Vocations - Episode 01 - 2021-07-13 What is a Vocation? Fr. Dominic White, Dominicans, Cambridge Blackfriars – The Dominican Friars are a male religious order within the Catholic Church. We are called ‘Dominicans' after our founder, St Dominic, who established the order in 1216. We are recognisable by our distinctive black and white habit and the rosary that hangs from our belt. Our order includes a great number of saints and blesseds, such as St Martin de Porres, St Thomas Aquinas, and the artist Fra Angelico. The Dominican order is now present all over the world, and involved in a wide variety of activities. We are blessed with many vocations, meaning that there is a strongly youthful aspect to the order. After the Great War and Spanish Flu, the 1920s saw a rejuvenation of the economy with a golden age of booming consumerism, innovation and culture. Now economists are questioning whether history is set to repeat itself. Will we see the 2020s roar? Or is secular stagnation here to stay?In this episode our host Paul Diggle is joined by special guest Dominic White, Head of Economics at Absolute Strategy Research. Having published a recent note ‘Signs of a shift out of Secular Stagnation', Dominic comes with some interesting views on how we can compare the 1920s economic boom with the 2020s in relation to the economic aftermath of the Covid pandemic.Part 1 begins by characterising the Roaring Twenties decade, drawing parallels between 1920 and 2020 and explaining secular stagnation.Part 2 discusses why the Roaring 2020s analogy falls short and focuses on why investors and markets should remain optimistic.Don't forget to like and subscribe to our podcast on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts or wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.

Completed acquisition of Karlind Management Services Limited ("Karlind") Further to the announcement on 3 April 2018, KCR Residential REIT ("KCR") is pleased to announce that it has completed the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of Karlind, a company that owns 16 studio, one-and-two bedroom apartments in Ladbroke Grove, Kensington and one leasehold two-bedroom apartment in Harrow, for a total consideration of £5.35 million. KCR will satisfy the consideration through its banking facilities and cash reserves. KCR intends to deploy its proven active management skills to increase property values and rental yield through internal refurbishment and by obtaining planning consent for roof and rear extensions to the Kensington properties. The apartments, which are fully let, are situated in desirable locations for tenants given the close proximity to transport links and local retail and leisure amenities. The portfolio has a total rental income of over £0.25 million, and delivers a gross annual yield on consideration of 4.8 per cent.  The average unit value of the acquired properties is Â£314,700 and the average monthly rent is approximately Â£1,250 (£32 per sq. ft. per annum). Dominic White, the chief executive of KCR, commented: "This important acquisition fits perfectly within KCR's acquisition and growth strategy and will significantly increase the Company's net asset value per share. We are confident that we can further grow property value and rental yields through active management and our planned refurbishments."

Devices can be fooled into connecting to spoofed networks, authentication to wireless networks can either be cracked or intercepted, and our ability to capture credentials at a network level has long been established. Often, the most significant protection users have are hitting the right button on an error message they rarely understand. Worse for the user, these attacks can be repeated per wireless network allowing an attacker to target the weakest link. This combination of vulnerable and heavily used communications should mean that an attacker needs just arrive at a location and setup for credentials and access to start dropping from the sky. However, the reality is far from this; karma attacks work poorly against modern devices, network authentication of the weakest sort defeats rogue APs and interception tools struggle to find useful details. This talk is the result of our efforts to bring rogue AP attacks into the modern age. The talk will provides details of our research into increasing the effectiveness of spoofing wireless networks, and the benefits of doing so (i.e. gaining access). It includes the release of a new rogue access point toolkit implementing this research. Dominic is the CTO of SensePost, an information security company based in South Africa and London. He has worked in the industry for 10 years. He is responsible for SensePost's wireless hacking course, Unplugged. He tweets as @singe. Ian de Villiers is a security analyst at SensePost. Coming from a development background, his areas of expertise are in application and web application assessments. Ian has spent considerable time researching application frameworks, and has published a number of advisories relating to portal platforms.
