The movie Coyote vs. Acme comes with some buzzy lore: it was famously shelved, and almost didn't see the light of day. But it's here now, and it's good and looney! It follows Wile E. Coyote when he decides to sue the Acme Corporation for manufacturing crappy, ineffective products. The cast includes Will Forte, John Cena and Lana Condor. We also talk about our favorite Dolly Parton musical performances. This week's episode of the Empire Podcast sees Dave Green's Coyote Vs Acme finally reach cinema screens after a long and perilous journey which saw the film face actual deletion at one point, before common sense prevailed. Green is our guest this week, and he tells Helen O'Hara about the arduous experience he went through, and the film itself, which is a joyous affair. Either side of that, Chris Hewitt returns to the host's chair and is joined by Helen, James Dyer and Amon Warmann to talk about their favourite movies and how often they see them; discuss 'vs' movies; look at the week's movie news, including the sad passing of Dolly Parton (however, this episode was recorded before the news that Tim Curry and Peter Cullen had also left us; we will pay tribute to them next week), and a perplexing move from Ryan Gosling; and review Coyote Vs Acme, Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars, Pedro Almodovar's Bitter Christmas, Gregg Araki's I Want Your Sex, and Will Gluck's One Night Only, which sparks a Helen rant for the ages. Oh, and an old friend of the pod makes an unexpected return, much to Helen's delight. Enjoy.

Have you ever wondered what happens when a beloved cartoon character takes on a corporate giant in a courtroom battle? Join host Kevin Reid in this riveting episode of The K. B. Radio Network as he delves into the live-action/animated film "Coyote vs. Acme," directed by David Green and featuring the comedic talents of Will Forte and Lana Condor. This film isn't just a nostalgic trip down memory lane; it's a fresh take on Wile E. Coyote's relentless pursuit of the Acme Corporation for selling him faulty products, a storyline that resonates with anyone who has ever felt wronged by a big company. Reid takes listeners on a journey through the film's tumultuous path to release, highlighting its initial shelving by Warner Bros. and eventual acquisition by another studio. He reflects on the impact of Looney Tunes on his childhood, reminiscing about the laughter and lessons these iconic characters imparted. As he unpacks the emotional depth of Wile E. Coyote's character arc—masterfully conveyed without a single word—Reid captures the essence of what made these cartoons timeless. With a keen eye for detail, Reid also points out the film's comedic highlights, particularly the standout moments featuring John Cena, who brings an extra layer of humor to the story. However, he notes that the live-action actors serve primarily as a backdrop to the animated antics, allowing the beloved characters to shine in their own right. This episode is a delightful blend of nostalgia and critique, as Reid offers a balanced perspective on the film, ultimately giving it a grade of C+. While he acknowledges the film's enjoyable aspects, he suggests that it may find a more suitable home on streaming platforms rather than in theaters. Listeners are encouraged to engage with the K. B. Radio Network, sharing their thoughts on "Coyote vs. Acme" and the film's unique approach to storytelling. Whether you're a die-hard Looney Tunes fan or just curious about the latest in animated cinema, this episode promises to entertain and provoke thought. Tune in to discover how this film captures the spirit of the original cartoons while navigating the complexities of modern storytelling. Filling in for Adam Holz once again, Plugged In's Paul Asay joins Brian for a fun Friday lineup. They dig into Coyote vs. Acme, the long-shelved live-action/animated hybrid where Wile E. Coyote finally sues Acme Corporation (run by Foghorn Leghorn) for decades of exploding gadgets, now getting a theatrical release after a distributor rescued it from Warner Brothers' tax write-off shelf. Paul highlights its nostalgic charm and message of persistence, alongside some mild language and cartoon violence parents should weigh. They also cover Beyond Belief, a Christian throwback film set in the 1980s Christian music scene featuring cameos from the actual band Petra, following a teen guitarist who takes a literal word from God — "run" — as a call to train for a marathon on the same day as his band's make-or-break battle of the bands.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"Coyote vs. Acme" is a 2026 American live-action animated legal comedy film directed by Dave Green, written by Samy Burch from a story by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater, and Burch, and based on Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article of the same name. Starring Will Forte, Lana Condor, Tone Bell, Luis Guzmán, Martha Kelly, P.J. Byrne, Kenneth Choi, and John Cena, with Eric Bauza leading the voice cast, the film follows Wile E. Coyote as he enlists a billboard attorney to sue the Acme Corporation for repeatedly selling him defective products. After Warner Bros. Discovery initially shelved the completed film for a tax write-off in 2023, Ketchup Entertainment acquired it in 2025 following widespread public backlash. The film was finally screened (officially) at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25th, 2026, where it received positive reviews. Green was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work and experience making the film, including its unusual journey to the screen, which you can watch or listen to below. Despite being released in 1988, Who Framed Roger Rabbit remains the pinnacle of blending 2D animation with live action photography. Set in Hollywood after World War II, it follows Detective Eddie Valiant as he unravels the murder mystery involving famed toon Roger Rabbit, his wife Jessica Rabbit, and the terrifying villain Judge Doom. It's also famous for bringing together, for the first time, Disney and Warner Bros. characters like Donald and Daffy Duck, plus Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. Next week we'll look at a not as good live action/animation hybrid, and the week after that one of the worst to do it in the lead up to Coyote VS ACME.
