"How are you?""I'm good" might be one of the biggest lies we tell, at least sometimes. Especially in the education space but in plenty of other areas, both professional and personal, we put the needs of others before our own. And while there is beauty and value in that, what we can have a hard time doing is admitting when we get overwhelmed or need help. Even harder? Accepting help when it is offered. Well, author and keynote speaker Jodi Womack has something to say about that, and it's something we all need to hear. You can find Jodi and her husband, Jason, at womackcompany.comAs always, reach me at www.dissectedpodcastmkj.com

Jodi Womack: Creating Momentum Around What's Important to You

The Truth Prescription

Good people,This week’s episode of The Truth Prescription brings a great conversation with a lot of great energy. I speak with Jodi Womack, leadership coach/trainer, author, and co-founder of the Getting Momentum Leadership Academy. She, along with her husband, Jason created the program in 2012. Jodi, of course, shares her personal and professional truths; shining a light on the importance of identifying the things that are important in life and creating priority around them. She shares with us how we can leverage more time in our days to set ourselves up for success, moving out of a space of constant ‘catch up.’ She also speaks to her experience as an introvert and one who’s created a career largely comprised with a lot of time spent sharing stories in front of large audiences. Something that really resonated to me throughout our conversation is the importance of understanding that if you leverage your own experience you will be undefeated and open to create an abundance of momentum.Host: Dr. Seku GathersGuest: Jodi WomackResources:Get Momentum Leadership AcademyGet Momentum - Book6:28: Personal Truth: A Few years ago, Jodi went home to visit her parents. She hugged them and realized that her mom seemed really skinny, almost frail. She suggested that they go to the doctor, which led to 8 months of visits with specialists. Her mom was diagnosed with early onset dementia and was so thin because she was forgetting to eat. Jodi was devastated and felt terrible. She says she knew that she had to step her game up as a daughter and had to figure out what that meant in terms of taking care of her parents. In addition, when her husband accepted a new role, they relocated from California to Alabama and were even further from her parents. The truth was, she really had to decide what was important in her life and that’s helped her prioritize and realize that the things she thought were really important, that she thought she wanted pale in comparison to how she wants to show up for the people that she loves the most. 12:09 Professional: “Introverts can speak to groups.” That’s been her biggest challenge because she didn’t know she had it in her. Jodi used to work for another speaker; she managed operations and would always decline when he asked her if she wanted to introduce him. When she started hosting women’s networking events, she would hear all kinds of stories about the hardships and struggles they were having. When they returned to the following event, there would be stories about their progress and overcoming. These women were managing real life and Jodi realized that you can’t learn adulting in a book. She likes to share real stories, keep it real and let people know that there’s support available to make it through. She’s shifted the narrative and now speaks to friends, not audiences where she’s just sharing stories, not teaching; something she’d do in coffee shops with friends all of the time. 24:33: 30/30 RuleJodi calls it strategic planning for life and says it would be great to have learned this in high school. The 30/30 Rule is working on something for 30 minutes that isn’t due for 30 days or more. This came about because there were things on Jodi’s calendar that kept surprising her. She says that shouldn’t have been the case because the things on the calendar are the things that she’s already agreed to do. She says most people look at today and tomorrow, some look at the full week and, as a result, we never get the vision of “up and out -- getting ahead.” Many of us are always playing catch up and Jodi says there are 3 time zones: “Catch Up, Keep Up, and Getting Ahead.” The 30/30 Rule was created to help us get ahead.30:09 Finding MentorsJodi says when trying to find mentors, you want to build your team. There are mentors, who you don’t pay for, who care for you and are vested in your growth. Coaches, teachers, and therapists, who you pay for, are also apart of that team of people who are helping you to think new thoughts. She says if we keep thinking the same thoughts, asking the same questions, we’ll only continue to see more of the same. Building a team helps us build that momentum. We can also leverage podcasts, books, videos to learn more about the paths we want to be taking. 40:09 Yes or BS:Public speaking is easier than writing a book?Change your diet and change your life?Women make better leaders?Getting improper rest is similar to being intoxicated? Love, at first sight, is a myth?Creating momentum is much easier for men? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

You Know What I Think? with Jody Hanks

You know what I think about Momentum? Mark Twain once said “If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.” The frog in this quote represents the one thing you have on your to-do list that you have absolutely no motivation to do. The biggest frog would be the most important of two undesirable tasks. If you don't eat them right away, you're likely to put-off doing them the rest of the day, and guaranteed they'll be a distraction until you get it done and will impede your momentum. In this podcast I provide an overview and some observations of a great book by Jason and Jodi Womack, called Get Momentum: How to Start When You're Stuck

