I've spent 30-something years in this work. Justifying. Excusing. Rationalizing. I even had a name for it. I called it "innocent ignorance." Like the people I was trying to help just didn't know better. And if they knew, they'd do better. So I kept explaining. Kept carrying it. Kept trying to get them there. And then I looked at the word "ignorant." The moment I saw that, something in me just released. Upgrading your ecommerce platform can be daunting, especially with the risk of disrupting sales. Experts James Gurd and Paul Rogers share strategies to modernise confidently without adversely impacting revenue. The podcast is based on a combined 40 years' replatforming experience. Discussion points include:Managing Technical DebtTechnical debt, like inefficient code and clunky integrations, can hinder platform upgrades. Addressing this debt is crucial for a smooth transition. We discuss conducting thorough audits, prioritising cleaning up bloated themes and implementing continuous code reviews to prevent new debt.Handling SEO risksSEO traffic drops are a major concern during platform changes but there's a clear process to follow to minimise risk: for example, benchmark current rankings, plan URL changes carefully and use 301 redirects. Post-migration, monitor organic traffic and keyword rankings closely to recover quickly.Building a business case for changeDespite economic pressures, replatforming can be justified through cost savings, efficiency gains and potential revenue uplift. Calculate reduced support costs, forecast growth conservatively and highlight support cost reductions to build a strong business case.Using prototyping to validate planned changesRapid prototyping allows you to test and refine concepts on your existing stack before full implementation, reducing costly rework. Focus on high-impact areas like checkout and navigation, and use low-code platforms to simulate user journeys.Modernising your ecommerce platform doesn't have to mean risking revenue. By addressing technical debt, safeguarding SEO, building solid business cases and using rapid prototyping, you can stay competitive without disrupting sales. Incremental improvements guided by expert advice are the safest route to a resilient, revenue-driving platform.Chapters:[00:30] - Introduction: Modernisation challenges and risk mitigation[02:00] - Approaches to reducing technical debt: legacy code, documentation and third-party integrations[05:00] - Common issues with front-end themes and how bloated themes impact performance[08:10] - Replatforming considerations: scope, costs and agency support[11:00] - Ensuring performance and accessibility standards in theme builds[13:00] - Practical steps for enhancing front-end performance without replatforming[17:40] - Justifying replatform ROI amid economic pressures[22:50] - Cost-effective opportunities in migration projects: feature scope and trade-offs[28:15] - Solution MVPs and phased launches for risk management[32:50] - Using existing site data for testing and benchmarking pre-launch changes[34:55] - Strategies to avoid SEO traffic drops during migration[40:20] - Increasing team agility through prototype-driven development and low-code solutions

Musk won't have to give up any money he allegedly saved from the delay. After all, naming and shaming corporate villains is fun, trendy, and profitable."The S&P 500, managed by S&P Global Dow Jones Indices, on Thursday, announced it was beginning consultation on rule changes that could potentially help Elon Musk-led SpaceX gain an expedited entry into the index. The rule changes include letting IPOs enter the index six months after their debut on an eligible index instead of a 12-month period, according to current rules. The index also proposed eliminating a minimum Investable Weight Factor (IWF) of 0.10 for megacap companies. The IWF is a methodology used to calculate the number of shares of a company available to trade on the market.Notably, the proposed rule changes also eliminate profitability requirements for megacap companies. Current rules require a company to be profitable on a GAAP basis for 12 months to be considered for the index, but that rule could be eliminated.S&P DJI only accepts feedback during the announced consultation open period, which is generally one calendar month following the consultation announcement. The Index Committee considers the complexity of the change and the desirable implementation timing in determining the open window for the consultation, which is generally aligned, if possible, with the index rebalancing schedule. In this episode of Outlaw God, Dr. Steven Paulson and Caleb Keith discuss the evangelical doctrine of sin, contrasting it with medieval and modern approaches that define sin primarily as individual acts or failures of free will. Using Psalm 51 and David's encounter with the prophet Nathan, they explain how sin is truly revealed and forgiven not by the law or human effort, but through the external promise of the gospel. The conversation highlights Luther's insight that sin is ultimately unbelief, while faith itself is a gift created by God's Word that frees the sinner through mercy rather than merit. Episode 650: Are You Justifying Your Way Out Of The Life You Want? What if the person you've been the gentlest with — and the hardest on — is you?In this raw and relatable episode, Heidi digs into the fascinating inner tug-of-war so many women face: beating ourselves up over every little thing… then expertly justifying the exact habits we wish we could change. From her own honest story about pasta, chai lattes, “healthy” cookies, and hormones, she shows why both voices (the harsh critic and the soft justifier) are trying to protect us — and how they quietly keep us stuck. This conversation ties together Episodes 648 and 649 and lands with the kind of truth that feels like a warm hug and a loving nudge at the same time.If you're tired of the same loop and ready to step into your power, this 10-minute episode is for you.New episodes drop every few days — subscribe, leave a 5-star review, and share with the women who need this reminder.

