We took some Big Leadville Energy into this great episode! The main topic was the Silver Rush 50 Miler, which David raced on Saturday. The last few months have been a doozy, starting with the bike accident and severe concussion back in early April. It has been hard at times, in ways that go a lot deeper than athletics. This episode is about falling, and the power to GET. BACK. UP. The 50 Miler was David's best ultra yet, and it possibly sets up a date with destiny at the Leadville 100 in August (or not). It gave us an excuse to talk about so many fun topics: the decision to race after sickness, the non-linear mental health journey since the concussion, pre-race meals, Naked belts, road shoes in trail races, unconventional tapers, altitude racing, the logistics of high-carb fueling and how that relates to effort level, and whether to bicarb or not to bicarb. Plus lots more! And that was just the start of a celebration episode! Other topics: Tour de France stories including Mark Cavendish's legendary win record, embracing power and finding your strong, the most epic aero glasses, lessons from Klaire Rhodes' win at Mount Marathon, combining ketones and caffeine, the UK's ridiculous Olympic standards, Michelle Rohl's podium finish in racewalking at 58, and hot takes. David wore Hoka Mach Xs (a road shoe without any traction) for a 50 miler with tons of rocks. So maybe keep that in mind during his spicy shoe take at the end of this episode. Or better yet, treat it like advice from George Costanza, and do the opposite. We love you all! HUZZAH! In this fan-favorite episode of "Getting Back Up," Anthony Ogogo welcomes back Jax Feely, whose inspiring journey from Jessica to Jax has captivated listeners. Jax shares the intimate details of their transition, discussing the surgeries, the transformative impact of hormone therapy, and the unique challenges and joys of dating as a transgender person. They also delve into the critical issues of media representation and the importance of education and acceptance for the transgender community. This enlightening and popular conversation not only dispels myths but also provides valuable insights into the transgender experience. Tune in to revisit this powerful episode and deepen your understanding and appreciation of the transgender community. KEY TAKEAWAYS Transitioning is a personal journey and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Some individuals may choose to undergo surgeries, while others may opt for hormone therapy or other forms of transition. Hormone therapy, specifically testosterone for female-to-male transition, can have a significant impact on physical and emotional changes, such as facial hair growth, voice deepening, and emotional stability. Dating and relationships as a transgender person can be complex, but it ultimately comes down to individual connections and chemistry. Attraction is not solely based on physical characteristics. Education about gender identity and transgender issues should focus on promoting acceptance, understanding, and allowing individuals to explore their own identities without pressure or labels. Representation and media portrayal of transgender individuals can have a significant impact on public perception and acceptance. Clumsy or negative representations can perpetuate harmful stereotypes, while positive and accurate representation can foster understanding and empathy. BEST MOMENTS "So for me, I have had, I've begun taking testosterone approximately nearly, how long has it been? Two and a half years ago." "I'm so happy in myself now and how I look physically and, you know, that I can present with my chest and how I am and all those things." "I'm happy. My family's happier than ever. I'm happier, stronger mentally, emotionally, physically than I've ever been." "I think of the there's not enough representation yet. There's not enough. There's not enough safety. There's not enough acceptance that then causes the fear and the uproar." "I think it's just a massive lack of understanding. Obviously, when you've got people who have known you for a long time, those mistakes are going to happen, and we have to allow people to make those mistakes." HOST BIO Olympic medal-winning boxer, Anthony Ogogo, teetered on the brink of a world title before a career-ending eye injury left him mostly blind in one eye. You might think life as an NFL legend would be a cakewalk… but that's not been Jim Kelly's experience. The Buffalo Bills great has overcome more than his fair share of pain—from four straight Super Bowl losses, to a grim cancer diagnosis, to the death of his son from a rare neurological disorder. Like any great QB after a hard hit, each time Jim has gotten back up, dusted himself off, and kept going. In this aggressive conversation, Jim puts on a clinic around resilience and the lessons difficulty can teach.

