Sacred Conversation with J.S. Park, hospital chaplain and author of the astoundingly profound and beautifully poetic book, As Long As You Need: Permission to Grieve. For many months, I have been excited to have and to share this conversation with you. J.S. feels, lives, speaks, and writes in a mystic poetry that moves me deeply and calls me back home to our sacredness within. In our conversation here, we celebrate our kindred childhood soul architecture; revel in what it means to find refuge in closets, under beds, and in the back seats of cars; draw a compassionate portrait of what it means to attend a dying; wander over the territories of Love, grief, and the spiritual First Space (aka third space, liminal space) of stillness and witness; and taste the fruit of the paths available to us for Joy's harvest. You may find J.S.'s work on Instagram at @jspark3000..Sacred Conversations are periodic episodes of my podcast in which I reach out to people whose work and life inspire me, and we simply have an old fashioned phone conversation. No video. No scripted, transactional, extractive, one-sided interview dynamic. Just two people with a care and curiosity for each other's journey, asking each other soulful questions, and enjoying the ancient, mutually healing art of listening deeply. Again, not an interview. A spiritual communion. The idea is for us to relax and enjoy an organic conversation, like over tea or breaking bread, and get to know each other along the way. . Sacred Conversations: Dr. Christopher Reed Shares Tips for More Meaningful Communication

Do you remember the last conversation you had that challenged your way of thinking or inspired you to act? A conversation that changed your mind, your heart, or maybe even your life?  To help us have more meaningful conversations more often, Father Dave welcomes Dr. Christopher Reed to the show.  Dr. Reed has a Ph.D.. in human communication and believes that dialogues that transform hearts and strengthen relationships are sacred and he shares a blueprint for having more meaningful interactions in his new book, “Sacred Conversations: How God Wants Us To Communicate.” Dr. Reed begins by explaining his “Sacred Conversations Model to Father Dave:” The model itself is laid out like an Ikea set of instructions, do step 1 before you do step 2 and the components are invitation, we can open ourselves to those invitations, we can open ourselves to the spirit, invite people into them. Intention, what is the aim of the conversation.  Inquiry, very powerful, Jesus was a master of inquiry.  Illumination and integration. And at the center, the sixth component is love. It all starts with love and compassion for the other person, the face of Christ that we see in them right in front of us. If we start with love, we can't go wrong.” RELATED: 7 Steps for Navigating Crucial Conversations Dr. Reed explains that part of the reason he wrote the book is because there are many secular books on having tough conversations, but there haven't been any simple, accessible, well-researched books on Catholic dialogue and how Christians should engage in dialogue with one another.  He says, “Sacred Conversations” is a “blending of science and Scripture” that can be used for all of life's moments.  Father Dave points out that the book is also drawing on the Word of God, sacred traditions and Jesus' model of living. Father Dave and Dr. Reed go on to discuss the chapter called “Rules of the Road” which highlights some of the rules of sacred conversations, like having compassion and not forcing a conversation. Father Dave asks about the rule, “follow through on your good intentions.” LISTEN: Jonathan Merritt on Sacred Language “Commit to the process,” Dr. Reed responds. “See it through. A sacred conversation is a ‘helping' conversation; it's a build-your-brother or- sister-up conversation…and so all other intentions beyond that should be questioned and reflected upon, and then once we commit to that ‘helping' or ‘seeking' conversation, follow the process through, see what emerges, ask for guidance (which is another rule).  Then, when we get to that moment of grace, follow it through - what do you want to do with that? What small steps could you take toward a better outcome, a better version of yourself, a better relationship? Father Dave wraps up by wondering what happens if the other person in the conversation doesn't want to give anything, “Doesn't it take two to tango?” he asks. “This is a conversational dance. It's like improvisational jazz,” Dr. Reed explains.  “But we have to learn how to play our scales before we can truly gracefully improvise together. You know, we have to learn the basic steps of a dance before we can, chacha and Samba and move fluently together.”

