We're back with another episode in our season of films about dreams. This week we're turning once again to Nicolas Cage in the Kristoffer Borgli film, Dream Scenario. The last time we spoke about Cage was for our Con Air episode and his turn as Paul Matthews in Dream Scenario couldn't be more different than Cameron Poe. Not a furry bunny in sight in Dream Scenario. We talk about our first impressions when watching it in 2023, our interpretation and why Paul Matthews is the way he is. If you haven't listened to our Come True episode, we'd recommend diving in with that one first as we spoke about the Jungian archetypes in that show which helped us unpack Dream Scenario. Season 7 runs until 23rd September 2024. For the full season line-up head over to our Patreon page and become a free member. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. Star Wars television continues to make its way into headlines as Lucasfilm released first look images for Skeleton Crew, which will premiere on December 3. The show is run by Jon Watts and written by Christopher Ford, who both worked on the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, and stars Jude Law who plays a Force-user named Jod Na Nawood. But another Star Wars show, Lando, is not getting the greenlight. Director Justin Simien confirmed the television series starring Donald Glover is dead in the water even though a show bible, scripts, and concept art existed. The series was announced in 2020. Deadpool & Wolverine continued to make box office history and obliterate more records in its second week, jumping to a better-than-expected $97 million domestically and bringing its worldwide total to $824 million dollars. This is the eighth biggest second weekend of all time and the fifth biggest for an MCU title. Twisters dropped 37 percent its third weekend to $22.7 million for a domestic total of $195.6 million. M. Night Shyamalan‘s Trap opened in third place with an estimated $15.6 million, in line with expectations. This week the second season of House of the Dragon officially ended and fans have to wait two years until season three. To add fuel to the dragonfire, showrunner Ryan Condal announced that season four will be the last one for HOTD. In an adjacent move, HBO previewed brief, early first footage of A Knight of Seven Kingdoms, which will be another Game of Thrones prequel show featuring the characters Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg. Paramount+ revealed a trailer for the Star Trek: Discovery spinoff movie Star Trek: Section 31, which stars Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou. This film will debut on Paramount+ sometime in early 2025. This week, Disney laid claim to a number of 2027 dates. The dates include marvel movies for July and November, a pixar movie in June, and a disney animation movie in November. Netflix announced that Squid Game will debut its long-awaited second season on December 26 and that a third and final season is set to premiere in 2025. HBO released preview footage of several eagerly anticipated new and returning series — including the second season of The Last of Us, the third season of The White Lotus, and the IT prequel series, IT: Welcome to Derry, among others. Jenna Ortega is in final talks to join JJ Abrams‘ secret untitled movie at Warner Bros. to star opposite Glen Powell, who is currently finalizing his deal. Very few details are known about the project at this time. A John Wick sequel series is in development at Lionsgate Television. Robert Levine is attached as writer and showrunner on the project, titled John Wick: Under the High Table. Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski will serve as executive producers. Apple TV+ set a fall premiere date for Season 2 of Shrinking. The dramedy starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford will be released on Wednesday, October 16th. Following the acclaim of his most recent film Dream Scenario, director Kristoffer Borgli is reuniting with A24 for The Drama, with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in early negotiations to star. Christmas is now the release date for the Timothee Chalamet-led Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.

Titlar som nämns i avsnittet: ”Whateverest” (Youtube, bland annat) ”Sick of myself” (SVT Play) ”Dream scenario” (vod) ”The roast on Tom Brady” (Netflix) ”Hollywood con queen” (Apple TV+) Producent: Joanna Górecka Ansvarig utgivare: Lisa Irenius
After a long winter slumber, #CageClub is back with a vengeance to talk about last year's Nicolas Cage masterpiece, Dream Scenario! We praise Kristoffer Borgli and explore the real family affair both on screen and behind the scenes of this movie. We talk about how Dream Scenario shares similarities to other Cage movies, the reality and the terror of the film's dream scenes, and an all-time great monologue from Nicolas Cage. We talk about Dylan Gelula (and all of Michael Cera's ad agency), antelligence, and how we'd handle the reality of the entire world dreaming about us. (We have no good answers.) Mike teases a dreamcast (not the Sega console). Joey shares his one real issue with the movie. We talk about whether the ending works, how to pivot to make it even deeper/more profound, and how perfect the perfect final scene is. (We'll be back very soon for Arcadian!)

