Four years ago almost to the day we released a podcast with veteran UK pilot/adventurer Tim Pentreath that explored his "Gumball Rally"- a vol biv adventure open to anyone in the Alps every summer. At that time Tim and his friends were just getting getting started. This show is a follow up with Tim to find out how it's been going. The answer- quite well indeed! The Gumball continues to grow, continues to generate a ton of smiles, and they continue to cover a lot of very cool ground.

Are we enabling FOX's abusive nature by dredging up Drive, one of Tim Minear's many sufferings at the hands of the network? Doesn't matter, because we can't even wait for the record button to get pressed before we start. The SEVENTH entry in our Wacky Races mini-series is (somewhat?) at the mid-point of our ever-growing exploration of ensemble movies centered on a competition where the rules of the game break the rules of society. Wade & Siggy discuss the welcome spirit The Gumball Rally brings to the genre, how conflicts that are set up but never come into play are just fine, the raw sexuality of Raúl Juliá, where has Tricia O'Neal been all our lives, a novel way of mooning people, and ticking off more boxes of the series' use of elements from Spy Hunter. GUMBALL!!!! SENSITIVITY WARNING: This episode includes discussion of the film's use of the threat of sexual assault. Next Episode: Scavenger Hunt (1979)

"Let's play some baseball, okay? Not the lazy game!" - Disney's Meet the Robinsons. This week, we're talking about the 2023 Mice Chat Gumball Rally! If you've been around for a bit, you'll know that this is the 2nd Gumball Rally we've participated in, and we had just as much fun this time as we did last year - when we won! We don't know the results for this year's rally yet (hopefully any day now!) but we know that this is an event we plan to participate in for many years to come! We stayed at the Howard Johnsons Anaheim this trip, and as always, had a perfect stay! Our room was amazing, and we love the quick walk to the main gates of Disneyland! If you're headed to Anaheim any time soon, consider a stay at the Hojo! Visit https://www.hojoanaheim.com/?utm_source=affiliate&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=Ropedrop.Parkhop and use the code 1000022077 for 15% off your stay. Be sure to request one of the newly renovated rooms in buildings 1 and 2 - we really loved our extra large room this time, room 2219. We also want to thank our sponsor, Mouse World Travel. Bun B is an American rapper, best known as one half of the southern rap duo UGK (UnderGround Kingz), a group he formed in 1987 alongside Pimp C. Aside from his work with UGK, Bun B has released five solo albums, including 2010's Trill OG, which received the rare 5-mic rating from The Source. He is also a guest lecturer at Rice University, located in Houston, Texas. Bun B joins Steven to talk about their shared experiences at the Gumball Rally, the value of your network, the power of shared experiences and how they act as great levellers amongst humanity, the incredible work he is doing in the food space and how a better diet can give you a better chance every day. KEY TAKEAWAYS Connecting with people is one of the most valuable and powerful things in life. Your network is your net worth. Possessions pass, achievements fade, but people and connections last a lifetime. Fast food gives you a quick rush of energy, but the long term result can often be damaging. We need to make sure that we put better things into ourselves for long term gains. Language is one of the most powerful tools we possess. We should treat it as one of our greatest assets and work on developing it each day. BEST MOMENTS 'It's amazing, the kind of extended brotherhood you gain by becoming a Gumballer' 'I savour opportunities to extend friendship' 'What a beautiful world that we live in' 'It should be fulfilling, but not filling' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Steven Sulley Study Bun B Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/bunb/?hl=en ABOUT THE HOST The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. Bruce and @TheRealDrKev are joined by former horsewoman, supermodel, and racing driver Jodie Kidd…and can't believe their luck when they discover that she's also the proud landlady of an award-winning gastropub with its very own beer! In the process of trying to blag themselves a table, Kev and Bruce delve into precisely what it takes to strut one's stuff on Chanel's iconic catwalk and explore similarities in mindset between the world's top models and elite sportspeople. Most of us learn to walk at an early age – but are some of us just better at it than others? Is enhanced body awareness something that leading fashionistas, champion showjumpers, and Formula 1superstars have in common? And what about the dark side of modelling: depression, substance abuse, and eating disorders? As Kev tries to rope Bruce into the kooky chaos of the madcap Gumball Rally, and Jodie confesses an interest in flying, we discover that when it comes to the psychology of runways aviation and haute couture aren't quite as different as they seem. You can listen to and watch longer episodes of Psycho Schizo Espresso AD FREE if you become a Patreon at www.patreon.com/psychoschizoespressoTo access the YouTube version of this episode ofPsycho Schizo Espresso, please visit https://youtu.be/wA_guPNYGKkPlease make sure you like, subscribe, rate, review and comment wherever you get your Podcasts from. Tim Burton, known professionally as Shmee150 or Shmee, is a British car vlogger and YouTuber, who is based in London. His YouTube channel has two million subscribers and features videos of him traveling to see exotic cars and maintaining and using his own car collection. Shmee 150 joins Steven this week for a very special episode dedicated to the supercar dream, the exploits and adventures of the Gumball Rally, the future of cars and racing in a more sustainable world, and how to take your talents to the world through the use of social media. KEY TAKEAWAYS The advancement in technology when it comes to the power behind cars means that while fundamental answers will evolve, the core appeal of racing and supercars will remain. Electric cars can recreate the achievements and standards of internal combustion engine-driven cars, but they can't seem to recreate the feeling. There's only so far you can get by coasting on your routine and your past success. If you want to hit the real heights, then you need to work harder and push higher. Video content has evolved over time. People used to crave short form entertainment, but now have gotten used to more in-depth content. BEST MOMENTS 'There will be electric supercars and hypercars' 'What you get from a car with an engine, is a feeling...' 