Also can dreams open our minds to other consciousnesses? Our guest today is professor emeritus Curt Hoffman, PhD. Curt is an archeologist and an anthropologist. He starts by describing that several big dreams shared with colleagues inspired his interest in dreaming. He has been a member of IASD (International Association for the Study of Dreams, asdream.org) since 1997. We play several pieces of Curt's music whose creation was guided by explicit instructions from his dreams. He produced 768 pieces of music in 19 months and has assigned one to each card in the Tarot deck. His website sharing these pieces will be up soon. Our show music creator Rick Kleffel takes the mic to ask if Curt knows of the work of Bill Nelson who has similar dream-inspired pieces plus Rick shares his own recent dream-inspired music story. We then speak about Curt's book Stone Prayers about identifying almost 6000 sacred sites on the Eastern Seaboard in which he provides evidence that these sites were were constructed as sacred places by the indigenous peoples of the region. Curt touches into his experiences around consciousness sharing during dreaming. He shares his dream from that morning about a liger (lion and tiger cross-breed). We take two callers: Sonia from Massachusetts asks about whether the IASD conference will come to Bridgewater soon. And Tony Russomano relays a question from Cindy from Santa Rosa about an example of some of the dreams that inspired his music. BIO: Curtiss Hoffman, Ph.D., is professor emeritus of Anthropology at Bridgewater State University, where he taught courses in archaeology, mythology and culture and consciousness. Curt has been an active member of the IASD since 1997, currently serving on the IASD Program Committee and the Hartmann Student Research Awards Committee. You can find Curt's music here: MusicalDreamTarot.com Intro music is Water over Stones and outro music is Everything both by Mood Science. Today's ambient music is created by Rick Kleffel. We focus on how to support each other respectfully as we explore our dreams without unduly influencing or belittling each other. Geoff starts out by sharing some incidents that sparked his interest in ethics. He then shares some of the principles of the Clearness Committee which was written in the 1660s as a guideline for the Quaker community to support spiritual seekers in their midst. One principle is that the supporters are encouraged to ask probing questions rather then directive questions.  Geoff and I are both members of the Ethics Committee at the IASD (International Association for the Study of Dreams), and we speak about the IASD Ethic Statement written in the late 1990s. You can read the ethics statement at www.ASdreams.org/ethics-and-confidentiality/ Rev. Nelson then speaks about using dreams as part of other spiritual practices including labyrinth walking and personal prayer. He shares that dreamwork has been the most powerful spiritual practice that he has experienced and speaks about some of his personal practices around dreams and spirituality. We speak with two callers. First Chris from Felton shares some dreams she has been having about being a recent empty nester. We also take a call from Ahleen from Santa Cruz who laments that most of her dreams are about everyday problems, and she wishes she could have more comforting or uplifting dreams. BIO. Rev. Geoff Nelson, D. Min., is a retired Presbyterian pastor, from Whittier, California. He is also a trained spiritual director, labyrinth facilitator and received his D. Min. degree for running dream groups in churches which his book, “Dreaming in Church” describes. Rev. Nelson is part of the IASD (International Association for the Study of Dreams) serving on the ethics committee and the conference planning committee. He has been involved in hosting several regional southern California dream conferences with IASD. Geoff is excited about the upcoming ISD conference in Tucson next summer, which will be the first live conference in three years. Geoff can be reached at ggnelson(at)ix.netcom.com. We play clips from two different versions of the guest-selected song John O'Dreams. Ambient music created by Rick Kleffel new every week. A Quest for Well-Being

Think about your most recent significant dream. You would probably agree that, as you think about it, you are outside of it. It is as if you are looking at something, appreciating it, remembering it, considering what it might mean. Now try something different—move inside it. Go right back into the dream, re-enter the scene. Feel the difference? Here's the question: is dreamwork more effective when done from the outside, or the inside? The evolution in my own dreamworking style and method over the past few years has resulted in working more and more from the inside. Having now worked in this way with a few thousand dreams I can say a few things with certainty: Dreamwork done from the inside is faster and simpler, because it really has only one step: you re-enter your dream and try to get an embodied sense of what it wants (what is trying to happen? What do you want to do? What is it asking you for? Where is the energy trying to go?) It is easier to facilitate others when working from the inside, because there is no burden on the facilitator to have any sense of what the dream might mean. Two major fears that plague dreamworkers are greatly reduced–the fear of getting lost, and the fear of being wrong. The facilitator's job is relatively simple–to invite the dreamer to re-enter the dream, then help them get a sense of what wants to happen. The goal is the same– to arrive at a resonant insight about how the dream connects to your life. When working from the inside I have found these insights tend to arise more spontaneously and organically. They are felt more in the body, less worked out through thinking and associating. Inside dreamwork seems to work quite beautifully about 80% of the time in my experience. Sometimes it seems to get stalled because the dreamer cannot get an embodied feeling of what they want to do. At these times I have found it very effective to use one of the back-up techniques, most commonly the be-the-part technique (asking the dreamer to shift their identification from their own self to another dream figure). Working from the inside is more dynamic (change-oriented). You are already changing yourself as soon as you re-enter your dream and allow something new to happen. In traditional dream interpretation understanding comes first and change may follow (or not). In inside dreamwork change comes first and understanding follows. I find this much more rewarding. Working from the inside is more fun, and less tiring. Your brain doesn't need to work nearly as hard. The energy is usually higher because you are working with something that is alive and changing. It's less like analysis and more like theater.  — writer Dr. Christopher Sowton   Valeria interviews Dr. Christopher. Gayle Delaney--Journey w/ me into outer space w/ this out of this world Dream Expert In this episode, Gayle Delaney and I explore her special way of facilitating dream interpretation.  Is it just me or is our recent political climate inspiring boldness in those of us who (up until now) have been so PC? It sure seems that way to me! For example, Gayle was proud to share her Pink Pussy (cat hat) with us that she proudly wore at the Women’s March this past January (2017), which, in turn, inspired me to share my very indecent Scarlett Letter dream. Click here to see the video: https://youtu.be/b0ftaN5JkEM Gayle Delaney, in addition to being the best dressed dream expert on this planet and a former professional ice skater, is one of the featured keynote presenters at this year’s IASD (International Association for the Study of Dreams) conference (www.ASDreams.org) at the Wyndham hotel in Anaheim, CA. She’ll be enthralling us with her wit and insight with her topic being: Dreams as CT Scans of our Love Life In our interview, we discussed the following topics (to name a few): Gayle’s #DreamInquiry technique, whereby she says, “I’m an alien from another planet, what’s a zombie?” The most misunderstood thing about dreams The most valuable thing about dream work How, whether we realize or not, whether we want it or not, our dreams evaluate our love relationships within hours or days of our meeting a new potential mate and give us invaluable perspective and insights. How our dreams can help us choose better mates And how can our dreams help us decide whether or not to end a troubled relationship (aka don’t make yourself bloody trying to get blood from a stone!) If you want to avoid years of unhappiness and despair, and have more joy, fulfillment on all levels in your personal relationships, check out this interview! Her first book, Living Your Dreams, triggered modern interest and research in Dream Incubation or choosing to sleep on a particular problem before going to sleep. And her most recent book, All About Dreams, summarizes her work including that on sexual dreams and romantic relationships.