I have a lot of firsts for you in this week's episode. Jason and Jodi Womack are my first married guests, my first live interview with two guests and my first co-author guests. We also have a lot of fun talking, as usual, and the result is a huge episode packed full of ways to make an impact and get momentum. The Womacks want entrepreneurs to Get Momentum, over and over again. Get Momentum is an executive coaching and development program that is designed for busy people who want to work smarter, think bigger, lead better and achieve more. Since launching their business in 2012, they have expanded to include the Get Momentum Leadership Academy and https://getmomentum.com/gmbook/ (Get Momentum: How to Start When You're Stuck). The Womacks are both big proponents of mentorship. “The purpose of a mentor is to have someone act as the visionary,” Jason said. “You're looking at you right then, a mentor can look at you and see you months from now.” Jodi added that, “I love to think of mentors as someone I have a real relationship with … a real mentor cares about you the person, and the big vision of you that they can see.” Jason has a tactic he uses for clarifying, expanding or narrowing his vision. He looks at a subject as 100, 25 or 1. If you take 100 pennies, 4 quarters or 1 dollar, they all add up to the same amount. “There are some times you need to look at all 100 pieces of the problem, some times I just need to buck it into four quarters, and sometimes I just need to know what the problem is.” Mentors help you look at the problem from a different perspective. Jodi's impact moment came while she was Director of Public Events at a training firm. One day, all of the public events were canceled. “I realized I wasn't the director of anything, as long as I was an employee,” Jodi said. Jason felt he was always running out of goals to reach for. So, they left the firm and started their own coaching and development business. Eventually, customers were reaching out because they wanted more. They needed a continual refreshing of the content, so the https://getmomentum.com/home.php (Get Momentum Leadership Academy) was born. “If you can get your clients to ask you for your next product before it is built, you are onto something,” Jason said. Their book, https://getmomentum.com/gmbook/ (Get Momentum: How to Start When You're Stuck), is another project that was started after customers expressed interest in a book based on the course. The book is about how you reverse engineer that feeling you wish you had more: momentum. Jason described momentum as “the feeling that you recognize after you've had it.” Being stuck sucks. “There's no pretty way to dress that up. It is hard, it is lonely, it is depressing,” Jodi said. The other side of the coin is that, if you're stuck, you're trying to do something you've never done before. When are you at your best? Every question Jason asks comes down to this central idea. If people consider when they are at their best, they give themselves what he describes as “the gift of their own attention.” What do you want to be known for? The Womacks suggest you pick a role and pick a period of time. The answer is constantly changing. It's a powerful perspective, because it makes the question actionable. The book does a wonderful job at providing actionable activities that reinforce the motivational message. “Get Momentum” is broken into the Five Stages of Momentum: Motivation – What did I do that motivated me? “The idea of catching someone doing something right is so bizarre, unusual and unique. If you try that for a couple days, you might just revolutionize what's going on in your office. Since school and the red pen, we've been taught to find what's wrong,” said Jodi. “People are starved for wins.” Mentors – Jason has two kinds of mentors: Mentors he knows and mentors he doesn't know. Learn from anybody you can. Jason picks one person from history every month to learn from....

Todays guest is the first partner of a previous guest to ever be on the show.If you listened to episode 53, then you would have heard her husband speak, with passion, eloquence and more than a splash of humour on what he is doing to help us all make our best even better. But our guest is not just a wife and business partner,as she is a mover and shaker, zigger and zagger in her own right.A renowned speaker, she loves nothing more than inspiring large groups of women to take on the world together.Back in 2009, when the world was struggling under an economic downturn that left many fearing for their futures, our guest had an idea and a very powerful one too.She invited women business owners from across the globe to join forces once a month to combine resources, share ideas and become empowered to stimulate their own economy.A real powerful force of willing and participating action takers. The result has been tremendous; jobs have been created, services exchanged and hope renewed, which led to the creation of No More Nylons the company that hosts these Women's Business Socials. But that is really the tip of the iceberg, as both of her and her husband thrive on creating, inspiring and delivering the possibility of a positive future to all of us.But what keeps her inspired? What makes her believe that she can achieve what she is aiming to do in the world? And what  makes her agree to come onto the show today, when she has so much on her plate?Well lets find out as we start Joining Up the Dots with the one and only Jodi Womack.
