cable.percussion (Johnny McDowell) is a Dublin-based electronic music producer specialising in hardware-produced acid electronica. Active since early 2023, he is known for his energetic live performances and his unique style of psychological electronic music. His music is brimming with playful melodies and otherworldly acid basslines over frenetic and often aggressive beats that defy the listener to figure out its genre. Not afraid to experiment with different styles, his sound is forward-thinking, eclectic and unpredictable, but consistently held together by his signature brain-wiggling acid sounds and pummeling breaks-infused drum patterns. cable.percussion independently released his debut EP 'C.PERC' in August 2023, shortly after his debut live performance. He has since released the EP, 'Chrysalis' (Jan '24), and his first LP, '303 Mechanics' (Aug '24), with Dublin-based label Aduaine, as well as a 5-track EP called 'XYZ' with Icelandic label Intellitronic Bubble (Sep' 24), and has also recently had singles feature on various artists compilations with Aduaine (Paraben), as well as French label Tripalium Corp (Ketone). He continues to play live sets regularly around Dublin, and has played with Dublin-based collectives including Dublin Modular, Live&Electric, Dissolve and Áise agus Éire, as well as opening for bands including FM Attack, Shakalak and Robin Blakey, and recently played a set on Dublin Digital Radio (hosted by resident Ecstatic Intervals). cable.percussion's latest release - 11 mind-melting tracks collectively known as 'Acroplastics' - sees a further refinement in his sound, exploring a multitude of electronic genres and warping them into brain-bending acidified landscapes from outer space, designed to get the listener's brain dancing as much as their body. cablepercussion ------------------- SC: @cablepercussion IG: www.instagram.com/cable.percussion/ Label ------------------- SC: @computercontrolledrecords IG: www.instagram.com/computer_controlled_records Four Four Magazine --------------------------- FB: www.facebook.com/FOURFOURDANCE/ IG: www.instagram.com/fourfourmagazine/ Web: www.fourfourmag.com/

L.Ivory, a pillar of Dublin's queer scene and founder of NSFW, steps up to the 244th Local Selection Mix. Ivory's 90s-inspired set includes Baleric-brushed grooves, UK rave, smokey Panorama Bar style cuts and more for an hour of dancefloor pleasure. Best known for his party NSFW, the Dublin native established the forward-thinking queer party series in January 2022 to promote marginalised LQBTQ+ talent in his hometown. It's hard to believe the party has been going on for two and a half years, leaving its mark on the Dublin landscape and gaining a cult following thanks to its utopian vibe, free of judgement and promoting pure freedom of expression. L. Ivory‘s work in Dublin club culture extends beyond NSFW; he is also promoting shows under a new brand, SissHut, in Yamamori Tengu. His NSFW radio show on Dublin Digital Radio, a community-driven station, has provided a platform for emerging talent while also allowing the NSFW boss to showcase his diverse musical tastes. The Dublin-based artist has also been making his mark across Ireland's festival circuit, frequently appearing across some of the Isle's most coveted stages at Electric Picnic, All Together Now, Otherside and Life Festival. He has also shared the booth with various esteemed artists including Traumer, Dungeon Meat, Spray, IN2STELLAR, Doudou Md, and many more. Ivory's contribution to the Local Selection Mix series is a smooth ride through his refined mix of dancefloor-ready tracks, delicately merging contrasting tools into a smooth-sailing adventure that is as surprising as it is coherent. A good DJ mix can be often defined by depth, and L.Ivory's mix is nothing short of tunnelling deeper and deeper as it advances from hypnotising prog rollers to trance-kissed anthems, reducing acid lines, vintage Dublin rave classics, and more. This is a true DJ at work; each mix is well-thought-out but not overly premeditated, allowing for plenty of twists and turns. S-Agenda is a 22-year-old DJ whose versatile style and open-minded selections have seen her grow from strength to strength in the past year. Her mixes draw from a range of sonic influences including techno, trance, electro, rave, and house primarily. The thoughtful selector puts particular focus on the fusion of old school with the new, to curate a fresh yet nostalgic sound. Having played piano and violin from a young age, she