The "bounce rate" is the percentage of visitors to a website who leave after viewing only one page. In other words, most of your potential donors "bounce" after seeing your poor “About Us" page. Why do most "About" pages have such high bounce rates? BECAUSE THEY ARE LONG AND BORING AS DISHWATER. Most "About" pages are hard to digest because they don't include your story. Your story on your "About" page is the content that will stay in a reader's head long after they have moved on. Geoff taught me that there are different types of copywriting. If you're uncomfortable with the idea of using words to sell, then take heart because copywriting can help you convince your audience to make a decision that's in their best interest. It can also help you earn a better living as a writer and as a creative, and then you can use that money to invest back into your craft and improve the quality of your work. Geoff Kullman is our guest for the 268th episode of The Copywriter Club podcast. Geoff is a direct-response copywriter and brand strategist who helps online entrepreneurs and personal brands tell better stories and make more money. Geoff breaks down how he uses neuroscience and psychology to write impactful copy that converts. Here's all the things we talk about: The common denominator for copywriters and other writers. Geoff's journey from devout pastor to direct-response copywriter. The importance of showcasing your abilities and talents within your website and business. How to make niching your own and work for you. The framework that takes people from prospect to customer. How to break down the 6-step framework for strong emails and sales pages. The difference between prompt and pitch and why it matters. Trauma-informed marketing and how to write from a place of empathy. Why the marketing world is shifting and how we can adapt to the changes. How to be more intentional about your client avatar. Finding your brand voice and helping your clients find theirs. Where most copywriters go wrong when creating ideal client avatars. What to leave out of emails to make them more compelling and connect with your audience on a deeper level. The impact neuroscience has on the words we write and why they convert. The psychology of why social proof works so well. What chemicals need to be released during the conversion process and in what order. Can you network as an introvert? Dealing with a scarcity mindset and making the shift to an abundant mindset. If you want to learn more about the psychology behind copywriting, be sure to tune into this episode. Our guest for the 268th episode of the Copywriter Club is Geoff Kullman. Geoff uses the power of neuroscience and psychology to create a deeper, more meaningful connection with people, and today I am joined by my co-host Gabby Jackson. How's it going? Gabby? Gabby:  It's going well. How are you? Kira:  Doing really well, Gabby. So you are on our team, we have had so many people in our audience asked to hear more about our team members, and I want to introduce you today just so everyone can get to know you a little bit better. So why don't you just kick off with how you heard about the Copywriter Club and what you do on the team? Gabby:  So, yes, I am super excited to be here. I discovered the Copywriter Club by wanting to find out more information about copywriting in general, and I was all about podcasts, still am all about podcasts, and I just typed in copywriting. This podcast was the first one to pop up, and I started binging episode after episode, and I decided I have to be part of this community, this club, how do I get in? Kira:  No, wait, when was that, Gabby? Gabby:  That was probably last August or September, yeah, so it's been a little over a year. Kira:  Yeah. I remember when we first met you in the underground on our first ... our meet and greet call with you, and we met you, and you just had such great energy that Rob and I were texting each other, we're like, "We have to figure out a way to get Gabby on our team so we can work with her." We were lucky enough that you joined the team, and so what do you do today on the team? Gabby:  So, on the team I handle a lot of the social media aspects, whether that mean graphics or captions, some email writing, podcast show notes and introductions, and some Pinterest tasks as well.

In today's article, the authors analyzed sales pages using the 10 movements in Cheung's move scheme and were able to identify patterns in sales pages. However, the article only touches on examples from one sales page as the focus is not to compare sales pages or frameworks, but to recognize the patterns among different successful sales pages. The authors instead revealed the patterns found in sales pages and emphasized the importance of following formulas in writing sales pages.    This article provides evidence that when writing sales copy we should never wing it. Find the formula that fits with your style, your voice, and how you write but never wing it. Copywriting is about being more than being an accurate speller and having great grammar, it's about learning to follow the frameworks and patterns that we know have been proven to work.   If you're not sure how to write for transformation in your copy, join me in my FREE How To Write Your Own 6-Figure Sales Page webinar on February 20, 2021. 031: Why your Personal Brand Is Failing to Connect with More Customers, feat. Geoff Kullman

There's little more frustrating and deflating than failing to connect with the customers you long to serve. For many personal brands like coaches, consultants, speakers, and creators, this feels paralyzing. You try to put up a website, send out emails, post on social… But nothing sticks. The customers you want to serve either don't stop to listen, or the pass by like casual window shoppers…back when shopping was done at these things called “malls.” The way you connect with customers is through your words. So I asked my good friend and brilliant copywriter Geoff Kullman to help us go from failing to connecting. In this episode, you'll get answers to these copywriting questions: Where should we start when writing marketing copy for our personal brand? How do get a clearer picture of our customer and why is it so important for connecting? Why should personal brands like coaches, consultants, and thought leaders care about neuroscience, psychology, and all that scientific stuff when it comes to their copywriting? ---> RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE Free Training: How to write your own 6-figure sales page »Sign up for Geoff's free training on Feb 20, 2021! 020: The Do's and Don'ts of the Dilution Effect

You might already know that quality trumps quantity, but what exactly does it mean when applied to copywriting? Today's episode dives deeper into the dilution effect and why it matters for us as copywriters and marketers.   Today's study involves showing a list of side effects of a drug to two groups. Only the major side effects of the drug were shown to one group, while the control group was shown a list of major and minor side effects. When asked about the drug's negative effects, the group that had seen both the major and minor side effects rated the risk of the drug significantly lower than the group that only saw the list of major side effects.   Our minds don't add pieces of information up, instead it averages the input, combining both strong and relevant information with weak and irrelevant info. As copywriters, by adding more information we often weaken the point we're trying to make. When we combine strong and weak arguments, we end up diluting our strong points. Even when there are more strong points than weak points, the overall point is diluted and the individual or customer becomes less convinced of the purpose or value of the item or service. Listen in to learn more about the dilution effect (it can make or break your copy!).   If you're not sure how to write for transformation in your copy, join me in my FREE How To Write Your Own 6-Figure Sales Page webinar on February 20, 2021. 019: How the Brain Learns (Part 2)

How does the human brain adapt? What does this mean for our copy? Today's study focuses on comparing the hippocampus of taxi drivers to a control group of non-taxi drivers. MRIs were given to both groups and the brain scans revealed a significant increase of grey matter in taxi drivers (specifically in the right and left hippocampus) in comparison to the control group. This study, for the first time, proved that growth of larger than average hippocampi was correlated with longer periods of time using that particular area in the brain.   We know that how memory works is complicated, so let's apply that knowledge to our copy. First, figure out how to be known for the problem you solve. Second, make sure that the copy you write is known for the transformation it brings. Our brains have plasticity and they're drawn to transformation, so show your prospects what the after state looks like.   If you're not sure how to write for transformation in your copy, join me in my FREE How To Write Your Own 6-Figure Sales Page webinar on February 20, 2021.
