"How to interpret your last sex dream. Interpreting dreams can be a bit confusing, especially when the dreams feel nonsensical or random. But according to Loewenberg, specifics matter—even the random things. Usually, the specifics of dreams relate to some aspect of your real life and have messages or lessons woven into their symbolism. In the case of sex dreams, she explains, "The main thing to keep in mind when trying to figure out your sex dream is they're rarely about a physical union you want but more about a psychological union." She adds, "If you do actually want to sleep with that person in real life, you already know, and you don't need a dream to tell you that." So, have no fear if you're happily coupled up and still dreaming about sleeping with strangers or your boss. According to Loewenberg, sex in a dream most often represents a desire to connect to some internal aspect of that person, like a trait or behavior, rather than their physical body." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

"Historians have had to learn to explore their own subjectivity in dealing with the past. They can only see what they are prepared to see and they have frequently blocked out, scotomized, what they really don’t want to see. This is part of the current struggle in the history profession" Description: Dr. Harvey Schwartz welcomes Dr. Peter Loewenberg, who is a retired professor of History and Political Psychology at UCLA where he received numerous awards including from the Guggenheim, Rockefeller and Fulbright Foundations. He is a training and supervising analyst and former Dean of the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles. He chaired the committee that passed the California Research Psychoanalysis Law in 1977, enabling academics to be trained in and practice psychoanalysis. He Chaired the IPA China Committee, and he served on the IPA Board representing North America. He is the author of many publications, including Decoding the Past: The Psychohistorical Approach and Fantasy and Reality in History. He is Editor of 100 Years of the IPA. In today’s episode, Dr. Loewenberg shares his passion for the academic and psychoanalytic worlds and his ability to relate these two fields to each other. As a historian, Dr. Loewenberg informs psychoanalysis and underlines how vital it is to appreciate and listen for the past, and he brings from psychoanalysis to history the importance of listening to oneself in observing the present and the past. Key takeaways: [5:44] Dr. Loewenberg shares how psychoanalysis and history can understand the methods of each other to the advantage of both, and how this informed his discovery and immersion in Psychohistory. [7:03] Dr. Loewenberg talks about how historians took the contributions of psychoanalysis to history. [9:45] Trauma experienced by a psychoanalyst influences his practice, giving a three dimensional perspective to his understanding of his patient’s trauma. [11:12] Dr. Loewenberg talks about psychohistory and how the past impacts the present in meaningful ways. [13:06] How the Deutsche Mark became one of the strongest currencies in Europe. [16:24] Dr. Loewenberg shares his beginnings as a psychoanalyst. [21:59] Dr. Loewenberg talks about how the first cases were like for him. [27:38] The appreciation of the exchanges between analyst and analysand. [29:10] Historians’ appreciation for the past is often very subjective. [31:10] Dr. Loewenberg shares how life is now for him and his family during the pandemic. In the 12th episode of the NüVoices podcast, Alice Xin Liu and Sophie Lu interview Shuilam Wong, who goes by Shui, a comic artist who partnered with Jinna Kaneko to create the Hole in the Wall Collective with Jinna Kaneko. The two high school friends met back up in the city and decided to create their own indie zines (self-published magazines). We talked to Shui about being born in Tokyo and raised in Beijing and London (where she went to Camberwell College of Arts, and where she feels like she belongs to no particular place). We also discussed her artwork, which utilizes broad brushstrokes and a free-form sketch style to depict scenes inspired by a variety of characters in everyday life. Shui notes that her style is partially inspired by Old Master Q (老夫子), a classic Chinese comic. For recommendations, Alice recommends Sexy Beijing (www.sexybeijing.tv), and especially its star and producer, Anna Sophie Loewenberg, a precursor to all the badass females in her life. Sexy Beijing was a project that Loewenberg created with Jeremy Goldkorn and Luke Mines. Sophie recommends Woman World, a graphic novel published by Drawn & Quarterly and based on an Instagram comic about a world without men. Our guest, Shui, recommends yoga and a très noir French Pinocchio comic book by Winshluss.

On this episode, Katie is joined by Deborah Loewenberg Ball, the William H. Payne Collegiate Professor of education at the University of Michigan, an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, and the director of TeachingWorks. She taught elementary school for more than 15 years, and continues to teach mathematics to elementary students every summer. Ball studies the practice of teaching, seeking to identify how its power can be leveraged to disrupt racism, marginalization, and inequity. Much of her research focuses on elementary mathematics as a critical context for understanding teaching practice, examining the endemic challenges of working across difference, and the relational, communicative, and content-understanding entailments of that work. Her current work centers on ways to improve the quality of beginning teaching, particularly for children of color and low-income children. Ball has authored or co-authored more than 150 publications and has lectured and made numerous major presentations around the world. She serves on the National Science Board and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Board of Trustees and is president of the American Educational Research Association. Ball has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Education, and is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society and the American Educational Research Association. Segment 1: Math Education [00:00-18:15] In this first segment, Deborah shares about what she has learned about math education research after decades in the field. Segment 2: Teacher Training and Professional Development [18:16-33:54] In segment two, Deborah shares about her organization TeachingWorks.
