“We don't actually know how many animals we're testing on in this country, because most of them are not protected by any laws. There's not even a requirement that you track their numbers.” – Delcianna Winders Today, I have the pleasure of sharing some genuinely promising news. For decades, the FDA and NIH have required or relied on animal testing as the gold standard for drug development and biomedical research. But that's beginning to change. Both agencies have just announced significant steps to reduce animal testing—moves that could mark a turning point in how science is done. The FDA is beginning to phase out animal testing requirements for certain new drug applications, starting with monoclonal antibody therapies, and is pushing forward the use of more ethical, human-relevant technologies—like organ-on-a-chip systems and advanced computer modeling. At the same time, the NIH is prioritizing human-based approaches and creating a new office dedicated to accelerating the development and adoption of these new methods across biomedical research. To help us understand what all of this means, what led to these changes, and what still needs to happen, I'm joined by Delci Winders, director of the Animal Law and Policy Institute at Vermont Law and Graduate School. Delci is one of the leading voices at the intersection of law, science, and animal protection—and she's here to walk us through this historic shift.

Going from owning multiple successful businesses, fancy cars, and homes to living in a van and couch surfing. How would your marriage survive this? Hopefully, you'll never have to find out but you can listen to this week's guests, Tim and Glori Winders, to find out how they did it. The 2008 recession destroyed their real estate business and by 2013 lost the other businesses, filed for bankruptcy, lost their home, and moved into the van. Yes, there were some finger-pointing, arguments, and other challenges in their marriage. But ultimately, they pulled together, leaned on each other for strength, and came back stronger. Even though they are professionally successful once again, they've chosen to live simply, be better stewards of their money, live in their motorhome Theo by choice, and make an impact. You'll definitely want to hear their story. Tim's website: https://timwinders.com/ Tim's podcast: https://seekgocreate.com/ Glori's website: https://liveglorified.com/ Questions How did you get through the bankruptcy? Glori, were you angry at Tim for putting you in this mess? You talk about prioritizing faith, family, then business in that order. Have you always thought that way or was there a before and after moment? What do you think about the “hustle” culture that we are raised in? Is it possible for an entrepreneur to rest? What did you learn during the season of everything, literally, being stripped away? You live and travel in a motorhome named Theo. Talk to us. We “lived” on the road for 6 weeks and it was exhausting toward the end. How do you do that full time without getting on each other's nerves? How do you have “me” time in a motorhome? Working together can be tough, how have you been able to have success doing it? How have balance in your life when you feel the tension of the demands of the business? Talk to us about your book Coach and "Read Through the Bible" Tim Winders and his wife Glori Winders are experienced public speakers, podcast hosts, and lifestyle entrepreneurs who aim to inspire and empower others. Married for over 35 years, the couple has built successful careers in business, ministry, coaching, writing, health, and more. In 2008, Tim lost his real estate companies in the market crash. By 2013, he and Glori were bankrupt and homeless, living in their Honda van. Since then, they have rebuilt their lives as nomadic entrepreneurs. They have been traveling full-time for over 10 years. For the last 5 years they have lived, worked, and traveled in their motorhome they lovingly call Theo. Tim is the host of the SeekGoCreate podcast, where he interviews guests on redefining success. He is also an executive coach and author of the inspirational novel Coach. Glori founded Live Glorified, a faith-based lifestyle brand for women. She created the popular "Read Through the Bible" program and Bible Dashboard. With their experience overcoming adversity, Tim and Glori provide wisdom and perspective on pursuing purpose and living life to the fullest. As devoted parents of two grown children and grandparents of two, they understand balancing family, faith, and work. Audiences appreciate the couple's authenticity, humor, and compassion. Tim and Glori's story of loss, renewal, and nomadic entrepreneurship offers inspiration to anyone going through life transitions or seeking to live a non-traditional lifestyle. The song “Replacement” on A CHORUS OF DISAPPROVAL's “Truth Gives Wings to Strength” LP is something of a cause célebre in the hardcore scene. Released in 1990, this song seemed to come with its own set of history behind it that was completely separate from the band itself. CHORUS Guitarist Jeff Banks explains this version presented here, culled from a practice