fWotD Episode 2408: White Horse (Taylor Swift song) Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Friday, 8 December 2023 is White Horse (Taylor Swift song)."White Horse" is a song by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and the second single from her second studio album, Fearless (2008). Big Machine Records released the track to US country radio on December 8, 2008. Swift wrote "White Horse" with Liz Rose and produced it with Nathan Chapman. An understated country pop ballad, the song is driven by a finger-picked guitar and includes piano and cello accents. The lyrics incorporate fairy-tale imagery of princesses and white horses: a narrator is heartbroken on realizing that her boyfriend is not an ideal figure like she thought, and in the end she leaves her town with hopes of finding somebody more worthy.Music critics lauded "White Horse" for what they deemed a somber production and a portrayal of universal feelings arising from heartbreak, but some found the lyrics uncreative. At the 2010 Grammy Awards, the track won Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. In the United States, the single peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the Hot Country Songs chart, and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it double platinum. The song also charted in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom; it received certifications in the first two countries.Trey Fanjoy directed the song's music video, which depicts Swift reliving memories with her ex-boyfriend and her discovery of his infidelity after having ended their relationship through a phone call. The video premiered on February 7, 2009, on CMT, and it became the first video to debut at number one on the network's countdown. Swift performed "White Horse" live at the 2008 American Music Awards, on her Fearless Tour (2009–2010), and on certain dates of her later tours. Following the 2019 dispute regarding the ownership of Swift's back catalog, she re-recorded the song as "White Horse (Taylor's Version)" for her 2021 re-recorded album Fearless (Taylor's Version). This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:01 UTC on Friday, 8 December 2023.For the full current version of the article, see White Horse (Taylor Swift song) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Stephen Neural.

On the eve of the third installment of Taylor Swift's re-recording project of her first seven studio albums, Speak Now (Taylor's Version), Switched on Pop's Charlie Harding, Rolling Stone's Larisha Paul and Every Single Album's Nora Princiotti join DJ Louie to break down how this singularly ambitious endeavor has gone so far. Has it achieved its commercial goals? What about its aesthetic ones? What are the differences? When it comes to Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version), is the panel choosing the TV or OG on their free time? As fans, are we obligated to choose Taylor's Versions? Which of her yet-to-be-re-recorded albums will be the most difficult to replicate? And does all of it— along with her new music, massive tour, "Cruel Summer" single release, various romantic endeavors and the rest— add up to too much Taylor? Today I start my great Swift Debate journey by breaking down these two iconic songs off of Fearless Taylor's Version!
This episode is part 2 to our discussion about Taylor Swift's most interesting album variants, limited editions and interesting releases. Last time we spoke about her country releases, this time we go through 1989, reputation, Lover, folklore, evermore, Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version). Although there is no longer such a large quantity of limited editions with slight track changes for all of these albums, most probably due to the rise of the streaming era, the growth of her fame and the change in musical landscape, there are new incentives that Taylor and her team begin to implement to make physical editions of her albums and vinyl appeal to collectors and the wider public alike. We discuss some of our favourite deluxe editions and box sets, the decline of special editions and the madness of having multiples of exactly the same album. We'd like to apologise for the shift in audio throughout the episode, some segments had to be re-recorded and of course have a different sound to them. We're going to be making changes very soon going forward to avoid this happening again. Until then, thank you for bearing with us!
Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. Her discography spans multiple genres, and her narrative songwriting—often inspired by her personal life—has received critical praise and widespread media coverage. Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music. She signed a songwriting contract with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2004 and a recording deal with Big Machine Records in 2005, and released her eponymous debut studio album in 2006.Swift explored country pop on the albums Fearless (2008) and Speak Now (2010); the success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me" on both country and pop radio established her as a leading crossover artist. She experimented with rock and electronic genres on her fourth studio album, Red (2012), supported by the singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble". Swift eschewed country on her synth-pop album 1989 (2014) and its chart-topping tracks "Shake It Off", "Blank Space", and "Bad Blood". The media scrutiny on Swift's life inspired Reputation (2017), which drew from urban sounds. Led by "Look What You Made Me Do", the album made Swift the only act in MRC Data history to have four albums each sell over a million copies in a week.Parting ways with Big Machine, Swift signed with Republic Records in 2018 and released her seventh studio album, Lover (2019). Inspired by escapism during the COVID-19 pandemic, Swift ventured into indie folk and alternative rock styles on her 2020 studio albums, Folklore and Evermore, receiving plaudits for their nuanced storytelling. Following a dispute over the masters of her back catalog, she released the 2021 re-recordings Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version) to universal acclaim. The number-one songs "Cardigan", "Willow" and "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" made Swift the only act to simultaneously debut atop the US Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts three times. Besides music, she has played supporting roles in films such as Valentine's Day (2010) and Cats (2019), released the autobiographical documentary Miss Americana (2020), and directed the musical films Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions (2020) and All Too Well: The Short Film (2021).With over 200 million records sold worldwide, Swift is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Eight of her songs have topped the Hot 100, and her concert tours are some of the highest-grossing in history. She has received 11 Grammy Awards (including three Album of the Year wins), an Emmy Award, 34 American Music Awards (the most for an artist), 29 Billboard Music Awards (the most for a woman) and 58 Guinness World Records, among other accolades. She has featured on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time (2015), Billboard's Greatest of All Time Artists (2019), the Time 100 and Forbes Celebrity 100 rankings. Having been honored with titles such as Woman of the Decade and Artist of the Decade, Swift is regarded as a pop icon due to her influential career, philanthropy, and advocacy for artists' rights and women's empowerment.
