In this episode, Gregg, Ron, And Dave analyze the Trump/Zelensky meeting. Using the Wisdom Practice Model for guidance, the team focuses on what can we learn? To pause. To slow our emotions down. To run the events through our personal self-reflection, stories, and examples.A. Psychological aspects of Zelensky's meeting with TrumpThis analysis has been circulating online regarding the psychological aspects of Zelensky's meeting with Trump, conducted using ChatGPT. From this analysis, we witnessed gaslighting, manipulation, and coercion on the part of Trump. Key points:1. Blaming the victim for their own situationTrump tells Zelensky: “You have allowed yourself to be in a very bad position.” This is classic abuser rhetoric—blaming the victim for their suffering. 2. Pressure and coercion into ‘gratitude'Vance demands that Zelensky say “thank you.” This is an extremely toxic tactic—forcing the victim to express gratitude for the help they desperately need, only to later accuse them of ingratitude if they attempt to assert their rights.3. Manipulating the concept of ‘peace'Trump claims that Zelensky is “not ready for peace.” However, what he actually means is Ukraine's capitulation. This is a classic manipulation technique—substituting the idea of a just peace with the notion of surrender.4. Refusing to acknowledge the reality of warTrump insists that Zelensky has “no cards to play” and that “without us, you have nothing.” This is yet another abusive tactic—undermining the victim's efforts by asserting that they are powerless without the mercy of their ‘saviour.'5. Devaluing the victims of war“If you get a ceasefire, you must accept it so that bullets stop flying and your people stop dying,” Trump says. Yet, he ignores the fact that a ceasefire without guarantees is merely an opportunity for Russia to regroup and strike again.6. Dominance tacticsTrump constantly interrupts Zelensky, cutting him off: “No, no, you've already said enough,” and “You're not in a position to dictate to us.” This is deliberate psychological pressure designed to establish a hierarchy in which Zelensky is the subordinate.7. Forcing capitulation under the guise of ‘diplomacy'Vance asserts that “the path to peace lies through diplomacy.” This is a classic strategy where the aggressor is given the opportunity to continue their aggression unchallenged.8. Projection and distortion of realityTrump declares: “You are playing with the lives of millions of people.” Yet, in reality, it is he who is doing exactly that—shifting responsibility onto Zelensky.9. Creating the illusion that Ukraine ‘owes' the USYes, the US is assisting Ukraine, but presenting this aid as “you must obey, or you will receive nothing” is not a partnership—it is financial and military coercion.10. Undermining Ukraine's resistanceTrump states that “if it weren't for our weapons, this war would have ended in two weeks.” This is an attempt to erase Ukraine's achievements and portray its efforts as entirely dependent on US supportB. In 1915, Marcel Duchamp bought a snow shovel at a hardware store in New York City. He inscribed his signature and the date on its wooden handle. On the evening this episode is released, the fourth version of this classic “ready-made,” which he titled “In Advance of the Broken Arm,” will be auctioned off at Christie's during their 20th Century Evening Sale. It's estimated to sell for $2 million to $3 million. How could a simple snow shovel be valued at such a steep price? Was Duchamp an unmatched genius, or a product of some of the biggest museums' dirtiest little secrets: the results of pure, unadulterated capitalism?Northeastern University professor, essayist, poet, and editor Eunsong Kim has illuminated the underlying influences of industrial capitalism and racism behind some of the most prized museum collections in her new book, The Politics of Collecting: Race and the Aestheticization of Property. She traces how Duchamp was brought to prominence through the patronage of collectors Louise and Walter Arensberg, heirs of a fortune wrought by the steel industry. Their family operated steel mills in the same setting as titans such as Andrew Carnegie and Henry Clay Frick, whose wealth also underlies their own valuable art collections. And as it turns out, the “death of the author,” celebrated in conceptual art like that of Duchamp, is a convenient idea for the ultrawealthy. Devaluing labor pairs well with violent crackdowns on striking workers to deny them adequate pay. Or even Frederick Winslow Taylor's development of “scientific management,” a system that is still cited today but is based on the idealization of the slave plantation. How much of the Modernist archive was canonized by union-busting bosses? How much of conceptual art in the 20th and 21st centuries has been buoyed by the reverence of scientific management? In this episode, Editor-in-chief Hrag Vartanian sits down to talk with Kim about her new volume, which challenges generations of unquestioned received knowledge and advocates for a new vision of art beyond cultural institutions. In the process, they discuss the craft of writing, how a White artist was counted as a Black artist at the 2014 Whitney Biennial, and how Marcel Duchamp got away with selling bags of air.Subscribe to Hyperallergic on Apple Podcasts, and anywhere else you listen to podcasts.—Subscribe to Hyperallergic NewslettersBecome a member