demo that, despite saying it was VISUAL DISCRIMINATION, was really a pre-cursor to the eventual Visual Discrimination of Nemesis Records lore... “Jeff Simmerman, Dan Fisher and Derek Alford had this Peace Punk band out of Lakewood, CA with a working title of Visual Discrimination. Simmerman got kicked out of Artesia high school and started going to Cerritos and we got to talking in auto shop. Steve Winders, Tim Sawyer and I were in Dead Tradition with Tim's brother Byron and some guy named Morgan. Morgan was a great drummer, but I wasn't his favorite guy. Jeff Simmerman invited me to his house to jam. Turned out Derek Alford was just learning and couldn't really play the guitar, so it became Fisher and Simmerman and me. We got this kid David Hauck to sing a couple practices. I had written a few riffs, and Replacement was written at this time. I was such a huge Stalag 13 fan that I was trying to channel the song In Control through Replacement. When Dead Tradition kind of fizzled, I told Fisher and Simmerman that I have these two guys that could probably round out the lineup nicely. That's when Sawyer and Winders came into the fold. We played as that lineup for a little while and then the band split up into two factions. Fisher, Sawyer and Simmerman started a true Peace Punk band called Non-fiction with a guy named George Contreras from Cerritos. They recorded a demo and it was great. Very Discharge meets Iconoclast and locals peace punk band 5th Column. Steve Winders and I started a Straight Edge band in the mold of Uniform Choice called Denial with Steve's brother Jeff and some guy in my biology class named Rory Cowan. We recorded a 12-song demo, and Replacement in its most polished form was on that demo. After about a year, both bands fizzled. We decided to reform and combined Nonfiction and Denial, including the songs, etc. We needed a bass player, and there was this kid named Junior Beloki, who was in a history class where I was the teacher assistant. So I asked him if he would be interested and he was. So he became the bass player. That was the lineup for the demo and the first record. I always thought the Non-fiction songs were stronger than the Denial songs I had written. Replacement was cut and relegated. Once Chorus got going, many of the old Cerritos Straight Edge crew were calling for old Denial songs. The people on that montage on the Chorus record calling for Replacement are Gary Hornberger, Boxer Hardison, my dad, my mom, my high school basketball coach Don Saul and one of my old City of Cerritos supervisors Ernest Vital. He was the guy we all picked up the phrase 'Dud' from when we thought something was weak. We all still say to this day." Key Takeaways Discovering our true nature and purpose is a lifelong journey. There are various characteristics and traits that define us, and these qualities evolve over time. A transformation in one's faith can lead to a fundamental shift in values and perspective on life. Instead of treating spirituality as a resource to turn to only in times of trouble, it can be a consistent and integral part of one's business endeavors. Effective communication and genuine interest in what matters to others can lead to stronger connections and partnerships. Success should be redefined on an individual basis, rather than trying to emulate others. It's essential to discover one's unique definition of success. Tim Winders is a executive coach, author, and host of SeekGoCreate, a podcast and YouTube interview show. He has worked in the areas of leadership, business, and ministry for almost 40 years. Tim was the guy that looked like he had it all: the big house in a Country Club resort, two businesses valued at over a million dollars each, plus over $15 million in real estate. But, in 2008, the real estate markets crashed. After a slow and painful erosion of his companies, he and his wife were bankrupt and homeless living out of their Honda van by 2013. Fast forward to today, Tim and his wife are still homeless, but they consider themselves essential nomads. They live, travel, and work in their 39-foot motorhome while enjoying the best locations North America has to offer. Through this journey, he is convinced that we must redefine success in order to live our best life. This topic is what he has explored with his guests on the SeekGoCreate podcast since 2019. His inspirational novel titled, Coach: A Story of Success Redefined released in May 2022. He believes that it is essential to plan and be intentional about where we spend our time and energy. 00:02:12 - Helping People Out of Suffering, Chris explains that he helps people get out of their suffering, even though it is not something he markets. He says that his clients want a higher level of peace of mind so that they can enjoy their life at a higher level. 00:05:31 - COVID and Mortality and Change, Chris observes that people don't usually talk about their mortality, and COVID has made people more aware of it. He believes that the pandemic has resulted in a reset, and people are valuing their life, health, and family more. He has noticed that people are willing to make changes in their lives. 