removed. Arthur Darvill noted the floor of the older set had a -like quality to it, so when the scene called for the cast to fall on it, they found it uncomfortable to stay down for a long period of time. "The Doctor's Wife" features a make-shift TARDIS console, which was piloted by the Doctor and Idris. The console was designed by Susannah Leah, a schoolgirl from , who won a competition on , a children's creative arts program, that challenged its viewers to imagine a TARDIS console based on household objects. Leah's design was selected by Moffat, Edward Thomas, a production designer for Doctor Who, and Tim Levell, a Blue Peter editor, along with final input amoung the three age-group winners from Smith. Michael Pickward, the production designer for the series, commented that Leah's design captured the nature of "bits and pieces" of what TARDIS consoles have been in the past, as well as the nature of the makeshift console needed for this episode. The drawing was redesigned faithfully by the production team into the prop for the show, including the use of a coat hanger to start the makeshift TARDIS. Leah was brought by Blue Peter to see both the set under construction and on location during filming of the makeshift TARDIS scenes, meeting Smith and the other actors and production crew. will release a toy playset based on Leah's console later in 2011. The House planetoid in the pocket universe was filmed on location at a quarry outside . [] Broadcast and reception After its original broadcast, "The Doctor's Wife" received overnight figures of 6.09 million viewers, with a 29.5 per cent audience share. It became the third highest broadcast of the night, behind on , and the , which was shown later on BBC One. The episode recieved a final BARB rating of 7.97 million with an audience share of 34.7%. The episode was positively received. 's Dan Martin said: "With so many wild ideas at play, this would have been so easy to get wrong...yet in every sense it was pitched perfectly". gave the episode a score of "A", saying it was a "pretty terrific [episode]...a brisk, scary, inventive adventure filled with clever concepts and witty dialogue. And a lot of heart when in the way it deals with an important relationship rarely addressed on the series". [] References . BBC. Retrieved 5 May 2011. . . 4 May 2011. Retrieved 4 May 2011. . BBC.
