A one-pot wonder shared with a chart-topping star. Marcus Mumford is an American-British singer, songwriter, musician and producer. He is best known as the lead singer of the award-winning English folk-rock band Mumford & Sons. Marcus took the train from his home in Devon to visit us for a chat about the band's latest album, Prizefighter, and their headline show at BST Hyde Park on 4 July.  But before that, we take a closer look at some of Marcus's favourite meals, including beef Wellington which, we find out, is a dish Angela is only going to master in exceptional circumstances. We hear about how Marcus and his wife, actor Carey Mulligan, have a small but mighty crop of fruit and veg at their Devon home, and how they like to entertain... at lunchtimes. We also get the recipe for Marcus's cauliflower salad that routinely impressed Taylor Swift, the origin story of his Oscar tattoos, and how he and the band have moved away from warm beer, chocolate and crisps in their dressing room. Angela cooks Ravinder Bhogal's Awadhi chicken pulao, served with naans, poppadoms and mango chutney. The suggested wine pairing is a bottle of Jackson Estate Sauvignon Blanc, while Marcus enjoys a 0.0% Gin & tonic.  You can watch full episodes of Dish on YouTube and on Spotify.  All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes The recipe for Awadhi chicken pulao was created for Waitrose by Ravinder Bhogal A transcript for this episode can be found at waitrose.com/dish If you want to get in touch with us about anything at all, contact dish@waitrose.co.uk  Dish from Waitrose is made by Cold Glass Productions 00:00 Welcome!  04:11 Marcus Mumford is here!  05:21 Cauliflower salads & balsamic vinegar 07:40 Cheers!  08:39 Food likes & the beauty of Beef Wellingtons  12:50 Tiramisu tasting  13:30 Cooking at home & growing up  17:03 From gardening to tour life  20:55 Food is served!  25:03 Wine pairing  25:28 Cooking with rabbit & venison  27:21 New record & BST Hyde Park show  29:22 From band rituals to writing music  31:46 Oscar tattoos & life at the Mumford's  36:10 Fast food quiz  38:32 End of the show question Learn more about your ad choices. Artist Friendly with Joel Madden

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Maisie Peters. The British singer-songwriter's last album, 2023's The Good Witch, was a “twisted” take on a breakup album, exploring the “fun and intrigue in being so hurt because it means you cared so much.” Her latest record, Florescence, takes a softer, brighter turn that's grounded in hope as Peters embraces adulthood. In episode 163, astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield dive into the birth charts of Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan and Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford. Starting with Marcus: his Aquarius Sun reveals a humanitarian, group-loving nature. A Mars sextile gives him decisive drive, but a Pluto square to his Sun shows a life and identity forged through crisis and intensity. Not all is heavy, though—his Moon and Jupiter in Pisces point to deep emotional wisdom and a powerful healing gift. For Carey: strong Gemini energy (Sun, Chiron, and Mars) shapes her path. Her rise to fame includes pivotal moments of writing letters to mentors, with Chiron's wound appearing in communication struggles. Her Virgo Moon can over-analyze feelings, yet gives her a close relationship with health and body. Venus in Aries? She fights for what she wants—like her focused life goal of acting. Together, their air-sign Suns create a free flow of intellectual, social energy. Their minds align, and positive Venus-Mars contacts suggest attraction, excitement, and complementary chemistry. But challenges appear: a Moon square Saturn brings judgment of emotions, while the other partner's Moon square Uranus creates inconsistency at home. Will these aspects lower their Venus score significantly? Listen in to find out.

Mumford & Sons are a British folk-rock band made up of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett and Ted Dwane, who rose to global fame with their banjo-driven folk rock, earning BRIT and Grammy success with the records ‘Sigh No More' and ‘Babel'. Their latest album, ‘Prizefighter', was co-written and co-produced with Aaron Dessner, and features collaborations with Hozier, Gracie Abrams, Gigi Perez and Chris Stapleton, with the band embracing a new creative freedom in the process. This week Joe kicks things off by asking “What hobby do you miss?” — but the chat quickly derails into the absolute ridiculousness of penny farthings and how anyone ever rode those things without instant regret. Then Jake shares his fresh run-in with a swooping magpie and wants the boys to predict: what happens next?  Jake hosts “Oh Hai Mark!” featuring three very different Marks - Zuckerberg, Cuban, and Marcus Mumford - and the boys have to work out which fact belongs to which Mark. And to wrap things up, Riley wants answers: What's the expiry date on Halloween? after he found himself at a full Halloween party… on November 14th.