Recorded April 10, 2026 In this episode, the goon squad takes a swing at the AI gold rush, the made-up drama of "AV-over-IP 2.0," and the growing industry tradition of rebranding the same old nonsense with shinier buzzwords. If you've ever wondered whether cloud creep, interoperability promises, and subscription pricing are solving real problems or just creating newer, dumber ones, this one's for you. Then the panel gets into one of higher ed AV's favorite recurring fights: why everyone thinks classroom tech should cost about $600, why "just throw a TV on the wall" is never the simple solution people think it is, and how furniture somehow always gets approved before the technology that makes the room actually work.  Along the way, they also wander into lecterns, teaching stations, and the usual AV nerd arguing over boxes, desks, and support standards like civilization depends on it. 4. Roman Exceptionalism and the Complexity of Power Guest Authors: Scott McGill and Susanna Wright (7)The final discussion addresses the *Aeneid* as a document of Roman exceptionalism, justifying Augustus's empire as a divinely ordained destiny. However, McGill and Wright argue the poem transcends mere propaganda by emphasizing the human scale and showing sympathy for Aeneas's adversaries, Dido and Turnus. They interpret Virgil's portrayal of weak or coercive kings as a potential critique of the era's shifting power dynamics. Ultimately, the work reflects the "veneer of Republicanism" Augustus maintained while establishing absolute rule, making the *Aeneid* a complex exploration of political transition and the hazards of individual power. How do people justify what others see as transgression? Taking that question to the Persian-Muslim and Latin-Christian worlds over the period 1200 to 1700, Justifying Transgression: Muslims, Christians, and the Law - 1200 to 1700(de Gruyter, 2023) shows that people in both these worlds invested considerable energy in worrying, debating, and writing about proscribed practices. It compares how people in the two worlds came to terms with the proscriptions of sodomy, idolatry, and usury. When historians speak of the gap between premodern practice and the legal theory of the time, they tend to ignore the myriad of justifications that filled this gap. Moreover, a focus on justification evens out many of the contrasts that have been alleged to exist between the two worlds, or the Muslim and Christian worlds more generally. The similarities outweigh the differences in the ways people came to terms with the various rules of divine law. The level of flexibility of the theologians and jurists in charge of divine law varied more over time and by topic than between the two worlds. Both worlds also saw the development of ever more sophisticated justifications. Amid the increasing complexity of justifications, a particular kind of reasoning emerged: that good outcomes are more important than upholding rules for their own sake. To hear more, visit www.globaldispatches.orgOne of the fundamental precepts of the United Nations Charter is that waging war against another UN member state is simply not permitted. It's illegal. There are, however, some narrow exceptions — and here the United States is playing a game of legal legerdemain. In the first segment of our show, we break down the formal legal justification the Trump administration invoked at the United Nations to defend its bombing campaign against Iran. Does it hold up? And more importantly, how do other countries view this retroactive justification for America and Israel's war of choice? We also discuss a potential UN diplomatic intervention in the Strait of Hormuz that is gaining some traction, modeled on one of the UN's successes during the Russia-Ukraine war. After the fold, and for paying subscribers, we examine why the United States is standing virtually alone at the Commission on the Status of Women, casting lone “no” votes on a host of measures intended to promote gender equality. Finally, we discuss the newest entrant in the race to replace António Guterres as secretary-general, Virginia Gamba, and how her nomination may shake up the race.https://www.globaldispatches.org/40PercentOff

