John Candy stars as a bumbling private investigator who is hired to find a kidnapped heiress. Co-starring Jeffrey Jones, Annie Potts, Tim Thomerson and Shawnee Smith.
John Candy is the kind of guy you want as your uncle, your travel buddy or your best friend. But does he work as a private investigator cracking a complicated kidnapping? "Who's Harry Crumb?" rolled the dice to find out. Falling somewhere between "Fletch" and "Ace Ventura," this 1989 comedy was largely predictable, mostly uninteresting and painfully miscast, but it had its moments. Absurd disguises, a loveable sidekick, non sequiturs and uncomfortable outfits kept things irreverent and memorable. And for an '80s movie, that's sometimes all you need. He was a talkative shower-curtain ring salesman, a US Soldier of WWII, an unscrupulous street-beat TV personality, an albatross, AND the last line of defense for an amusement park. John Franklin Candy (October 31, 1950 – March 4, 1994) rose to fame in the ‘70s as a member of the Toronto branch of the Second City and its SCTV series, and through his appearances in comedy films. Most people don't know he was a co-owner of the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the team won the 1991 Grey Cup. Candy died in 1994 at the age of 43. His final two film appearances, Wagons East and Canadian Bacon are dedicated to his memory. Who's Harry Crumb? (1989) or a better question is who made this movie?? Starring John Candy, Annie Potts, and Jeffrey Jones, this film is about a detective who is very much a buffoon. This movie did not age well, I say that but looking at the ratings it got when it came out, it might have aged the same way!

When horror fans think of "Leatherface" from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, they think "Gunnar Hansen", and rightfully so. When the same people think "Leatherface" from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2, they SHOULD think of my guest on Episode 246 of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace... stuntman Bob Elmore. It's ridiculous how somebody else gets the credit for that role but literally had just two close-up shots in the entire movie. I recorded a short mini episode with him at the New Jersey Horror Con a couple years back and felt we needed to have a full conversation about his body of work. He doubled for John Candy in six movies... "Spaceballs", "Who's Harry Crumb?", "Only the Lonely", "Nothing But Trouble" and "Uncle Buck". He played the executioner in the first and third installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean", he had a small role in "Casino" with a career spanning close to thirty years. Bob is an awesome guy. Enjoy. For this episode, Greg selected a gem of an 80s film. Well, it might be closer to a Diamonique of a movie with a gem of an actor. Anyway, Susan and Greg watched "Who's Harry Crumb?" starring John Candy, Annie Potts, Jeffery Jones, and Shawnee Smith. Being a John Candy fan, Susan wanted to love it but found it to be unsuccessfully derivative of bigger 80s hits such as "Ruthless People," "Naked Gun: Two and Half," and "Fletch." Greg just enjoyed "Who's Harry Crumb" for what it was: a silly 1980s film. The two discuss Candy, Potts, and Jones' performances. They also walk through some of the film's comedic scenes and rate "funny or not funny." As always, "have questions" about the things that took them out of the film.

Merry Christmas eveyone! A sequel that removes Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy (basically all the charm) so Doug and Jamie are stuck with Fischer Stevens and a robot devoid of humor and personality. Cynthia Gibb is given nothing to do but Doug and Jamie would watch a different film starring she and the cab driver, with whom she has the most chemistry. Fisher Stevens in brown face may strangely be one of the least offensive things about this movie. Just kidding, that's terrible even by 1988 standards. On this episode of the show, Phillip starts by talking about the runtime for No Time To Die being 163 minutes. He then talks about what he has been watching at home or in the theater; Who's Harry Crumb? (1989), Octopussy (1983), National Lampoon's Vacation (1983), and National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985). Then he gets deep into the 13th 007 movie, Octopussy from 1983. It's a newer and shorter format. We hope you enjoy. Jame Bond and Phillip will return on Monday March 2nd with A View to a Kill from 1985.
John Candy plays Harry Crumb, the bumbling son who never quite lived up to the reputation of his sleuthing father and grandfather in his family's long-standing detective agency. Instead of running the company, he's been relegated to being a lowly trainee as their Tulsa office. Ineptitude is just what the CEO of the company, Eliot Draisen (Jeffrey Jones), in Los Angeles wants from an investigator for reasons of his own. Draisen flies out Crumb to Los Angeles to crack the case involving the kidnapping and ransom of Jennifer Downing, the beautiful heiress daughter of P.D. Downing (Barry Corbin) and his philandering new wife Helen (Annie Potts). Crumb begins to use his penchant for disguises to get to the bottom of things.
This week Nathan gets to see a new John Candy movie, and Travis quotes Fletch until you puke. It’s WHO’S HARRY CRUMB? And FLETCH, today on Six Pack Double Feature. Time Stamps: 00:00:00 - Who’s Harry Crumb? 00:38:40 - Fletch 01:32:30 - Chaser Questions Copyright 2019 | Klopek Media

On the final show of 2018 Erik Childress and Sergio Mims want to make sure you have not overlooked anything on your cinematic shopping list for Christmas (and after.) A bunch of great cult titles and TV shows from Mill Creek, THE best action film of the year, an overlooked gem from the Chicago Critics Film Festival and Sergio’s candidate for one of the Blu-ray releases of the year.