'If you can get 90% of the traffic for 10% of the work, ten that is much better than putting in another 90% of the work to get that 10% of the traffic' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Steven Sulley Study Shmee 150 - https://shmee150.com ABOUT THE HOST The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. Tuesday July 26, 2022 - Guest: You After a lot of weekend, it's James Bond Tuesday! But only because of the Aston Martin Vantage F1 press car we're driving... we don't really talk about Bond. It's ACTUALLY "What would YOU like to see night?" The show expertly shifts from a hugely successful Avants launch party @ The Petersen to an electronic disagreement with our Aston Martin, as the Ryans have a Vantage F1 for a week; it's exciting, fast, comfortable, and a reviewing pleasure. More to come on that.
Lamorne Morris is an American actor, comedian and television personality. He is best known for his role as Winston Bishop in the Fox sitcom New Girl (2011-2018). He has also had supporting roles in the films Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016), Game Night (2018), Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), and Yesterday (2019). Lamorne joins Steven to talk about his family and upbringing, how he has become a household name around the world, and the shared stories of their recent experience together in the Gumball Rally. KEY TAKEAWAYS When you are raised by go-getters, that sense of purpose and thirst for something better, impacts your entire life from then onwards. Connecting with people should always be our first priority in life. Life is far better and more enriched by the presence and gifts of others. Opportunities come and go, but if you don't take them when they arrive, you might regret it for the rest of your life. Always try to be open minded. Dreams are the real fuel to success. Even the most successful people were at the bottom once. The ones who reach the top are the ones who use their dreams as rocket fuel to keep pushing higher. BEST MOMENTS 'The most important thing is connecting with new people' 'If I hadn't done this, I would've regretted it for the rest of my life' 'You have to go through the rough patch' "you have to dare to shoot your shot' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Steven Sulley Study Lamorne Morris Twitter - www.twitter.com/LamorneMorris ABOUT THE HOST The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. This episode I sat down with the brilliant John Marcar! John is one of the hosts of the Driven Chat podcast and Radio show, amongst other things.. It was an absolute pleasure talking to John and putting him in the interviewee seat for a change, from his time working on the Gumball Rally, to running his own car tours business, there's some real gems to listen to.
In this special episode, recorded in Miami and direct from the Gumball Rally, Steven talks to YouTube sensation and lifestyle influencer, Mr JWW, whose channel has attracted 160 million views and who commands a global social audience of over 1.5 million in 2021. Mr JWW talks candidly about his rise to success in the world of social media, how film changed his life, how consistency can help you to build a following, and of course, about his burning passion for some of the world's most special automobiles. KEY TAKEAWAYS Never let any challenges you have in life, stand in the way of what you dream about. You can always overcome a setback and reach your goals. Building a consistent following on social media is all about being consistent yourself. Post often and make sure you're turning out quality content. Buying equipment so as to bolster the content you make - investing in the items that fuel your content creation - is always a wise investment. Many see these things as luxury purchases, but they are necessities in terms of growing your reach. When audiences grow, the opportunities come far more quickly. This can lead to different revenue streams. Earning money from social media doesn't just come from selling advertising space. BEST MOMENTS 'I never believed this would gain the traction it did' 'When I had a camera pointed on me, I could talk - no problem at all' 'You need to post consistently. Three times a week - minimum!' 'One week on the rally is enough for a decade's worth of stories' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Steven Sulley Study Mr JWW - https://www.mrjww.com ABOUT THE HOST The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. Joining us in "The So Cal Car Scene" is Linda Vaughn or, as many of your know her as “Miss International Raceway" at the young age of 18 and has acquired many other titles since then, including Miss Hurst Golden Shifter. She was also chosen to be the Queen of the Dixie 400 in 1961 and Miss Firebird. Vaughn has been a notable ambassador and promoter of various forms of American motor racing for decades. In 1979, Linda was awarded the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) “Person of the Year” and was inducted into the SEMA hall of fame 8 years later. She appeared in the 1976 film The Gumball Rally, and the 1983 film Stroker Ace. She was just recently inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2019. Enjoy this enlightening and hilarious conversation with Linda as she highlights her incredible life with the "who's who" of racing like Don Garlits, movies and notable entertainers like Dolly Pardon and Burt Reynolds. Linda is a fountain of energy and an incredible story teller with an infectious laugh...enjoy!
