In today's episode, we continue our Pride month celebrations by digging one of our favorite horror entries with a complex relationship to LGBTQ themes... A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge! We discuss the film, it's legacy, the excellence of star Mark Patton, and more! And stay tuned for the Humanoids crew explorations of another film with a complex LGBTQ legacy, Hellraiser! Coming soon... Co-host(s): Andrew Flemming-Dunn (co-host of HFTDD) Mike Vaughn (founder of The Video Attic) Luna Minuit (co-host of HFTDD and The Goth and The Sloth) Andre Couture (HFTDD co-host and editor) Editor: Jeff Ewing
This week with Lauren out, Whitney and Blake (formerly of Midweek Matinee) sit down to talk about all the mind-boggling events that occur in the second installment of the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
Dragon on the Couch: The Dragon watched Plan B (Hulu) and highly recommends this sweet, funny movie about teenage female friendship and pregnancy avoidance. The Dragon also saw In The Heights (HBO, theatres), the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical movie that she thought was fine - didn't love it, didn't hate it. Berto on the Bed: Berto watched In the Heights as well, and felt similarly, he didn't love it but acknowledged it was not for him as a person that generally hates musicals. And Berto's gonna Berto, so he saw Jennifer's Body (Hulu), which he thought was a forgettable middling horror movie with an A list cast, and Thirst (Hulu), a Korean vampire movie starring the lead from Parasite, which he loved. Also mentioned: Scream Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street (AMC, Shudder), the documentary about the making of Nightmare on Elm Street 2. Dragon at the Movies: This week's deep dive was the Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, currently streaming on HBO.
Episode Notes This week, Dan and Andrew are joined by a special guest, Bryan, to discuss the classic black sheep (well, one of them at least?) of the Nightmare franchise, 1985's Freddy's Revenge. Find out more at https://primitivescrewheads.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

In this week's episode and in honor of Pride Month, we're discussing what the internet described as "the gayest horror movie of all time." It's the second entry into the "Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise, "Freddy's Revenge." Special topics for your consideration include: wanting to be good allies but also being mad at corporations, the concept of subtext (say it with me now, SUB-TEXT), generalized confusion about Freddy (is he a demon? a ghost? just a pest? Was he ever a school janitor? Is he both in dreams and the real world? Is it okay to just call him Fred?) and the power of love. Are you a fan of this franchise? Episode 4 covers the original, but you may also like the 4th film, Episode 121- "Dream Child," and the 3rd film, Episode 242- "Dream Warriors." Why cover a franchise in chronological order when you can do it this way and feign outrage about not understanding anything? Easily thee most underrated entry in the NOES franchise, and sue me if that's too bold of a statement... There's a rare final guy who can scream with the best of queens, there's a possession film at hand, there's strange occurrences, there's broken franchise rules, and there's a very scary and intimidating Freddy. What's not to love here? Enjoy, people.

In this episode, hosts Katherine Troyer and Anthony Tresca discuss the 1985 film A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. Episode Highlights: Using queer theory as a framework, we explore whether this film should be considered transgressive or homophobic (the short answer: "it's complicated"), look at how issues in the third act muddy the film's themes, and talk about the difference between reading this film as a text and reading it as a cultural artifact. A Dose of Scholarship: Many scholars (including Adam Scales and Connor Kaminski) have worked to situate this particular film within a queer theory framework; however, for a more general introduction to queer theory in film, we recommend Outtakes: Essays on Queer Theory and Film, edited by Ellis Hanson. It's time for another edition of "film Fridays", and on today's show, we're discussing whats been considered one of the queerest, and arguably unintentionally, subversive, mainstream horror films ever: A Nightmare on Elm Street 2- Freddy's revenge! It came out very quickly after the success of the first film, and let's just say the speed to release really shows. I had a blast with my guest co-host, Devyn Ray, as we dove into all of the truly wild details of this film, in the "Elm Street" series. There's discussion of the Meryl Streep lookalike (honestly it was distracting), the homoerotic subtext, the BDSM death scene, and of course the psycho bird. Also, why didn't Mark get to kiss the hot guy! Bummer! Well let's go talk the man of our dreams (and nightmares) Freddy Kruger, and talk about our "scream queen of the week"! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/inanotherworld/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inanotherworld/support

"We've got the podcast, and you've got the ears." This week our hosts continue digging into the slasher genre with 1985's A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, the black sheep of the Nightmare franchise. Originally dismissed for not following the format established by fan-favorite part 3, it has since been looked at with new eyes for its... less than subtle... subtext exploring teenage homosexuality. But does that mean it holds up as a film? Be sure to check out Mark Patton's documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street as well as the segment in Crystal Lake Memories for lots of crazy details in the making of this film. Check out the full episode details

And it isn’t just a case of bad dreams. It’s a nightmare come true. For Jesse has just moved to Elm Street – into the house where Freddy Krueger “lives”. A monstrous, local child-murderer, Freddy was burned to death long ago by an avenging vigilante mob. But his evil is still very much alive in Jesse’s house. And Freddy is very much alive in Jesse. And once Freddy’s hell-spawned soul takes complete possession of Jesse’s body, he can return from the dead to do what he so desperately longs to do. He can kill again. And again. And again.
