In the following years she gained a Postgraduate Degree in Neurology. After practicing for five years as a Neurologist and three years as a Neurosurgeon, she started a family and moved to the UK.  It was during this time that Dr. Campbell-McBride developed her theories on the relationship between neurological disorders and nutrition, and completed a second Postgraduate Degree in Human Nutrition at Sheffield University, UK. She has specialized in using nutritional approach as a treatment, and has become recognized as one of the world's leading experts in treating children and adults with learning disabilities and other mental disorders, as well as children and adults with digestive and immune disorders. The concept of GAPS has become a global phenomenon and the book has been translated into 20 languages. In her clinic Dr Campbell-McBride works with many patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, stroke and other complications of atherosclerosis. She has become acutely aware of the existing confusion about nutrition and these conditions, which spurred an intensive study into this subject. The result of this study is her book Put Your Heart in Your Mouth! What really is Heart Disease and what can we do to Prevent and even Reverse it. The book was published in 2007 and a second addition in 2016. Dr Campbell-McBride has been working with many young people who have chosen a plant-based life style and, as a result, became very ill. This led to an intense study into the value of plant foods versus animal foods, summarised in her next book Vegetarianism Explained. Making and informed decision, published in 2017. In 2020 new book came out: Gut And Physiology Syndrome. This second GAPS book completes the GAPS concept, focussing on chronic physical health problems, from allergies, eczema and asthma to autoimmune illness, chronic fatigue and digestive problems, neurological and hormonal illnesses, and chronic infections. Dr Natasha is an organic regenerative farmer. In 2012 she and her family purchased a piece of land in East Anglia in the UK, which was commercially farmed for a long time. Today on Integrative Cancer Solutions I am joined by the founder and creator of the GAPS Diet Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride holds a degree in Medicine and Postgraduate degrees in both Neurology and Human Nutrition.  In her clinic in Cambridge she specialized in nutrition for children and adults with behavioral and learning disabilities, and adults with digestive and immune system disorders.Dr. Campbell-McBride set up The Cambridge Nutrition Clinic in 1998.  As a parent of a child diagnosed with learning disabilities, she was acutely aware of the difficulties facing other parents like her, and she has devoted much of her time to helping these families.  She realized that nutrition played a critical role in helping children and adults to overcome their disabilities, and has pioneered the use of probiotics in this field. She believes that the link between learning disabilities, the food and drink that we take, and the condition of our digestive system is absolute, and the results of her work have supported her position on this subject.  In her clinic, parents discuss all aspects of their child's condition, confident in the knowledge that they are not only talking to a professional but to a parent who has lived their experience.  Her deep understanding of the challenges they face puts her advice in a class of its own. What is GAPS you ask?  Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAP Syndrome or GAPS) is a condition establishing a connection between the functions of the digestive system and the  brain. This term was coined by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, MD, MMedSci (neurology), MMedSci (human nutrition) in 2004 after working with hundreds of children and adults with neurological and psychiatric conditions, such as autistic spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD), schizophrenia, dyslexia, dyspraxia, depression, obsessive –compulsive disorder, bi-polar disorder and other neuro-psychological and psychiatric problems.Gut and Physiology Syndrome includes chronic physical conditions which stem from an unhealthy gut, such as all autoimmune conditions (celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes type one, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, autoimmune skin problems, Hashimoto disease and other hormonal problems, etc.), asthma, eczema, various allergies, food allergy and intolerance, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, multiple many endocrine disorders (thyroid, adrenal and other), chronic infections, many neurological diseases and all chronic digestive disorders (such as irritable bowel syndrome, gastritis, colitis, etc). The collective bacteria that reside along the GI tract is referred to as your gut microbiome.  Clinical research continues to reveal how significant the health and function of the gut flora are to every physiological action in the body including metabolism, digestion, nutrient production and absorption, neurotransmitter production and transport, inflammation, detoxification, etc.  Through dietary intervention, targeted supplementation, detoxification, and lifestyle changes, the nutritional protocol is designed to restore digestive function, brain function, and overall health. To learn more about the GAPS Diet click the link below.https://www.gapsdiet.com/Integrative Cancer Solutions was created to instill hope and empowerment. In this episode of the Renegade Nutrition Podcast, we had the privilege of interviewing the AMAZING Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, author of Gut and Psychology Syndrome, Gut and Physiology Syndrome, Put Your Heart in Your Mouth, and Vegetarianism Explained. Dr Natasha graduated with honors as a conventional Medical Doctor in 1984 from Bashkir Medical University in Russia, before moving on to obtain her postgraduate MMedSci Degree in Neurology. But when she became a mother, everything changed. At 3 years old, her son was diagnosed with severe autism. Dr. Natasha was launched into a steep learning curve, as she researched everything she could to help her son. What she discovered was that a low-carbohydrate diet rooted in her ancestral traditions, the same diet that in fact had saved her life when she was failure to thrive at 18 months old, could - with slight alterations - help her son. Almost immediately, Dr. Natasha noticed significant improvements in her son's behavior and development. Today, Dr. Natasha's son is a successful, normally functioning adult with no absolutely signs or symptoms of autism. Dr. Natasha has since become world-renowned as the creator of the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) protocol - a life-saving protocol that has helped hundreds of families manage and even reverse symptoms of autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, depression, dyslexia, dyspraxia, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and more. Join us in this episode as we learn all about the GAPS protocol from Dr. Natasha, and how it could save you or your child's health and give you your life back!
