I am so excited to dive into today's conversation with Ashton Whitmoyer-Ober, also known as Enneagram Ashton. I've been an avid follower of Ashton's Instagram since 2019 and have loved her insightful posts and ability to decode the complexities of the Enneagram. So today, we are diving in deeper to talk about how understanding your Enneagram profile can help you both personally and in your business. Ashton is an Enneagram expert who is dedicated to helping people better understand themselves and others by educating them on the Enneagram. From personal experience, understanding your Enneagram type is a profoundly uplifting journey. It offers a unique lens through which we can view ourselves, our motivations, and the beautiful tapestry of human behaviour. In this conversation, we talk about why the Enneagram isn't just another personality test. It's an ancient system that categorises individuals into nine distinct personality types. What sets it apart is its focus on motivations and underlying fears, not just observable behaviours. Ashton takes us through each type, shedding light on their desires, fears, and typical traits.Ashton highlights how the Enneagram goes beyond surface traits and delves into the "why" behind our actions. It's an incredible tool that helps us explore our deepest motivations, paving the way for genuine self-awareness. The Enneagram isn't about confining us to a box; it's about understanding our tendencies and working towards becoming the best version of ourselves. We also talk about how the Enneagram can support entrepreneurs and Ashton beautifully explains that by understanding our type, we can make informed decisions about areas we excel at and where we might need assistance. For me, the most powerful aspect of the Enneagram is the awareness of yourself and others. It's a tool that empowers us to embrace our strengths, work on our growth areas, and foster more meaningful connections, both personally and in our businesses. I can't recommend this episode highly enough and I know you're going to get so much out of this conversation. I found the enneagram several years ago and was fascinated by how accurate, and informative, it was at explaining how I work, what I'm motivated by, and what can be my Achilles heel if I don't watch it. More than that, it helped me to better understand those around me. It helped me to not take things so personally when I saw clear as day how different we're all wired and motivated. On today's episode, I talk to Enneagram expert Enneagram Ashton, who gives us a high level overview of the 9 types so you can see where you fit into it. There was so much we couldn't cover in our short chat, but I hope it gives you enough of a taste to spark your interest to learn more! Are you someone who is curious about who you are?You want to learn how to feel more connected to your friends, family, and even yourself. You are yearning to dig deeper to discover what motivates you to live a bigger life.Or maybe you are searching for how to stand back up after being brought to your knees from hearing about a dear friend's illness or constantly worrying about your teenage kids. Well, you are not alone. In fact, we are kindred spirits. I have been this way my whole life. I have always been super curious, not only about my own personality but about everyone around me. My sister once told me that when I was in 6th grade, I wrote her a letter from camp saying I was sitting on my bunk thinking about what I wanted to be when I grew up.What? At summer camp? You mean I wasn't writing about the awful food, water balloon fights, or crushes I had on the boys in the cabin next door?Nope, I was pondering my greater existence. Those who know me well may be thinking “ah yes, I am not surprised”.If you find yourself pondering about your own existence, you will be very excited about this week's guest on the Cracking Open Podcast. Ashton Whitmoyer-Ober is a community psychologist, speaker, and certified Enneagram educator. She is also the author of Enneagram for Relationships, The Two of Us: A Three-Year Couples Journal and The Enneagram Made Simple. With a desire to see relationships strengthened and people empowered, she created Enneagram Ashton in early 2019. You may be asking yourself – what is the Enneagram? Ashton shares with us this incredible ancient system that will not only help you strengthen your relationships but also help you not take things so personally in life.Because as we know (but it is so hard to remember), nothing is really personal.Ashton and I not only talk about the Enneagram system and how it can help you make better decisions, live a healthier life, and step into your powerful self with boundaries and love, but we also dive into her own personal “cracking open moment” and how it led her to be the compassionate and badass woman and mother she is today. So give yourself this time to take a walk, a drive, or make a cup of tea and listen to Ashton's wisdom around the Enneagram to learn and love more about your true self. xo,MollyLearn more about Ashton Whtimoyer-Ober here Purchase Ashton's book The Enneagram Made Simple here Find Ashton on Social:Instagram TikTokLearn more about Molly Carroll hereGet your free Body Emotion MapFind me on Social:InstagramFacebook
Ashton Whitmoyer-Ober who is also known as "Enneagram Ashton" joins me in this episode to talk about the Enneagram which is an ancient personality typing system . Ashton uses her knowledge to help people strengthen their relationships and become the best versions of themselves through the framework of the Enneagram and shares her knowledge on the podcast. One of the most interesting things about the Enneagram is that it uses a number system to put people into types based on motivations. The motivations that the enneagram is based on are what people's biggest desires and their biggest fears are. So instead of typing an individual based on WHAT they do - which is the behaviour - it types individuals based on WHY they do it - which is their motivation.Ashton explains things so clearly and gives examples that help us all understand both the enneagram framework and ourselves better.I invite you to pop in your earbuds and head out for a walk and enjoy the podcast. The enneagram is an ancient typing system that introduces 9 perspectives or different ways of viewing the world. What makes the enneagram different from other personality typing is that it focuses on our motivations, biggest fears, and greatest desires. Ashton helps individuals go beyond a simple test to discover their own enneagram type. Ashton explains what wings are and common misconceptions about them. She also shares how learning the enneagrams of those closest to you can improve your relationships. During the episode, she also shares more about her book and what the reader will learn from it. Are you born with an enneagram type? Can difficult life experiences influence your type? Enneagrams are thought to be something we are born with. Negative life experiences and trauma can make it difficult for you to figure out your type because your coping mechanisms can influence your thoughts and behaviors. Ashton emphasizes that couples shouldn't use the enneagram to find a partner. Partner compatibility is flexible, and it's more about navigating your differences no matter which enneagram each of you may be. You can find out more by checking out Ashton on Instagram. Listener beware - if you're not ready for your core fears and desires in life to be exposed, this episode may not be for you! Just kidding. Well, sort of… Today on the podcast Jess Gartner is back to finish up our conversation on the Enneagram. This personality tool has become one of the most popular out there because, not only is it pretty spot-on, but it will help you to know what to do with your personality type and how to make sure you stay in a healthy place. In Part 1 last week, Jess and I joked that if you don't want more self-awareness then the Enneagram probably isn't for you. But really, who doesn't need more self-awareness in their life?! The beautiful thing about this conversation, though, is that it's not just about US - it's also about how we can have increased empathy and understanding in our relationships with those around us. Again, who doesn't need more of that in their life?! In that episode we also started diving into the first three types of the Enneagram. So today, we're wrapping it up with types 4 through 9. Personally, I'm a type 7, so this episode is even more exciting to me! No matter what number you identify with, though, it's important to get a good understanding of them all for a few reasons. First, it can help you confirm what type you are. Second, even once you know your type, you must recognize that we all have connections to several other types on the diagram. And third, it's good to know what the other numbers mean so that you can have a little more appreciation when you meet people who are different than you! (Hint: some of these people may be living in your very own house…) While analyzing personality types is always an interesting conversation to me, Jess's main message today is to have compassion. It's something we need for ourselves and for our loved ones as we navigate this journey we call life. And hey, now that you know better, you can continue to do better!