00:09:41 - Looking Inward and Finding Core Values, Tim and Chris discuss how the pandemic has made people look inward and find their core values, rather than living superficial lives. They emphasize the importance of understanding and answering the question of "who am I?" and "what is my purpose?" to live intentionally. 00:12:28 - Illusions of Identity and Language, Chris talks about the two questions he asks his clients: "Who am I?" and "What is my purpose?" He believes these questions are illusions because most people answer with a label, job title, or role they play 00:14:36 - Relationship with Something Beyond Ourselves, Chris discusses chapter three of his book, which explores the idea of a relationship with something beyond ourselves. He shares examples of how exploring this relationship has helped some of his clients shift their lives and overcome trauma from their past. 00:21:08 - Privately Held Family Business, Chris explains that his primary niche is privately held family businesses, which make up about 75% of his work. He contrasts these businesses with Corporate America, where decisions are often driven by the bottom line and quarterly objectives, and explains that family businesses often prioritize values like caring for employees and making a positive impact on the world. 00:23:50 - Differences in Business Structures, Chris explores the differences between privately held family businesses, publicly held companies, and private equity firms. He notes that publicly held companies and private equity firms often prioritize the bottom line and stock performance, while family businesses often prioritize values like caring for employees and making a positive impact on the world. 00:25:59 - Impact of Work, Tim and Chris discuss their experiences working in Corporate America and how it can be more difficult to have a meaningful impact on clients and the world. They both emphasize that they prioritize making a positive impact with their work, and that this is often easier to do when working with privately held family businesses. 00:27:23 - Prioritizing Values, Chris shares an example of how he prioritized his employees during the COVID-19 pandemic by continuing paying them while he took no pay. 00:28:53 - The Complications of Family Dynamics in Business, Chris discusses the complexity of family and business relationships and how dysfunction in one can impact the other. He highlights the importance of addressing conflicts and challenging beliefs and narratives that may no longer serve the family business. 00:31:10 - The Importance of Loyalty in Family Businesses, Chris and Tim discuss the idea of loyalty in family businesses. Chris emphasizes the need to question what one is loyal to and the importance of creating new narratives and beliefs that serve the family business's long-term goals. 00:33:59 - Creating Space for Mindful Practices, Chris emphasizes the importance of creating space in one's schedule to engage in mindful practices such as meditation, breathwork, and exercise. He suggests starting with small increments of time and gradually building up to create a new habit. 00:38:50 - The Catalysts for Personal Growth, Chris shares his personal journey towards personal development and growth. He opens up about his difficult upbringing and how his pursuit of personal development helped him overcome his self-doubts and transform his life. 00:40:42 - The Power of Coaching for Personal Growth, Chris discusses the importance of hiring coaches to help in personal development. He emphasizes the value of having someone to guide and challenge one's beliefs and help them overcome their limitations. 00:42:46 - Finding Your Purpose, Chris Yonker emphasizes the importance of finding one's purpose and journey in life. He believes that having self-awareness and identifying one's core values are essential for personal transformation. Working with a coach or mentor can help individuals identify and address their blind spots and develop self-awareness. 00:44:05 - Redefining Success, Yonker and Winders discuss how success can be defined differently for different individuals. They mention the importance of being able to live the lifestyle one wants, such as spending time with loved ones or traveling. Yonker believes that being intentional and investing in oneself can help overcome the pain associated with spending money or time. 00:48:28 - The Value of Coaching, Yonker believes that working with a coach or mentor is essential for personal growth and transformation. Coaches can help individuals develop self-awareness, address their blind spots, and navigate their path in life. However, it is important to work with an experienced and conscious coach who can avoid projecting their own worldview onto their clients. 00:51:18 - Time and Perception, Yonker discusses how time is a human construct, used for measurement and planning. He believes that emotions are contextualized by time and that being present in the moment is important for finding meaning and connection. Yonker recommends being intentional and investing time in being present with loved ones and pursuing one's passions. 