After a deployment in the Iraq War dually defined by threat and interminable mundanity, Joseph Thomas is fighting to find his footing. Now a doctoral student at The University, and an EMS worker at the hospital in North Philly, he encounters round the clock friends and family from his past life and would-be future at his job, including contemporaries of his estranged father, a man he knows little about, serving time at Holmesburg prison for the statutory rape of his then-teenage mother. Meanwhile, he and his best friend Ray, a fellow vet, are alternatingly bonding over and struggling with their shared experience and return to civilian life, locked in their own rhythms of lust, heartbreak, and responsibility. Balancing the joys and frustrations of single fatherhood, his studies, and ceaseless shifts at the hospital as he becomes closer than he ever imagined to his father, Joseph tries to articulate vernacular understandings of the sociopolitical struggles he recounts as participant-observer at home, against the assumptions of his friends and colleagues. GOD BLESS YOU, OTIS SPUNKMEYER is a powerful examination of every day black life—of health and sex, race and punishment, and the gaps between our desires and our politics Joseph Earl Thomas is the author of Sink, a memoir, longlisted for the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award, and shortlisted for the Patrick Saroyan International Writing Prize; the novel God Bless You, Otis Spunkmeyer, longlisted for the Carnegie Medal for Literary Excellence, winner of the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize; and the forthcoming story collection Leviathan Beach. WARNING: THIS EPISODE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES. Is Drag Queen Story Hour really about tolerance, diversity, and acceptance or is something more sinister going on? Natasha Crain returns to unpack the sobering final chapter of her new book, 'When Culture Hates You', that investigates the evils of the "sexual liberation of children" (SLC) and the subtle ways that kids (and the people who raise them) are being targeted. During this midweek podcast episode, Frank and Natasha will answer questions like:Who are the founders of SLC and how has their "research" infiltrated academia? What is the ultimate goal of Queer Theory? What is "childhood innocence" and why should anyone who cares for children read the research article 'Drag Pedagogy'?What are the three pivotal events in history that led to the SLC movement we see today? What did Sigmund Freud think was the ultimate purpose to life and how did he influence this disturbing movement? How should you respond if someone accuses you of being transphobic?Should we support sex-reassignment surgery if it makes some people feel happy?Falsely billed as "family friendly", Drag Queen story hours are growing in popularity all over the country. Yet, it's of the utmost importance that parents become aware of the stated goal of these events, which is to sexualize children. You will undoubtedly feel the weight of the evil in this conversation, but hang in there, listen closely, and order your copy of 'When Culture Hates You' so that you can be informed and take action on this pressing issue!Resources mentioned during the episode:NATASHA'S WEBSITE: https://natashacrain.com/ORDER NATASHA'S BOOK: https://bit.ly/4h4BRUgRESEARCH ARTICLE: https://doi.org/10.1080/03626784.2020.1864621UNSHAKEN CONFERENCE 2025: https://unshakenconference.com/

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 107 Queer Theory, which is to say Queer Marxism, is a religious cult, as discussed at length in The Queering of the American Child (https://amzn.to/40GX0i5). So what's the role of the drag queen in this cult? While much has been said on this issue to clarify for people that the drag queen in the presence of children is meant to be the purveyor of an initiation rite into Queer Marxism for the kids, a clear explanation of why they're chosen would be of use. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay provides the explanation as it is rooted in Judith Butler's Queer Theory: drag queens are the enlightened priest class who understand that gender is an oppressive performance that can be parodied, disrupted, and deconstructed. Join him to gain greater depth of understanding of this grotesque cult activity. New book! This month's guest on the Rejected Religion Podcast is Brennan Kettelle. Brennan returns for Part 2 of our discussion on Monster Theory, this time looking at the applications of Monster Theory, as well as a more in-depth look at how Brennan is using this theory, along with other related concepts and theories. Brennan is a PhD researcher at the Centre for History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents (HHP), University of Amsterdam. Brennan holds an MA in Gender and Cultural studies (2016) and a research MA in Religious Studies, specializing in Western esotericism (2021). She is currenting writing her doctoral dissertation, investigating historical associations between the religiomythic demoness Lilith and queerness within artistic, literary, and occult discourses. Brennan also teaches an 8-week online course on Lilith - focusing on Lilith's origins and cultural receptions within Western esotericism - for the Brooklyn-based organization Morbid Anatomy. Utilizing monster theory and queer theory in her research, Brennan is more broadly interested in investigating themes of the ‘monstrous-queer' within esoteric literature, orders, and figures, as well as esoteric themes within queer subcultures, politics, and histories. Some highlights:Brennan's areas of exploration are primarily located in Gender Studies, Queer Theory, Religious Studies, Horror Theory, and Esotericism. In addition, as Monster Theory has a foundation in psychoanalysis and postmodern theories, Brennan expands on this in greater detail. This leads us into a conversation about the