Explore the often misunderstood world of narcissism with guest therapist Shannon Petrovich on The Light Inside. Discover the signs of narcissistic abuse, the impact of toxic relationship patterns, and strategies for healing. Gain insights on navigating the fine line between love and manipulation in narcissistic relationships. Key Topics of Discussion: Toxic Behaviors in Narcissistic Relationships Love bombing, gaslighting, and devaluing are toxic behaviors commonly seen in narcissistic relationships. Love bombing involves overwhelming a partner with excessive affection and praise to manipulate and control them. It is crucial to recognize that love bombing is a manipulative tactic, not genuine love. Gaslighting manipulates a partner's perception of reality by denying their experiences, leading to confusion and self-doubt. Devaluing undermines a partner's self-worth through criticism and belittlement, aiming to exert power and control. We explore why healing from narcissistic relationships involves healthy ego development, rebuilding a sense of self, setting boundaries, and prioritizingconscious-care. Understanding the difference between healthy esteem and narcissism is crucial. Tune in to uncover the truth behind these complex dynamics and find a path to healing. Episode 317 features guests Megan L. Schnitker, an Indigenous Traditional Herbalist and Niha Elety, a fashion advocate, designer, chef, and storyteller. Megan is the owner of Lakota Made LLC, who offer plant medicinals and personal care products. Niha is the founder and CEO of fashion brand, Tega Collective, a brand that co-creates with Adivasi (Indigenous) communities celebrating their craft and knowledge with each collection. “American herbalism was founded on Indigenous knowledge and use of all the plants that are in North America. And so, American herbalism is founded on Indigenous women's knowledge, Indigenous storytellers' knowledge. And we're very rarely credited for giving colonizers that knowledge. I credit the herbalists that saved a lot of that knowledge and are using it and kept it alive, but it came from Indigenous people, it came from Indigenous women, it came from Indigenous medicine; it came from us.” -Megan “The history of fashion production for centuries has been by women primarily. I'm from India, so in India, there's large groups of artisans and garment workers and weavers, and a majority of the population that are in those kinds of professions are women. And over the years, I would say with the industrialization of textile production and all of that, men often became the heads of big fashion companies that we see today. So, a lot of them have profited from knowledge that a lot of female artisans and designers have been creating for a long time.” -Niha MARCH THEME — Acknowledging The Confines of Gender & The Folks Disrupting Stereotypes One of the recurring themes our incredibly powerful guests shared this week is that for true sustainability to exist, we must go beyond commodification and capitalism to focus on consent, compensation, credit, collaboration and co-creation where the individual human is valued and respected, and where preserving culture is at the forefront. We question things like ownership and agency, and the power dynamics that play into who gets to decide what is deemed “fashion” or “medicine”. Who are the knowledge holders in fashion, wellness, herbalism & health spaces? Whose knowledge do we value? And what are the deep rooted reasons our society often doesn't give credit to certain genders and their intersectionalities? We learn that craft and wellness are embedded into the wisdom and intuitive ways of life for Indigenous people and cultures, from the Adivasi communities in South Asia to Indigenous people like the Lakota here in the U.S. And that by design, the erasure and extraction of female knowledge, the matriarchs of so many cultures, is a constant struggle. The solution is more than just words, it's the actions and uplifting and amplifying of Indigenous peoples, and the honoring of traditional ways that have real potential to impact systemic change. It's also in slowing down our everyday interactions and the way we share information and knowledge, in a way where we actually respect and pay homage to the origins of ideas. NOTE: Megan had to jump off our call to make it to her child's parent