00:53:48 - How to Connect with Chris Yonker, ChrisYonker.com 00:55:49 - The Value of Thought-Provoking Content, The host wraps up the episode by highlighting the importance of thought-provoking content that challenges individuals to think critically and expand their perspectives. Tim ends the episode by urging listeners to continue being true to themselves and fulfilling their potential. Key Lessons: Understanding the beliefs and narratives of a family business is crucial to working effectively with them. Having a mentor or coach can help individuals identify their blind spots and drive transformation. Success is relative and it's important to have perspective and understand that there is a bigger picture. The pandemic has forced people to slow down and reflect on their priorities and make changes in their personal and business lives. Creating space and intentionally blocking out time for things like self-care and family time is important for achievers who tend to over-schedule. Incorporating spirituality and exploring a relationship with something beyond oneself can help individuals find fulfillment and purpose in life. Tim Winders and Amber discuss Christian leadership, building your own kingdom vs. building God's kingdom. Questions Discussed During Leaders: Are You Building God's Kingdom or Your Own?: You have held positions of leadership throughout your career. What have been a few of those roles and are there any areas of leadership you would say early on were not Christlike that you walk through a transformation period to become more Christlike? You recently shared an episode on Seek. Go. Create. titled The 3 Biggest Leadership mistakes, which you name as apathy, self-focus, and chaos. Will you share a little about each one and the impact those mistakes often have on those who are being led? What prompted me to share a series on leadership is a book titled The Call to Follow: Hearing Jesus in a Culture Obsessed with Leadership. When you hear that title, what thoughts are evoked in you? How do you think our churches, organizations, non-profits and individuals would change if leaders began teaching and training more on followership and less about leadership? What advice about followership would you give to people in leadership? In a world, where the prevalent messaging is to be EXTRAORDINARY, end with a few practices that can help us be ordinary faithful followers of Jesus? Show Notes cont. The Reverend and the Reprobate sit down with Reverend friend, Dr Ryan Winders. Dr. Winders talks about his journey to collect every game released on the original Nintentdo Entertainment System. Ryan tells the @RevRepPodcast how he was able to finish this incredible collection and then proceeds to tell them one of the craziest stories in WWE history infamously known as the "Montreal Screw Job" While at the University of Kentucky, Ryan majored in Secondary Mathematics Education, receiving His Bachelor's in 2005 and my Master's in 2007. During my time there, He was involved in Alpha Tau Omega, serving as the Chaplain for 1 year; UK Choristers and Men's Chorus; and the Baptist Student Union, where He served in several offices. Ryan also was a founding member of an organization called "The Rock" which was a non-denominational Christian organization aimed at Fraternity and Sorority members. The summers of his college years & post-college years were full of adventure. He served as a Financial Director for LifeWay Christian Resources for 7 summers, and was fortunate enough to travel the country and meet people from all walks of life. Ryan worked in Florida, Tennessee, Maryland, West Virginia, Michigan, South Carolina, California, New Mexico, Kentucky, and Hawaii. After college, he worked as a High School Math Teacher in Lexington, KY at several different high schools, gaining valuable experience in a multitude of backgrounds. At first, he worked solely with ESL students and refugees and middle-class families in the public school system before moving to a private Christian school. It was during this time that He chose to complete his second Master's in Guidance Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands. After completing two years of a Master's in one year, Ryan accepted a position as a Guidance Counselor at George Rogers Clark High School. While there, He worked with 10th-12th Graders and created a College and Career Readiness system that helped the school become a "School of Distinction". After three years as a guidance counselor, Ryan began to work on his Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership at Morehead State University. He completed his Dissertation in 2019 titled, "Preparing Students for the Next Level: Using 3:1 Supports to Eliminate the Transition Gap". His research was based off a program implemented at Frankfort High School in Frankfort, KY. The high school uses a combination of technology, community members/resources, and local college resources to give students more responsibility of their own education, while holding them accountable in all aspects of student growth. After graduating with my Ed.D., He accepted his current position as Assistant Professor of Education at Union College in Barbourville, KY. At Union, Ryan teaches Graduate and Undergraduate classes in the areas of Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Mathematics, and Professional Writing - while also serving as the Education Department's Assessment Coordinator and swim coach Check out Ryan Here: insta: https://www.instagram.com/winders111/ Rev and Rep Linktr.ee (all the show links can be found below) https://linktr.ee/revreppodcast

