What happens when you're young, rich, and spoiled? You get duped by a con-man who charged as much more than $200,000 for a weekend music festival on an abandoned island and you get to eat cheese sandwiches. This is the unbelievable story of how Billy McFarland attempted to organize a music festival with only 3 months' notice and how it all fell apart at the expense of millennials who just wanted to be like super models. If you like what you hear, leave us a rating/review on your favorite platform or leave us a voice mail at the link below. We would also love to have you over at our little but growing Patreon community called Off The Doc! Enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/onthedoc/message
everyone knows what Coachella is right? One of the biggest music festivals in the world. Well imagine that but bigger with tons of models and famous people, yachts, chefs, anything money could buy. Oh yeah and it's on a deserted island so the entire festival Is the island. Sounds like a dream right? Well that's exactly what it was because it never happened. What do you do when over 200,000 people show up on a island with no food, water, electricity, or a way home? Listen and find out.
The PodCats are down two kitties but with the help of our Tom Cat, they manage to cover most of the important details from this Netflix Documentary. This week, Kenzie and Ame discuss the Netflix documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. What happens when a once popular music artist and a young, tech entrepreneur walk into a bar? They invite a bunch of known Instagram influencers, get super wasted, film the whole thing, and release a promotional video advertising a weekend music festival in paradise where you can live like a rockstar for a few thousand dollars. Unfortunately, this unlikely pair had no idea what they were doing, and the ring leader wouldn't take advice or "no" for an answer. Before long, it was evident that this festival wouldn't be the experience that it was hyped up to be. Festival attendees would soon find out that the paradise they thought they had purchased was nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Social media posts went viral, leaving the Fyre Festival in a pile of ashes in which co-founders Ja Rule and Billy Mcfarland walked away from without explanation or apology.

Check out the latest episode of the “This is Gonna Hurt” podcast. In this Free Friday episode, Gordon discusses the debacle that was the Fyre Festival and the two subsequent documentaries on Netflix and Hulu. If you aren’t familiar with the Fyre Festival, it was an over hyped and under-delivered festival in the Bahamas that was so bad, people went to jail and people’s lives were at stake. In this episode, we discuss: How to over promise and over deliver. How to be honest when you fail. How to assess when things go wrong. We also discuss two documentaries: Netflix’s Fyre: The Greatest Party that Never Happened and Hulu’s Fyre Fraud. Thanks so much for listening. Another double feature? Well, something need to be looked at from different angles. Fortunately, we can always rely on Netflix when we need a lot of content. But that's a part of the problem isn't it?Look, there is a lot to learn, though. About seeing and perception and the way we receive stories. Episode 19 of Welcome To The Party Pal ushers listeners into one of the most notorious festival failures of all time, Billy McFarland and Ja Rule's Fyre Festival. Expounding on two documentaries that explored the arrogance and incompetence behind Frye's failure — Hulu's Fyre Fraud and Netflix's Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened — hosts Brian Sachson and Michael Shields discuss all the players involved, the culture of celebrity and exclusivity at the heart of the fiasco, the prospective blow-job heard 'round the world, and more! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