Ramit Sethi of I Will Teach You To Be Rich talks to John and Victoria in a follow-up episode. This couple, in their thirties with three children and a home in suburban New York, is facing severe financial challenges with 97% fixed costs and over $100K in non-mortgage debt. In their last session, Ramit highlighted the urgency of their situation, presenting them with two stark choices: sell their house and clear debt, or double down on income and aggressive cuts. They chose to keep their house, which required Victoria to return to work, both of them to significantly increase their earnings, and drastically cut spending. Ramit challenged them to implement these changes within two months. This episode reveals how John and Victoria fared in those crucial eight weeks. Did they truly embrace change, or did old habits resurface? In this episode we uncover: • Their initial feelings after the first money coaching session • The surprising reason for Victoria's job loss • How they managed to cut $500 from their grocery bill • Why John thinks dry cleaning is a necessity • Ramit's radical advice on debt repayment versus savings • The true meaning of "rich life" for John and Victoria • How their childhood money beliefs impact their present • The hidden challenge of Victoria's student loans • Their struggle with an external vs. internal locus of control • The danger of a financial plan that requires 100% perfection Chapters: (00:00:00) The desperation that led to an application to Ramit (00:03:00) How a hotel bill leads to a missed mortgage payment (00:05:25) The once-a-year money conversation (00:10:47) The devastating results of Victoria's annual money spreadsheet (00:19:18) Justifying thousands in Amazon purchases with high debt (00:28:15) Understanding their $600K net worth and zero liquidity (00:35:10) The crushing reality of 97% fixed costs (01:10:46) Victoria's inherited money trauma fuels her avoidance (01:19:40) The importance of taking decisive action (01:21:05) The couple's future plans This episode is brought to you by: Facet | As of the date of this recording, Facet is waiving the enrollment fee for new annual members, and for my audience, Facet is offering $300 into your brokerage account if you invest and maintain $5,000 within your first 90 days. In this episode of Cut to the Chase: Podcast, host Gregg Goldfarb is joined by longtime CUNY professor and former dean, Ken Gold, to unpack how changes to federal research funding, campus governance, and rising tensions around free speech and antisemitism are reshaping higher education. Drawing on decades of academic leadership, Ken offers a candid, firsthand look at what happens when research dollars are delayed, faculty morale fractures, and universities are forced to navigate political pressure, protest, and constitutional limits. This discussion goes beyond headlines to reveal how today's campus battles are quietly redefining institutional risk, innovation, and the future workforce.   What to expect in this episode: How frozen and delayed federal research funding is disrupting universities nationwide Why deprioritizing basic research could hurt innovation and much more The impact of long-term budget pressure on faculty hiring, recruitment, and institutional risk How universities are responding to antisemitism, campus protests, and free speech disputes The difference between anti-Zionism and antisemitism (and why it matters) The role of faculty governance, public statements, and "no confidence" votes during crises Constitutional and regulatory challenges emerging from conflicting federal and local policies Why institutional memory and leadership experience matter more than ever in turbulent times   Stay tuned for more updates, and don't miss our next deep dive on Cut to the Chase: Podcast with Gregg Goldfarb!   Subscribe, rate, review, and share this episode of the Cut to the Chase: Podcast!   Resources: Buy Ken's book, "The Forgotten Borough" by Kenneth Gold: https://cup.columbia.edu/book/the-forgotten-borough/9780231208611    This episode was produced and brought to you by Reignite Media.

