This week, SepTIMEber continues as we head back to 14th century France to launch real fireballs out of real trebuchets alongside real Montreal LARPers in a rare misstep from a true master of the popcorn flick. It's 2003's Timeline, directed by Richard Donner, based on the book by Michael Crichton, and starring Paul Walker, Frances O'Connor, Gerard Butler, Billy Connolly, David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Neal McDonough, Ethan Embry, Matt Craven, Michael Sheen, Lambert Wilson, Marton Csokas and Rossif Sutherland. Two movies into this theme month and we already be down bad with Stockholm Syndrome, as the dire straits of The Time Machine made this film look like an oasis in the desert comparatively. Alas, it is a deeply flawed flick to be sure, and for the very first time one of our hosts could not make it over the finish line. Plus: a bit of listener mail makes Hayley finally explain her longstanding beef with Ted Lasso. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our conversation, good luck! Despite being a Paramount movie, Timeline is not available on Paramount+ but is rentable on YouTube and the Cineplex app at the time of publication. Other works discussed on this episode include Rebel Ridge, Green Room, Blue Ruin, Kinds of Kindness, Poor Things, The Favourite, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Emperor's New Groove, Child's Play, M3GAN, English Teacher, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III, Almost Live!, Ready Player One, Backspot, I Like Movies, Sabrina Carpenter's album Short & Sweet, The Dana Carvey Show, Too Funny To Fail, 300, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Midnight in Paris, Pushing Daisies, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, Olympus Has Fallen, Greenland, Geostorm, Superman II, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon, Maverick, Radio Flyer, The 13th Warrior, Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow, Paycheck and The Perfect Score. We'll be back next week with a little ADHD-TPB, as SepTIMEber rolls on with a movie J Mo torrented off the internet roughly 15 years ago and never got around to actually watching: 1979's Time After Time, starring Malcolm McDowell and David Warner as H.G. Wells and Jack The Ripper respectively. Sounds like fun, right? Here's hoping! It is also not available on streaming, but once again is rentable on YouTube. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

What if the sequel to a beloved classic isn't as bad as everyone says? On this minisode of Quantum Recast, we're joined by Ash, an unyielding advocate for "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," and Aly Dale, who's can't say its her favorite Jurassic adventure. Dive in as we recount our personal experiences with the Jurassic Park franchise, from the thrill of seeing dinosaurs for the first time on VHS to the joy of owning the movie on DVD. You'll hear Ash's passionate arguments for why "The Lost World" deserves more recognition and Aly's reflections on her initial criticisms. We compare it with the original film, acknowledging the superior craft of "Jurassic Park" while making a case for the standalone enjoyment of its sequel. Our discussion spans from fond childhood memories and the influence of other dinosaur media like "The Land Before Time," to an analysis of the story's divergence from its potential plot points. Also, we reminisce about our fascination with dinosaurs and how these films still hold a special place in our hearts.Embark on a deeper exploration of "The Lost World," from Jeff Goldblum's iconic performance to the unforgettable character of Roland Tembo. We discuss the shift in narrative style, the financial triumphs, and the visceral horror that defines the franchise. Plus, we tackle the challenges of legacy sequels, like balancing authenticity with innovation, and why some recent entries fall short. Wrapping up, we share our thoughts on Spielberg's execution, the CGI advancements, and our favorite dinosaur moments, all while celebrating the art of open-minded discussions and appreciating different perspectives on these timeless films. Thanks for listening; If you feel like supporting us, this is where you do that!Patreon (Just a buck to show your support!)BuyMeACoffee Check out or other content/socials here. Send us a Text Message.Katie and Bridget go back to the dino island (but not the SAME dino island) as they re-watch the lackluster sequel: The Lost World: Jurassic Park! Hey remember how the first Jurassic Park taught us to fear dinosaurs and never interact with them because man vs. nature blah blah? Well guess what - we're gonna go interact with them cause we forgot about all the death and destruction and instead are like YAY DINOS! Come along with Ian Malcolm, the only returning main character from the first movie! Through some spared-no-expense nonsense ala John Hammond, Ian ends up back with the dinos to go rescue his girlfriend who's been camping there alone for 4 days... Yes that's right, camping alone with DINOS... For four days... She might not have even had a tent, we're not really sure! But it's okay because we have some new characters like Nick Van Owen, the alleged back up plan (but we have doubts), Eddie Carr, the tech guy who gets viscously murdered, Kelly, a step-daughter who should have just stayed in the High-Hide, and InGen people, who just could not care less that they are seeing dinosaurs in real life. With that set up how could you go wrong!? Released in 1997, it was once again directed by Steven Spielberg, and features Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Pete Postlethwaite, Vince Vaughn, Arliss Howard, Richard Attenborough, Vanessa Chester, and Richard Schiff.

Two risky films take centre stage in this episode of Film Stories, starting with Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan. A 170-minute film released in the midst of a summer jammed with over 100 films to choose from in cinema. Who would have thought it'd prevail at the box office? Spielberg for one wasn't too worried: but also, he came to it directly after making The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Amistad. No wonder he had to rely heavily on his instincts. Fran Kranz meanwhile, better known for his acting, got nowhere with a script he'd written for a $100m alien invasion movie. He turned his attention to something a lot smaller, that he could raise the funding for. He came up with Mass, on a shoestring budget. Completing the film was just part of the challenge... 1993 was a massive year of success for director Steven Spielberg. He not only won the long out of his reach Oscar for Schindler's List, but he also once again proved he was the box office king with Jurassic Park. With a year like that, and an already twenty plus year career, Spielberg needed a break. But while on his sabbatical, he asked original Jurassic author Michael Crichton to write a sequel to the most successful film of the early 90s. How much of the Lost World book was actually used in 1997's adaptation The Lost World Jurassic Park, amongst many other topics, are discussed in this review of the oft derided sequel that even though Joe Johnston had said he was up for the director chores, Spielberg decided he'd do it himself. Take a listen, and be sure to tune in next week as one of the three men on this retrospective podcast holds Jurassic Park III as his favorite of the series.
