Dennis and the group are in the Grammy Hall of Fame for co-writing “School's Out.” The original Alice Cooper group have sold millions of singles and albums and were on the cover of Forbes for having the largest grossing tour in 1973 over Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. The original Alice Cooper group is in the Guinness Book of World Records for largest indoor audience of an estimated 120,000 to 148,000 in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1974. The Billion Dollar Babies album reached number 1 in America and Britain, and the group are recognized as the innovators of theatrical rock shows, which included giant balloons, hangings, snakes and spidery eye makeup.Dennis currently records and tours with Blue Coupe featuring Joe and Albert Bouchard of Blue Öyster Cult fame and singers Tish and Snooky of Manic Panic. The original Alice Cooper group recorded 3 songs on Alice's Welcome 2 My Nightmare album, and re-recorded “School's Out” with Brian Johnson, Joe Perry and Johnny Depp for the Hollywood Vampires album. The Alice Cooper group reunited to record several songs on Alice's Paranormal album produced by Bob Ezrin, and the group did a five-city tour in the United Kingdom in November 2017, which included 14,000 people at Wembley. Face the Music: An Electric Light Orchestra Song-By-Song Podcast
After Welcome to My Nightmare, and especially a hit single with "Only Women Bleed", Alice Cooper as a solo artist was continuing the same success as he had with the band called Alice Cooper. The problem was that success was catching up with him in the form of alcoholism, sapping both his health and his creativity. Still, guitarist Dick Wagner and producer and keyboard player Bob Ezrin managed to keep Alice going through the end of the '70s. A second ballad, "I Never Cry", kept him on the charts, even if his second solo album was a warning of things to come.

Baxie talks to Jeff Jourard from the Hollywood Stars! Jeff talks about joining the band and about their incredible history. Created as the West Coast's answer to the New York Dolls, the Hollywood Stars were a band who recorded two largely abandoned albums in the 1970's. However, two of their songs were taken and recorded a couple of multi-platinum selling albums. ("Escape" which appeared on Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare and "King of the Nighttime World" which appeared on Destroyer by Kiss). Jeff's own career includes early stints with Martha Davis and The Motels as well as an early version of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers! Prepare yourself for an incredible story! Listen on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud, Spotify, and on the Rock102 website. Brought to you by Metro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Chicopee

Phil Bowyer and Mike Svensson discuss the 1975 Alice Cooper album "Welcome to My Nightmare" track-by-track. They call it one of the best albums of all time and compare it to the soundtrack of a horror movie. Highlights include the theatrical, vaudeville-inspired feel of the music, the appearance by Vincent Price, and songs like "Devil's Food," "Department of Youth," and "Cold Ethyl." The hosts banter about horror movies, and have a special announcement at the end. ---Links:Extended show notes @ SoundsOnVinyl.com---Credits:Hosts:Mike Svensson - Instagram Phil Bowyer - Vero / TwitterIntro & Outro:Voice Over: Kate Bowyer Music: Dead Anarchy ----Thank you for listening!

“Some songs demand sacrifice,” Rob Errera writes of the title song in his novel ‘Hangman's Jam,” a story that chronicles the rise of the band Allen Vent and The Strange Creations and the mysterious song that haunts and beguiles them. If you like your rock novels to come with a hearty dose of groupies, drug overdoses, sex tapes, and a side of murder, betrayal, and some freaky other-worldly creatures, you're in the right place. Speaking of mysterious and powerful songs, Zeena Schreck joins me in the last segment of the podcast to talk about the power certain songs have in spiritual and magical practices. Zeena is an artist, musician, Tibetan Buddhist yogini, as well as former High Priestess of the Church of Satan (founded by her late father Anton LaVey). Between 1988-1993, she was composer, vocalist, musician, and graphic designer for the sonic magical musical project Radio Werewolf. Joe was eighteen-years-old and two weeks into college studying to become a psychologist, when a nursing student changed his life in the blink of an eye. For a series of seven years, Joe experienced mini-seizures, and finally two massive Grand Mal seizures on Christmas day 2019, during which he flat-lined. Joe has died three times so far in his life, and his struggle to overcome the nightmare he found himself in has been nothing less than harrowing. He had to give up on his college dreams, redirect his life, learn to speak all over again, and (with the help of inventor Ross Lilley), he's continuing his rehab in learning to walk once more. Joe's book "My Nightmare... And How I Woke From It" has been helping so many other people, but he's gone beyond that, too. This amazing young man and his father teamed up for some original music on YouTube. I've included the links