Not only is this one of the most entertaining and wild conversations, we've had, but it's truly one of the most impactful discussions about overcoming adversity and the lessons learned along the way. Artist and entrepreneur, Bobby Shmurda, born name Ackquille Jean Pollard, sits down with Ryan, Channing and Fred for a conversation covering everything from his music success to how his upbringing shaped his mindset to how he remained positive through tough moments and how he approaches everyday day and building for the future. In 2014, the young man from Brooklyn gained international fame as he found himself at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with his hit single "Hot Nigga" followed by a record deal and his EP album Shmurda She Wrote. A few months later he was arrested in NYC and charged, along with several other members of GS9, with conspiracy to murder, weapons possession and reckless endangerment and ended up doing seven years in prison from 2014-2021. Regaining his life and freedom, Bobby shares what kept him hopeful while being locked away and his approach to life that completely changed the man he was to the man he is today. From his babysitters being drug dealers and him growing up in the streets, Bobby took his early childhood experiences to help mold a different outlook for while creating a new path for himself. Telling Ryan, Fred and Channing that change starts with our youth and how his real flex is making money but doing it legally and being able to brag about his investments and success the legal way vs what he used to do now gives him true validation. Ofcourse the guys address the rumor mill of his personal life and Bobby doesn't deny having a sex addiction and opens up on the incident that caused him to seek therapy and change his ways. A conversation that could continue for hours with the laughs and gems dropped, Bobby shares how music and hip hop has lost its authenticity and that he only respects a few artists now which is why he is hesitant to get back into the business but leaves the door open for new music on the horizon. Our friend from north of the border returns! Spence and Buzz sit down with RJ to talk about a lot of things going on this month. First, RJ was able to attend the GS9 symposium in New York. He fills us in on the event, including on the panel he participated in. Grand Seiko pulled out all the stops on this one, and from the conversation we had with RJ, it is definitely something to check out in the future (when you aren't welcoming new family additions). The human connection is definitely there among the GS collector base, and RJ said the best part was getting to meet all of the people he has interacted virtually with during lockdown in person.RJ also recently worked with Macallan in eastern Canada to host a tasting as a fundraiser for Movember. RJ walked us through the tasting notes he could remember, but mainly recounted an excellent time and a good dollar amount raised for the cause.Which brings us to the last topic of discussion. RJ is a firm supporter of the Movember movement as he sees the need for it everyday in his job as a physician. Working to raise awareness for men's health (not just testicular and prostate cancer, but mental health and overall wellbeing) is a cause that is worthy of focus. As we talked about last year, men are sometimes not encouraged to ask for help or show signs of weakness. It is important to make sure that we all take care of each other, and encourage the care and focus on these items that is something we all benefit from.
Today's episode guest is Bobby Shmurda. Bobby Shmurda is a hip hop artist from New York City who after exploding onto the scene with his hit song 'Hot Boy', him and his GS9 crew were taken down by the cops on a conspiracy charge in December 2014. He sat in jail for 7 years and got freed earlier this year. He has never done a interview since his release until now. He talks with Akademiks about his rise to fame, the moment he got locked up and the aftermath. Bobby explains his current label situation and says that before now there was an attempt to control him on social media and other public places. He breaks down the relationship with Roc Nation and other artists who have shown him love in the past. He also answers the question if he felt he is owed anything by the artists who have been using his name for extra attention recently. Bobby Shmurda details whats next and how he wants to be more vocal and be able to do him without a label or management censoring him. Also, he gives a breakdown of what is to come in terms of music -- EP on the way then album! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/offtherecord-djakademiks/support

Guess who’s back!? We had Flem (@godflemgod) join us back in the studio off his year long covid hiatus lol. We discussed braving Dallaska last week and how quickly Texas thawed out and got back to business as usual (04:20). Bobby’s back in the free world so we took the time to discuss how we feel this next wave will and should be for he and GS9, especially since they followed the way of hip-hop and the streets by not snitching so. We debated how the reverence of not snitching must be put on display with the support if we really want to push the narrative that it’s worth especially with the colorful troll trying to hijack hip hop (41:53). The end of Kim-Ye? What Why the divorce of Kanye and Kim Kardashian is beneficial for both parties (59:25). No haters allowed! Source had to give a PSA on his no.1 dealbreaker on a first date. It might be surprising AND random but he’s riding with the Hive (1:23:00). This show had our usual randomness of course, the topics and thoughts that might usually go UNSPOKN.

