25 years to learn. 40 years to earn. And if you're lucky — 13 years to yearn. Once you see that math, you can't unsee it.Session three of the Back to School (of Midlife) series. This week, Laurie lays out the three seasons of life — Learn, Earn, Yearn — on a simple timeline from zero to 80, using the average U.S. female life expectancy of 78.8 years as the anchor. The math is blunt: 25 years learning, 40 years earning, and only about 13 years left to yearn — and that's if you're lucky, since that number is actually decreasing, not increasing. She calls it one of the biggest grifts sold to high achievers: give your most vital, vibrant years to climbing the ladder, and get a shorter, less certain stretch at the end as your reward. She brings in Bill Perkins' Die With Zero and its health/time/money framing — good health and time but no money in the first third, health and money but no time in the second, and money and time but no guaranteed health in the third — to make the same point from a different angle. Then she tells the story of her Dad: retired on his 66th birthday after 48 years of work, moved back to Boise, had real, specific plans for retirement, and he never got the chance to live out those retirement dreams. The episode closes with this week's assignment: identify one thing you've been deferring to your "someday" Yearn season, and find a way to move it into your Earn season now — the same thing Laurie's doing with her own upcoming France trip. What we cover:The three seasons of life, laid out on a simple zero-to-80 timelineWhy the math changes once you use the real average life expectancy (78.8, and declining) instead of assuming a full "65 to 80"The "grift" framing — why trading your most vital years for a shorter, less certain retirement is a bad dealBill Perkins' Die With Zero and his health/time/money breakdown of the three phases of lifeWhy health is the one resource in that equation nobody can guarantee, no matter how well you planLaurie's dad's story — 48 years of work, five months of retirement, and the retirement dreams he never got toThe reframe: you don't have to wait for the Yearn season to start living like your life mattersA BEST LIFE Retreat client who moved up her own retirement date by five years after doing this workLaurie's own example: finally taking the France trip she's talked about for five years, instead of deferring it againThe "must be nice" reaction some women have when they hear about the trip — and why that reaction is worth examiningThis week's assignment: do your own version of the math, name one thing you've been deferring to "someday," and move it into your Earn season nowA preview of next week: the Curiosity, Clarity, Courage, Confidence framework — the actual mechanics of how this work happensQuotable moments"Once you see it laid out, you won't be able to unsee it.""I think this is one of the biggest grifts sold to high achievers.""Why should we spend forty to sixty hours a week at work during our most vital life years?""He got five months of his Yearn years. Most of us would fire our contractor building our dream home if she tried to make the plans conform to "specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound." So why do we do that to our own lives?Session two of the Back to School (of Midlife) series. If last week was orientation, this is the core curriculum — the actual framework behind everything Laurie coaches: BEST LIFE™.She starts by naming the pushback she hears constantly — "I'm not a high achiever" — and dismantles it directly: if you've ever solved a problem nobody asked you to solve, put yourself last on the list, or believed your rest had to be earned, you're a high achiever, whatever your job title says. From there she walks through the two real reasons she built BEST LIFE™: the goal-chasing problem (achieving the goal without ever asking what you actually wanted, and feeling empty anyway), and her long-standing issue with SMART goals as personal-life advice. The dream house metaphor she opened with threads through the entire back half — you wouldn't build a house without a plan for what you actually want to live in, so why are you building a life that way? Then she breaks down BEST LIFE™ letter by letter — BEyond your wildest dreams, Success on your terms, Truly want, so you can build a LIFE of Legacy, Impact, Fulfillment, and Excitement — with homework at the end: pick one letter, write down what it actually means to you. What we cover:Why Laurie built BEST LIFE™ for two specific reasons, not oneThe "I'm not a high achiever" pushback, and why she doesn't let anyone off the hook for itThe success playbook checklist — school, job, marriage, kids, house, promotion, retirement — and why finishing it doesn't always feel the way you expectWhy chasing the right goal without checking in with yourself first still leaves you emptyWhat changes when clients do the foundational work first — what do you want, what does success mean, what does your best life look likeLaurie's own story: 20 years in commercial real estate and brokerage before she became "student one" at the School of MidlifeWhy the SMART goals framework is excellent for a sales quarter and terrible for a marriage or a health goalA closer look at two SMART letters specifically — Attainable and Time-Bound — and why Laurie thinks both are the wrong filter for your personal lifeThe dream house metaphor, used to explain why you plan a life the same way you'd plan a home: you can't hand someone the blueprints until you know what you wantBE: Beyond your wildest dreams — letting yourself want something big before your brain talks you out of itS: Success on your terms — redefining success outside of money and job title, specific to this season of lifeT: What you truly want — stripping away everyone else's opinion, including a nod to that scene in The NotebookLIFE: Legacy, Impact, Fulfillment, and Excitement — including the generational angle: what your daughters and sons learn by watching how you liveThis week's homework: pick one letter, write down what it actually means to you — not a dictionary definition, the real oneA preview of next week: the three seasons of life — Learn, Earn, Yearn — and why waiting for the last one is a bad betQuotable moments"You have to remember, I was student one at the School of Midlife.""If there is a problem in your life, more often than not, you're the one who solved it, even when nobody asked you to.""I don't care if you get there. When we talk about attainable and achievable, I want you to make it so big — wildest dreams big.""If this is something you genuinely want... who cares how long it takes?""You have to stop trying to make everybody happy and start living a life that is true to you.""If, like, none of it excites you, it's probably someone else's goal or dream that you've just adopted.""This is not just some rosy saying that should make you feel good. There is intentionality behind this."Resources + links mentionedEpisode 186 — Orientation Day: When Being a High-Achiever Isn't Enough (Back to School [of Midlife] series, session one)Best Life PlannerJOIN MY MAILING LISTCONNECT WITH LAURIE