teacher conference, so we weren't able to hear her thoughts on our last question during the episode. We were thankful that she was able to send through her ideas on “how to slow down when everything feels fast” so we can share them with you here: I take time at least one day a week or one morning a week. I have nothing scheduled and I clean my house so I can sit in a clean house in silence. I sit there and look at all my family pictures on the walls, family that's passed on, good times, and sad times and I practice gratitude. Gratitude for everything I have, everything I receive and for the moments that brought me this far. If it's warm out (my fibromyalgia doesn't like cold), I'll go outside and drink a cup of tea or coffee in my backyard and listen to the sounds of nature, and just sit and practice gratitude for everything that brought me to that moment. I sit with the chaos of my kiddos and I smile and thank the universe / Tunkasila for sending me these amazing beings I get to mother, I thank my girls all the time for being who they are and teaching me so much and also bringing so much value to my life; without them, the motivation wouldn't be there. Before bedtime, I read my girls books, and as I read them this story, I cherish the moments before sleep and thank the universe for keeping me here and getting me here. -Megan Quotes & links from the conversation: Lakota Made Website Niha's Website Tega Collective's Website Follow Lakota Made on Instagram Follow Niha on Instagram

Angela is joined by Paul from Mindset Change UK, to discuss the key factors that prevent people from living their best lives and creating the changes they desire. Paul explains that conditioning from the past often holds people back, leading to self-sabotage and an upper limit problem. They delve into the importance of devaluing negative thoughts and programs, as well as the role of coaching in overcoming anxiety and achieving personal growth. They also explore the concept of self-love and the power of mindfulness in shifting mindset. KEY TAKEAWAYS Conditioning from the past often prevents people from living their best lives. Conditioning can occur at any age, not just during childhood. Anxiety is often caused by neglecting emotional and physical needs. Seeking help and coaching is important for personal growth and overcoming limitations. Focussing too much on the mind rather than the mind-body-heart connection can also lead to anxiety. Devaluing negative thoughts and programs is important in order to break free from them and create new, positive beliefs. BEST MOMENTS "We can have what's known as an upper limit problem. So some people get to a certain level when it comes to success and then they do everything they can to sabotage the hell out of it." "There is a lot of science talking about what we pick up conditioning-wise from our parents and adult caregivers as we were growing up." "The more we begin to devalue it and make it boring... the more quickly we change." "If you're not seeking help, you're falling into the trap of staying miserable. You're falling into the trap of struggling, which is another way of you not reaching your goals." Scientists, through genetic engineering, have grown an entity that closely resembles an early human embryo, without using sperm, eggs, or a womb. The methodology of manipulating a specific part of a DNA chain to change human embryos is based on flawed scientific reductionism, which ignores the complexity of biophysical reality and the fundamental laws of nature. We have truly entered a Brave New World, grappling with the morality of life and death in the age of medical technology. Devaluing life is now commonplace. Hour 3: We are getting ready for CBS Sports Network to join us after the soccer friendly they were airing wraps up. How can the Angels let Shohei Ohtani walk away as a free agent? Jerry says the Mets best hope of landing Ohtani long term is to trade for him and sell him on New York while he is here. Gio says the Dodgers can just sit back, wait and land Ohtani in free agency. If a team trades for Ohtani and loses him in free agency it would be one of the biggest trade busts ever. Will the Mets pursue Ohtani at some point? Is there a case for the Mets mostly running it back next year? CLo returns with an Ohtani highlight to beat the Yankees and Jerry notices his hair is getting grayer. Running backs have been devalued. Are wide receivers next? Gio says no way. Greg Olsen says there's a lot in the game of football that looks or sounds like penises. Is Joel Embiid just trolling everyone? A man on TikTok was not happy when his wife told him she is pregnant with their 4th child. Failed vasectomy stories. In the final segment of the hour, Bebe Rexha shared a text from her boyfriend on Instagram. He texted her that she gained weight after telling her the same in person. Jeff Passan broke his back.