The crew discussed some topics that 'freed' you some people and circumstances. Bobby Shmurda has been released from prison after spending more than six years behind bars. Six years y'all!!! Shmurda served time for conspiracy and weapons possession, authorities said. He pleaded guilty in connection to being a member of the GS9 gang of East Flatbush. During his 2014 arrest, cops say they found two guns and crack cocaine in the car he was in. Unlike Tekashi 6ix9ine, Shmurda did not snitch on his co-defendants and actually did more time to let his brothers off with lighter sentences. He was sentenced to seven years but was eligible for early release. He was picked up by Migos member, Quavo, who had stated that he would be picking up his longtime friend once he was freed. Music legend Stevie Wonder has revealed that he is moving to Ghana to protect his grandchildren from injustice. Oprah then asked him whether he would be moving to the continent permanently: "I am, because I don't want to see my children's children's children have to say, 'Oh, please like me. Please respect me. Please know that I am important. Please value me.' What kinda [life is that]?" Back in 1994, he said he wanted to move to Ghana because he felt there was "more of a sense of community" than in the US. He also stated in that 1974 interview that Ghana’s president at the time had offered him some land. Do you agree with Stevie Wonder's reasons for leaving the country? Would y'all be willing to move to the continent too? In the video, K Michelle dances to Cardi's new song Up. It starts off fine, until K Michelle starts twerking. That's when things go awry. It's not clear whether the singer will suffer any real injury to her body due to the booty - other than some hurt feelings and a little discomfort. Taco Bell is entering the #ChickenSandwichWars with a new chicken sandwich taco! The newest menu item will reportedly be initially tested in select markets starting on March 11th, with plans to expand if the sandwich is a hit. Participating locations in Nashville, Tennessee and Charlotte, North Carolina will be the testing markets. This may be pretty good? Safaree announces divorce with Eric Mena after 2 years and 2 OnlyFans accounts...she called him 'a little girl.' The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked a sudden rise in divorce filings. By April 2020, the interest in divorce had already increased by 34 percent in the United States with newer couples being the most likely to file for divorce. In fact, a full 20 percent of couples who’d been married for five months or less sought divorce during this time period, compared with only 11 percent the year before. Naturally, it affects the celebrity world too. Dr. Dre’s wife Nicole Young filed for divorce in June 2020, Xzibit’s wife Krista Joiner filed on Monday (February 22) and now, Safaree has revealed he and Erica Mena are next in line after only two years of marriage and one child. Tiger Woods was "awake, responsive, and recovering" in the hospital from major surgery, according to a statement on his Twitter account on Tuesday, after a high-speed rollover car crash near Los Angeles. Bobby Shmurda's GS9 associate, Chad “Rowdy Rebel” Marshall is finally a free man. Rowdy Rebel was signed to Epic Records with Bobby and scored hits with “Hot N####” and “Shmoney Dance.” Their careers were interrupted after Rowdy, Bobby, and 13 members of the GS9 crew were hauled off to jail in December of 2014. The guys were investigated by the NYPD for two years. Rowdy Rebel was eventually charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, conspiracy, attempted murder, attempted assault, and reckless endangerment. Rowdy eventually pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree conspiracy and one count of weapons possession to get a lighter sentence. According to the terms of his release, Rowdy will still be under community supervision until December 15th, 2025. In 2016, Ackquille “Bobby Shmurda” Pollard pled guilty to federal conspiracy in the fourth degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second-degree charges. Bobby Shmurda was sentenced to seven years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. He's due out of prison next year (December 2021) after his latest bid for parole was denied. Rhyme and punishment go hand in hand in America. This week, we are featuring Louder Than A Riot, an incredible new podcast from NPR Music. It reveals the interconnected rise of hip-hop and mass incarceration. From Bobby Shmurda to Nipsey Hussle, each episode explores an artist's story to examine a different aspect of the criminal justice system that disproportionately impacts Black America. STORY The Badder, The Better: Bobby Shmurda (Pt 1) Just like his legendary disappearing hat, Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda's career was on the rise in 2014. But so was the evidence in a murder case against his crew, GS9. In the first of three episodes exploring Bobby's story, we look at his come-up through the eyes of former Epic Records exec Sha Money XL, who guided Bobby on his tightrope walk from the streets to superstardom. What happens when the industry capitalizes on a criminal persona? And do record execs have the juice to back Bobby up when things get too hot? Content Advisory: This story contains strong language and the mention of drug use and guns. Sensitive listeners, please be advised. Be sure to visit Louder Than A Riot to hear Part 2 and 3 of Bobby Shmurda’s story and listen to more incredible episodes. Follow the show on Twitter @LouderThanARiot and subscribe! To hear the music in this episode, check out the Louder Than A Riot playlists on Apple Music & Spotify. Louder Than A Riot is hosted by NPR Music's Rodney Carmichael and Sidney Madden, this podcast is invested in power from all angles — the power the music industry wields over artists, the power of institutional forces that marginalize communities of color, the power of the prison industrial complex and the power dynamics deep-rooted in the rap game. Two young men grow up just blocks apart, each with aspirations to make it big. But while Bobby Shmurda sees his dreams come true, Bryan Antoine is killed by members of Bobby's crew. This is the story that lingers between the lyrics of Bobby's viral hit, "Hot N****." We talk to the family grieving Bryan's loss and review hours of incriminating GS9 phone calls. How does the true story behind the song complicate stereotypes about gang affiliation? And what does the pursuit of justice mean in a neighborhood where labels like "victim" and "perpetrator" can be interchangeable?

Jason interviews Dan Jamison about updates to the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) Guide. The FERSGUIDE is authored by Dan Jamison, CPA. Dan retired in 2013 from the FBI after 21 years as a Special Agent Accountant. Dan started writing the FERSGUIDE over 20 years ago, when the document lurked around only in the FBI's email system until the advent of the Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF) and then the FERSGUIDE spread from the JTTFs to the participating JTTF agencies where it quickly gained popularity outside of the FBI. Dan continuously updates the FERSGUIDE and adds new content. The FERSGUIDE now checks in at over 125 pages. The FERSGUIDE was a free resource until the release of the 2015 edition following Dan's retirement. The FERSGUIDE is published annually in December. The cost is $15 and the fee also provides website access until the end of the guide year. The website contains additional retirement resources such as a PowerPoint accompaniment to the FERSGUIDE. The 2018 FERSGUIDE will be posted to the website on 12/4/2017. There are two versions of the FERSGUIDE, one for Special Category Employees (SCEs) and one for Regular FERS employees. SCEs are primarily law enforcement officers, firefighters and air traffic controllers. Within the SCE version, there is one edition for those SCEs at the GS13+ grade at retirement and one edition for those at the GS9+ grade at retirement. The GS13+ and GS9+ guides are identical in content, but feature examples using the respective GS pay levels. If the FERSGUIDE does not meet your expectations, just send an email to them and your purchase price will be immediately refunded. If you are a new federal employee hired in the last 12 months, you can obtain a free 2018 FERSGUIDE subscription to help you start your federal career out right.