below. The music is set to a slideshow and you can watch Joe's journey yourself. Defining a genre for the group War is a difficult process. There are elements of Latin, R&B, funk, soul, and rock mixed in. Some call it progressive soul. War came from Long Beach, California in 1969, and began as a backing band for Deacon Jones. The band was originally led by Eric Burden of the Animals and were known as Eric Burden and War for their first tow albums, then as War after Burden left the group. Their seventh studio album, Why Can't We Be Friends? would continue a tradition of successful albums for the band, going to number 8 on the US charts, number 1 on the R&B sharts, and two singles would be nominated for the Grammy awards in 1976.War had a large number of musicians, and much of their personnel rotated in and out of the group. For this album the group was Howard Scott on guitar, B.B. Dickerson on bass, Lonnie Jordan on organ, Papa Dee Allen on conga and bongos, Charles Miller on clarinet and sax, and Lee Oskar on harmonica. All members are also listed on percussion and vocals.War was a band with a purpose. The goal of the band from the beginning was to spread a message of brotherhood and harmony, and to speak out against racism, hunger, gangs, and crimes.Bruce brings us this funky fusion band for discussion.. Why Can't We Be Friends? The title track reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Each band member gets their own verse to sing. The title is sung 44 times. It was played in outer space during the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. Smash Mouth did a cover in 1998 as the second single from their debut album. HeartbeatThis is a deeper cut with a lot of funk. You could easily hear George Clinton and Parliament doing this piece. The lyrics are about not worrying about things, but being in the present. "Ain't no need a-worryin' about the future. Ain't no need a-worryin'."Don't Let No One Get You DownLeading off the album, this song is a piece of encouragement, letting the listener know they will always be lifted up by the singer. "Don't let no one get you down, cause if they do, if they do, I'll be around."Low RiderThe big hit off the album would become iconic over time. The song is about a car and a culture in Southern California. A low rider is a car modified with hydraulic lifts so the wheels can be lowered and make the car bounce. The band maintains that the references are not to drug culture, although the song did make it into a couple of Cheech and Chong movies.. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main Theme to the motion picture "Jaws"This movie was keeping everyone out of the water in the summer of 1975. STAFF PICKS:Welcome to My Nightmare by Alice CooperWayne starts off the staff picks with the title song from a concept album that chronicles a journey through the nightmares of a child named Steven. Cooper would later perform this song on "The Muppet Show." It peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100.Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While) by The Doobie BrothersRob brings us a cover from Motown. Holland-Dozier-Holland wrote this one, originally performed by Kim Weston in 1964. While the original version peaked at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, the Doobie Brothers version was more successful, peaking at number 11.Sister Golden Hair by America Brian features a track that went to number 1 on the charts. This is a relationship song according to Gerry Beckley, and it was made as a demo before America recorded their fourth album. It didn't make the cut for that album, and so was included in their next album. Magic by PilotBruce's staff pick is the first hit single from short-lived Scottish pop rock band pilot. The inspiration for this song is a sunrise on Blackford Hill in Edinburgh. Lead singer David Paton also worked with the original lineup of The Alan Parson's Project, and worked with Kate Bush, Camel, and Rick Wakeman. The band had a couple of other hits before splitting in 1977. NOVELTY TRACK:You Never Even Called Me By My Name by David Allen CoeThe perfect country and western song was released in 1975, and reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Alice Cooper - a story of intrigue, drugs and great stage shows. While influencing The Sex Pistols, Kiss, Bowie, the movie, “A Clockwork Orange” and Australia's Jimmy and the Boys, Alice Cooper changed from a band to an individual, and left an enormous legacy in today's rock world. This week's “Before You Die” album is Marc Bolan's “Electric Warrior”, which didn't impress the boys at all, despite Bolan's reputation, some great singles and production by Tony Visconti. Folks, we are shocked and appalled that none of you have ever yelled at us for never having done a Mercer Mayer book on this podcast. We're onto episode #227 and in all this time, Mr. Mayer has never once graced our eyeballs. Today, we correct this longstanding ill. Take a listen to this if you would like to hear Betsy's off-the-cuff recounting of all the Mercer Mayer books that we haven't done. She also go into tangents on the awfulness of feet in early 80s footie pajamas while Kate engages in The Great Tissue Box Theory. Show Notes: Not sure how much credence to give to the working theory that this book is referenced in Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare. It's a great idea, but the monsters in this don't really resemble the one in the book. Just our two cents: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kum-q6RfPAw Whereas this video of the book is most certainly narrated by Michael J. Fox. So that's all good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpGPYXSPSxQ For the full Show Notes please visit: https://afuse8production.slj.com/2022/05/23/fuse-8-n-kate-theres-a-nightmare-in-my-closet-by-mercer-mayer/