Staypineapple Hotels President Dina Belon joined us for Friday Night Audit, and within minutes we were talking about underground printer-paper markets, retired Peabody ducks and why her early Google results once featured photos from the Playboy Club. So, pretty much a standard Friday Night Audit. Craig Sullivan and Dr. Producer Suzanne Bagnera were along for the ride, while I broadcast from EPCOT, questioned ducks about their employment history and went five-for-five on a Phish quiz. After more than 200 shows, I would've been embarrassed if I missed one. Dina also had plenty to say about what Staypineapple is doing with AI, guest experience, technology and those famous pineapple chunks.

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes Party Favorz is back with the third installment of Club Taylor [Platinum Edition], continuing our complete overhaul of the original Taylor Swift remix series while pushing these final two volumes into entirely new territory. Expanding Beyond the Original Club Taylor The first two volumes leaned more heavily into the progressive, tribal and circuit-inspired sounds commonly associated with LGBTQ dance culture and festivals, while Volumes 3 and 4 expand into a broader modern dance spectrum that incorporates sweeping EDM, Progressive House, Dubstep, Future House, NuDisco and melodic crossover remixes geared toward hardcore Taylor fans looking for something beyond the expected club formula. Rebuilding the Series From Scratch As we started rebuilding these sets from scratch, it quickly became obvious that trying to force everything into one giant mix wasn't working. Even with strong remixes, too many songs began blending together after repeated listening. Taylor's songwriting style is so recognizable that placement and sequencing became just as important as the songs themselves. That's ultimately why this project evolved into four distinct volumes instead of simply updating the original release. Many of the strongest remixes from the original Club Taylor were already doing exactly what they needed to do, so they remained untouched. Others were replaced with alternate versions that better fit the atmosphere and flow of these newer volumes. In several cases, lesser-known remixes ultimately worked better than the bigger or more obvious choices because they allowed the songs to breathe naturally instead of overwhelming them with unnecessary production tricks. That approach helped shape the overall identity of the final two volumes. A More Modern Dancefloor Experience Tracks from 1989, Reputation, Lover, Red, Speak Now, Folklore, Midnights, The Tortured Poets Department and The Life of a Showgirl all coexist here, but they do so through a much broader modern dance lens than the earlier volumes. Songs like “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” “Bad Blood,” “Karma,” “Cruel Summer,” “The Fate Of Ophelia” and “Opalite” naturally pushed the set deeper into melodic EDM and atmospheric territory, while classics like “Out Of The Woods,” “Ready For It,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” “Wildest Dreams,” “You Belong With Me” and “Shake It Off” helped anchor the larger club energy throughout the mix. At the same time, some songs simply didn't survive the rebuild process. A few remixes stayed too close to the original productions, while others disrupted the pacing or emotional momentum we were trying to create. Even fan favorite mashups were cut if they didn't contribute something unique to the overall listening experience. In the end, these final two volumes became less about creating a straightforward Taylor Swift remix collection and more about building a long-form dance experience that evolves from beginning to end without exhausting the listener. Party Favorz really pushed itself creatively on these final two volumes and we hope fans can appreciate the time and effort that went into creating them. We'll be back Saturday with the final volume where we diverge a bit and have something to say about what's happening in the United States at the moment. Until the next time...ENJOY! God's response to Peter's faith was not a few fish. Nor even a good catch of fish. It was a haul of fish that was more than he could have ever imagined! So many that the nets were breaking, and they needed help bringing them in. Peter discovered what we all need to discover: You can't limit God. Because no matter how big you can imagine, God can do MORE!