The group, which also includes Taylor's brother, Griffin, has released nine full-length studio albums, six of which have hit the Top 5 on Billboard's Americana/Folk Albums chart, and four of which have hit the Top 10 on Billboard's rock chart. In addition to his work with Dawes, he has been a member of the band Middle Brother with Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit and John McCauley of Deer Tick. Taylor also contributed to T Bone Burnett's New Basement Tapes project—which completed unfinished Bob Dylan songs—alongside Marcus Mumford, Jim James, Rhiannon Giddens, and Elvis Costello. As a songwriter outside the band, Taylor has collaborated with The Killers, Conor Oberst, Brandon Flowers, Robert Ellis, Demi Lovato, and his wife Mandy Moore. The most recent Dawes album, released in October of 2024, is called Oh Brother. Sadly, not long after our conversation, both Taylor and his brother Griffin became victims of the massive Southern California wildfires that devastated portions of the Los Angeles area and severely damaged or destroyed their homes.

We wanted to start this season with an episode dedicated to our friend and team member, Natalia Green. Natalia passed away from MBC at the age of 39 on November 29, 2023. She was an integral part of the podcast team, having been a senior producer/host and right-hand woman to Lisa Laudico, our founder. She became involved in the podcast through her advocacy work, starting first after her early-stage breast cancer diagnosis, then becoming more involved in the metastatic breast cancer community after she received her MBC diagnosis. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Rosy and son Iggy, and a loving wife and friend to her husband of 19 years, Danny.  She was a daughter, a mother, and a cousin, holding a special place in the lives of everyone she met. Lastly, she was our friend. We'll miss hearing her speak with passion about topics she wanted to cover on the podcast, we'll miss seeing Iggy & Rosy pop their heads into our Monday meetings, but mostly we'll miss seeing her beautiful smile. The entire OMBCL podcast team is lovingly dedicating our 8th season to Natalia. We hope it holds a modicum of the impact that Natalia has had on the world. The team would love to extend our heartfelt thanks to Danny Green for all his help in creating this episode.MUSIC CREDITS:-'Meditation I' by Sufjan Stevens-'Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song)' by Oscar Isaac and Marcus Mumford

Brandi Carlile: Live From My Couch! Episode 77. Double Date with Brandi & Catherine Carlile! Brandi Carlile is an eleven-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, performer, producer, #1 New York Times Bestselling author and activist – one of music's most respected voices. Aside from the production of her own work, Carlile has been increasingly in-demand as a record producer – helming albums by Tanya Tucker, Lucius, The Secret Sisters, Brandy Clark, and Tish Melton. Tanya Tucker's 2019 album While I'm Livin', co-produced by Carlile with Shooter Jennings, won the GRAMMY for Best Country Album. Last year saw her production talents excel with new album projects from Brandy Clark and Joni Mitchell – both of which took home wins at this year's GRAMMY Awards – as well as her cover of “Home” for the last season of Ted Lasso and her version of “Closer To Fine” with wife Catherine Carlile for Barbie The Album (Best Weekend Ever Edition). Carlile has collaborated closely with Joni Mitchell, Elton John, The Highwomen, Soundgarden, Alicia Keys, Marcus Mumford, Dolly Parton and more. When not on the road, she spends time in her home studio in rural Washington state where she and Catherine raise their two daughters, Evangeline and Elijah. Tish Melton: 18-year-old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who wears her incredibly perceptive heart on her sleeve. “As a songwriter, I've realized you can just tell stories,” she says. “They don't have to be big, dramatic moments. Personally, I learned how to write songs by simply sharing my journey and feeling how I naturally do.” For her debut EP When We're Older, she has teamed up with eleven-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Brandi Carlile, who is a mentor to Melton and joins as producer. Their musical chemistry is undeniable, rooted in mutual respect, shared taste, and an appreciation for good songwriting and musical catharsis. Inspired by the clear-eyed storytelling and indie rock influences of Taylor Swift and boygenius, Melton chronicles teenage relationships – from the lonely pain of first love, unrequited love, friend crushes, joyous friendships, and the pain, fear and excitement of becoming an adult. She tells these stories as she's living them, with a sharp eye for detail and lyricism that brings them to life. Her work has received praise from Variety, V Magazine, FLOOD, and Magnet Magazine. When We're Older is a bold and generous opening statement from a newcomer who is destined to share her stories, and it's available to stream or download now.