is extremely passionate about music and aims to carry that through to her sound by infusing uplifting, exciting and unexpected blends into her sets. While DJing since 2019, the young artist solidified herself within the Dublin scene after winning the Skin & Blister x Forbidden Fruit Emerging Artist Call Out last summer. This saw her earn a coveted spot on the festival's lineup and smash a later set at its afterparty, supporting homegrown star Saoirse. Since then, she has confidently played her way across the Dublin clubscape in the likes of Tengu, SoundHouse, The Grand Social, Bowlane, The Sugar Club, Wigwam, Izakaya and Index, where she rang in the New Year on main support for the legendary DART. Her versatile sound has seen her further land on the bill with an array of artists including Floorplan, Sunil Sharpe, High Fidelity, Jennifer Loveless, Ngoni Egan and Mia Lily. She also hosts a monthly show ‘FACE 4 RADIO' on Dublin Digital Radio, where any and all electronic genres are explored by herself and various guest DJs who share her passionate ‘no rules, just vibes' outlook on music. S-Agenda's contribution to the Local Selection Series aims not to fit into one box, oscillating from techno and old-school rave to electro, 90s club and psychedelic trance. She overlays persistent pulsing grooves with a tapestry of melodies to bring the listener on a high-energy and dancefloor-oriented journey through her most loved sounds. We present a landmark Local Selection Mix as we reach the 200 mark with a juggernaut of a mix from Dublin based selector Sleepless Beauty. The eclectic selector runs through a flurry of whirling techno grooves, leaning on wonky Chicago flavours right through to tough IDM inspired tools, she leaves no qualms in her appetite for rabbit-hole styled techno selecting. A chameleon styled DJ with a wide-ranging music taste, ranging from disco to techno & house beats, she is influenced by the warehouse sounds of Berlin and draws inspiration from artists such as Tiga, LSDXOXO, Green Velvet, Soulwax & Boys Noize. Sleepless Beauty has made her mark on Dublin's dance music spaces including Centre Point, Lost Lane, Soundhouse, Pygmalion, Opium, Tramline, Bowlane Social Club & Workman's Club. The rising DJ has also held her own on various radio shows and podcasts for Dublin Digital Radio & hosted a monthly music show on Phever, while also guesting for Gash Collective, Houseflow, TRP, Hot House Label and Nialler9. She has showcased her prowess on the festival circuit playing at Body and Soul, KnockanStockan & All Together Now alongside a standout closing set The Pagoda Stage at Electric Picnic festival. Her latest venture comes under the name Fluid, Ireland's first ever dedicated Club Night for Bisexual, Pansexual, the Fluid and Flexible. This marks a new era for both Irish clubbing and Sleepless Beauty as she leaves her stamp on Irish club culture with a forward thinking approach to inclusivity. Sleepless Beauty's contribution to the Local Selection Mix see's her glue together divergent sounds into a hefty cocktail of psychedelic infused club rollers. The young DJ submerges herself into indifferent sounds, calling on crooked rhythms and off-kilter melodies while marrying them with barefaced four to the floor power, somehow condensing this raw collection of soundscapes into the umbrella term of techno. Unparalleled originality that is both refreshing and bold. This week's entry to the Local Selection Mix Series welcomes esteemed Subject resident Niall Cleary. The massively talented and ever-consistent DJ has put forward a sensational mix featuring 57 tracks with a host of Irish and international talent throughout. Niall has been a key cog in the Dublin techno machine since the early 2000s when nights like Electric City and venues such as Redbox and the old Tivoli Theatre were in their prime. A student of the fast, loop-driven techno from the late 90s, and early 2000s eras, his sets are high energy, full of fast transitions and expert blends. Since late 2009, Niall has been a resident DJ with the renowned Subject events, playing alongside some of the biggest names in house, techno, and electro, as well as appearances at clubs and festivals such as District 8, Index, Twisted Pepper, Life, and Electric Picnic. Niall also holds a residency on Dublin Digital Radio where he plays alongside Mutate Events who host a bi-monthly techno show on Thursday nights where they focus on showcasing emerging and already-established Irish artists. Having played