Marni and Chris look at the relationships, from beginning to end, that define reality series, Love is Blind, in an effort to glean the take-aways that can be applied within our own dating lives. As the series comes close to its end, the duo discusses episodes 43 to 50 where we see more drama unraveling with relationships coming to an end, and new ones blossoming, while others persist still. Navigating through the early stages of a relationship isn't easy. What should you do when he all of a sudden loses interest? Do you confront him? Do you speak to your friends when you've already gotten the answer you need? A big part of dating is taking cues and being able to pick up on the actions of your partner, and what they mean for you. Understanding how to react to this person, your own insecurities, and theirs is part and parcel of the dating world. Takeaways from this episode: - Don't wait around for him to decide - How to be rejection-proof? - Don't Give Him All the Power - The roots create the fruit - Relationships are season - Don't overcompensate Act Like it, Don't Say it [01:35] Using the example of Cassie and Claudia, Marni explains that telling a man you're not an option is different than acting it. Claudia waited around for Cassie to make his decision then confronted him, which pushed him even further away and right into Rosie's arms. She made the decision easy for him. Now, that's not to say that we shouldn't confront someone who's hurt us but there's a way to do it. And that's not to say that the outcome would've been different for Cassie and Claudia, but she would've saved herself a lot of pain had she done it differently. If someone has shown you, through their actions, that they're not interested or they're interested in someone else, don't wait around for them to make it clearer. What happened with Claudia is that she started to overcompensate and lean in too much. If you're going to get the same result anyway, hold your head up high, and actually act like you're not a second option. Don't just say it, act it. We've all been in similar situations where we've dated or been with someone who can't make up their mind. And the way forward isn't necessarily to avoid talking to them about it, but it's about confronting them with the notion that you're not going to stick around, and that you don't need them. What we mean by leaning in is that you're able to be vulnerable but like a red wood tree where you're grounded, confident, and your worthiness isn't based on anyone else's behavior or judgment. So, you have this resilience. Trees can lean; they can sway but they never topple over. Regardless of the outcome, Claudia could have saved herself the extra heartache and the time had she removed herself from the situation earlier. And that's a trap a lot of women fall into, where they don't always know when it's time to leave. And even when they do, they stay a little longer out of hope or the idea they've built of that person. Consensus Building; Just Don't [10:53] It's something we're all guilty of, where we'll speak to our partner then go speak to all of our friends, our social circles, our friend's boyfriends and so on. We turn to so many people for advice, and end up confused by all the different answers. It becomes a medley of what we want to do; what we know what we should do; and what so and so thinks we should do. An example of this is when Rosie speaks to Cassie about how he's being with her, to which he gives an answer that seems to appease her. She then goes on to talk to her social circle and is given an opinion that may or may not work for her. When you're consensus building, take stalk of who you're asking. Different people have different opinions, it's normal. Rosie got her opinion from Ron, who's M.O in the beginning was to not communicate, whereas she seems like someone who's communicative. With that being said, if you're someone who has the courage to be direct and have the conversation then do it, and see what your partner says. And then from that, see how he behaves as things progress. Rather than going to so many different people to ask their opinion. Consensus building is probably one of the biggest mistakes you could ever make. If you see yourself doing it, just notice that you're doing it to soothe your hypervigilant amygdala that is scared and triggered. Does Your PDA Style Say Something? [22:05] Everyone has a different way of showing affection. For some, a kiss in public is great; for others it's uncomfortable. It's important to get these questions out of the way early on in the relationship so that you know your partner's style. When discussing Ron and Lana, Marni points out that they don't partake in a lot of PDA. But does your partner not being into public displays of affection actually mean something about the relationship? Christ points out that women are usually the ones who define the relationship vibe. When it comes to Ron and Lana, that's just the pace they're going at and who they are. But they might actually be the ones to make it do the end even if they kiss like pensioners. Either way, know what your partner's PDA style is and that it doesn't necessarily speak to how much they care about you on a deeper level. Some people are comfortable with PDA and others aren't! That's just how it is. Why does Rose Walker CHOOSE to go into the water? Yesterday, I described how two video games – animated pixels on a screen – stopped me like a slap to the face. They MADE ME care. How? Perhaps you cracked the case? I stopped because both those moments WERE ABOUT ME ... about who I was in that game (and in life). They were about identity. In The Icarus Deception, Seth Godin nails the connection: Myths aren't about gods (real ones or imagined). They are about us. They are about humans acting human but doing it while wearing the cloaks of gods, of legendary figures. Myths highlight the very best of ourselves (and sometimes the worst). In 1997, Rose Walker and Jack Dawson sailed into cinemas and became (haha) a titanic success. But, if you step back a little, it's kind of surprising that the movie was ever made. "A