This week the 17Twenty crew sits down with Kent Rabalais, the founder and CEO of Kent Studio, a company powered by creatives and technologists who tell redemptive stories that reveal the wonder so often hidden in our world.Kent is often-described as Stewart's oldest friend, dating back to around 1988.  Though the story that's told on this week's podcast starts with an old basketball story, it weaves through tales of self-reflection, depression, the path to identify "Who am I? What am I called to do? What are the right next steps to get there?", loss of a parent, divorce from a spouse, and the ever-weaving redemptive story of Christ. We're so thankful we get the chance to tell these stories and provide some guidance to others through them, and this week contains fistfuls of guidance across all aspects of life.  Grab your journal and a quiet space for this one.// Show Notes //Gentle and Lowly Book by Dane OrtlundPaterson (LifePlan)Human Operating System Book by Jack Nicholson Praying The Bible Book by Donald Whitney

Today I'm wicked happy to welcome hip-hop star, lyricist, comic scribe and good friend Esoteric to The Alden Report podcast. As a Boston based underground hip-hop artist, Esoteric is half of the hip hop duo 7L & Esoteric, a third of Czarface and is a member of underground hip-hop collectives Army of the Pharaohs and Demigodz. Along with 7L and Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck, Esoteric formed the hip hop supergroup Czarface in 2013 when they released their acclaimed debut studio album, Czarface. This album was followed by Every Hero Needs a Villain in 2015 and A Fistful of Peril in 2016, both of which were also praised by critics. In 2018, Czarface released a collaborative album with MF DOOM titled Czarface vs Metalface and their newest album Czarmagedon just recently dropped this year. We take an inside look into what it takes to make it in the world of hip hop over the last 20 years and we take a deep dive into Esoteric's approach to creating, merchandising and promoting the Czarface brand as well as his collaborations with some of the biggest names in hip hop and street art. The inspiring, endearing and somewhat surprising backstory of the creation of the Czarface brand is itself worth the listen. Lastly, we learn the fascinating story of how Esoteric got verified and received a blue checkmark on Instagram with the help of none other than the one and only Gary Vaynerchuk.Thank you very much to Esoteric for joining us this week on The Alden Report. For more information on Esoteric and Czarface, you can visit: https://www.czarface.com/ and follow him on Instagram at: @czarface_esoThank you to this episode's sponsor: Wicked Happy – Apparel To Make You SmileThe way we live our lives depends on our outlook. Learn how to sell more by looking at Heros and Villains  If you want to be a top performer in sales you will want to look for ways to describe what you are doing but differently. When you can think through problems a little diffrenlty and then explain them to others it creates conflict and interest.  There are 2 movies that can help with the idea of a hero vs a villain. Both of these movies can shed some light on how to increase the conversation of a hero vs a villain.  Mission impossible 2 Unbreakable Explain a better advantage and or benefit in sales  You have to be able to explain what you have or how your advantage matters. The problem is when done wrong this is boring. You can't just be the good guy. You need to add conflict to the conversation. You need to know what a villain is (every industry has multiple villains) Law Competitor Product flaw Salespeople Rule changes Your buyer has villains and they need heroes  What is it the buyer doesn't like and what is it that they really hate? This is always a good place to start with looking to explain heroes and villains in sales. Just for a quick list or reference point here are the most common villains you will face in sales.  Pushy salesperson Terms Availability How to spot villains and heroes in real-life examples  Look for outside reference points to learn how to produce villains. You can start with character diamonds as a way to think through the plot of salespeople and villains.  WWE / WWF  Politics  The news Your competition should be the villain What does your competition do, this is a great place to build out a villain.  Bear traps - episode 152 of the how to sell show.  You cant use the same villain as someone else as effective as building a new villain You need intrigue and surprise You have to be able to explain their problem better You are what fixes the problem as an expert / then the product or service Actions you can take to create Heroes and Villains  Sit down today and think of how you are the hero and who or what is the villain. Map these ideas out and tier them: What you market says vs what you do How others can pin you as the villain and how you can counter it

I thought there would be no better way to celebrate him than to talk about just how much he means to me. And if you find yourself needing more cheerleaders in your life, I’ve got just the thing. Happy Hump Day! We know how hard the middle of the week can be, but it doesn't have to be. Instead of pumping our bodies with quick fixes like a 5-Hour Energy drink or (if you're me) more and more coffee, let's explore the most natural remedy to sluggishness. Energy drinks or other similar power-ups are like band-aids for a deeper real problem. Our amazing bodies store energy and will inevitably use up what supply they have. If you're not storing energy, then what does your body have to use? Yellow Sun There are seven spectral classes, yellow being smack in the middle. On the low (cold) end is blue and on the high (hot) end is red. We live under a Class G2 star which provides Earth with exactly what it needs to sustain life. I personally do not find this to be a coincidence! The sun has fascinated humans for as long as humans have been humans. It has been worshipped, venerated, studied, contemplated, avoided, sought... but not yet explored. We have a much more complete understanding of the sun now than we ever did, and yet some basic truths don't seem to absorb quite as well as the sun's rays in mid-summer. Superman's powers develop as a result of absorbing the yellow sun's UV rays. Comic book canon calls it the photonucleic effect. What I love about the story of Superman is that sort of tells an exaggerated story of humans through the lens of this alien with super-human powers. We all have this ability to be different, to set ourselves apart, and to use the natural elements of our world to accomplish great things, and when Superman absorbs the yellow sun he flies and fights to these great heights we can only imagine. But Superman would not be Superman without the yellow sun. In fact, comic book canon makes it very clear that when Superman lives under a red sun (a star so hot that its power is very, very weak) he loses his power. The sun is a source of life. Without the sun, everything on planet earth would die. But we don't just live on the sun, we need many nutrients and many elements and neglecting any of them will cause deficiencies. If getting some natural sun has fallen out of your daily routine, add it back in and start to take inventory of your energy levels. Power up!
