A Phil Svitek Podcast - A Series From Your 360 Creative Coach
What if you could start building hype for your project before it's even finished? Here, I talk about how creators across all disciplines—writers, filmmakers, musicians, visual artists—can use public events like Comic-Cons, book festivals, art fairs, and music expos to generate excitement and gather early fans before the final product is out. These events are more than just launchpads—they're opportunities to engage your audience, test ideas, and build community around your work-in-progress.Here are a few examples:-Writers hosting live readings of early chapters at literary events-Filmmakers showing concept art or proof-of-concept trailers at conventions-Musicians performing demos or unreleased tracks during pop-up sets-Visual artists displaying sketchbooks or inviting feedback on unfinished seriesWhether your project is a film, a novel, an album, or a gallery show—there's value in bringing people into the process early. It's not about perfection—it's about connection.

Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
The custom is to light the Menorah in the Bet Knesset with Berachot. On Friday, it is lit, before Minha, once a Minyan is present. On Mosa'eh Shabbat it is lit during Arbit before the Kaddish Titkabal, before people rush home. This custom was not recorded in the Gemara, but it was accepted by the Shulhan Aruch. The question is whether a Menorah should be lit also at public gatherings, such as parties, restaurants and conferences, outside of a Bet Knesset. Hacham Bension was very strict on this matter. He reasoned that even lighting in a Bet Knesset with a Beracha is a Hidush, and therefore it should not be expanded upon to other contexts. On the other hand, Hacham Ovadia was more lenient. He ruled that the Bet Knesset is only an example of a public gathering, but the custom could be applied to other venues as well. This is especially applicable if some people at the event will not be lighting on their own at home. It can be assumed that at a wedding with hundreds of people, some people will not be lighting at home. In addition, he rules (Yalkut Yosef English Edition) that a Menorah may be lit at a Minyan not taking place in a Bet Knesset, such as a Minha/Arbit Minyan in an office. In this disagreement between Hacham Bension and Hacham Ovadia, one may rely on Hacham Ovadia. SUMMARY One may light a Menorah with Berachot at public gatherings, if there are people there who may not light on their own. Similarly, a Menorah may be lit at a Minyan in an office.

In a recent episode of the 603Podcast, Lindsay Rustad, Scientist and Forest Service Team Lead at Hubbard Brook, sat down with Dan Egan to discuss a crucial topic: effectively sharing scientific research on environmental conservation. Lindsay's insights covered everything from the role of art and poetry in connecting people to environmental issues to the profound impact of acid rain and Hubbard Brook's long-term ecosystem monitoring.A Legacy of Discovery: Acid Rain and BeyondHubbard Brook has been a cornerstone of environmental research since its designation in 1955. It's here that the groundbreaking discovery of acid rain was made—a discovery that played a pivotal role in shaping the Clean Air Act of 1992. This legislation significantly improved air quality, showcasing the power of scientific research to drive policy change. As Lindsay puts it, "We can't make people care with science alone. We need people to translate the science." She emphasizes that when individuals understand what's happening in their own backyards, they're more likely to make small changes that lead to big impacts.Bridging Science and Emotion: The Role of Art and CommunityLindsay passionately discusses the need for translating scientific findings into relatable terms. She highlights the work of Rachel Carson, whose book Silent Spring used poetic language to raise awareness about environmental issues, building a deep emotional connection with readers. Inspired by this, Lindsay launched the “Postcard for a Forest” project, encouraging kids to write postcards to the forest, expressing their appreciation and drawing their favorite trees. Such initiatives help foster a sense of connection and community, proving that art can be a powerful tool in environmental advocacy.Engage with Hubbard Brook: Events, Tours, and Citizen ScienceIf you're inspired by Lindsay's conversation and want to get involved, the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest offers numerous ways to engage:Public Events and Open HousesWebinars and Virtual ToursGuided ToursCitizen Science Projects: Participate in data collection and monitoring activities, contributing to significant research efforts.Educational Programs and Field Trips: Ideal for students and educators looking to deepen their understanding of forest ecology. To start your journey with Hubbard Brook, visit the Hubbard Brook website and follow their social media channels for the latest updates on events, programs, and opportunities. This is Part Two of a Three part series on public and private events with our guest Dr Joe Layng. Joe is a behavior analyst. He's been our guest