ship sails across a flat sea, hits something, then everyone dies." But of course, Titanic isn't about the ending – EVERYONE KNEW IT ANYWAY. It's about two people drowning in the roles the world has forced on them. It's about identity. Who they are AND who they want to be. That's why we care. That's the key insight for business storytellers. Little cuts deeper into our souls and psyches than who we are. So if we want people to care, tell them a story about identity – who they are and who they could be. Just DON'T tell them the whole story ... that's for next time... Over DO-ing, overwhelm, burnout. We've all been there and yet many of us (like yours truly) still don't learn the lesson and the importance of just NOT DOING it sometimes. I am really trying hard to riff on the Nike slogan of JUST DO IT. But, I'm pulling straws here. Much like I'll keep pulling straws in life oftentimes to accomplish a goal - be it creative or weight loss journey related. And, over DO-ing it never really gets us any where other than back on the hamster wheel. So, this is for all of us who need to hear that it is MORE THAN OKAY to JUST DOn't and take a break. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/whosdatphatgirl/support

Jesus said, 'Do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" or "What shall we drink?"or "What shall we wear?" For [non-believers] run after all these things' (Matthew 6:31-32 NIV). One author WRITES: 'The other DAY I was WORRYING about SOMETHING when I HEARD a minister say, "WORRY is a LACK of TRUST in GOD". So then I began to WORRY over the FACT that I was WORRYING. Then SOMEONE else said, "Just DON'T worry about it". Sounds SIMPLE ENOUGH, but I COME from a LINE of people who speak FAITH, but act OUT of FEAR. Then a friend CAME up WITH this NOVEL idea: "Why DON'T you TRY this WORRY coupon. It ENTITLES you to WORRY as much AS you LIKE, but only if: A) IT WILL FEED AND CLOTHE YOU; B) It will ADD to your LIFE instead of TAKING from it; C) It will make TOMORROW better; D) You don't MIND ACTING like a non-believer!" Then he said, "If that DOESN'T work MAKE a list of all the things you are WORRYING about, place it in a BOX and PUT it up on a SHELF where YOU can't SEE it. If God is EITHER UNWILLING or UNABLE to take CARE of it, YOU can ALWAYS go GET the BOX and start WORRYING again but at LEAST give Him a CHANCE. And while you are WAITING for Him to ANSWER, PRAY, STAND on His WORD and DON'T GIVE your WORRIES a VOICE". 'The Amplified Bible says: 'Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you'. God's Servant Rev. Alfred Acheampong Anchor Scripture: 'CASTING ALL YOUR CARE UPON HIM, FOR HE CARES FOR YOU'. (1Peter 5:7 NKJV) Prayer Point: Heavenly Father help me to learn to cast all my cares upon You, knowing that You are able and capable of handling them in Jesus name. Stay Blessed! It's time for a #BusinessQuickie, and I wanted to come on here and tailor this go-live to our small business owners who want to know the difference between contractors (1099) and employees (W-2) so that you can find which best fits with your business. I figured this would be a great topic for labor day! Let's get started. You might ask why is it important to know the difference? If you misclassify an employee as a contractor, it can lead to audits, penalties and fees, so we want to avoid that at all costs. There are three areas the IRS looks at to make this determination- behavioral control, financial control, and the relationship. So, what is a W-2 employee? Well, a W-2 employee is a typical employee that works for you either part-time or full-time. With W-2 employees, you must withhold payroll taxes from their paychecks, and your business pays the payroll taxes on their earnings. The W-2 employee can be either hourly or salaried. When it comes to labor laws, such as minimum wage and overtime, W-2 employees are protected. In contrast, a 1099 worker usually works for you part-time. When it comes to payroll taxes for 1099 workers, your business doesn't need to withhold taxes or pay taxes on their earnings. The contractor is never salaried and is less protected by labor laws. Now, which is best for your business? Well, there are pros and cons to both, and you are going to have to make this determination with your own facts and circumstances. The pros of working with 1099 workers are fewer costs because you don't have to pay payroll taxes for them, you don't have to pay worker's compensation insurance or provide benefits like healthcare, and - because your business is not subject to the same labor laws that apply to W-2 employee's- you're less likely to be sued on the grounds of labor law violations. A contracot also makes for a more casual relationship between your business and the individual, so there is more flexibility. However, the cons of hiring contractors are they generally have a higher hourly rate than W-2 employees and the casual relationship I just talked about can backfire since they don't understand your company's culture and they are less likely to be available to you and your company when you call them needing their assistance on a whim. The pros of working with a W-2 employee are it is much easier to hire W-2 employees since most people aren't looking for contracted work. There is also more versatility with W-2 employees since they can pretty much do anything you might need them to since their role is less defined than a contractors's role. The W-2 employee will be more reliable since they usually work for you full time with a set schedule and understand the company's culture. The cons are, of course, they cost more in payroll taxes and benefits, and you have a lot of labor laws to follow. In summary, both types of workers can be a great fit for your business depending on what you need them for. Just DON'T you accidentally file one as the other because the IRS will fine you with penalty and fees. And payroll audits are no joke! That's it for the #BusinessQuickie. Happy labor day! Enjoy your weekend, drop a comment, and I will see you next time. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bettehochbergercpa/support
