What if loving your life didn't require you to shrink, perform, or disappear? In this episode, we're talking about the tension that many military spouses feel, but don't always have language for: feeling like you have to choose between trying to do it all (and burning yourself out) or losing parts of yourself in military life. What if there was another way? What if there was a way to embrace your life as a military spouse, without losing yourself in the process? We're exploring what it looks like to hold both. In this episode of the Rise From Within podcast, I'm talking about something I've been experiencing recently — functional burnout. This is not the dramatic, can't-get-out-of-bed version most people picture. It's the kind where you're still doing everything, still showing up, and still ticking the boxes, but something feels off and your body is telling you it's had enough.I'm sharing what it actually looked like for me: the emotional strain, the snappiness, the tiredness, and the moment I realised I could see exactly where I was over committing but couldn't work out what to cut because I genuinely wanted to do all of it.That's the tangle this episode is really about. What happens when the things draining you are things you love? How do you recognise burnout when your life is full of good stuff? And how do you make decisions about pulling back and cutting things out when stepping back feels like compromising and losing part of yourself?I'm also sharing the signs that are easy to miss. There are plenty of indications that don't look like burnout on the surface but are definitely worth paying attention to. And I'm talking about what changed for me when I finally made some decisions on what to let go of, and why a Tuesday night making pancakes with my family felt like the most significant thing I'd done in weeks. If you're still functioning, still showing up, but running on fumes, this one's for you.Support the showGet my emailsFollow on InstagramConnect with me on LinkedInPersonal Coaching

When you wake up in the morning, what gets you out of bed? What actually starts your day? A few days ago, as I was getting going, I found myself thinking about those questions. And if I'm honest, most mornings as moms, our feet hit the floor and our minds immediately fill with to-do lists, responsibilities, and everything we need to manage that day. For so many moms, it's not just tasks—it's the weight of it all. Feelings of overwhelm, loneliness, anxiety, or even quiet discouragement can creep in before the day has really begun. And instead of looking forward to the day, we find ourselves just trying to get through it. But what if it didn't have to feel that way? What if we could wake up with a different perspective—even if the to-do list stayed the same? What if we could reconnect with the things God created us to do and actually enjoy moments in our day, instead of counting down until bedtime? That's what we're going to talk about today—why perspective matters so much, how it shapes our days, and how small shifts can help us move from survival mode to living with more purpose, peace, and joy in this season. So grab your coffee or tea, take a deep breath, and let's get started. Reminder: Quick Announcement We have some fun things coming up this spring. What if joy isn't a mood but a muscle? In this heartfelt, fast-moving conversation, Rachel Awtrey shares how she learned to “nod to hard things without bowing to them" from cayenne-in-the-chili nights and Lego landmines to job loss and grief. She unpacks three kinds of hard days (typical interruptions, long tough seasons, and true tragedies), why we often compare ourselves to an ideal version of ourselves, and how asking for help actually forges your strongest friendships. Along the way, we talk simple practices that change the temperature of your home: taking more meals outside and counting those hours toward the 1000 Hours Outside Challenge, short walks, grounding, ice-rolling for a quick nervous-system reset, and the underrated experience of adult play. If your life is technically “likable” but doesn't feel that way right now, this episode is your permission slip to make some small changes. I am so thrilled to have my friends and hosts of the popular Almost 30 podcast, Krista Williams and Lindsey Simcik, on the show to talk about their new book, Almost 30: A Definitive Guide to a Life You Love for the Next Decade and Beyond. If you're going through any sort of transition, I think you'll love it, because the big theme of our conversation is how to weather the storm of transitions. Lindsey and Krista offer the perfect blend of wisdom and curiosity in sharing their stories about questioning societal expectations, walking their own path, and befriending the body. I hope you enjoy this girlfriend jam as much as I did! Read the show notes for today's episode at terricole.com/723
Even when your life looks full and beautiful on the outside—marriage, kids, a career, a home you care about—it can still feel overwhelming on the inside. You go to bed with your mind racing and wake up already behind. You've checked the boxes, but something still feels off. In this episode, I answer five real questions from high-achieving moms who are navigating what it means to feel stretched thin—even when they love their life. You'll learn: How to reconnect in a marriage that feels more like roommates How to stay calm during toddler tantrums without yelling or shutting down Why you still feel rushed, even with good systems—and how to fix it What to do when you're pulled in every direction (kids, career, aging parents, all of it) How to stop parenting your adult children and start building a real adult-to-adult relationship These are the tools I teach as a certified life coach for moms—and they apply whether you're parenting toddlers or navigating the empty nest years. Because the transformation starts with your mind, not your circumstances. If you want more peace, purpose, and connection in your life—without needing to do more—this episode is for you. “I want to love my life, but I can't until…” It's a mantra recited by millions of us on a daily basis. But is it true? Are we doomed to struggle, stress, and continually defer our fulfillment? In this podcast, join Tami Simon in conversation with celebrated wisdom teacher and bestselling author Michael Neill to discover how we can stop impeding the flow of our inherent joy, creativity, and sense of stability—and start loving life, for real. Tami and Michael discuss: the high-functioning depressive and the dysfunctional depressive; the nature of insecurity; why the mind is more a projector than a camera; when “the mirage is real”; questioning your thoughts vs. thinking about them; the art and practice of dropping thought; taking things seriously without the “heaviness”; the intelligent aliveness of the natural world; universal consciousness vs. personal awareness; shifting from suffering to safety; how to love uncertainty; choosing happiness over misery; being yourself; feelings, fears, and the path to a quieter mind; looking to see “the formless in the form”; and more.