In 1969, SHEP GORDON founded Alive Enterprises, a personal management company and over the years, Gordon and Alive have been responsible for managing the careers of Alice Cooper, Groucho Marx, Raquel Welch, Anne Murray, Ben Vereen, Teddy Pendergrass, Stephanie Mills, Blondie, Manhattan Transfer, Burton Cummings, Yvonne Elliman, Midnight Star, George Clinton, Luther Vandross, Rick James, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Kenny Loggins, Gipsy Kings , the Pointer Sisters, and many more, who have sold a total of over 100 million albums worldwide. Gordon and Alive set many precedents in the music industry including the first television production of an album (Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to My Nightmare”), the first long form rock video produced for home release (Blondie’s “Eat to the Beat”), and one of the first concert television series (“Rock and Roll Tonight”), all of which inspired a new generation of music video and theatrical rock concert productions. In the mid 70’s, Alive ventured into the movie business where its first production Ridley Scott’s “The Duellists” won the Best Debut Film award at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival. After several studio productions, including “Roadie” and “Endangered Species,” Gordon co-founded with Chris Blackwell and Island Records, Island Alive and Alive Films, for the production of independent feature films. Their commitment to artistic freedom attracted influential filmmakers and has been responsible for the production and/or distribution of the Academy Award-winning “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” Academy Award-nominated “Betty Blue,” “Marlene” and “El Norte,” Lindsay Anderson’s “The Whales of August,” Alan Rudolph’s “Choose Me” and “The Moderns,” John Carpenter’s “Prince of Darkness,” “They Live and Village of the Damned,” Wes Craven’s “People Under the Stairs,” Sam Shepard’s “Silent Tongue,” as well as 40 other movies. In 1975, Alive expanded into the restaurant industry with the opening of its first restaurant, Carlos ’n Charlies, which became a Hollywood institution for 20 years and then in the late 1980’s, Alive partnered with Robert DeNiro to open Tribeca Grill in New York City. Alive’s restaurant business is still active having opened approximately 40 restaurants thus far, the most current being a founding partnership in Jean-Georges’ Spice Market in New York City. In the ‘90’s, Gordon’s started focusing on food as entertainment and chefs as entertainers, founding Alive Culinary Resources, which was designed to bridge the gap between the public and the world’s most sought-after chefs. From its inception, his client roster read like a who’s who of the culinary world, including legendary French Chef Roger Vergé, Alice Waters, Wolfgang Puck, Charlie Trotter, Emeril Lagasse, Dean Fearing, Nobu, Todd English, Charlie Palmer, Larry Forgione, Paul Prudhomme, Jimmy Schmidt, Stephen Pyles, Robert del Grande, Daniel Boulud, Michel Richard, and 100 more of today’s most famous chefs. Gordon was inducted into the Hawaii Culinary Hall of Fame and has also won numerous other industry awards, including being named one of the 100 most influential people in Rolling Stone magazine.

Season 2: Episode 5 Bob Ezrin Part 2 This episode features the second half of our conversation with Bob Ezrin. Few producers have had careers as Bob Ezrin has had. The award-winning producer has worked with some of rock’s biggest acts (Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Green Day, Kiss, Rod Stewart, Jane’s Addiction, and U2). Bob worked with Jane's Addiction on 2003's Strays album. Photo by Neil Zlowzower In the first part of our interview, Bob talked about producing The Wall, one of the greatest concept albums in rock history. In fact, he is well known for his work on concept albums, helming such projects as Kiss’s Music From “The Elder,” Lou Reed’s Berlin, Kansas’ In the Spirit of Things, Nine Inch Nails’ The Fragile, and Alice Cooper’s Welcome To My Nightmare & Welcome 2 My Nightmare. Bob in the studio with Kiss in 1976 According to Bob, his love for injecting a sense of theatricality into albums comes from his childhood, and his amusing explanation involves a historic record player, Sir Thomas More, and Spike Jones (the comical 1950s bandleader, not Spike Jonze the filmmaker). Bob flanked by 2Cellos. Photo by The Canadian Press/Michelle Siu Producing all those adventurous albums exemplify Bob’s values in record-making, among which that it’s important to see, as well as hear, the music when creating a record. A record is simply another form of theater. His work impressively