AI-generated deep fakes are being used to justify state violence and manipulate public opinion in real time. We're breaking down what's happening in Minneapolis—where federal agents are using altered images and AI-manipulated video to paint victims as threats, criminals, or weak. One woman shot in the face. One male nurse killed while filming. One civil rights attorney's tears added in post. All of it designed to shift the narrative, flood the zone with confusion, and make you stop trusting anything. What we cover:Why deep fakes are more dangerous than misinformation — They don't just lie, they manufacture emotionHow the "flood the zone" strategy works — Overwhelm people with so much fake content they give up on truthWhat happens when your mom can't tell real from fake — The collapse of shared reality isn't theoretical anymoreWhy this breaks institutional trust forever — Once credibility is destroyed, it doesn't come backHow Russia's playbook became America's playbook — PsyOps tactics are now domestic policyWhat to do when you can't believe your own eyes — Practical skepticism in an age of slopChapters:00:00 — Intro: The Deep Fake Problem in Minneapolis02:37 — Why Immigrants Are Being Targeted With Fake Narratives04:55 — The Renee Goode Shooting: Real Video vs. AI-Altered Version07:18 — Alex Prettie Must Killed While Filming ICE Agents09:44 — Nikita Armstrong's Tears Were Added By AI11:45 — The Putin Playbook: Flood the Zone With Confusion14:13 — How Deep Fakes Break Institutional Trust Forever17:37 — This Isn't Politics—It's Basic Human Decency19:26 — Trump's 35% Approval Rating and What It Means22:03 — What You Can Do When You Can't Trust Your EyesSafety/Disclaimer Note: This episode contains discussion of state violence, racial profiling, and police shootings. Justifying investment in customer success is far harder than justifying spend in sales and marketing. In episode #350, Ben walks through a practical framework for evaluating the ROI of customer success and retention programs by tying customer success investment directly to ARR, MRR, and revenue retention performance. Instead of relying on vague qualitative benefits, this episode outlines how finance and SaaS leaders can quantify retention improvements and translate them into real financial impact. Resources Mentioned Blog post on quantifying customer success and retention ROI: https://www.thesaascfo.com/quantifying-investments-in-customer-success-and-retention/ SaaS Metrics Course: https://www.thesaasacademy.com/the-saas-metrics-foundation What You'll Learn Where customer success should be classified on the SaaS P&L (COGS vs. Sales) Why customer success ROI is harder to quantify than CAC or go-to-market efficiency How to use MRR and ARR waterfalls as the foundation for retention analysis The difference between gross revenue retention and net revenue retention in ROI modeling How expansion, contraction, and churn act as independent levers in retention A scenario-based approach to estimating ARR impact from retention improvements Why It Matters Helps justify customer success spend with real revenue and ARR impact Improves financial modeling and long-term financial strategy decisions Connects retention performance to unit economics and scalability Avoids over-investing in customer success without measurable outcomes Provides a clearer framework for board and investor discussions

Was the use of violence on January 6th Capitol attacks legitimate? Is the use of violence morally justified by members of Extinction Rebellion or Just Stop Oil campaigners? Justifying Violent Protest: Law and Morality in Democratic States (Routledge, 2023) addresses these issues head on, to make a radical, but compelling argument in favour of the legitimate use of violence in protest in liberal democracies. Grounded in theories of constitutional morality, the book makes the case that when states make illogical or unjust laws, citizens have morally justifiable reasons to disobey. Violence can act as moral dialogue - both expressively and directly - to denounce unjust laws, particularly in cases where civil disobedience does not go far enough. This book considers recent protest movements, of which the use of violent protest has been central to citizens demands. It examines the activism of the Hong Kong pro-democracy protests, Extinction Rebellion, Black Lives Matter movement, and other contemporary international movements.  This book could not be more timely. In a world where citizens' rights to protest are being increasingly curtailed, and climate destruction is becoming an increasing matter of urgency, Greenwood-Reeves addresses the legitimacy of violent protest and ultimate importance in upholding liberal democracy.  Dr James Greenwood-Reeves is a Lecturer in Law at The University of Leeds.
