“I think you have to do what is kind of right for you and your soul,” says Palak Patel. In this episode, Lindsay Pinchuk talks with Palak, a culinary star who has made significant strides in the food industry. Palak shares her journey from leaving a stable corporate job to pursuing her passion for cooking, which led her to culinary school and eventually the Food Network. There, she competed on Chopped and emerged victorious, beat Bobby Flay, and became a finalist on Food Network Star Season 14.Palak's story highlights the impact of following your passion and the opportunities that arise from taking bold risks. She recounts key moments in her career, from her initial reluctance to compete on Chopped to how winning the show opened numerous doors. Despite setbacks like the pandemic disrupting her plans to open a restaurant in New York City's Hudson Yards, Palak continues to grow and adapt.Beyond her TV success, Palak is also an accomplished author. Her cookbook, “Food is Love: Plant-Based Indian-Inspired Recipes to Feel Joy and Connection,” reflects her deep connection to food and her cultural heritage. She emphasizes the importance of authenticity, staying true to one's values, and building a personal brand that aligns with one's beliefs. This episode of Dear FoundHer… explores the challenges and rewards of being a public figure in the culinary world, the importance of community, and the impact of meaningful partnerships. Palak's journey is a reminder that it's never too late to pursue your dreams and that the experiences and setbacks along the way add depth to your story.Quotes“Food is Love” represents the culmination of my entire relationship with food. When I began writing this book two years ago, I started to dig deep into what I wanted to bring to the cookbook. It is an extension of me and reflects the idea that food is one of the ultimate connectors in our lives—it's been that way since the dawn of time. Food is a beautiful way to get to know someone and express how you feel.” (12:55 | Palak Patel)“Whenever I'm looking at partnerships or long-term engagements with brands, it's definitely about alignment. It's similar to selling a service: does this match my value system? Does the brand align with the things that are important to me? And do we have similar goals?” (16:39 | Palak Patel) “Staying true to what you stand for and knowing what aligns with your guardrails and what falls outside of them is really important.” (19:30 | Palak Patel)Connect with Palak Patel:https://www.chefpalakpatel.com/https://www.instagram.com/chefpalak/Get on the Dear FoundHer... email list for more: https://lindsaypinchuk.myflodesk.com/foundherfridaysGrab some time with Lindsay to build and grow your business. Chef Aaron McCargo Jr.Take a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Chef Aaron McCargo Jr. Aaron was the winner of season 4 of The Next Food Network Star; a reality show competition on The Food Network. In this episode, we chat about what got Aaron into cooking in the first place, and what made him audition for this competition show. We also discuss how the show changed his life, and some of the behind the scenes secrets of his cooking show Dig Daddy's House; which ran for several seasons on The Food Network. Aaron tells stories about growing up in Camden, NJ, and some of the crazy antics he got into with his sister's Easy Bake Oven! Next we jump into Chef McCargo's very own line of The Spice & The Sauce, what he created them for, and where you can get them. Don't sleep on Aaron's cookbook: Simply Done, Well Done. We briefly touch on why he partnered with Fresenius Health Care, & The Family Dollar. Finally, the Big Daddy himself, tries not to cry while he tells me all about his non-profit: Play To Win. We aren’t sure what we want to talk about. How great of a chef David Rose is or how jacked he is. When it comes to cooking he’s world class. As a Food Network/TV personality he’s appeared as a finalist on Food Network Star (Season 13), cooking head to head with Bobby Flay and fielding praise from Giada de Laurentiis. He also regularly appears on Food Network, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Steve Harvey Show, Hallmark Home & Family, Pickler & Ben, HLN, Sisters Circle Live, Fox & Friends, local morning shows across the country, and as a celebrity chef judge for the CBS Chef's Classic. When it comes to being jacked he’s equally as qualified. The man looks like he hasn’t missed a workout. Ever. He’s on that “every damn day” program. In this episode of the Maximus Podcast we talk with Chef about weights, food, and what makes him tick. You won’t want to miss this episode. C-Welcome to Episode 25 of This Is Yu Podcast.C -This Is Carole Yu and Scott StewartThis Is Yu Podcast Music intro….C-You just heard a clip from Justin Warner’s show for Marvel called “Eat the Universe.” More on that later. But, first, today, taking inspiration from Justin and his quirky science meets food mashup world, we’re going to talk Molecular Gastronomy. Stay tuned to after the interview with Justin where we’ll actually step you through one of his super galactic recipes.S-Carole, I remember about ten years ago you bought Dara a molecular gastronomy kit for her to play around with. I think you got it on Amazon right? How did that come about as even an option?S- Today we welcome Justin Warner who burst onto the food scene by winning Season 8 of Food Network Star. What’s amazing is he’s totally self taught and has created a life full of creative and idiosyncratic food.C- I remember watching that season, and I was so blown away by his inventiveness. I think because he doesn’t have that formal training, his vision isn’t clouded by traditional ways to cook foods, and pair flavorings.S- We talk to Justin about his early competitive spirit when he was still in middle school in Maryland. Justin worked his way up through the front of house in restaurants, until he worked in NYC for Danny Meyer. He was a captain at The Modern which is a restaurant in the Museum of Modern Art.C- Justin then appeared on 24 hour restaurant battle on the Food Network in August 2010 and won with his brunch restaurant concept. Then, he got called back in 2012 to be on Alton Brown’s team on the 8th season of Food Network Star. He won, and that’s how his food media career took off.S- Around this same time, Justin had a restaurant called Do Or Dine, in Brooklyn, which paired unusual tastes together, like and caviar nachos, shishito with yuzu, wasabi, hickory and green tea, or venison wontons with Jarlsberg cheese.C- I remember we ate there with Dara, and Justin was super engaging and even sat down with us for half an hour talking about food TV competitions, since Dara had just finished her show on MasterChef Jr. I was dying over the fish and chips. It had an entire deep-fried fish that looked like it was swimming on top of a huge pile of fries. Mmmm, so mouthwatering. S- Justin has several cookbooks, and more to come and now has a partnership where he has done over 47 videos for Marvel Comics with his Eat the Universe cooking show. He represents as Marvel’s food expert at all the great comic conventions.C- Here you go, Take a listen…..C-Thank you so much to Justin for joining us in today’s conversation. It’s been so awesome to follow your career from restauranteur to Food Network Star to Marvel comics food expert.