has covered a broad range of genres: Americana (Jayhawks), New Wave (Berlin), Country (Johnny Reid), Celtic (Natalie McMasters), Classical (2Cellos), Folk (Murray McLauchlan), Jam Bands (Phish), Pop (Air Supply), and Soundtracks (Heavy Metal 2000). Bob at work with the band Hanggai The scope of his massively successful work includes recording acts from all over the world, such as Finland (Hanoi Rocks), France (Téléphone), Italy (Andrea Bocceli), Uganda (Geoffrey Oryema), Spain (Héroes del Silencio) and Mongolia (Hanggai). He also takes on music projects with iconic musician-actors like Tim Curry, Kristen Chenoweth, Jared Leto (30 Seconds To Mars), and Johnny Depp (Hollywood Vampires). Paul McCartney stopping by a Hollywood Vampires' recording session. Johnny Depp on the far left with Bob, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry on the right side Bob is also familiar with mixing for live recording projects such asTaylor Swift’s Speak Now World Tour Live, The Alice Cooper Show, and Roger Daltrey’s A Celebration: The Music of Pete Townshend and The Who. Donovan (far left) visits with Glen Buxton, Alice Cooper, and Bob, circa 1972 Bob’s latest collaboration with Alice Cooper, Detroit Stories, came out shortly after our conversation took place. This project represents a truly special aspect of Bob’s career – his long-running relationships with performers. He’s done over a dozen Alice Cooper albums, going back to 1971’s Love It To Death. His partnership with Kiss spans from 1976’s Destroyer to 2012’s Destroyer Resurrected. It also shows up in his work with Peter Gabriel (Gabriel’s 1977 solo debut and 2010’s Scratch My Back) and Pink Floyd (1979’s The Wall and 1994’s The Division Bells). The guys behind Detroit Stories Courtesy Detroit Free Press Notable too is Bob’s lengthy work associations with two revered rock guitarists: Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter. He met each guitarist on two of his earliest production jobs: Hunter was in the Mitch Ryder-fronted band Detroit while Wagner played in the short-lived group Ursa Major. Over the years, Bob tapped Dick and Steve for other many projects, most prominently were the times the two played guitar together in Alice Cooper’s and Lou Reed’s bands. Not surprisingly, Bob also produced solo albums for each guitarist. Bob with Steve Hunter In recent years, Bob has helmed two rather unique projects: working for the first time with a veteran group that hasn’t done a studio album in many years. In 2008, he produced Bauhaus’s Go Away White, their first studio album in 25 years. Then, in 2013, Bob did Now What!?!, the album Deep Purple made after an eight-year hiatus. Both projects were well received, and Bob went on to produce Deep Purple’s next two albums. Bob produced Deep Purple's Now What?! With his wealth of studio experience, Bob has developed some guiding principles regarding the producer’s role. One involves challenging the musicians to create something they are capable of creating, and he talks about how this “setting the bar” approach played a central role in his collaboration with Peter Gabriel on the former Genesis frontman’s first solo album. Peter Gabriel doing the recording of his first solo album. Photo by Larry Fast Bob producing the legendary Canadian band Lighthouse in 2017 Outside of the recording studio, Bob has been involved in many significant multi-media endeavors. Early in the 1990s, he co-founded 7th Level, a pioneering computer software company that put out educational and entertainment CD-ROMs, including many highly successful Monty Python titles. At the end of the 90s, Bob co-founded the innovative internet radio provider Enigma Digital; Clear Channel later purchased the company and Bob served as vice-chairman of Clear Channel Interactive. Bob being honored with a star for Canada's Walk of Fame. Photo by Michelle Siu/The Canadian Press A Toronto native, Bob is a member of both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame along with having a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. Deeply believing in the importance of community service, Bob started the charity organization Music Rising with U2's The Edge and he also is a board member of the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, two non-profits whose work involves providing children the opportunity to make music. Bob with his Music Rising co-founder The Edge Louise Goffin with Bob at a MusiCares tribute to Carole King Please enjoy Part Two of our illuminating conversation with the amazing Bob Ezrin.

"We've got the podcast, and you've got the ears." This week our hosts continue digging into the slasher genre with 1985's A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, the black sheep of the Nightmare franchise. Originally dismissed for not following the format established by fan-favorite part 3, it has since been looked at with new eyes for its... less than subtle... subtext exploring teenage homosexuality. But does that mean it holds up as a film? Be sure to check out Mark Patton's documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street as well as the segment in Crystal Lake Memories for lots of crazy details in the making of this film. Check out the full episode details