recent film, The Substance, as well as theories found in Foucault's works. Shifting the focus to Religious Studies, Brennan notes how monsters are most often aligned with evil; however, there are exceptions to this when it comes to werewolves in the Bible, for example. [Note: the text that I am reading from regarding werewolves in the Bible as well as the Werewolf Renaissance is taken from my own Research Master thesis.] Religion and Horror Studies intersect in films such as Longlegs, where we can see themes such as “monstrous infection” or a returning sickness. As Brennan states, “the monster is the illumination of everything a society oppresses or represses.”Speaking on the working term of ‘stigmatized alignment,'  Brennan uses the examples of poet Renee Vivien, and “The Witch of Kings Cross” Rosaleen Norton to explain this concept in more detail. In closing, Brennan touches upon the adjacent theory of Hauntology, where past ‘monsters' linger in the present and haunt us. Time, in this instance, could be seen as a monster as well. This is the Free Content version of Episode 33; you can find the full episode at my Patreon page: https://patreon.com/RejectedReligion?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLinkThis episode is also available for a one-time purchase.PROGRAM NOTESFind Brennan:https://uva.academia.edu/SBrennanKettellehttps://www.instagram.com/_restingwitchface/ Monster Theory Resources:https://ieas-szeged.hu/downtherabbithole/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Barbara-Creed-The-Monstrous-Feminine-2007.pdfhttps://archive.org/details/monstersincloset0000benshttps://www.amazon.com/Celluloid-Closet-Arthur-Laurents/dp/B001NI5C6Uhttps://archive.org/details/religionitsmonst0000bealhttps://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/mono/10.4324/9780203361894/philosophy-horror-noel-carrollhttps://revisesociology.com/2016/09/21/foucault-surveillance-crime-control/https://medium.com/deterritorialization/jacques-derridas-specter-s-of-marx-and-the-concept-of-hauntology-reflections-on-deconstruction-2eb687322a69https://academic.oup.com/fs/article/59/3/373/638853 Films and Shows Mentioned (Selection):https://www.imdb.com/title/tt17526714/ The Substancehttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt23468450/?ref_=ttfc_fc_tt  Longlegshttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt14966898/ Late Night with the Devilhttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt4574334/  Stranger Things https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5040012/ Nosferatu 2024Renee Vivien:https://allpoetry.com/Renee-Vivien https://youtu.be/3dUc17ut3as?si=KJ9ZDCBFct00eQuj Spotlight with Brennan Kettelle 2021Rosaleen Norton:https://www.witchofkingscross.com/about-new/ Theme Music and Editing: Daniel P. Woke culture isn't just some passing trend or a punchline about purple-haired activists. It's a dangerous ideology that's infiltrating everything-our schools, universities, corporations, and governments. If we don't wake up to what's really going on, the values that built Western society are at risk of being completely torn apart. In this video, we're going to take a deep dive into where wokeism came from, tracing it back to Marxism, postmodernism, and other critical theories that laid the foundation for the chaos we see today. We'll explore how ideas like "diversity, equity, and inclusion" aren't as harmless as they sound, and how these woke doctrines are used to manipulate us into silence. More importantly, we'll talk about what we're fighting for-the values that made the West great: reason, individual freedom, and a belief in objective truth. Church of England school chaplain Bernard gave a coherent, reasoned and measured sermon to the student body one day, giving them permission to disagree respectfully and lovingly with the recent Queer Theory they had been presented with. Five years later, having been removed from his post, and despite four secular safeguarding rulings vindicating him, the Church of England still considers him a safeguarding risk to children. His treatment has been mystifying and outrageous, but he remains gracious, steadfast and firm in the faith. You will repeatedly shake your head in disbelief, frustration and anger as you listen to his story, but I think it's an important one to engage with.Read the actual sermon which led to Randall's persecution: christianconcern.com/resource/a-school-sermon-by-bernard-randall-competing-ideologies/At the time of recording, the Bishop and/or Diocese of Derby had not responded, as I said in the interview. We're trying a new experiment with my podcasts moving forward, where I record them as a Space on X / Twitter (and also broadcast them on my YouTube channel) to invite people to come and discuss ideas with me.Today's discussion starts off as a critique of James Lindsay and his work, where I assert that he is allowing the real communists to win by lying to people about the Democratic party being communist. It then morphs into a robust discussion of queer theory and the differences between the way activists show up in the real world versus what's published in academia. Please feel free to leave a comment on my Substack, giving me feedback on this new format.Support my work here: https://karlyn.substack.com/subscribe This is a public episode. Known as the “consort” of Baal as Asherah; the “goddess of love, beauty and sexuality” as Aphrodite in Greek mythology (Venus for the Romans); the ancient Mesopotamian goddess of war and sexual love, Ishtar; Inanna in Sumerian culture; or known simply as the “Queen of Heaven” in other cultures, this spiritual power continues to insidiously work in our cultures today, usually under the guise of “love” and “beauty” and even “tolerance”. From the “free love” movement of the 60s to “Queer Theory” today, the ‘goddess of love' also brings chaos, violence, and oppression. She promises freedom but only brings bondage.