Fifty years ago, automotive journalist Brock Yates and Car and Driver editor Steve Smith conceived the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, a timed race from East Coast to West Coast of America. The first “Cannonball Run” from New York City to the Portofino Inn in Redondo Beach, California, was covered in a widely-read article, and the race was run four more times throughout the ‘70s. By the end of the decade, a movie was in the works, to be written by Yates and helmed by stuntdriver-turned-director Hal Needham. Two 1976 films - Cannonball and The Gumball Rally - beat Yates' and Needham's film to the screen, but their 1981 film - which boasted Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, and Farrah Fawcett leading a stacked cast - became the sixth highest-grossing film of the year and remains an enduring classic. Now, forty years later, we're putting pedal to metal and checking out The Cannonball Run! For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Loxley Brown joins us to talk about Athena Racing, a nonprofit dedicated to opening doors for young women into the transportation industry, we talk about Trivia Czars, favorite movies about cars, rescuing cars displayed without their consent, and Dave's probably possessed Jeep. First up is a straw poll on electing Tim as our Trivia Czar and how we all rode the struggle bus to either narrow down or fill a top 5 list of our favorite movies about cars. With Ben as the voice of reason, we all shared one from our list, which included Smoke Signals, The Gumball Rally, Risky Business, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, and Herbie The Love Bug. Dawn realized she cared more about the cars being damaged than the people in her choices. Ben Takes A Moment to continue our theme of cars in movies, touching on The Spy Who Loved Me, his previous job as security for a TV production (he touched the cars), and the virtual fleet of cars destroyed in TV and movie classics. We discuss rescuing the Miami Vice Testarossa from a Florida flea market while Misty offers to coordinate bail for the group stateside. Many disclaimers followed. We also pondered a road trip to a car museum in Miami with a truly massive James Bond transportation collection and talked about some poor marketing choices. Instead of news, Misty tried to answer Dave's conundrum about his 2008 Jeep Wrangler X horn issues. The first conclusion was that Dave needed to call a priest (we're moving up from nuns in this episode), another possible issue was the plastic housing expanding in the heat, or Dave has a moisture problem. In the end, Misty decided that Dave has a 1 in a 7 billion problem or maybe it's just a relay. And yes, Mickey, there are Episcopalian Nuns. Loxley Brown, head of Athena Racing, joins us to talk about her nonprofit efforts to open doors for young women across the globe into careers in the transportation industry. Athena Racing is dedicated to giving young women the knowledge and tools to follow their dreams into any segment of the transportation via summer camps, workshops, and monthly projects. We welcome your support via Patreon and your questions and feedback via our website.

