Will & Jared discuss a recent A24 film that follows an engaged couple, played by Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, that drunkenly share their darkest secrets with each other. It's a secret so shocking even we don't want to spoil it... right away at least, in Kristoffer Borgli's The Drama. How much influence do we think producer Ari Aster had on this movie? What terrible act from the writer/director's own past was dug up while this movie was in theaters? Does Jared make an about-face on the movie on air? How many times does Will accidentally hit himself in the ear during the episode? Listen to find out! The Drama is available on VOD now. Intro by AJ Stillabower (ajstillabower.com).Our outro track is "Gymnopedie No. 1" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 LicenseYou can listen to Reno Championship Wrestling & Spellbound and Gagged anywhere you get podcasts.Email the show at debaserpod@gmail.comFollow Debaser on Instagram, Bluesky, and Facebook.Follow Will on Instagram and Jared on Bluesky.Cover art by @DogBitesBackNY

The Book and Film Globe podcast is back with a Spring Movie Roundup, or at least a First Half of Spring Movie Roundup, as there have been some other movies in the second half of spring, which we'll talk about next week. Stephen Garrett returns to talk with host Neal Pollack about a grab-bag of movies, including Project Hail Mary, which we'd previously discussed, but it's also the only film everyone has seen in common this season. "Did you see Project Hail Mary?" people will ask, and the answer is usually yes.Less seen, but somewhat important, is The AI Doc, Or How I Became An Apocalyoptimist, which Neal and Stephen found interesting and thought-provoking, but rather twee. This is what happens when you give millennials access to a camera. Perhaps you shouldn't give Gen-X directors access to filming millennials, which is what happened with Norwegian director Kristoffer Borgli, who made the romantic "comedy" The Drama. Neal and Stephen discuss the movie's weird tonal shifts, disturbed morality, and class cluelessness better than any two critics have or ever will. Finally, Stephen admits that he just wasn't the audience for the Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie, and Neal recommends Pixar's charming Hoppers for him instead. At BFG, we see everything. And we see it well! Enjoy the show.

Dhruv, Cris, Aryan, Srilekha & Varun (correctly pronounced, as per Srilekha, as "Borun") are discussing a(nother) A24 Film that's been the talk of the town since it released in cinemas last month. Since most of them were relatively cold on the film itself, they've decided to dedicate at least half of this episode to discussing the drama surrounding not only the film but also its director, Kristoffer Borgli -- especially the casually disconcerting essay he wrote about May-December romances. In particular, he cites Woody Allen's "Manhattan" as the key inspiration that helped him justify his relationship with a 16-year-old girl as a 27-year-old man.The QID members discuss -- in length -- the value (or not) of having this kind of discussion before delving into the particularities of Borgli's films that interested (or irritated) them.MAJOR SPOILERS FOR "THE DRAMA" & MINOR SPOILERS FOR "MANHATTAN" THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE EPISODE!Do hit 'Follow' on Spotify if you haven't already to help the podcast reach more people!Follow our Instagram page: https://instagram.com/queenisdead.filmpodcast.TIME CODESIntroduction : [00:00 - 13:19]A24's Marketing of "The Drama" : [13:19 - 24:32]Borgli & The Woody Allen Connection : [24:32 - 01:01:40]The Drama of "The Drama" : [01:01:40 - 01:44:12]Films (Recos) like "The Drama" : [01:44:12 - 02:04:37]Outro (Aryan's "Samay Raina" Tangent) : [02:04:37 - 02:11:49]You can also follow these mad people on Letterboxd at -ARYAN: https://letterboxd.com/aryantalksfilms/.SRILEKHA: https://letterboxd.com/srilekha__mitra/.DHRUV: https://letterboxd.com/aterminalcinema/.CRIS: https://letterboxd.com/crislim/.VARUN: https://letterboxd.com/varunoakbhakay/.