Hello friends, we are back from our little hiatus with more Tea & Squee! For the next couple of weeks we will be discussing our favorite musician and pop culture icon: Taylor Swift. Since we'll be discussing her work in chronological order, these first two parts we'll be discussing Country Taylor (the episodes will be posted simultaneously). All in all during this series we'll be talking about Taylor's respective albums, her re-records, how Easter Eggs work, and our general thoughts and feelings on her songs. A kind reminder that art is subjective and we all interpret differently! So in Part One of Country Taylor, we are discussing Taylor's origins as an artist and her original roots in country/pop. We give opinions on her first album titled: Taylor Swift and do the same for Fearless and Fearless Taylor's Version. While covering Taylor's Versions we talk about the major differences between the old version and the new version, and our favorite vault tracks! We'll see you shortly for Part Two of Country Taylor! That episode will be featuring our fun, Zillenial Quiz Taking Time. This podcast is edited and produced by Guin & Alyssa. Our cover art is done by Laker Thrasher.
To celebrate the recent anniversary of Taylor's first re-recording, Fearless (Taylor's Version) we deep dive into the six vault tracks included on the album. We go through each song one by one looking back at their history, the demos we previously knew of prior to last year and the changes that they went through before finding a home on the full version of Fearless. While nobody had previously heard Mr. Perfectly Fine and Don't You, we do know the minor changes that were made to You All Over Me and We Were Happy. We also know of the major interesting changes That's When and Bye Bye Baby went through, including a perspective change and an entire rework that saddened some fans to see The One Thing completely scrapped.

Welcome to season 3 of The Lavender Menace! Today we are forgoing our typical three part structure to complain about recent allegations, internet happenings, online battles... Sunny is in their reputation era again, thanks to overly online bisexuals accusing Sunny of being overly online while flooding them with violent online harassment. As Sunny's number one defender (and number one hater,) Renaissance talks about the overwhelming whiteness involved with people getting angry over lesbians speaking the obvious. We reference season 1 episode 4 throughout this episode, so if you haven't listened to that one yet, you should do that! We talk about how lesbophobia is the legitimate unique amalgamation of systemic oppression people seem to think biphobia is, and break down every single talking point we've been seeing floating around due to the accidental launching of this round of LGBTQ discourse. Renaissance discusses how the internet phenomenon of hating on reading theory and complex, necessary vocabulary usage is frustrating as hell, we rant about the ridiculousness of accusing Sunny being a TERF or transphobic in their talking points, and how nothing Sunny or Renaissance said was wrong. Much love to our listeners who've supported us through the insanity of the past several weeks of getting collectively dogpiled on. Thank you so much to our Patreon patrons as well, we appreciate you so much. If you want the Patreon exclusive video edition of this episode where you can see Sunny wear their Taylor Swift official merch folklore shirt (which is pictured in this episode's cover art, as well as Renaissance's painting of The Lavender Menace logo on a tote bag, and screen caps of the shit we've been going through...) and drink copious amounts of tea in between yelling, cackling, and ranting, go subscribe! The first rerelease has dropped, and so have literally hundreds of our takes. We're breaking down the first 20 tracks, covering all of the previously released songs through the lens of our own history with each song and the new meaning imbued by Taylor re-recording. Sidebars this week: Chewbacca costumes, hawk sounds, God as camp, fruit gummies from Costco, and ASMR. And, obviously, Gaylor.