162 – How do you define success?Too many people today define success by how much money they have, their career, the things they have, their education, and lots of other externals. But we need to redefine what success really is according to Tim Winders, my guest this week.Tim made some very insightful observations about success:Redefining success is about busting up the Babylonian or worldly system of approaching life and business and how success is defined. And then asking 'What does the kingdom of God success look like? That's really the bottom line.'What is success in the kingdom of heaven? Are you walking in the assignment God has given you?The three types of language Jesus used with different types of peopleWhy brokenness often causes us to finally turn to God for helpTo be a good leader, you need a relationship with your CreatorThe difference between the Babylonian approach to success and the kingdom of heaven approachservant leadership and steward leadershipI also asked Tim three final questions:If you could talk to anyone in the Bible other than Jesus, who would it be? Who do you identify with in the Bible? How does Jesus really want us to live our lives?Tune it to hear his answers.Subscribe to the podcastResources: Website: timwinders.comBook: Coach - A Story of Success Redefined*For Tim's bio and the Bible verses mentioned go to thebiblespeakstoyou.com/162Previous episodes mentioned:155 – Aramaic in the New Testament with Roy Gessford160 – Why Does the Sabbath Still Matter Today?* Affiliate linkSupport the show_________________________James Early, the Jesus Mindset Coach, is a Bible teacher, speaker, and podcaster. This week I sat down with Professor Delcianna J. Winders, Professor and Animal Law and Policy Institute Director at the Vermont Law School. Professor Winders is a total rock star in the exploding area of animal law. Prior to joining the Vermont Law School faculty and founding the Animal Law and Policy Institute, Professor Winders was on the faculty of Lewis & Clark Law School. She previously served as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Foundation, was the first Academic Fellow of the Harvard Animal Law & Policy Program, and a visiting scholar at the Elizabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. We touch on just a few of the many fascinating issues included under the broad umbrella of animal law, including Professor Winders' judicial successes involving the Animal Welfare Act, her thoughts on alternatives to animal testing, how the concept of one health intersects with animal law, the role of restorative justice in animal and chemical law, and much more. This week we had so much fun interviewing Clay & Steffany Winder. Enjoy listening while we talk about how Steff tells us how ALL her "non-negotiables" slowly adjusted over time while she (a Republican) fell for Clay (a Democrat) and how we can all learn from having conversations with those who look at things differently than us. And how doing so could possibly lead to marriage ;) Let's just say they had enough differences that they ended up creating a contract for marriage, before tying the knot. Might be some wisdom in there for the rest of us. Listen to their story and learn how they make it all work. This ep was a little less trash-filled than the first three, but don't worry we can still find plenty of reasons to dislike Marcus and Brenda's husband. This week we realize that the Joneses are the Winders of this season (but far less wholesome), that India is far too good for Marcus, and that we stan Brenda. Is that what the young folks say? Stan? Anyhoo... Join us on Patreon! We're covering old episodes of Seeking Sister Wife, so catch up with us now and new season 4 episodes will be on our free feed this summer! It's sad but true that our national legacy includes crimes against humanity. The tragic story of the Marshal Islands. Other atolls have also paid the price. A few survivors look back. Exposure claims and the downgrade legacy of lies. Porous coral waste dumps and short term solutions. Now it's climate change that's threatening. Pacific horrors and the evil deals made. All boxes ticked on the worst of crimes checklist. Offering a fifty million payoff after destroying their nation. The ghost team and Bikini Atoll. They call it the dome, but it's really a tragedy. Iodine, radiation and the new tourist industry. There were bio weapons tests too. Even crypto's started here. This was the proving grounds for the Cold War. As always, the civilian population pays the tragic historical price. Stay strong because there is much more truth to come. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