Part two of this three-part series on dancefloors and belonging examines how we experience intimacy and a sense of vague belonging. We look at the complex conflicted feelings of our lives that introduce paradox in a queer approach to analysis that draws upon magical realism. We examine the notion of an intimate public and how our constructions and projects of a “we” inform our feelings of belonging. Finally, the episode looks at senses of vague belonging and vague intimacy that are most profoundly experienced on dancefloors. Interwoven are reflections on peacebuilding and how peacebuilders may use the arts to lubricate spaces for vague belonging and multilayered affective experience. The Music & Peacebuilding Podcast is hosted by Kevin Shorner-Johnson at Elizabethtown College. Throughout US history, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people have been pathologized, victimized, and criminalized. Reports of lynching, burning, or murdering of LGBTQ people have been documented for centuries. Prior to the 1970s, LGBTQ people were deemed as having psychological disorders and subsequently subject to electroshock therapy and other ineffective and cruel treatments. LGBTQ people have historically been arrested or imprisoned for crimes like sodomy, cross-dressing, and gathering in public spaces. And while there have been many strides to advocate for LGBTQ rights in contemporary times, there are still many ways that the criminal justice system works against LGBTQ and their lives, liberties, and freedoms. Queering Law and Order: LGBTQ Communities and the Criminal Justice System (Lexington Books, 2020) examines the state of LGBTQ people within the criminal justice system. Intertwining legal cases, academic research, and popular media, Nadal reviews a wide range of issues—ranging from historical heterosexist and transphobic legislation to police brutality to the prison industrial complex to family law. Grounded in Queer Theory and intersectional lenses, each chapter provides recommendations for queering and disrupting the justice system. This book serves as both an academic resource and a call to action for readers who are interested in advocating for LGBTQ rights. New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 94 Queer Theory is one of the most destructive ideas ever to have been loosed onto our society from the halls of academia, as we have documented in the recent book The Queering of the American Child (https://amzn.to/3K2HovQ ). But do you know the definition of "queer"? Do you know that it's not possible to be queer, only to act queer? Do you know it has almost nothing to do with gay people? Do you know it's virtually guaranteed by definition to encourage pedophilia? All this and more is available in the original definition of "queer" as it is used in Queer Theory. Join host James Lindsay in this episode of New Discourses Bullets, where he reads and explains the original definition of "queer" from David Halperin's 1995 book Saint Foucault: Towards a Gay Hagiography (https://amzn.to/4bmHaM2 ). Who are its biggest proponents? And what practical impact has it had on America's youth, our institutions, and society at large?“What they define for a pedagogy right from the beginning in 1993, was a radical form of educative activism, implemented deliberately to interfere with, to intervene in the production of normalcy in school subjects, which is just technical gobbledygook from queer theory. That means we are going to use critical pedagogy as a method and we're going to make sure kids do not turn out normal,” says Mr. Lancing. “They're going to turn out deviant, abnormal, perverse—whatever it is that is positioned against the norm, that is the goal. And they laid that out. Right at the very beginning. They also added that their goal was to make it explicitly activist in nature, so there is no room for interpretation.”“There are no brakes on the train. Yesterday's radical is today's conservative. It has to keep moving towards the direction of completely dissolving normalcy, boundaries, and legitimacy. So, don't be surprised if it gets a bit crazier than even children biting other children while they're dressed as dogs and cats and wearing tails,” says Mr. Lancing.“And it was meant to bring about what Paulo Freire's vision was: a next generation, non-Soviet, Marxist revolution in the children, based off of an education system he derived from Mao Zedong, in his own words. What Mao had done in the 1950s successfully with children, he imported into his method,” says Mr. Lindsay. “But, of course, we know that Mao used that in the mid-1960s as the basis to create his Red Guard that then went and did exactly what we see schoolchildren in America doing today. Can they read? Not really. Can they write? Not so much. How are they at math? Failing. However, they know to show up on the statehouse steps when there's some policy they don't like or when something happens, so that they can do a die-in or they can do some kind of show of activism.”Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guests, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

We discuss how political activism can flatten the personality or erode personal life, and how the Left's narrowing of subjectivity, or ignoring subjective experience, created a space for postmodernism, and its over focus on subjectivity, carte blanche to thrive on the Left. We also comment on why the student Palestine protests are taking the form that they are, the time when the socialist Left was against Queer Theory, and how some people use political activism to work out or deny their psychological problems. We also discuss how women on the far-Left are considered in the same way as on the political right, namely; base, easily suggestible, and lacking objectivity. Both Hannah and Jen talk about their experiences in socialist groups where there was a suppression and suspicion of any member's subjectivity that fell outside the party's remit or goals. Plus, Trotskyism as opportunism, why the moronic Left had to brand the Canadian truck strikers as 'fascists', Joan Didion's view of the archetypal young Marxist-Leninist, C.S. Lewis's criticism of materialism, how the Left and Right paradigm is breaking down into globalism vs. anti-globalism, and we give a shout out to the Marx Engels Lenin Institute.