In today's episode, Toni flips the script and shares the time she was interviewed by Anthony Ogogo on his podcast, Getting Back Up. Toni discusses her journey from being a girl from a council estate in Liverpool, to becoming a successful property investor and public speaker. Toni's leadership style is characterized by empathy and respect for others, making people feel valued and motivated to succeed. She emphasizes the importance of constantly learning and growing, both personally and professionally, to achieve success and make a positive impact. BEST MOMENTS "I am mum, wife, property investor, public speaker. That's me in a nutshell. Legend. And raising future legends." "Success changes day to day. Success is, you know, getting over hurdles. Success is achieving the small things to get to the big things." "I think I've achieved a lot in life, I'm very happy with what I've achieved. I've got some really, you know, proud moments, but there's always something more that you can do." "Without a shadow of a doubt, the first one that comes to mind was when my mum died when I was 21. It floored me. It was unexpected." "You make learning really fun. You and Robert did an amazing job and like you guys have the best time." HOST BIO Toni's journey defies the norm. Raised with a strong work ethic and a traditional career path in mind, she initially pursued a corporate job in HR after earning her degree. However, in 2015, everything changed when she attended a property training seminar. Little did she know that this event would ignite a profound passion for property investment. With her husband Chris, Toni raised millions in joint venture finance, creating a multi-million-pound property portfolio. But her story doesn't stop there. By the age of 33, she left her HR job behind to empower others in building their successful property businesses. Toni's passion for public speaking led her to become a world record holder. Beyond the accolades, she sees it as a calling to educate and inspire. Toni hosts training events and uses her "Talks with Toni" podcast to share insights, interview captivating guests, and motivate her audience.

This week Andrew talks with Olympic gold medalist Nick Baumgartner. In 2022, Nick won Olympic gold at the age of 40 years old — becoming the oldest medalist in Olympic snowboard history. Along the way, Nick worked summer jobs pouring concrete to fund his dream & lived out of an old construction van to reduce his commute time to training. When he didn't have access to his training facilities due to pandemic travel restrictions, Nick spent 30-hours building a pump track in his yard. Nick's story is a shining example of what's possible when we chase ambitious goals & are willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. In this episode of Us Anxious Folk, I share my recent mental health struggles - which saw an increase in panic but most notably, a heavy feeling of hopelessness. I discuss the pressure and weight of expectation, the need to keep up a facade of being 'okay', the compartmentalising that a lot of us tend to do (especially parents) and how when you lose yourself to a mental health dip, it seems like the more you grasp at wellness, the further away you fall. I talk about the non-negotiables for when I'm feeling this way - the things I know I need to do in order to safeguard myself, and the tiny little changes I made to start finding mental space again. Trigger Warning: this episode touches on feelings of hopelessness and suicidal ideation. “The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” — Nelson Mandela. I love this quote. If we didn't continue to rise after we fail or fall, we wouldn't have innovation, growth, new opportunities, and potentially a better life. Most people think it's only about having the ability to achieve X, Y, or Z. The reality is resilience, and the choice to keep getting up and moving forward is very powerful. Life with multiple chronic illnesses is physically and mentally challenging. Feelings of exhaustion and emotional fatigue crowd in with physical symptoms and can be overwhelming in your daily life. How do you find balance? How do you find a way forward and regain joy in your life? We posed these questions to Keeya Steel, founder of the popular Hells Bells and Mast Cells on social media. As someone who lives with POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome), and hEDS (hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), she is all too experienced at trying to find that balance. Keeya shares her journey through a childhood peppered with “you're making this up” accusations, as well as her diagnoses as an adult that brought relief and despair in equal measures. Keeya speaks openly about how humor helped her find her way forward through some dark days, and her decision to share that humor with the world. She shares her emotional journey to accepting her chronic illnesses and disabilities. Keeya also explains the online course she created with Dr. Linda Bluestein on optimizing medical appointments with complex illness, and why she wanted to share that course with others. Keeya reveals tips on getting the most out of doctor's appointments and discusses her experiences with finding new medical professionals. “In the end,” Keeya says, “I want people to be more open to hope and future joy.” An inspiring episode for us all so don't miss it! It can be hard when things don't go the way you've planned or if the business you've worked hard to build suddenly feels like it's sliding downward rather than growing and thriving. But how we handle these backslides, missteps, mistakes or even failures can indicate how we'll rebound and how we'll handle the next big challenge. I often think that backslides can be an invitation to grow bigger and to challenge what's really possible. But that's not always how I handled them and chances are it may not be how you're handling a backslide or bad situation in your life or business. This episode talks about how you can get better at handling adversity and really using it to reflect and grow.
We're joined in this episode by photographer Aaron King (@deepsnap). Aaron was formerly a professional football snapper until a series of bad concussions forced him to retire from sport for the sake of his health. After that he built a multi million dollar company from scratch only to have the pandemic wipe out his business. One of the major themes in this episode and through Aaron's story is resilience, and how to get back up again when life punches you in the mouth. The way Aaron discovered his love for photography and videography and how he came to realize his creative potential is inspiring. As well it seems Aaron has a new vision of what he wants out of life and has begun to realize what is truly important to him after being behind the lens and travelling through many parts of America with his cherished truck.
