Hello and welcome to yet another episode of the Tech for Good Live podcast. It's a podcast all about using technology to have a positive social impact. In this episode we are talking about the steps that Meta is taking around political content in what is an astoundingly important year across the world for elections. Is Zuck continuing on his mission to destroy the world, or are there some positive steps? We recorded this on Valentine's Day, so this means we are talking about AI partners… which is a thing apparently. And we'll be talking about a law that Australia passed that forbids employers from contacting workers after hours, with penalties including jail time for bosses who do the wrong thing. Welcome to the Tech for Good Live podcast! In case you're new here, come on in and take a seat, if you're an old hat - thanks for sticking around. Hello and welcome to yet another episode of the Tech for Good Live podcast! If you're new here, it's a podcast all about using technology to have a positive social impact. My main advice for any new listeners tuning in is to stop listening right now. Honestly, we're not worth your time. If you do decide to stick around though, we've some interesting stories in this week's episode. We're talking about a new report into the dangers of Facebook's encryption plans. Welcome to another episode of the Tech for Good Live podcast! If you're new here and you're wondering what the hell you've stumbled into, we're a bunch of pals that gather together once a week to talk about technology being used to make the world a better place. Well, in all honesty, we often end up talking about tech being used for evil but “Tech for Bad Live” isn't as catchy is it?! And there are still glimmers of hope out there of wonderful people doing amazing things with tech. So as we soldier on into murky corridors of tech, this week we are talking about the food price index, a new internal aid charity campaign, fancy offices and dogs! Tech for Good Live pod regular Greg Ashton joins host Fay Schofield and our special guest this week is Louise Pavoni, Digital Engagement Manager at Leukaemia UK. Discussed in this episode: Stat of the week The CPI and the retail price index (RPI) are used interchangeably to document the rising price levels of groceries and household goods across the UK. Yet they only tell a fragment of the story of inflation, and grossly underestimate the true cost-of-living crisis. In 2012, 10 stock cubes from Sainsbury's Basics range were 10p. In 2022, those same stock cubes are 39p, but only available in chicken or beef. The cheapest vegetable stock cubes are, inexplicably, £1 for 10. Hello nerds! Welcome to another episode of the Tech for Good Live podcast. It's a podcast all about using technology to have a positive social impact. It's fun, it's friendly, it's frustrating but it's always super professional and polished. Our one regular listener will know that was actually a hilarious joke. In this episode we are talking about far right people continuing to be awful. Charities are demanding that they have a charity commissioner that is neither politicised or you know, evil. And, in news that will surprise everyone, Facebook are awful, harmful, and doing it knowingly, rather than just due to incompetence, so says a whistleblower. Welcome to the Tech for Good Live podcast! This is a weekly show all about how technology can, should, but often isn't, used to have a positive impact on the world. In this episode, we are talking about how a Swiss student has demonstrated Twitter's algorithm is biased (shocker), the UK is full of ageists, social media is going to be used to vet gun ownership and McBoatyMcBoatFace may be knocked off the best named boat spot, as the ‘Flying Farage' is gaining traction to become a reality. Hello and welcome to the hellmouth. This is an episode of the Tech for Good Live podcast – a show all about using technology to do social good. In this episode we are peeking behind the curtain of TikTok's algorithm. For those listeners who are Bex's age, TikTok is a social media product, and not a tiny mint that provides up to two hours of freshness. We're talking about the RNLI team getting some grief from losers and haters. And we're talking about Pegasus. Not the winged horse that we all know and love, but instead about those awful men who are probably listening to everything we say. No, not Instagram, the other awful men. Joining host Bex in this fight against evil we have TFGL team members Greg Ashton and Fay Schofield. And we have a return guest with us! Welcome back to another episode of the Tech for Good Live podcast! We’ve a lot to talk about this week, including: The planned “Instagram for Children” spin-off seems to have been scrapped by Facebook. That’s good, but surprising news, because Instagram has always been indifferent about the harm they cause kids, so let’s see what happens there. Big tech and the incoming anti-trust action. That sounds incredibly boring, but we’ll try to keep it fun. And a really concerning “innovation” in prison tech. Joining host Bex on the show this week we have TFGL team members Fay Schofield and Ankur Asthana. And our special guest is Ross McCulloch, Director of Third Sector Lab who specialise in digital strategy & service design for charities. He is the founder Digital Trustees Scotland - a movement which aims to get a tech professional on every charity board. Ross developed and facilitates the highly-successful SCVO Digital Senior Leaders Programme. He also runs the CharityComms Scotland Networking Group and Third Sector Geeks WhatsApp Group to help strengthen the charity digital community. A lot has happened this week. Jonny made some delicious white chocolate and cranberry cookies and went on a wintery hike in the hills. Trump got banned from Twitter, and everywhere else, oh – and there was a deadly attempted coup in the United States. Yep. It’s been a week. Technology and the role it plays in society has perhaps never been under more scrutiny than it is now. We are talking about using technology for good and technology in the non-profit sector. Fay shares her experience in the industry and shares her valuable insights into the role social media plays into organizational agendas, how risk is being taken, and whether experimentation is embraced by others in the field. Challenges facing non-profits include incorporating online transacting for fundraising and diversifying communications methods for members. As an experienced social media strategist, Fay has learned over the years how to mobilize supporters, raise money, and move the media, the public, and decision makers to help nonprofits achieve real and lasting change.