In this episode Marty and Chris compare two films where one inspired the other; The Gumball Rally (1976) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074597/) and Gumball 3000: The Movie (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390067/). But first, we celebrate the Oscar success of Ford vs Ferrari (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1950186/), with insight into the VFX process (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BFXcnBtpGA) and the difference between sound editing and mixing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GyqrRu492Q). Motorsport.tv (https://www.motorsport.tv) have released Heroes (https://motorsport.tv/motorsporttv/video/heroes-full-movie/30339), Chris gives his opinion both on the network and Heroes. An Eleanor hero car from Gone in 60 Seconds (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0187078/) has been sold (https://www.motorious.com/articles/news/385673/1967-ford-mustang-gone-in-60-seconds) and already listed for sale (https://www.s9shop.com/products/gone-in-60-seconds-eleanor-screenused-hero-car). In researching this, Chris turned up some interesting history on Tina, the '996' Porsche (https://bestmoviecars.com/porsche-996-tina-from-gone-in-60-seconds-2000/) that's stolen at the start of the film. In the run up to No Time to Die (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2382320/) a stunt car DB5 replica has been driven by some outlets, with a good writeup on Pistonheads (https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-driven/james-bonds-aston-martin-db5--driven/41881). This reminded Marty of an old video of The Mercedes C63 AMG Experiment - /CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPh90yNX-mY). Season 2 of Drive to Survive (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEY3Q43aE_c) is being released on Netflix Feb 28th! For this episode Marty revisits 1970's New York with The Gumball Rally (1976) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074597/) while Chris goes San Francisco to Miami with Gumball 3000: The Movie (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390067/). In this week's online highlights, Marty picked a Smoking Tire podcast with Fielding Shredder (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Os_dhGmW2M) while Chris nearly picked Mauro Calo driving his Nissan GT-R camera car filming a Nissan GT-R for a NIssan advert in a Nissan behind the scenes video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhS2lXiWKzY) but at the last minute he chose Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer: Henry Catchpole’s Definitive Road Review (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogsV9LbDgOM) If you want to tell us if we’re right, wrong or to share something we should be looking at, get in touch via the following channels: Twitter: @AutomoviePod (https://twitter.com/automoviepod) Facebook: AutomoviePodcast (https://fb.me/AutomoviePodcast) Email: comments@automoviepodcast.com (mailto:comments@automoviepodcast.com)

You are in for a treat with this episode. Adam Rocke joins the podcast to chat writing and Hollywood and to remind us just how ridiculous life can be. Hear about his many fascinating moments, from Quentin Tarantino insulting him, to Steven Seagal insulting him, to him insulting Tobey Maguire...hmm, sensing a theme here. In any case, I asked Adam if he wanted to pen his own bio for this episode, and he tackled it with style and aplomb. You'll learn that's the status quo after listening. Inspired by Hunter S. Thompson's "gonzo journalism," Adam Rocke's unusual skill set (firearms/weaponry expert, martial arts/tactical/CQB training, international auto racing license) combined with hardcore adrenaline junkie tendencies resulted in countless high octane articles for hip men’s lifestyle publications (Maxim/Stuff Razor/Robb Report/etc.). When editors had a wild story idea that could get a journalist maimed or killed, Adam was the go-to scribe. Somehow he always came back alive and intact—with the story! These participatory adventures resulted in Adam being shot, stabbed, tazed, stun-gunned, maced, sapped, zapped, brass knuckled, pepper-sprayed, arm-barred, knee-barred, knocked out, choked out, body-slammed, roundhouse-kicked and water-boarded long before "enhanced interrogation" became a household term. Adam has dived for pirate treasure in the Caribbean, hunted for poachers in Africa, played poker with cartel kingpins in Juarez, scouted for UFOs in the Sonora Desert, raced in the Baja 1000 and the Gumball Rally, swam with great white sharks sans cage, jumped out of a plane sans parachute, and taken part in Sasquatch safaris, Chupacabra expeditions and many other “crypto-quests” around the world. Adam eventually graduated to writing books. He currently has more than thirty titles in print (fiction and nonfiction, credited and ghosted), all from mainstream publishers. Adam’s “final literary frontier” is screenwriting, and he's been fortunate to option or sell more than a dozen original screenplays, along with performing numerous work-for-hires, writing or rewriting scripts for both established and up-and-coming producers and filmmakers. The bulk of today's Podcast concerns Adam's recently published novel, The Death Dealer, which was inspired from a 1998 Maxim article of the same name, where Adam went to Africa with an old acquaintance—a former mercenary with a sketchy past—to hunt poachers.

We LOVE the original Cannonball Run movie from Hal Needham, so when we found these two movies that came out in 1976 ( 5 years BEFORE Cannonball Run ) that tell similar, fictionalized tales of the true story that inspired that later film...we had to cover them on the podcast! We start of with Cannonball from show-favorite Paul Bartel, with a great cast of regulars from the Roger Corman camp that focuses on David Carradine as Cannonball Buckman, who's trying to get from California to New York City in his badass TransAm. It's a solid, but largely disposable flick with a ridiculous amount of incredible cameos. We follow that up with The Gumball Rally from stuntman-turned director Charles Bail. Starring Michael Sarazin and Raul Julia ( as well as many other familiar faces ) it is a true powerhouse of amazing stuntwork and film making...this one is awesome! We loved both of these movies and would love to hear what your favorite car-based movies are. Please send your thoughts and feedback to flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com.
