We're going to take a look at Julia Roberts' emotional plea for men to vote versus a sexually assaulted former Democrat. Remember when the VeggieTales creator came out and said that you can't follow the Sermon on the Mount and fight the culture wars? Weird… He's fighting a culture war right now. Imagine that. And, in an interview with Brett Baier, Kamala Harris is unable to defend her open borders obsession.Episode Links:Julia Roberts tells women that their life currently sucks. Women, therefore, must make the men in their lives vote for Kamala.  Only then will the little people be able to afford their rent and groceries. NEW: The Young Turks producer Ana Kasparian says she left the Democratic party after she was mol*sted by a homeless man with an er*ction in Los Angeles. Kasparian said she was shamed by liberals for stating that she felt fearful to leave her house after the incident.Telling word choice: Second Gentleperson Doug Emhoff calls the allegations that he hit his ex-girlfriend in the face “a distraction.” That's not a denial. Doug is a lawyer. His decision to pivot when asked about DV was a deliberate decision.Rev. Hoeun Lee of First United Church of Waterloo explains that hell is definitely not literal and that Jesus' violent rhetoric is reserved for those with a "narrow" understanding of the gospel of inclusion. That time Phil Vischer said a lot of evangelical pastors are Shepherds For Sale to the "petrochemical industry." "Pastors don't want to preach against fossil fuels when fossil fuels are paying the bills." These guys don't engage in culture wars, though…Bret Baier just ended Kamala Harris's campaign with the first question! There are so many clips I want to share, but Bret Baier saying, “I actually don't, what are you talking about,” was incredible. Welcome to The BRC & Friends Podcast where you will get to know activists, artists, academics, and adventurers who are committed to making the world a better place. In Episode 52, Bruce (he/him), along with co-host Laura Mariko Cheifetz (she/her) speaks with guest John Edgerton, lead pastor at First United Church of Oak Park, Illinois, and also the first white guest on the podcast since its reboot. Bruce begins by asking John and Laura, “What is something that you have no control over, but brings you joy.” But first, Bruce shares a personal update: he's completed his tenure as pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Palo Alto. Thanks to long Covid, he's taking a break but will still continue to podcast. John's church in Oak Park recently became a target of right-wing ire when the congregation launched a Lenten program called ‘fasting from whiteness' where they decided to only going to music composed by non-white composers. The news travelled far and wide — including to the UK, where it was covered by The Daily Mail — and John was at the receiving end of accusations of ‘reverse racism' and the decision was called ‘wokeness run amok'. You'll find out how Bruce got embroiled in all of this, waking up to a bunch of alerts on Google for his name. The hosts and guest also speak about Chicago's history of segregation and anti-racist activism, and how white-centredness can be extricated from Christian culture. Thanks for listening! Churches across America are failing in their mission

This week, another church made a horrible decision. It came out that First United Church in Oak Park, Illinois would fast from whiteness for Lent. Lent is a common tradition where something that is valuable in life is given up in order to draw closer to God.  Except the very act that this church is doing is going against the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not teach for the church to leave anyone out based on color, but that is exactly what this church is doing. In fact, if the church had been doing what it should have been doing for hundreds and thousands of years, we would probably not be having this conversation.  Instead, we find ourselves in the middle of churches who are more interested in playing woke social politics than they are in accomplishing their true mission: to spread the gospel.  The church in Oak Park wants to wear this as a badge of honor, but it should be a badge of disgrace. This is not sharing the love of God, the mission of the church, or anything in between. This is pandering to social causes that the church should not be doing. It is time for churches across America to get back to their true mission. They need to focus on spreading the gospel and sharing the love of God.