Your wildest dreams and your worst nightmares can absolutely happen at the same time, and I'm living proof. I'm back for Season 7 with a real-time debrief of the last six months of 2025: recovering from endometriosis excision surgery, navigating chronic inflammation, and trying to rebuild my nervous system while still leading a fast-moving women-owned brand. If you've ever felt like your body, brain, and business were all asking for attention at once, this one will hit home.I also take you behind the scenes of the Woman Owned Wallet show pilot, from the joy of filming to the cracks that showed up in editing and communication. The hardest moment? Hosting a premiere party without having seen the final cut first. We talk creative control, boundaries, and what it means to show up in full integrity even when you're scared, overstimulated, or unsure how things will land. Then we zoom out to what's next: the Woman Owned Wallet Tour and the idea that spending is community investment. I share why I'm reframing “customers” as community investors, how we're mapping women-owned businesses in Louisville, Kentucky, and why financial wellness starts with where you choose to put your dollar. You'll also hear about Penny the Piggy Bank, our new children's book built to teach money mindset early, plus the growth of Pinkmas Bash and what it takes to design events with real care. Finally, I tell the truth about closing the WoW storefront: the relief, the grief, the safety issues, the construction losses, and the identity shift of stepping away from retail. Hello Beautiful, I'm so grateful you're here with me.
"I don't want you like a best friend." What happens when we view Taylor Swift's music through the lens of Regency era romance? In this week's Show & Tell episode, we explore Taylor Swift's songs through Shonda Rhimes's Netflix adaptation of Julia Quinn's “Bridgerton” novels to uncover how Taylor's songs capture the tension, longing, and swoony moments that define the series. From secret romances in crowded rooms to enemies-to-lovers slow burns, we connect three iconic Bridgerton couples to Taylor Swift songs that perfectly capture their love stories. Whether you're Team Daphne and Simon, obsessed with Kate and Anthony, or rooting for Colin and Penelope, this episode has something for every Bridgerton fan. As the City Cast team wraps up a wild year of covering the highs and lows in our city, we're all (yes, all five of us!) sitting down with our scissors and gluesticks to put together a vision board for Las Vegas in 2026. This week, we're talking about living your wildest dreams and becoming the person you've always wanted to be. The launching point comes from a moment caught during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade — a little boy in a full Spider-Man suit watching the giant Spidey balloon being inflated from a fire escape, absolutely lost in awe. It's a picture of innocence, possibility, and the belief that someday you could be something incredible. We want to explore that feeling — the way childhood dreams once lit us up inside — and ask what it looks like to recapture that wonder as adults. Are God-given dreams still calling us forward? Have we traded imagination for practicality? And how does faith shape what we dare to become? This episode will mix personal stories, nerd-culture inspiration, spiritual insights, and honest conversation about how to dream big again and pursue the person God created us to be.
"Proudly Made: A Story of Reinvention in the Big Woods and Small Towns of the Pennsylvania Wilds" is a manual for postindustrial communities looking to leverage nature-based tourism for economic development. But it's much more than that -- it's also the story of author Ta Enos's journey from rural northwestern Pennsylvania to the world beyond, and the vision that brought her back home to help reinvent the region. We talk with the PA Wilds Center for Entrepreneurship founder and director about her memoir, recently recognized with the Governor's Keystone Award.

In this session, we use the Africana Studies Framework to reflect on continuities and disruptions in US and global Social Structures and how thinking in and with Africana Governance formations must lead to rejuvenating and sharing connections between memory, ritual and vision. How do we move beyond distractions to embrace ancestral wisdom in order to renew and best utilize our genealogies? Gleaning insight from a variety of past and immediate experiences, this session asks, are we the embodiment of dreams and sacrifices that made our lives possible? Should that even be a guiding question? What are or should we be focused on to do in these times of collapse, reformation and potential renegotiation?JOIN KNARRATIVE: https://www.knarrative.com it's the only way to get into #Knubia, where these classes areheld live with a live chat.To shop Go to:TheGlobalMajorityMore from us:Knarrative Twitter: https://twitter.com/knarrative_Knarrative Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/knarrative/In Class with Carr Twitter: https://twitter.com/inclasswithcarrnSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

POP-UP EPISODE!! Have you ever failed at something only to discover that failure was exactly what you needed to succeed beyond what you thought possible? After missing my qualifying time in my 50-mile race in April, I could have given up. Instead, I floated through summer while focusing on one specific weakness—running uphill—and found myself toeing the line at my first 100k ultramarathon. What happened over those 62 miles and 10 loops taught me lessons that go far beyond running, lessons about pain, presence, and the power of staying exactly where you are even when everything hurts. In this episode, you'll hear: The mindset shift that transforms pain from a permanent state to a temporary teacher Why "staying here" in the present moment is the secret to pushing through the hardest parts of any challenge How my "failure" at 50 miles became the exact preparation I needed for this success The practice of being in the flow—neither rigid nor chaotic—that carried me through 62 miles What happened when I asked my mom for the time and realized I was achieving something I never thought possible This isn't just a race recap—it's a story about how our biggest setbacks prepare us for our wildest successes, and how presence, not perfection, is what carries us across every finish line in life. Whether you're a runner, a yoga teacher, or anyone pursuing a meaningful goal, these lessons will change how you approach challenge, pain, and possibility. Tommy and Ben discuss the seismic shift in US foreign policy that happened this past week after Trump announced that the US and Russia would directly negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine through talks that exclude Ukraine and Europe. They also explain how JD Vance's first foreign trip insulted nearly every leader in Europe while boosting Germany's far-right AfD party ahead of Germany's election this Sunday, how support for a crypto scam has become a major political liability for the president of Argentina, the continued fallout from USAID cuts, the latest on the Gaza ceasefire, and intelligence leaks about a potential Israeli military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. Then, Ben speaks to Max Seddon, Moscow Bureau Chief for the Financial Times, about how the flip flop in US foreign policy towards Russia is being greeted by the Kremlin.