"We know that 93% of what is communicated in a conversation is non-verbal. That's a combination of our body language - Are we leaning in? Have we established eye contact? Have we put down our phone to signal to the other person that we're attentive? - so we have to be mindful of that as we prepare for sacred conversation," says Dr. Christopher Reed, author of the new book "Sacred Conversations: How God Wants Us to Communicate." Dr. Reed is a Christian, a husband and a human communication teacher, consultant and coach. Christopher says that the Holy Spirit led him to the work of Sacred Conversations. He began studying human communication in 1998 at Western Michigan University and completed his doctorate degree and gained postdoctoral experience as a consultant in the University of Michigan's Center for Research on Learning and Teaching. Today, his interest in human communication, relationships, organizational engagement and helping people discover and use their God-given talents is stronger than ever. His Sacred Conversations ministry is not just helping leaders, but everyone struggling to connect on a deeper level. This captivating new book reveals how everyday interactions can lead to spiritual growth, deeper connections and meaningful impact. My heart was deeply moved by this quiet, heartful conversation with Cole Arthur Riley, creator and curator of Black Liturgies (a project of The Center for Dignity and Contemplation), and author of the books This Here Flesh and the upcoming Black Liturgies:  Prayers, Poems, and Meditations for Staying Human. Cole shares her soulful work daily on Instagram. In our conversation we share about our kindred childhood experiences with silence, solitude, and finding our written and spoken voices. Together, we find commonality in the spiritual nature of our work and the use of language in soul service, and in how self-examination becomes more critical for us as we address systemic violence, oppression, and atrocities in the world. We also discuss the medicinal utility of addressing the root of human suffering, violence, and supremacy, rather than emphasizing surface-level social group categorizations.  Our conversation is at once very personal and very timely as we face and address the continuing reality of human crisis and faith as our way home.Sacred Conversations are periodic episodes of my podcast in which I reach out to people whose work and life inspire me, and we simply have an old fashioned phone conversation. She is a sacred dancer, poet, author, minister, doctor of psychology, therapist, professor, and currently the President of the American Psychological Association. This conversation is full of joy and laughter. We explore the gift of emotional honesty, the importance of physical embodiment, and the power of being true to yourself in a world that may often relate to you in oppressive ways. Dr. Thema and I both share naked stories of our journeying from trauma to truth, and we discuss how creative expression can help us to heal and return home to ourselves, particularly when the world is suffering in particularly intense ways. We have two guests today. One is Susan Swim, executive director of the Now I See A Person Institute, which she created in 2007 to provide therapy and counseling to kids, teens, adults, families and others who haven't found healing in the usual approaches to therapy and treatment. From its base in Los Angeles County, California, the Institute provides both in-person services, including equine therapy, and virtual sessions—and offers training as well.  An expert in collaborative dialogical practices, Susan Swim is also a researcher whose topics include family reunification, helping people recover from trauma after previously unsuccessful treatments, and process ethics—which she's described as “what is right and good for every client in therapy.”  She's also on the faculty of the Houston Galveston Institute, where she first started teaching in the early 1980s. In the past she worked for the Taos Institute and taught at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California. She's written extensively on many topics and is the former editor of the Journal of Systemic Therapies.  Our other guest today is the father of a daughter who was first hospitalized at age 13 and endured years of psychiatric treatment, diagnoses, drugs, and more hospitalizations before embarking on a path to healing at the Institute.  The father will remain anonymous.  *** Thank you for being with us to listen to the podcast and read our articles this year. And how moving more into my feminine, and Hayden in his masculine really helped to improve our relationship in many ways. A major part of this for us was how being a mum, and especially a single mum, put me more in my masculine. In this episode we share this realization. How we met and built our relationship as a blended family with my two children. We share traits and characteristics of the feminine and masculine to help release these global imbalances of toxic masculinity and address more harmony with the feminine energies. We talk about how learning about soul modes up-leveled our relationship and connectionWe shared some ways that helped us to get into the masculine and feminineWe talk about Tantric practices that we use We share a very personal, special practice called OM meditation that you can try with your partner.Check out the free course Hayden mentioned herehttps://instituteofom.com/Follow Spiritaul AF the podcast on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/spiritual_afthepodcast/Work with me www.pixiesteps.com.auTo purchase The Beauty By BB skincare range find my shop herehttps://businessbombshells.shop/?ref=Pixie

Panelists explore what it means to wield positive masculinity. Through scholarship and popular media, a generation of women are now able to express their identity in this modern world, an expression born of years of inequality and oppression toward women in America. These shifts have also changed the roles and expectations of men, who as a society are beginning to seek a method of critical thinking toward how they can express the kind of positive and healthy masculinity that popular culture tends to lack. As a result, many men feel uncertain about how they are expected to relate to women, each other, and themselves. Modern Manhood is a conversation between four male-identifying individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds sharing what they were taught as children about masculinity, what they’ve discovered as they’ve grown, and what they’re still trying to figure out.

Tonight's special guest is René Michele from Parrearra, Queensland, Australia, a life coach for women and an author ('Battle Scars Are Beautiful: From Victim To Victory'), who serves as NAASCA's Ambassador to Queensland Australia. René realized her life, and her family's life, would be very different had she not broken free of the crippling grip of addiction. For 26 years, starting at 10, René endured and overcame sexual, emotional and physical abuse, often in her own home and bed. She developed a drug and alcohol addiction, entered many violent relationships, experienced bankruptcy at 22, had two failed marriages and multiple attempts to take her own life. “My life, as the result of the abuse I suffered, left me carrying deep and insatiable shame and caused my life to spiral out of control,” she said. But she rebuilt herself, and out from the ashes arose a woman of purpose and determination to rise above the events that nearly killed her. René relates, “The remarkable turnaround for me was the birth of my first child, when I vowed to my new baby girl that her life would never mirror mine.” Currently an online transformation and empowerment coach, René is in discussions with socially responsible partners to roll out support evenings for women on the Sunshine Coast, called Sacred Conversations. “To empower, support and encourage other survivors and high-performing, alpha females, entrepreneurs and businesswomen in healing from childhood abuse and trauma,” she said. René is the founder and director of Renemichele.com and is a coach, keynote speaker, mentor, and mother.

Bryan unpacks a common misconception about how to establish a flourishing company culture; rather than developing policies and practices from on high and expecting results, it is necessary to look deeper into what a flourishing culture is based upon, the structures and processes. It requires a broadening of awareness on an individual level, this awareness makes decisions responsive to the emotional well being of the group as well as traditional business maneuvering. The specific practices designed to shape the culture are effective only when refined and resting atop the structures and process that form the culture of the company. Bryan’s insights into business success are based upon 30 years of management experience and they are profound; listen to learn about the proper use of “I” statements, the true definition of vulnerability and the emotional skills necessary for long term success. She was so busy doing her best to respond to what life brought to her that she brushed away the bigger questions of designing her life. But according to developmental theorists, she was right on schedule when in her early 40s something inside her started to change. Despite a successful career as a financial planner, Donna had this nagging sense “This is not what I’m meant to be doing” and it wouldn’t stop until she paid attention. She finally listened to that inner voice and created a life of purpose and meaning in her business Sacred Conversations™. As you move into this next stage of life, Donna will show you how sacred conversations can help you develop the confidence to share what is most deeply meaningful to you with family, friends, and your broader community—what she calls legacies of the heart.