The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Episode 137 "American education is in the grip of a religious cult." That's the first sentence of the newest book coming out from New Discourses: The Queering of the American Child (https://queeringbook.com), by Logan Lancing with James Lindsay. This religious cult, which is called Queer Theory and Queer Activism, represents the basis for the greatest child-abuse scandal in history, and it's time parents, grandparents, teachers, and citizens learn what's really going on with it so we can put a stop to it. Written in Logan Lancing's impressively accessible and easy-reading style, The Queering of the American Child pulls back the curtain on the cult nature of Queer Theory and its unacceptable takeover of American institutions in education, medicine, government, policy, and beyond. It is a must-read. In this episode of the New Discourses Podcast, host and co-author James Lindsay introduces the book and lets you know what some early readers have had to say about it. I THOUGHT I had gone too far, but they went and did it . . . they hired an apparent Satanist. THE THESIS: The Democrat Party is mainstreaming Satanism. Incidentally, that is NOT a thesis, that is now a fact. Original Episode LinksTHE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: 1 John 5:18-2018 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.Ephesians 6:12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The Rank and File Of Satan's KingdomIn Ephesians 6:12, the apostle Paul presents a divine revelation he received that describes how Satan's kingdom has been militarily aligned. He writes, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”Notice that at the top of this list, Paul mentions a group of evil spirits he calls “principalities.” This word is taken from the Greek word archai, an old word that is used symbolically to denote ancient times. It is also used to depict individuals who hold the highest and loftiest position of rank and authority. By using the word archai, Paul emphatically tells us that at the very top of Satan's kingdom are powerful evil beings that have held their lofty positions of power and authority since ancient times — probably ever since the fall of Lucifer.Paul goes on to tell us that below principalities is a second group of evil beings he refers to as “powers.” This word “powers” is taken from the Greek word exousia, and it denotes delegated authority. This describes a lower, second-level group of evil beings — demon spirits — who have received delegated authority from Satan to carry out all manner of evil in whatever way they desire to do it. These evil forces are second in command in Satan's dark kingdom.Continuing in his description of Satan's rank and file in descending order, Paul mentions “the rulers of the darkness of this world.” This amazing phrase is taken from the word kosmokrateros and is a compound of the words kosmos and kratos. The word kosmos denotes order or arrangement, whereas the word kratos has to do with raw power. Thus, the compounded word kosmokrateros depicts raw power that has been harnessed and put into some kind of order. This word kosmokrateros was at times used to picture military training camps where young men were assembled, trained, and turned into a mighty army. These young men were like raw power when they first arrived in the training camp. However, as the military training progressed and the new recruits were taught discipline and order, all that raw manpower was converted into an organized, disciplined army. This is the word Paul now uses in his description of Satan's kingdom. What does it mean? Don Stewart :: How Does Satan Keep Unbelievers in Spiritual Darkness? The Figurehead was told to appoint an apparent Satanist as the Monkey Pox coordinator. And, at this point, given his social media profiles and interviews, he will need to come and and PROVE he's not a Satanist.Benny Johnson was first out with the pictures of this guy. They are disturbing beyond belief. If you are not a Satanist why do you do everything Satanists do? Benny Johnson: “Meet Demetre Daskalakis. Demetre was just appointed by Joe Biden to be the official White House National Monkeypox Response Deputy Coordinator. Demetre proudly wears the official symbol of the Church of Satan: The Pentagram. Joe Biden appointed a Satanist to the White House.”Some more pictures of this guyOf course, playing to the Illusion of Respectability, he put on the coat and tie to lie to people about Monkey Pox[AUDIO] - Suddenly wearing a jacket and tie, Demetre explains this about Monkey PoxThe people who run Joe Biden, and The Party as a whole, are obsessed with promoting all things that go against the Word of God. Adultery, theft, muder, coveting are all sins, but CNN is obsessed with promoting the sin of being active in same sex intercourse. [AUDIO] - Watch Christiane Amanpour insistently push the gay agenda on the newly-elected president of Kenya. She seems very disappointed when he doesn't seem to be on board. Two significant academic scandals from the past year underscore why the new book Critical Dilemma, written by Drs. Neil Shenvi and Pat Sawyer, is so timely and important. In my view, this book offers the definitive critique of critical theory from a Christian worldview. You can receive a copy for a gift to the Colson Center this month. (Just go to colsoncenter.org/October).  