alongside techno stalwarts Dave Clarke, Paula Temple, Surgeon, DJ Bone, Jeff Mills, DVS1, Juan Atkins, Karenn, and more, Niall's pedigree in providing a classy warm-up set is frankly second to none. Niall's skill behind a pair of turntables is not restricted to serving up the starters, as he's been frequently found dishing out peak-time tools at numerous Irish festivals including Life Festival, Electric Picnic, and more. Niall's entry to the Local Selection features a range of brilliant artists that include SHDW & Obscure Shape, Alarico, Truncate, Lars Huismann, Tommy Holohan, Doug Cooney, Aero, Mode_1, Slam, Casper Hastings, and more throughout and just coming in at just over 2 hours in length. Chosta aka Conor Kelly is a Dublin artist who releases his debut album Twilight Transmission on Friday, February 17. He launches the record with a show at the Workman's Cellar that night. Twilight Transmission is a concept record about a fictional network of interconnected radio stations, inspired by the outliers of radio station programming, including Donal Dineen, NTS and Dublin Digital Radio, in an increasingly homogenous radio landscape. I met Conor at Trinity on a bright, brisk spring day to talk about making Twilight Transmission, which was written and recorded throughout lockdown. We talk about his collaborations with Jape and Fears, supporting Caribou, and how the concept behind the album developed. Tokyo Story (1953) directed by Yasujirō Ozu A profoundly stirring evocation of elemental humanity and universal heartbreak, Tokyo Story is the crowning achievement of the unparalleled Yasujiro Ozu. The film, which follows an aging couple's journey to visit their grown children in bustling postwar Tokyo, surveys the rich and complex world of family life with the director's customary delicacy and incisive perspective on social mores. Featuring lovely performances from Ozu regulars Chishu Ryu and Setsuko Hara, Tokyo Story plumbs and deepens the director's recurring theme of generational conflict, creating what is without question one of cinema's mightiest masterpieces. Le Havre (2011) directed by Aki Kaurismäki. In this warmhearted comic yarn from Aki Kaurismäki, fate throws the young African refugee Idrissa (Blondin Miguel) into the path of Marcel Marx (André Wilms), a kindly old bohemian who shines shoes for a living in the French harbor city Le Havre. With inborn optimism and the support of his tight-knit community, Marcel stands up to the officials doggedly pursuing the boy for deportation. A political fairy tale that exists somewhere between the reality of contemporary France and the classic French cinema of the past, Le Havre is a charming, deadpan delight and one of the Finnish director's finest films. The Killing (1956) directed by Stanley Kubrick. Stanley Kubrick's account of an ambitious racetrack robbery is one of Hollywood's tautest, twistiest noirs. Aided by a radically time-shuffling narrative, razor-sharp dialogue from pulp novelist Jim Thompson, and a phenomenal cast of character actors, including Sterling Hayden, Coleen Gray, Timothy Carey, Elisha Cook Jr., and Marie Windsor, The Killing is both a jaunty thriller and a cold-blooded punch to the gut. And with its precise tracking shots and gratifying sense of irony, it's Kubrick to the core. Claire's Knee (1970) directed by Eric Rohmer. “Why would I tie myself to one woman?” asks Jerôme in Claire's Knee, though he plans to marry a diplomat's daughter by summer's end. He spends his July at a lakeside boardinghouse, nursing crushes on the sixteen-year-old Laura and, more tantalizingly, her long-legged, blonde, older half sister, Claire. Baring her knee on a ladder under a blooming cherry tree, Claire unwittingly incites a moral crisis for Jerôme while creating an image that is both the iconic emblem of Eric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales and one of French cinema's most enduring moments. To Be or Not to Be (1942) directed by Ernst Lubitsch As nervy as it is hilarious, this screwball masterpiece from Ernst Lubitsch stars Jack Benny and, in her final screen appearance, Carole Lombard as husband-and-wife thespians in Nazi-occupied Warsaw who become caught up in a dangerous spy plot. To Be or Not to Be is a Hollywood film of the boldest black humor, which went into production right before the U.S. entered World War II. Lubitsch manages to brilliantly balance political satire, romance, slapstick, and wartime suspense in a comic high-wire act that has never been equaled.