before. We've talked about contingency adduction, non linear analysis, the effect of schedules on social behavior, and degrees of freedom among many other topics. Most recently we did a series with Joe on Schedules of Reinforcement. Last week Joe talked about Helen Keller. Most of us know who she was through the movie “The Miracle Worker”. Helen Keller was born in 1880. When she was just 19 months old, an illness left her blind and deaf. Until she was seven years old she lived in a world without language. If you've watched “The Miracle Worker” you know the scene where her teacher Anne Sullivan spelled out water on Helen's hand while holding her hand under a hand pump. The connection was made. These odd hand movements meant water. She could communicate! In the clicker training world we often refer to this event as a Helen Keller moment. That's the excitement you see in some animals when they suddenly understand what the click means. They can communicate! We call the sudden surge in activity, excitement. And we refer to these emotions as private events and we make a distinction between emotions and emotional behavior. One is a private event which we can't see and the other is an observable public event. Just when you think you've got this sorted, Joe throws a monkey wrench into our understanding by arguing that there is no difference between public and private events. In this episode he'll give us another intriguing way of thinking about what we think is our reality.
This is Part 1 of a three part conversation about public and private events with Dr Joe Layng. We've just finished up a four part series on Feldenkrais work. I think it is perfect that we're following this series with Joe's discussion of public and private events. In episode 259 Anita shared an ATM lesson with all of us. What you experienced from this lesson is what you experienced, but I have no way of knowing if that is anything even remotely related to what I experienced. This is relevant and important especially when it comes to riding lessons where we are trying to translate into words a kinesthetic experience. Joe's discussion of public and private events begins there and then carries us into a discussion of what is consciousness. He then asks: are animals aware? Dr Layng has been our guest before. We've talked about contingency adduction, non linear analysis, the effect of schedules on social behavior, and degrees of freedom among many other topics. Most recently we did a series with Joe on Schedules of Reinforcement. Those are episodes 239 through 242. I suggest that you listen to episode 239 as well as this current series. That episode was a teaser for the conversation we are having on public and private events. In this episode Joe talks about Helen Keller. Most of us know who she was through the movie “The Miracle Worker”. Helen Keller was born in 1880. When she was just 19 months old, an illness left her blind and deaf. Until she was seven years old she lived in a world without language. Just when you think you've got this sorted, Joe throws a monkey wrench into our understanding by arguing that there is no difference between public and private events. In this episode he he begins a conversation that offers us an intriguing way of thinking about what we think is our reality.
These are days of threatened attacks by terrorist groups and the craziness of random shootings and physical assaults. We've seen shootings in big box stores and other public places, as well as on the streets. We all remember the Boston Marathon bombing. It is also a time of parades, tree lightings, community gatherings, and a whole lot of shoppers filling malls and stores. Being at these events and in public places is ample reason to be taking personal safety precautions, and that is what we discuss on this episode, along with tips on identifying someone carrying a firearm. If you would like to have the expanded notes on today's episode, along with the links mentioned in the episode, you'll find them at practicalprepping.info/436Please share this podcast with your friends, family, and on social media accounts. Joy Reid leads this episode of The ReidOut examining the much-anticipated, redacted copy of the search warrant affidavit of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home. Of the 38-page affidavit, nearly half of it is redacted. Those redactions by the Department of Justice and approved by U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhardt are designed to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation by not disclosing highly sensitive information about witnesses and other grand jury material. In the 15 boxes of documents returned to the National Archives in January, the FBI found 184 unique documents bearing classification markings, including 67 documents marked as "confidential," 92 marked as "secret," and 25 marked "top secret." As we are learning more about why FBI agents searched the former president's compound, we demonstrate why storing government documents at a public events venue is a dangerous idea. Joy Reid is joined by Rep. Eric Swalwell plus her expert guests to discuss this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.