Eric Stewart, a former professor in the highly rated criminology department at Florida State University, is the principal author of a paper that concluded that, as Black and Latino populations increased, so did the public's demand for more discriminatory sentencing. After the paper was published, his co-author Justin Pickett, a professor at the University of Albany, noticed problems with the data:   "Pickett found that their sample size somehow had increased from 500 to over 1,000 respondents, the counties polled had decreased from 326 to 91, and the data was altered to the point of mathematical impossibility."  When Pickett approached Stewart with his concerns, he replied with evasive answers and would not share the complete data set. In Pickett's analysis of the data from the first set of 500, the results did not support the conclusion that an increasing Black or Latino population is linked to more severe sentencing. If anything, the initial results pointed to the opposite conclusion. Also in the original survey, unanswered questions left blank had been filled in with “imputed values,” presumably by Stewart.  Both the journal that originally published the paper and Florida State University were reluctant to retract the paper or to take action against Stewart. However, the university's hand was forced by the discovery of five other papers by Stewart that were also based on falsified data. Once that came to light, Stewart abruptly left his $190,000 position at the university.  Perhaps Professor Stewart faked data for grants or due to the pressure to publish. Perhaps he was convinced his theories were correct and too important to be proven wrong. Whatever the case, the data was falsified in support of ideas central to Critical Race Theory, and the consequences were more than merely academic. It's hard not to believe that his studies have been used to shape policy when he's garnered over $3.5 million in grant funding from taxpayer-funded organizations.   The more recent scandal involves Ibram X. Kendi's Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University. Kendi authored How to Be an Antiracist, a book that shot to the top of The New York Times bestseller list and remained there for nearly a year. Boston University launched a center dedicated to Kendi's ideas and hired him to head it. By the end of 2021, the center had collected over $45 million in funding.  Despite that funding, the center recently laid off about half its staff due to significant budgetary problems. A few initiatives had been launched, but the center produced minimal research. Staffers accused the center of a dysfunctional work environment and mismanagement.  Unlike the leaders of the Black Lives Matter organization, Kendi has not been accused of misappropriating donations, though he commands extraordinarily high speaking fees. This seems to be a case of an academic superstar put in charge of a center, who lays out ambitious goals, but is not competent to run it.  Clearly, Kendi wasn't properly vetted by the university or by donors. The corporations that donated clearly ignored an argument central to Kendi's antiracism, that capitalism is oppressive and should be dismantled.   Each incident underscores both the pervasive influence of Critical Theory on academic culture and its flaws as a theory. Like all ideas, Critical Theory and its offshoots (Critical Race Theory, intersectionality, Queer Theory, and others) have consequences. Like all bad ideas, it has victims.   For the sake of truth and out of love for our neighbors, Christians must be prepared to push back against these bad ideas. This requires understanding these ideas and responding to them with competence and grace for the people who hold them.   Critical Dilemma: The Rise of Critical Theories and Social Justice Ideology is such a crucial resource right now. Authors Shenvi and Sawyer take seriously the worldview behind various versions of Critical Theory, identify each version's central ideas, and define key terms such as “intersectionality,” “antiracism,” “privilege,” “wokeness,” “heteronormativity,” and others. They trace the history of these ideas and offer a thorough response from a Christian worldview. As our way of saying thank you for a gift to the Colson Center this month, you can receive a copy of Critical Dilemma by Drs. Neil Shenvi and Pat Sawyer.