Kristoffer Borgli's provocative new The Drama turns on the revelation of a secret past that is more of an abstraction than the one in the other half of this pairing, making the resulting relationship rift between Zendaya and Robert Pattinson's characters both frustrating and fascinating to parse. After talking through our responses to the film's button-pushing, and our vastly different takes on its ending, we bring A History of Violence back in for Connections to see how two films with very different agendas court our sympathy for both the secret-keepers and the secret-kept, and explore the intertwined questions of how much a person can change and how much punishment they deserve for their past. Kristoffer Borgli's The Drama uses the revelation of one character's dark secret as a provocative “twist,” but also as the basis for an exploration of whether a romantic relationship can survive such dramatic upheaval, a premise that calls to mind 2005's A History of Violence. The central couple of David Cronenberg's thriller, played by Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello, is much further along in their marriage than the altar-bound pair in The Drama, which lends fascinating nuance to their attempts to reckon with the husband's violent past — particularly for a bunch of podcasters who are decades into their own long-term relationships. So this week we do our own reckoning with the film's ideas about how violence can shape a person and redefine a marriage, and what makes A History of Violence stand out among both action thrillers and Cronenberg films. Then in Feedback, we welcome some constructive criticism regarding Project Hail Mary as well as our choice of film to pair it with.  Please share your thoughts about A History of Violence, The Drama, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email or voice memo to comments@nextpictureshow.net, or leaving a short voicemail at (773) 234-9730. La letteratura per l'infanzia norvegese sarà al centro della prossima edizione delle Bologna children's book fair. Helllo friends! Welcome to the EIChapel! This week we're making a vow to you all to cover interesting stories, dive deep into the discourse and share yet another bouquet of excellent recommendations.First up we're discussing a pretty grim story out of Manchester, after a school librarian revealed she had been asked to remove a host of book titles from her shelves. These books included Heartstopper, The Da Vinci Code, 1984, We Should All Be Feminists and Men Who Hate Women by Laura Bates. We discuss the importance of reading beyond your age group and why we think these decisions fail children rather than protect them.Secondly we're untangling some thorny feminist internet discourse, after one Gen Z account accused millennial feminism of being sex-obsessed, shallow and misguided. They wrote "Gen Z is kinda clocking millennial/Gen X feminists tea. Y'all said/say men are trash but then advocate for having casual sex with many of them and partaking in kinks that may be harmful. It never made sense." We unpack this idea and interrogate the feminist messaging that we grew up with and whether our attitudes to sex really have been harmful to younger generations. And finally- Kristoffer Borgli's new Zendaya/R-Pattz fronted film The Drama. If you've not heard about it, then congratulations on being born literally this morning. To catch you up: what starts as a gorgeous meet-cute becomes something else after Emma (Zendaya) shares the worst thing she's ever done during a pre-wedding dinner with her maid of honour (Alana Haim), her husband (Mamoudou Athie), and Charlie (Edward Cullen Robert Pattinson). Don't worry- we signpost our spoilers very clearly. Thanks so much to Cue Podcasts for the edit and for all of you listening at home!----------This week Ruchira was loving MAFs and reformer pilates, Oenone was loving The XX radio on Spotify and hating Leave The World Behind, and Beth was loving learning her lesson about ChatGPT and Dandelion Is Dead by Rosie Storey.School book banning escalates in the UK as Greater Manchester secondary school censors scores of books - Index on CensorshipQueer author from Essex devastated after school removes book - BBC NewsMen Who Hate Women by Laura BatesNo, Millennial Feminism Did Not Trick You by Michaele Makusha on SubstackRoger Ebert - The Drama review by Robert Daniels Hosted on Acast. Julia discusses Zendaya's first of many 2026 projects, 'The Drama.' Starring Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Alana Haim, Mamoudou Athie, Hailey Benton Gates, & Jordyn Curet, with director Kristoffer Borgli, 'The Drama' was nothing short of excellent. Join Julia in this DEEP dive of the characters, their secrets, their desires, and their (very obvious) weaknesses. Plus, of course, her personal feelings towards the unraveling of this story, and why everyone was a little bit wrong. Julia also discusses the true motivation behind this film, and why 'The Drama' is a must-watch, *especially now.* (This is what happens when we support original stories btw. More fresh ideas and more Zendaya on the big screen NOW!) Just like 'The Drama,' this episode is funny, deals with an uncomfortable topic, dares to feel empathy, and is led by a biracial girl in her 20s. "The Drama" is an American romantic dark comedy film written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is tested by an unexpected revelation during the week before their wedding. It also stars Alana Haim, Mamoudou Athie, and Hailey Gates in supporting roles. The film has received positive reviews from critics for its acting, direction, and screenplay. It has been a hit for A24 at the box office, driven especially by the audience's desire to know the big "reveal" that the film's marketing has brilliantly kept hidden. Haim, Athie, and editor Joshua Raymond Lee (who cut the film using Adobe Premiere) were all kind enough to spend some time speaking with us about their work and experiences on the film, which you can listen to below.
