What happens at the intersection of dreams and consciousness? In this conversation, Laura is joined again by Maria to explore the profound notion of one very powerful question: WHO IS THE DREAMER. Their guest to help dismantle this philosophical dream knot is Dr. Newton Kondaveti, of Quantum Life University near Hyderabad in India. You were made to be in a relationship with the living God and His first commandment is that you should worship Him alone. God commands us to love Him because He loves us first. The First Commandment of the Ten Commandments is “I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image.” Jesus in the Gospels said very clearly: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” It may seem like the First Commandment may be difficult to break. After all, we don't worship statues! But if we really stop and reflect, how many of us are too attached to material things of this world? We might be too reliant on money or status, and we may value other things as more important than God. The Lord truly wants us to make him number one.CCC 2093 says: We are called by the first commandment to have charity; we must love God above everything and all creatures. One can sin against charity through indifference (refusing to reflect on God's divine love), ingratitude (failing to acknowledge God's goodness), lukewarmness (negligence in responding to divine love), acedia (spiritual sloth), and hated of God which comes from pride. Not taking our faith as seriously as we ought is a sin against the first commandment. Another way we could break this commandment is outlined in the CCC 2110-2117. The First Commandment forbids superstition and irreligion. Superstition is a departure of the worship we give to the true God. We are commanded to reject idolatry which not only refers to pagan worship but also includes whenever one honors or reveres something that is not God in the place of God: whether this be power, pleasure, race, ancestors, government, money, or many other things. All forms of divination must be rejected including recourse to satan or demons, conjuring up the dead, consulting horoscopes or astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens, clairvoyance phenomenon, turning to mediums, and practicing occult magic. These contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear we owe to God alone. CCC 2129-2132 says: While the the First Commandment states "you shall not make for yourself a graven image", the veneration of sacred images is not contrary to this law because the worship is not directed at the images themselves which are considered mere things but leads us to worship the God Incarnate. God our Father in heaven loves you so much, and He asks that you return that love back to Him, not only for His sake but for yours... for your salvation. When we make God our first priority, everything else falls into order and we begin to see His gifts in their proper place. What is it that you are clinging onto that you need to give over to God today? In this conversation, Laura meets ‘smellologist' Keren Bester to explore the intricate relationship between smell and dreams. They delve into Keren's PhD research on olfactory perception and its philosophical implications and how this can relate to dreams. They discuss how smell influences memory and personhood, the impact of COVID when many people, who lost their sense of smell (anosmia), realised the importance of this mainly unconscious sense in their lives.  They also look at the potential for using smell as a tool in lucid dreaming and whether certain smells can provoke good or bad dreams.   And are you one of the few people who can actually smell something in a dream? Laura announces the DRI's first retreat in the home of dream incubation – Epidavros in Greece.  Twelve lucky people will join her and Sarah Janes from Dream Mysteries in May (see how to join the retreat link below*) for a full immersion in the ancient temple sleep practices for healing. Laura and Melinda run through the power of these ancient rituals before Laura interviews Sarah Janes about her fascinating work in this area.   Sarah Janes talks about how she became fascinated by the power of dreams during childhood and what led her from jettisoning her career as a US show promoter to become a specialist in ancient dream cults through the development of her work at Dream Mysteries.   Laura and Sarah discuss the beauty of Epidavros and how its magic is spell binding, especially wrapped around the myths and practices of the Greek healing God Asklepios.  Sarah Jane reveals how retreatants are often called by the God himself in dreams to come out to the sanctuary and how they find her online after such a dream. Learn about the 'Eucharist' in this CKoT.You might wonder how the Eucharist tastes like bread and wine but it is truly Jesus present. Jesus said “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and abides in me and I in him.” (Jn 6:51)CCC 1324 states the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The Eucharist is oriented towards all other sacraments. This means that the Eucharist must be the center of our faith because it is Jesus Himself. The word Eucharist comes from the Greek word “Eucharistesas” which means 'given thanks'. Jesus instituted the Eucharist when He took bread and had given thanks He broke it and gave it them saying “this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”And likewise the cup after supper saying “this cup which is poured out for you is the New Covenant in my blood.”We celebrate the Eucharist in the Mass in which ordained priests concentrate the bread and wine. The elements remain the same but they are substantially changed into Christ body and blood, soul and divinity. This is called transubstantiation. Jesus is fully present under the appearance of bread and wine. Receiving the Eucharist is called Holy Communion because you are in communion with Christ and with the Church. Because Jesus is truly present in this Sacrament, the Church honors Him with the practice of adoration where the Eucharist is exposed in a monstrance and you can go and pray before Him. If you struggle to believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, take these concerns to Him as you sit in front of Him in the Eucharist. Ask him to deepen your belief and trust in Him. He has come to give you life, and through the Eucharist you will find this abundant life. The disciples even said “this teaching is hard who could accept it?” (Jn 6:60). These were instituted by Jesus Himself to help us receive His Grace more fully and tangibly.  CCC 1131 states the sacraments are efficacious signs of grace instituted by Christ and entrusted to the church by which divine life is dispensed to us. There are seven sacraments in the church: Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. The Catechism states that the purpose of the sacraments is to sanctify, build up the body of Christ, and give worship to God.Sacraments help us to receive continual graces. Imagine being in the desert, desperate for water. If we deprive ourselves of the graces Christ wants to give us in the Eucharist and Reconciliation, we're in a sense choosing to live in the desert away from the life giving water. When we're struggling with a particular sin or vice, continually going back to the Sacraments is what will heal us and help us to get to heaven. Never get tired of receiving what Jesus wants to give you.
