Daniel Lombardo, CEO of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley discussed their needs for the families and individuals they support throughout the year with emergency support and wrap-around services. He spoke of the current housing crisis, especially among the elderly, acerbated by COVID; he also discussed the needs of families who often leave a residence with little more than the clothes on their backs. Volunteers of America supports its clients with emergency shelter, for men, women and families, and in Philadelphia those with traumatic brain injuries; he described their intake and plan for putting them back to self-sufficiency through social services, job and financial training. We discussed the impact of being homeless and how it has a lasting effect on parents and children, it's a defined trauma. He also spoke of their programming for those returning from incarceration, veterans and persons caught up in Human Trafficking. He reminds us that Human Trafficking is a growing crime that will only get worse with the big events coming to the Delaware Valley for the country's 250th celebration. We talked about the needs, beyond the food pantries they offer, Volunteers of America need clothing – especially underwear – for all ages, household goods and linens. We discussed the annual Beasley Media Group station BEN FM Radiothon for Volunteers and he asks us to support their families at the holidays. You or your business can adopt a family to provide the necessary items they need, or you can select names and needs from their Amazon list. They also need volunteers throughout the years. The BEN FM radiothon is December 11th from 6A to 6P live from the Great Plaza at Cherry Hill Mall, next to Santa. Kristen Hermann hosts with help from 6abc. For more information about the services and programming of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley and how you can support them through donations or volunteering, go to VOADV.org. **Replay of Episode 31 : Flow Over Fear Flashback: Ernesto Mandowski on Leveraging Systems to Rise Above Your Fears As entrepreneurs or business leaders, we constantly experience chaos and there's a lot of fear that revolves around that. The first step is to accept the inevitability of chaos. The second step is to have systems in place to mitigate that chaos. In today's conversation, Adam and Ernesto Mandowsky talk all about systems. Ernesto is the CEO of CPD Advisors, a company that helps entrepreneurs turn chaos into cash flow. Ernesto helps early-stage founders transform their operations by designing systems and utilizing his proprietary 6P system. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: Definition of a system Experiencing fear through a lack of system Mastering the delivery of the service The importance of delegation The analogy of the bees and honey Putting people in place to run the systems The importance of constant feedback The 6P system Episode Highlights: [03:42] What is a System A system is a combination of three things: tools, people, and playbooks. They come together to create results or intended results. A lack of a system can cause fear because people are going to be in a constant reactive mode. It doesn't give you time to sit in silence or in flow, and just let the experience sink in. You're playing catch-up all day, every day. And that creates even more chaos in your head. There will always be chaos, so the first step is accepting it. [16:31] Mastering the Delivery of Your Service Mastering the delivery of your service is the first system everyone should master. Once you do that, you're turning your customers into your salespersons. You don't have to invest in additional sales and advertising because you've mastered the delivery of that service. [29:22] Putting People in Place to Run the Systems It's not the best use of time for visionaries to build systems because, by definition, the visionary is the one doing the vision. Hence, one of the biggest leadership qualities visionaries should have is the ability to let go and find someone to serve in that role. Amy B of Fruition gives a challenge to inventory and test your 6P's. It's a really good exercise for anyone especially creators and artists. The 6P's are a mini life survival checklist and a lot of the time when we're navigating a world… or an industry operating by doing things that have never been done before…. It's easy to lose sight of what's most important.
You are about to be inspired and challenged about how you think about value-based care. Since 1991, Rosen Hotels & Resorts has offered an innovative in-house healthcare program called RosenCare that has been improving lives for employees and the community, as well as saved the company approximately $450 million since its inception. Our guests this week are Harris Rosen, businessman, investor and philanthropist who founded Rosen Hotels & Resorts and serves as the company's president and COO; Kenneth Aldridge, Director of Health Services for Rosen Medical Center, the onsite medical home and primary care ecosystem; and Ashley Bacot, President of Provinsure, an independent insurance consulting arm owned by Rosen. The takeaways from this conversation are multi-faceted and can be applied to ACOs, health plans, and employers. This interview will allow you to re-think how local community engagement and partnerships fit into your healthcare strategy. RosenCare's approach will force you to reconsider how you approach access, quality, service, costs, innovation. Saving costs and improving lives, this model is ripe for replication and needs to become the norm in our race to value. In the words of Mr. Rosen, “We need to, as a nation, build a much better health system. If we replicated the RosenCare program nationally, we would save over a trillion dollars annually! Let's use that money to pay off our national debt. Health care can be the treasure that changes America.” Episode Bookmarks: 01:45 Background on Rosen Hotels & Resorts and its innovative in-house healthcare program (RosenCare) that saved $450 million! 03:45 Introduction to Harris Rosen, Kenneth Aldridge, and Ashley Bacot 07:00 Rosen Hotels & Resorts spends 50% less per capita than the average employer (cost “per covered life” is ~$5,500) 08:20 Mr. Rosen explains how the military adages of the 6P's and KISS guides his entrepreneurial vision 09:20 The birth of RosenCare in 1991 due to uncontrollable and rising health insurance premiums (Mr. Rosen) 10:00 Lowering healthcare costs 20% but still facing premium escalations…time to become a self-insured plan and build our own clinic! There's little more frustrating and deflating than failing to connect with the customers you long to serve. For many personal brands like coaches, consultants, speakers, and creators, this feels paralyzing. You try to put up a website, send out emails, post on social… But nothing sticks. The customers you want to serve either don't stop to listen, or the pass by like casual window shoppers…back when shopping was done at these things called “malls.” The way you connect with customers is through your words. So I asked my good friend and brilliant copywriter Geoff Kullman to help us go from failing to connecting. In this episode, you'll get answers to these copywriting questions: Where should we start when writing marketing copy for our personal brand? How do get a clearer picture of our customer and why is it so important for connecting? Why should personal brands like coaches, consultants, and thought leaders care about neuroscience, psychology, and all that scientific stuff when it comes to their copywriting? ---> RESOURCES FROM THIS EPISODE Free Training: How to write your own 6-figure sales page »Sign up for Geoff's free training on Feb 20, 2021!