But what begins as something exciting quickly takes a bad turn. Starring Nicolas Cage, Julianne Nicholson, Michael Cera, Tim Meadows, Dylan Gelula, and Dylan Baker, this film explores the schism between our dreams and our reality, and the consequences of being unable to tell one from the other. Escuchar audio

We're talking Kristoffer Borgli's DREAM SCENARIO, the new dark comedy starring Nicolas Cage, produced by Ari Aster, and released by A24 depicting Cage as a man who suddenly finds himself popping up in people's dreams and becoming an overnight sensation as a result. Plus, we discuss Cage's most recent desire to pivot to television!
Director Kristoffer Borgli discusses his new film, Dream Scenario, with fellow Director Tim Heidecker in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, he discusses working with Actor Nicolas Cage to create the character he envisioned, his writing process and the influences that went into the story, and how he borrowed from multiple genres in an effort to transcend categorization. The film tells the story of Paul, a family man who finds his life turned upside down when millions of strangers start mysteriously seeing him in their dreams. But when his nighttime appearances start taking a nightmarish turn, Paul is forced to navigate his newfound infamy. Your genial host Norm Wilner is just too genial to do that sort of thing.

DREAM SCENARIO MOVIE REVIEW For some people, Nicolas Cage is the man of their dreams. But with the new film, Dream Scenario, Nicolas Cage is the man of everyone's dreams! Nic Cage stars as Paul Matthews in Kristoffer Borgli's new film. He plays a mild-mannered, put upon, nebbish college professor. All of a sudden people… Read More »Highly Suspect Reviews: Dream Scenario
This week, Dana and Stephen are joined by Supreme Friend of the Pod, Isaac Butler, who co-hosts Slate's Working podcast and is the author of The Method: How the Twentieth Century Learned to Act (which is now available in paperback!). The panel begins by pondering Dream Scenario, a provocative new film from Norwegian writer-director Kristoffer Borgli. The nightmarish social satire stars Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews, a hapless middle-aged biology professor who begins appearing randomly in people's dreams in a tale about anonymity and the cycle of virality. Then, the three speak with the brilliant author and classicist Emily Wilson about her recent translation of Homer's the Iliad, and her unique approach to metered verse and how she came to access the interior lives of Hector, Patroclus, Achilles, and more. Finally, the trio discusses Coyote vs. Acme, a completed film based on Ian Frazier's 1990 comic in The New Yorker, that was shelved last week by Warner Bros. (reportedly in favor of a $30 million tax write-off) then un-shelved when the studio received backlash for being “anti-art.” In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, the panel descends into a different kind of nightmare: The Beatles' music video for “Now and Then.” Has director Peter Jackson created a touching CGI tribute to the legendary band? Or has he engineered something truly evil? Email us at culturefest@slate.com. Endorsements: Dana: The Public Domain Review, an online journal and not-for-profit project dedicated to “the exploration of curious and compelling works from the history of art, literature, and ideas.” She's only just begun to scratch the site's surface, but recommends starting with “W.E.B. Du Bois' Hand-Drawn Infographics of African-American Life.” Isaac: Deadloch, an Australian feminist noir comedy set in a fictional working class fishing village that's been, as he describes, “gentrified by the most granola crunchy lesbians on earth.” Stephen: The song “New Romantic” by British folk singer-songwriter Laura Marling, specifically her extraordinary 2006 live performance of it when she was quite young at a now-closed music venue in West London. Outro music: “Any Other Way” by Particle House Podcast production by Cameron Drews. Production assistance by Kat Hong. If you enjoy this show, please consider signing up for Slate Plus.
